Great pizza, fun atmosphere, yummy wings and great beer selection. Service is a little slow but otherwise this is a great find in taos. I would be back to try something else. This place does take to go orders and call ahead. They have plenty of parking and indoor and outdoor seating. Nice selection of many types of beer including the Hatch Chile Amber Ale that I tried. Good wings, nice and crispy and the pizza was solid not too doughy priced just right. I asked for more iced tea and water which never came but they were apologetic. We sad outside on the benches under the trees and it was a nice dinner, a few bugs but we were outside that was to be expected. read more

This place has a cozy, rustic patio but the service is extremely slow despite very few customers. The server was friendly, but she made multiple mistakes including bringing a pizza with white sauce, which is what we explicitly said we didn't want. The food was only so so. The pasta was very disappointing, we left most of it untouched. The pizza was okay, the salad was stale. However, the prices were what you'd expect from a decent 4-star restaurant. OMG! How can a pizza joint wind up with one-star reviews! Let me tell you that they don't give a s*#t what people think of them. I placed a phone order and arrived, with no else at the counter, getting settled up with the establishment took 15 minutes. The guy at the counter couldn't cash me out because he didn't take my order. He went across the parking lot to the cafe and returned saying the gal who took my order would be returning to cash me out...... Eventually a girl shows up and is so obviously stoned and mumbled that she had to go find something.... Long delay as she went out a side door, back to the cafe nearby, and lord knows what she was doing. Meanwhile the counter guy is getting embarrassed for me. He offers to settle me right away if I pay cash and gives me a price of $27. I give him cash and finally the girl returns..... The guy then says she needs to finish the transaction. She asks for $31. Not professional or honest. Bottom line this joint is a total "clown show" The pizza, particularly the dough, was sub-par. Should have believed all the other customers who have left similar tales of disappointment. We arrived early and saw only 1 other table occupied. We were seated by the cook, who delivered 3 place setups for 4 people. He took our order, then retreated to the kitchen to prepare many takeout pizza orders. No one else took over servingour table. The salads were supposed to come with foccicia. Our pizza slices finally came, but our 4th entree never appeared. I had to get up and go to the counter to request another fork, then again to request our 4th meal, and the foccicia. The pasta dish we were waiting for was delivered cold and we finished our salads before the foccicia came. There were 3 or 4 women standing around behind the counter, not tending to the seated customers, obviously. They did comp our cold entree when we complained. Wanted to go somewhere to eat on my sisters birthday. So we picked what we thought would be a nice cool restaurant. We got there and no one was at the front we waited about 5 minutes before anyone realized we were there then the hostess said "sit where ever you want" so we asked if we could sit outside because inside was hot and dirty. So we went outside and sat down then she brought out the menus and left for about 10 minutes;when she came back she didn't ask if we wanted drinks or anything so we just ordered a very simple order. A slice of pepperoni pizza, chicken alfredo and three doctor peppers not a difficult order,well it took about 20 minutes for our drinks and they were in tiny cups no one else had these cups all the other customers had glass cups that were much bigger. She must've thought we were irresponsible or something. Then she never checked on us while we waited for the food, never told us how long of a wait, or anything then we finally got our food after almost an hour and the pizza was cold and tasted like it was sitting out for a while, the chicken Alfredo was alright but the chicken looked like it was canned. I've eaten here a few times and when it's good it's good but otherwise it's not worth the wait. Last week my wife's slice was only partially cooked, it was like they cooked it and then realized they forgot the vegetables and just piled raw vegetables on top and brought it to the table. Me, my sister, and my mother always liked to come here. Good pizza, good atmosphere. The wait has always been a bit of an issue, but since we always dined out it was never more than 30 mins for our food. Not this time around. Last night, July 14th we went in at I wanna say 7:35. We got sat pretty quickly but we didn't order till around 7:45. My mother and I got a half order of garlic breadsticks and a 14' pizza; half cheese half pepperoni. My sister ordered the 6 piece buffalo wings. It took an hour and 15 minutes to get our food. We received our breadsticks about 20 minutes after we ordered. They were okay. Then at about the 40 minute mark my sister got her wings; after my mother asked what was taking so long. The waiter brought them and said "and by the way, we are out of ranch. I don't know where it is." Well thanks for telling us AFTER they were brought out. And what kind of waiter just says "I don't know where it went." What kind of customer service is that?? Then, at 8:40, an hour after we ordered, my mother went to the front to ask where our pizza was. The lady, didn't get her name, said "Well that family over there just got their pizza and they waited an hour and 20 minutes" like that's supposed to make us feel better?? When we got our pizza, an hour and 15 minutes after we ordered, it was undercooked. The crust was still super soft and just tasted like dough. Awful experience. Normally we always had a great time with dine out, but the one time we didn't we got horrible service. These people are rude, try to cover up their BS with lies, and just overall not a good experience. We will never be going back. If you enjoy waiting over an hour for mediocre food and nasty service, I suggest coming here. read more

