I ordered King crab legs and scallops ($813.38 total) for overnight delivery for our Christmas eve dinner. Order was placed a week before. They were expensive, but understand they were very good. They shipped the day before, ended up going through Fed Ex. I found out the 'day of' that my shipment would not arrive in time. I had to go out and buy more - at higher prices because before Christmas. That was ok, these things happen - not sure if shipper or Tanner's saving money on Fed Ex - didn't matter, I was the customer and ordered to get this on time for Christmas eve dinner. Tanners rep was very insistent that I check and take pictures of the shipment when it arrived so they could take care of insurance. I did take pictures for them - received shipment about a week late and it smelled so bad that I had to dispose of it. The main issue was - I did get a refund but not a full refund of my USD - shorted my original amount - was 813.38 and got 790.93 less than that and no product, just the hassle of being told I will not be refunded if I did not send pictures and threatening e-mails that I must not refuse the shipment when it arrives. Issue with this company. 1. Does not refund your full amount - buyer beware - you can end up getting nothing and may not get a refund if you refuse the shipment (per company statement) 2. Small apologies - for the delay did't really care- not for the miss of the promised delivery for Christmas eve. 3. Not even a coupon or credit to buy more at a discount. 4. When it happens, they threaten you that you must take the shipment, open it up, take pictures and send or refund is null and void - even if the item was obviously 5+ days late 5. When I responded back in text and requested the payment difference on the amount -shorted (sent a picture) I received no reply to the text even though responses were very quick earlier. You may say, oh - ok, you did get a majority refund so don't complain, but the time I spent on this on the phone and e-mails back and forth was not worth the order in the first place. read more

November 9, 2025 It has taken me some time to write this review of Tanner's Alaskan Seafood. I ordered Salmon Roe, Alaskan Venison Sausage, Alaskan Smoked Halibut, Smoked Jalapeno Salmon Spread, Alaskan Smoked King Salmon Traditional Flavor, King Salmon Bellies, and Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Premium Portions. I will describe the products in the order we tried them. We tried the first five items the first week we received the package. The last two we tried yesterday and today. After trying the first five, I lost interest in trying more but yesterday I thought I would try brining the roe. 1. Smoked Halibut. Awful. They overly brined the halibut and did not smoke the fish. I took one bit and spit it out. No smoke flavor. It was mushy and salty beyond belief. Opened another package same problem. All went in the trash. 2. Smoked King Salmon. Very little smoked flavor or salmon flavor. There are several things that can cause that. 3. Smoked salmon spread. Impossible to tell exactly what it was. Did not taste like salmon and had just the slightest smoke flavor. Went in the trash. 4. Sockeye Portions. Average quality. We fried those okay. 5. Venison sausage. Tasted like the cheap sausage you can find in any convenience store or truck stop. It was impossible to tell what it was by taste. Went in the trash. 6. Salmon roe. Opened the package and the eggs were very small and all were very mushy. I brined the roe but it was impossible to remove the eggs from the skein (the membrane that holds the eggs) because it was all mush. Went in the trash. I still have one bag of roe left. 7. King Salmon Bellies. All bellies had fins attached. It is a common and accepted practice to remove the fin when the fish is filleted. There was a total of 9 pieces in the last package. The pieces I received were small. Below is a picture of pieces in the last package we had left which had not been fried. I put a tape beside the pieces to show how much meat we actually received. You can fry the bellies and remove the fin easier after they are fried. They tasted great. My point with the salmon bellies is that what I received is nothing as Tanner advertises in their picture below of salmon bellies (on their website). I spent around $500 for the product. I lived in Alaska for 18 years. I went all over the state fishing and many times fished various places on the Kenai Peninsula, which is where Tanner Seafood is located. I had a 206 on floats used it a great deal fishing in the 12 years I owned it. I bought seafood from other business in Alaska. I know what good quality seafood is and this from Tanners was the worst I have experienced from any Seafood business in Alaska. I suppose the risk of buying online and receiving what I received is more common these days because what recourse does anyone have except write a review; especially when you live 2000 miles from the seller. Notice on their website, they have positive reviews but go Yelp and you will read many more negative reviews. read more

My giant king crab got delayed by FedEx. That is not Tanners fault. But when I got the package it had obviously started to thaw. The crab was loose packed in a bag with a rip in it. Liquid had leaked out of the cooler and into the outer cardboard box. You can see the mess I received. I wrote Tanner's. I have had no response. Very disappointed in their customer service. I need to update this. Due to computer glitches I did not receive emails Tanners sent. I did get a telephone call which is excellent service! I continue to try to post an honest review on Tannersfish.com, but it keeps getting deleted. Seems they are only keeping 5-star reviews on that web site. I ordered whole King Salmon fillets from Tanners, to be shipped to my home. The fillets were plenty big and thick, but the salmon tasted bland, not like fresh King Salmon that I have cooked my entire life. The flesh was very lean, and did not contain the lines of marbled fat shown in the picture on their web site (and like all other quality King Salmon I have purchased from other sources). The fillets I received were just big, lean Salmon, with little fat and almost no taste. If I'm going to spend this much, I'd rather buy the highly marbled King Salmon that always cooks up moist and full of flavor. read more

