We had hoped this south location might be better than the north location we had tried a couple of years ago -- it wasn't. We ordered two tacos and two enchiladas at the counter along with two medium soft drinks. The waitress quickly brought us an ordered but it wasn't ours. It was very obvious since the tacos were fish tacos rather than the beef we ordered. We had to flag another server down to report the problem. He took away our meals and then we waited again. We ordered the Azteca shrimp quesadillas and chips with salsa. Normally, we get the chips and salsa with our drinks ($5 extra) before we sit down. However, this time the cashier forgot our chips/salsa. As we were sitting down, I asked the busboy if he could bring us our chips/salsa. He said they don't come with the drinks. I said we had paid for them so he asked to see my receipt as if I was lying! After several minutes he brought us our chips/salsa, but they were stale. Then, the manager came out and asked if everything was ok, but I was hungry and just wanted to eat our quesadillas before they got cold so I told her everything was ok. I like the concept of this place. You order up front and they get your meal at the table. The carnitas were OK. The rice was Ok. The beans were not... The highlight of my lunch was the agua de jamaica (hibiscus water), it was the real deal even though the presentation was confusing (a Coca Cola product?). The staff is nice and attentive. read more

I have seen large menus in my days as a Chef. However, be prepared to be overwhelmed by the selections in this place. Nice clean restaurant with a walk up and order counter. Today I thought I was ordering a lighter lunch. I ordered a Shrimp cocktail. My friend ordered a taco salad. My Shrimp cocktail was a large beer glass, the old schooner type fat round glass. It was filled with large Shrimp, avacado, onion and cilantro in a homemade Tamato clam juice. It was very good and very filling. My friend chose the taco salad without the tortilla bowl. When our order arrived. Her taco salad must have had a pound of fajita meat sliced very uniformly and the salad had beans and crispy lettuce small juilianned carrots and celery with some onion. It filled a plater. Wow, very tasty. It came with Guacamole and sourcream on the side. Plenty of crispy chips. Very nice lunch at this busy restaurant. I had Horchata to drink. Tasty. The menu is almost over whelming. 4 or 5 pages filled with choices cooked fresh not pre-made. It was a great lunch. Very open and a huge restaurant. Save your $ and go somewhere else. We ordered the Chile relleno and chicken enchilada platters, both with green sauce. None of it had any flavor. Enchilada, beans, rice were not warm. Green sauce had no flavor whatsoever. Ive had better frozen food dinners than this. Oh yeah, we had to pay for a side of chips-n-salsa- another mistake. Ive tasted cardboard that was better than the chips. The salsa bland as well. Not sure where the owner is hiding out, but the quality control of the food left the station. Stopped in to eat after a weekend of hunting in Red River. The menu was huge, a wide variety of food to choose from. We started with chips and salsa. The salsa was very flavorful and super tasty. My husband ordered the Azteca Quesadilla with shrimp and I ordered the Wild Catch Spicy Grilled Salmon. Both dishes came out super fast. My husband's dish was filled with a lot of shrimp and veggies, such as onions, mushrooms and tomato's. It came with salsa, guacamole and sour cream. The tortilla was crispy and delicious. My dish was topped with a lot of tomatoes which was too many for me, the grilled veggies were super tasty and crunchy, and not over cooked which I really liked. The rice was just ok. What we really liked was the hot jalapeños that were on the bar at the register that you can pick up for free. They are grilled and add just the right amount of heat to your dish. We will definetly be back to try some other dishes. read more

Came to Taos with my buddies for a ski/snowboarding trip. While in town we wanted to try some of the food here. I got the Chicken Azteca Quesadilla and it was good, but a little greasy (I think bc of the onions so maybe next time no onions). I got a lime margarita, and it was good (but I'll drink any lime margarita you put in front of me). The place is a little pricey, but you get a good amount of food, so for the quality and quantity, the price isn't that bad. They have homemade horchata, and it's pretty good, but they have $1.00 refills which kinda bites. Otherwise a very good restaurant, great ambiance and decorations on the walls, and VERY quick service. Also wasn't that busy when we got here, so that might have affected it. Overall, I'd have to give this place 7 1/2 Canes' in Bryan out of 10. read more

I really enjoyed this restaurant. It seems to be an authentic, real-Taos place to eat. We ordered food to go but then just decided to eat out on the patio because it was so inviting. The food was quite tasty. The staff were friendly and following safe covid practices. The restaurant was very clean and open with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is extensive and there's something for everyone!!! There is also a little area offering roasted peppers, limes and lemons if you want to add extra goodies to your meal. read more

I'm giving them three just because I don't like restaurants where you walk in and order at the door. I'm an indecisive person and I don't like to hold up the line. I would prefer to be able to take a menu and sit down at a table, Peruse it and place my order. With that being said, we have eaten here many times before so I'm surprised I have not left a review. Today we have spent the last five hours fishing and we are hot, cranky and hungry. We ordered enchiladas, tostadas, tacos, chimichangas and a burrito supreme. Everyone enjoyed their food immensely except the burrito was only room temperature inside. I would also recommend that you share a plate unless you're absolutely ravenous because the portions are humongous. This was recommended to us while visiting Taos after our horse ride. It's a walk up window counter inside where you order and then sit down to wait for your food. I got their shrimp tacos, my brother had their fish tacos, my mom got a chicken quesadilla and our friend opted for a chicken burger. It didn't take too long before our food arrived. My brother and I ate our tacos quite quickly which were great. My mom loved her chicken quesadilla and gave me a small piece to try and it was quite good. Our friend seemed to enjoy her chicken burger and decided to take the leftovers back to our hotel. Overall, not a great looking place and a bit run down inside. If I could give this zero stars I would. This is the worst food I ever paid for. Carnitas were dry and unflavored. The Spanish rice was crunchy. Nachos lacked cheese which I assume was the whole point of getting nachos. I did read the bad reviews but I was forced to come here for a celebratory event. Really more like a typical Mexican restaurant chain. Big booths, bigger menu. You walk in and see menu. Place orders and either get it to go or eat in. The carne asada is great. Their shrimp is just as good. Both served with rice and refried beans, not pintos, if that matters to you. They have really good agua frescas too, we got our favorite jamaica and were not disappointed in the least. Good salsa and good guacamole too. Great for families with kids too. read more