This place has refinery gone way downhill which is sad. Turns on to this place after a random stop in about 10 years ago, it was solid for many years and now it's mostly a disaster. Busy and understaffed which many places are and do manage but the biggest disappointment was the pizza, not at all like it used to be. We stopped in to have lunch at Taos Pizza Outback this week. We went because of the bad review on Facebook, thinking this might be our last chance to experience this place. We really were expecting the worst. But before I get into it, I'm not disputing others experiences here. I know we have had some service issue here, and at many places in Taos, especially since the pandemic. I know many restaurants in Taos have issues finding people to work, and this is contributing to service issues. My intention here is not to delve into the ins and outs of that issue, I'm just stating it's not a problem exclusive to one or two places in Taos, or New Mexico, or anywhere else in this country. Labor in the food service industry is a problem everywhere. Moving on- Our experience this day was exceptional. We were offered to sit wherever we wished as soon as we walked in. No sooner than we picked a table menus were delivered and we requested water while we looked over the drink and food menus. Water was quickly delivered and we ordered a Cabernet and a beer, which also came quickly. At that point we had decided what we wanted, as we are familiar with what we like. We ordered a small Greek salad and a couple of pizza slices. The salad came out quickly and looked beautiful. And it tasted great, just like every Greek salad I have experienced there. The pesto dressing with walnuts is just amazing. They sell it in larger quantities if you want to take some home. Soon the slices arrived and they were loaded up with toppings, which is one thing I love about their pizza, the other being the delicious crust. We were both super happy with our selections. At no time did we ever feel ignored, or had any issue with service. Just after the pizza arrived my wife realized she wanted some pesto dressing and I simply turned toward the cash register where the servers were going over something, and I spoke up "Miss?!" One of them came as I expressed my request and it was promptly delivered. Simply put, service could not have been better this day. Both servers were encountered seemed cordial, and helpful. When we were finished, I asked to speak to a manager and I told the server why- I wanted to compliment their service as well as the kitchens quality work and efficiency. Kim, the owner came to the table in a few moments. We both told her about our positive experience this day and thanked her. We ended up in a somewhat long conversation about various issues she has faced, not the least being bad reviews. I want to stress again we have had service issue here in the past. We have had these same issues at other Taos establishments, as well as other places nationwide. Finding good help appears to be an industry wide issue. And sometimes it's just poor management. We experienced none of this today. I made sure to compliment both servers to their face, as well as the cooks in the kitchen. They all made for a positive experience for us this day. Ambiance is nice but that does not make up for the terrible service. My family and I came in at 7:50 pm for pizza and by 8:40 pm the salads still were not out. After asking them where they were they finally came out but now it is 9:20 pm with no pizzas in sight. This is terribly disappointing as I had high hopes for this place. read more

A Taos institution! Amazing salads and pizza. Oh, and dessert! Every time we visit Taos, we have to eat here. Just like most things in Taos, expect eclectic! My favorite pizza is the Shredder with sausage and a house salad... the basil-parmigiana vinaigrette is out of this world! I'd give 5 stars hands down for the food, but on our recent visit, they forgot about our order that we placed 30 minutes ahead of time as we came from the other side of the gorge. Then once they started preparing our order, they forgot half of it. We ended up waiting for over an hour and the pizza was cold. But, we heated it back up, and it was as delicious as always. Is there no good pizza in this town?!? Been on an adventure this week trying to figure out the answer to this question. So far the answer is no. We thought the staff at the brewery didn't want to be there...holy moly this staff could not give a f*#^ that anyone was there. Pretty sure one of them was the owner. We were both served flat beer. Maybe there's an issue with the draft system. When we mentioned it there was no fix or care. Food was lukewarm at best by the time it hit our table. I found a Facebook page while sitting here of all the locals trashing all the food in Taos. This place might be the worst place talked about on there. In all my years in the industry I've never seen a more sad state of a town when it comes to pizza. It's one of the cheapest and easiest foods to make and no one is doing it right here. Not a Covid problem because the place has not improved. It took over an hour for a pizza that was overcooked. All the toppings were burnt. Please meet Kim, she is the owner of Taos Outback Pizza. I would say she is the proud owner, but it is 100% clear she does not care about the establishment or her employees. I know this first hand because of my experience there today. To put this in perspective, we walked in the door