They had our fish ready as promised The weight we brought in and were charged for did not match the weight of fish we received. When we inquired about whether there would be "shrinkage" they responded: Regarding your question about the weight of your fillets after processing, the answer is no, the processed fillets will not weigh less after being frozen and vacuum-wrapped. The very first time I ordered from Tanner's, my order arrived cold but thawed. I didn't order again for at least a year. Recently, I have ordered from them again, and I'm very pleased. Both orders arrived frozen solid. They have a wonderful selection of different types of salmon and whitefish. I personally love the rockfish. Yes...as they state in the item descriptions, you have to remove the pin bones from the salmon. It's not hard to do at all. You just run your finger down the filet to feel for them. Takes like 30 seconds per piece with a little tweezer type tool. Sometimes I wait to remove them after cooking. No biggie either way. I only dock one star because the portion sizes are a bit inconsistent. So there is no way to know what size filets you're getting in a single vacuum sealed package. I'll take that tiny inconvenience for the quality, price, and selection compared to what I was getting at Costco. I hope I can edit this review and add some photos later. read more

They do not answer the phone or messages, they to do not respond to complaints filed with the BBB about their practices in selling low quality fish at high end prices to customers. We should have listened to the hundreds of complaints from those everyday customers posting on the internet... sure, the locals in Alaska give great praise to Tanners for cleaning their personal catch for freezing... but just read the real reviews from us, the everyday customers from anywhere USA. True on the horrible smell of the fish upon opening the vac pack (BACTERIA); True on the Pin bones; and True on the Non-commutation after Tanner gets the cash. Wow, we just lost $277! Hello Tanner's! Thank you from Long Beach, CA where I am right now during the COVID-19 pandemic. I put in a large order 2-days ago, and it just arrived. I thought I'd take a moment to leave this review, as I am astounded how quickly the package arrived - and how everything was so securely packed. It would have taken me a great deal of time and effort to do all that work - and I need to express my gratitude - especially when we do business, faceless, over bandwidth and phones. Often we need to be reminded that there's still a human being on the other end of the transaction; whether it was a large or small order, it still takes human interaction. There location in Soldotna is so disorganized . There is no accountability for fish processed. Not sure if we got the same fish that we brought in. Dropped off 61lbs. of whole fish to process, 14 reds and 3 silvers. Came back the next day for pick up and after 15 minutes brought out a tray of reds and no trace of the silvers. No identification on fish container and no accountability. What a messed up operation. The final insult was when he offered small quarters of silvers for trade (yes, for trade) for the reds we had. Would I order again? Yes. But I was very stressed out over the delivery of my order. This was Fed Ex's fault, not Tanner's. Next time I would not go with the Friday delivery where if there is a weather or FedEx delay then my shipment would not arrive until Monday. Go with a midweek delivery if possible when ordering! The contents which were shipped on Thursday morning arrived on Monday afternoon in WA state (after their usual Fed Ex field trip to Memphis). This is with Priority Overnight shipping! The ice packs were still reasonably solid and the fish was cold. I am not sure if they would have lasted another day, or if it was summer it could have been a problem. The product themselves look great, we got the salmon, some exotic meat and crab legs and pieces. If buying crab go with the legs, I feel those are a better deal but that's me personally. read more