I went to eat here after a long day rafting on the water and was extremely hungry hoping to get some good food. As soon as I looked at the menu I could already tell everything was overpriced. But I stayed optimistic hoping the price would reflect on the quality of the food. This however was the complete opposite, when my food came out it looked almost inedible. I then tried it, and the carnitas I ordered were cubed meat that was tuff as boot leather and was so gray and hard I couldn't even tell if it was pork or not. This is the SOUTH location! Their menu differs a bit from the north one. You order first and then they bring you your food. We had to ask since we'd never been here before. The staff were very friendly and helpful! I ordered an a la carte barbacoa taco and the meat was amazingly tender and flavorful. Rice was minute rice basically just dyed light orange, no flavor. Beans sub par. Flautas definitely fried in old oil just not good. Barbacoa tacos just tasted like boiled chuck roast, no flavor. Shrimp cocktail was pretty good but a little too strong in cucumber for my taste. Chips salsa and guac were good. That's about it. Will not be back. read more

This place is seriously legit Mexican food. They have two locations in Taos, but I only go to this one by default, bc it's connected to the most awesome car wash like in all of New Mexico. And when your traveling in the mountains your gonna get dirty. If your not getting dirty your not doing it right. Lol Which always brings me to Guadalajara Grill. We usually stop in & get a cooler full of guacamole, chips & salsa etc., to take to Carson National Forest, to the Gorge or just adventure driving, which means "estamos perdidos"(we are lost) LOL. "Guadalajara" is actually a city in western MEXICO. Famously known for mariachi music & tequila! Ole! So it's not New Mexican cuisine its "south of the border" Mexican cuisine & it's freakin good homie! It's a totally laid back chill casual place that you walk up & order, watch the cars going thru the connecting glass windows to get washed, grab a beer, sit inside or out on the patio. From the dining room there are nice views of the mountains & there is also a giant hand painted Mexican mural on the wall that reminds me of the murals in Jalisco. In Jalisco, where Guadalajara is the capital, in Guadalajara's historic center there is "The Palacio del Gobierno" that also houses famous murals by painter José Clemente Orozco. So, yea, this place is pretty legit Mexican & in all the right ways. Like the little salsa bar they put out, with all the fresh condiments & fresh fried jalapeños, it's dope. Just like in Mexico. LOVE LOVE LOVE the way the whole staff wears matching uniforms with the cool old school paper boat shaped "party hats". They all look so cute & very professional. What I dig most about this place is they serve fresh oysters on the half shell! Yep. You can get oysters on the half shell here anytime while you wait for your car wax. Wax on, oysters in, wax off... waxing poetic here... I also love that you can get family sizes of guacamole & other sides to go. It's THE perfect place for take out for picnics or on the go down & dirty fun in the mountains! Every time we have been there, tons of people are coming & going getting take out. My absolute fave dish to take is the pork tips in green chili.2.die.4! I get it al la carte & refuse to share It's so yummy! Bueno Bueno :) The other thing I love we have gotten here is the Aztec quesadillas (easy to eat when your driving) My favorite is the carnitas quesadilla! Yep. Succulent pork carnitas! Freakin good homie! You can't go wrong here, even the rice & beans are bueno bueno. The only thing Guadalajara Grill is missing (hint hint) is the mariachi music & tequila! Ole! Took the family and grandkids last week for a first time visit. My wife and I like to try the chile rellanos for a first meal at a new restaurant. At 5:00 PM they told me they were "out". Back to the menu for lengthy look for something else. I chose pork chimichanga with Xmas chile, the Mrs had shrimp tacos. My plate looked fine except for unmelted grated cheese on everything. Portions were good. The food was bland and not flavorful. The wife took half of hers home to "eat later" (code for a dog treat). Is overly tame food a characteristic of Taos restaurants? Is it tailored to tourists and not the locals? Is there a code word to be used when ordering to communicate that the diner wants it local style? I don't know either but fortunately there are many other restaurants to try in this town. read more

After skiing for a whole day, Guadalajara really hits the spot. You order at the counter right through the doors and servers bring the food out to you. There was plenty of seating and service was prompt. Everyone was very friendly and the cashier was helpful with giving suggestions. The restroom, sort of was located at the end of a very long hallway which was pretty odd. We ordered a full serving of chimichangas (they were huge), shrimp azteca quesadillas, beef fajitas, and diablo shrimp. The beef fajitas' meat (not depicted) was a bit tough to chew. The diablo shrimp was on the spicy side so it really warms you right up. Although everything was average, the shrimp azteca quesadillas were the best quesadillas I've ever had. The portion size was huge and the tortillas on the outside were crispy while the inside was stuffed with everything good. If you're in the mood for quesadillas, you can't go wrong with the azteca!! read more