at about 12:00pm and only two other tables were being occupied. We ordered our food at 12:19pm. We received our salads and one of our kids cheese pizzas, but at 1:24pm, I went and asked the lady at the cash register how much longer. That lady was Kim. One would think after waiting that long she would at least apologize and try to make it right, but the truth is, she didn't care and it showed. We asked for our food to go at that point, and even though we confirmed our order was right on the receipt, it wasn't right at all. When asked where the owner was, we were told she was hiding her face in her car. That right there should tell you about how this establishment is ran. Turns out, this dimensioning establishment is up for sale. I would think twice before purchasing, or even visiting, the business she is single handedly running into the ground. Update- based on Kim's reply, this is the only act of caring about the establishment she has shown. Also, this is not about your employees, this is about your lack of helping your employees. Wow, this place has become a disaster. I have been coming her for over 30 years as a resident from Questa. Ever since the new owner bought the place it has gone downhill fast. The old great vibe of Taos Pizza Outback has been lost. Tonight we ordered online at 6pm. The app said it would be ready by 6:45pm. When I showed up at 7pm they said it would be another 45 minutes. Then when I came back they said it would be another 25 minutes, then when I came again they said it would be ready in 10 minutes. Finally the pizza was done after 2.5 hours for one pizza. No one apologized or offered any beverages or credits which is the norm when people have to wait this long for food in a restaurant. Another person next me had been waiting for over 3 hours and her kids had fallen asleep in the car waiting for their dinner. The kitchen is a mess and totally disgusting. It looks like it hasn't been deep cleaned in over 20 years. The employees all look like they are on meth, lost teeth, vacant stares and drab clothes. Super unprofessional. And the bad: Ordered 12 wings and asked for two sauces, They charged for 2 totally separate orders $6 differents. When asked I was told owner requires the charge, I said the customer requires to be notified. It looks like management didn't communicate some important points to his/her team to notify customers. $113.00 total for a 14" pie spaghetti one order of wings (2 ) in the owner's eyes. This place used to be great. We came here tonight expecting to feed our party of nine. Here we sit for 2.5 hours with no pizza. Had to ask for the salad. Doesn't take much to prepare that. Yet, I'm sure it wouldn't have come unless I asked. Not much attention from our waitress either. No refills on water. Felt like a pest after a while. Finally went up to the front and asked my waitress where our food was. She was pretty dismissive and finally came to the table and stated they had a 4 hour wait!!!! Really? We've been sitting here for 2 hours. No mention of a four hour wait when we sat down. Part of the excuse was that they had a lot of takeout orders. OK, I get that but you also need to manage your in house customers. In fact I would think that they would prioritize in house customers. There are other tables that have been here before us with no food. This place is a complete and utter fiasco. I hate to say this, but do not come here. We wanted to go to a different place but it was closed for Labor Day weekend, so we settled on this place. Got a slice of the white pizza and a small caesar salad. The salad dressing is oil-based, not creamy, which is fine with me but the flavor was...kind of weird? Like it was almost buttery. I couldn't decide if I liked it or not. The pizza was very disappointing. The crust was bland and it was SUPER thick, but not in the good way, like it was very doughy and chewy. Almost like a bagel. I didn't finish it partly because the pieces are huge (I think it was bigger than my face), and partly because I just didn't like it. Not a lot of flavor overall and too heavy for a white pizza. A side note, the table was very sticky. I tried to avoid putting my hands and elbows on it. Not sure if it wasn't cleaned well after the last people or if there's a coating that was put on it. order took over 2 hours. when I arrived at the 75 min mark, I stood at the counter for over 10 minutes before any of the staff acknowledged my presence. finally the pizza was ready but the other half of my order was not so I waited another 20+ minutes for 2 salads and garlic bread. oh and the cannoli we ordered was out and they said they could not refund me so had to choose something else which was not what we wanted. overall abysmal service and food was so so. cesar salads didnt come with Cesar dressing. alfredo pasta was not well mixed and somewhat watery From not being drained enough. turn off your online orders if you can't handle the volume of orders so you don't provide such awful service and wait times. for spending $130 on food, it should not be this way. your cooks were trying but how can they keep up with a restaurant being managed so terribly They have to rush everything. read more

Been coming here for 20 years. Very sad what has happened to the quality at this place. Used to be top notch ingredients, and I would tell anyone I met it was the best pizza I had ever had. The pesto dressing was incredible too Pains me to say this, but it's not at all anymore. I wouldn't eat there again after our last experience. The pizza was mediocre at best and you could tell from the sesame seeds being all over the actual pizza instead of the crust that the people making it didn't care. The pesto dressing wasn't good either, and I used to buy jars of it to go. It wasn't an issue of being too busy either. There were 3 tables.