Ordered here twice. First time, ordered 4 pounds of King Salmon and 4 pounds of Sockeye. Okay, but Sockeye was comparable to Costco. Second time, I ordered 6 pounds of King Salmon, and 1 pound of smoked King bellies and 1 pound of smoked traditional salmon. Instead, they only sent me 1 pound of smoked regular bellies. I called for a refund, and he was very nice but offered a store credit of $39 (which was missing from the order) plus an extra credit of $5 if I don't get a refund. I think my grandma sent me $5 for my birthday one time back in 1986. I told him just refund me the $39 and keep the $5 credit. Now this time, the King Salmon was dry and with almost no fat content. My wife and I spend half the year in Florida, where great fresh seafood is always available. But the other half we spend in Colorado, where the lamb, bison, and venison is out of this world, but seafood (other than trout) is mostly of the frozen variety. Fortunately, a few years ago I spent a few weeks fishing the Kenai river, and we ended up getting our fish processed at Tanner's. We have been "hooked" every since. The first day that we're back in Colorado we put in our order for their king crab legs and the most amazing reindeer sausage on the planet. So disappointing.) *ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW* Was so excited when I placed my $212 order for 7lbs snow crab clusters and 1lb bag of ready to eat snow crab claws but was very disappointed when my order arrived. My delivery came right on time within two days and snow crab was still frozen solid. I thought that was pretty awesome! However, upon inspecting my order I noticed that I only got about three crab clusters with a few legs still attached and a bunch of random broken crab pieces (claws and legs). There is no way these broke during transport as they were all random pieces which looked as if it were the bottom of the barrel pieces. That is so sad for $212. I have no complaints on the bag of snow crab claws as those were beautiful and delicious looking. Would have loved to order several bags of those again but sadly I don't think I'll be reordering from Tanner's fish. Their website shows beautiful whole clusters. So you can understand my disappointment. I am a YouTube content creator with a fairly large following in which I eat on camera and review restaurants and other foods and unfortunately I am not able to even present these and make them look appealing on my channel. Like, "Welcome to my channel, today we are eating broken crab pieces." I called Tanner's to politely inform them of this and see what could be done. The gentleman I spoke with was super nice and apologetic. He informed me the crab could have broken during transport but when I explained they were random broken pieces. He mentioned it could have been an oversight and would speak to his crew in regards to this. He then understandably asked me to send him pictures. I did and he later informed me they could offer me a $25 refund or a $25 store credit. I'm definitely disappointed with that outcome as I would have loved to just have whole crab clusters as I cannot use this crab for a video and therefore I cannot make money from it on my channel. Brought in 200 lbs of vac packed frozen fish to be stored in the freezer. Returned 2 days later to thawed fish that took them 40 minutes to find. All they had to do was put it in the freezer! Massive failure by Tanners!was lucky enough to find a quality processor with great customer service down river! Amazing a 9 year was able to give us better service than Tanners! What a bad experience. We took about 100 lbs of frozen, vacuum sealed fish to Tanner's since we were running out of freezer space. We ended up with a ton more salt water fish that we needed to be stored for us. We processed, vacuum sealed and called Tanners for more storage. They told us to come on in. We load the truck and once arriving they told us there was no more room. Now what? We ended finding an awesome place to store our fish so we decide to move all the fish to the new location. Tanners at first couldn't find our fish. After about 30 mins they finally send out the manager who didn't really say anything except how much dish they process. He gives us our fish back and they have let it thaw out. How stupid to bring in frozen fish for storage and they let it thaw. My advice, go to J...W..... read more

So we got our smoked fish back from the Soldotna location. Same problem. Got a lot of tail pieces and clearly not our fish. Some pieces were old and dry and some were more fresh and moist. The Cajun and original smoke flavors are very mild! Can barely taste the smoke flavor!! If you go here just be aware that you will be getting other fish that may have been sitting for quite some time. read more

I am a native of the PNW so I know great fish! After moving to Texas I missed having that fresh salmon and halibut. A friend who is originally from Alaska recommended Tanner's. Ordering was easy. Shipping swift. Packaging well done. Sockeye salmon fresh with firm meat. Flavor is perfect; not "fishy". Can't wait to try the halibut. I don't have to give up great fish. I won't eat farm-raised, Atlantic, or anything but Alaskan or from the ocean in WA/OR. Happy!! I fished the Kenai River. I ordered 10# Colossal King Crab with a delayed shipment (so I didn't have to store it on my end for a family crab fest). The crab arrived right on time (the date I initially requested) and was perfectly packaged. This is a group of avid seafood eaters and as the huge crab legs came off the Traeger ... eyes lit up like Christmas! The crab was very clean and all were complete legs. The meat was very fresh (the only scent was that it smelled of the ocean). It is without question the finest crab legs I've ever had and we will certainly order from them again. Placed my first order with this company and ordered 12lb sampler which cost over $300 so not cheap at all. When our seafood arrived it seemed very small, luckily for us we had a scale, only had 8lbs of seafood. When I called this place the girl told me she would be happy to refund me for the missing portion of order, well I sure hope so lol! She said for the inconvenience I could get $25 credit for future order, well $25 gets you nothing at this place so she begrudgingly increased it to $50. Now I went to redeem the $50 credit and see I need to spend $50 in shipping! The company has not responded to my request that they just give me a refund of $50 instead of this lame credit. Lol this company is a literal joke. Had we not had a scale we would never caught the fact they short us a third of our order, wonder how many people they do this to... my advise would be to take business elsewhere but if you do choose Tanners, weight check everything. read more

Ordered for the first time but will not be ordering again. Cod served to dinner guests who could not eat it it was so tough and tasteless. Contacted Tanners to let them know about this bad experience only to be told we had probably cooked it too long! Blame the cook I guess is the easiest solution. My wife is an excellent cook and has been cooking for 40 years and we regularly have guests for dinner. The cod we were sold from Tanners was filleted from a huge fillet and was tough and tasteless.
