The avocado was creamy, the sourdough toast was perfectly toasted and the sorrel paste gave the dish a spark that made every bite a pleasure. The huevos rancheros were outstanding. The beans were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The green and red chile sauces were both on point and better than what I got at more well-known restaurants in town. The smoothies and chai masala were very creamy and tasty. Additionally, the vegan potato and corn chowder was a delicious lite lunch item. Very pleasant service as well. In fact, they fed everyone there. It was an act of generosity I promised to repay when things reopened. Since then, I've been back many times--and I've loved everything I've tried. The food and drinks are consistently excellent. Yes, it can be a little pricey, but it's absolutely worth it for the quality and care they put into every order. I wholeheartedly recommend KOKO's. If you have questions about the menu, ask for her recommendations--you won't be disappointed. My partner ordered Martin's Breakfast Burrito, and I had the huevos rancheros. Both were fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were hoping for. Michael's Kitchen is only open Wednesday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., so plan accordingly. We arrived around 9:30 on a Sunday morning and had about a 30 minute wait. It was busy, but the wait was actually enjoyable because the restaurant has several little nooks filled with antiques and artwork by local artists. There was plenty to look at, and the time passed quickly. Taos has many wonderful mom and pop restaurants, but from what I learned during our visit, there are fewer locally owned restaurants serving traditional Spanish cuisine. We were fortunate enough to track down the Bent Street Grille, because it turned out to be perfect! It was a Sunday and the place was crowded with hungry diners. However, the staff was able to put together a table for six right away, which seemed almost miraculous. It's a lovely restaurant with seating both inside and outside. There was a musician playing out on the patio but in a low-key way, so the music didn't intrude on conversations. (Important because I'm slightly hearing impaired.) It was difficult to choose between all the tempting options on the menu! But I finally settled on the Berry Nice Waffle. It was excellent! Others selected the Bent Street Eggs Benedict and French Onion soup. All the dishes were delicious with generous portions and fresh ingredients. We'll definitely return to the Bent Street Grille if we ever get back to Taos!
