I did not catch the guys name, but he was totally rude and disrespectful and offered zero input on a question I had about plastic. He was miserable and took his bad attitude out on a customer. I came here for an estimate for materials for a project and their staff is extremely helpful! Although they are pretty old school (no email, no online orders), they sure know their stuff and they are able to give a lot of tips if you come into the store and tell them what you're looking for. This is also a good shop to browse around for more project ideas, as they have many plastic items ready for sale. Tip: do not ask them if they do online orders (made that mistake once and did not get a very friendly response). read more

TAP Plastics is a great resource for everything plastic! I like that it is both a store and a fabricator. They'll help you build any plastic project through free advice or actually building the project for you. I've done several prototypes using the Alameda store in San Jose. They also have stores in South San Jose, Mountain View and SF. If you are using the Epilog Lasers at the Tech Shop you can pickup Acrylic panels here. They'll even help you cut them down to size (the laser cutter will fit an 18x24" piece). You can also pick up Vinyl stickers for the vinyl cutter too. Lots of other plastics and solvents too. This place has awful customer service. I ordered a piece in October. It had a pattern and very clear instructions about the placement of holes to be drilled. TWO MONTHS LATER, after hearing nothing from the company, I called and they said, "Oh it's here, we were just waiting to confirm where the holes should be drilled." I told them to drill the holes exactly where they are indicated on the pattern. I drove an hour to pick up the piece today and they STILL hadn't drilled the holes. I took it home and will do it myself. The owner, Jeff, was curt and nasty on the phone, to boot. Don't depend on him or his staff to notify you when your job is finished, and to actually finish the job. read more

This is now my "go to" place for any of my plastic needs. The staff is very helpful and welcoming. I first came here this summer to get a piece of plastic sized for a DIY air condition project. Jeff was the one who helped me out. I told him about my project needs, and the staff was very aware of what needed to be done. After i did some re-measurements at my home, to which they suggested, they were able to cut a perfect size of plastic for me. Most recently I took some fragile plastic light covers to them, and they did a clean cut of them as well. I am definitely coming back to this spot. They do quality work that comes out looking great. If you go there you should check your completed order for accuracy before you leave with it. I am not very mobile. I picked up my completed order and went back out to the car and saw that it wasn't even close to what they themselves had measured in the store. I hobbled back inside and asked them to give me a correct version, which they then did. I wondered to myself how a company that has been in business there since the 1950s could mess up a small order. I looked on the internet and read that the company has revenues of millions of dollars. Maybe that is the answer, they don't want to be bothered. read more

These guys are the best! Friendly, super knowledgeable and the products/services are really reasonable (and affordable!) I had a DIY project that required custom cut sheets of acrylic. After exhausting michaels, lowes, and home depot, I started looking on yelp and found TAP Plastics. Not only did they have exactly what I needed, but they patiently answered all my questions. I was in and out in under 20 min with my custom cut pieces for such an affordable price! Keep in mind they were short staffed and really busy. Best part- they have their own parking lot in the back, and they're next to coffee shops incase you're project does require some wait time (mine didn't). It's been a review long overdue. Every time I look at our puzzle I think of how patient and how helpful the people at Tap Plastics are. We probably had our custom frame made a year and a half ago. This place a great, lots of accessories/misc stuff but I came in to have some ABS plastic plate cut to order in the morning hours and have never been here before. I placed my order with the gal at the desk and she said the order would take about 10-15 minutes, no problem as Starbucks/Peets Coffee was right next door/across the street but I decided to browse the place abit before heading out for coffee and within 3-4 minutes my order was completed and I was very happy with the quick service. The prices was also lower than quoted online/better than Amazon, so that was a plus too. I had such a positive experience with Tap Plastics in San Jose! We needed to get 70 shields, plus 4 additional shields designed and fabricated and they totally crushed it! The turnaround was amazing, it was literally days and the order was ready for pick up. They also offered a courier delivery to one of our specific stores which was really great. Beyond the call of duty! I accidentally gave the wrong dimensions for some acrylic sheet (36"x48", should have been 36" x 8'). When I realized my mistake (after they brought out the too-small pieces) I was trying to figure out some way to use them so they wouldn't go to waste... the manager then offered to cut me another sheet, the right size, at 1/2 price! That's more than $100 that they ate on the deal. I offered several times to pay full price (I really felt bad), but he insisted. I'm not used to customer service like this! I just had a very large display case make for a bronze statue. It was excellent!!! Beautiful, well made. I selected 3/16 acrylic as the material. It did not look good. Glue was having problems. Here is my recommendation, make sure you call before you go in to ask any questions you may have. You will get much better service if you make a phone call versus showing up in person, because they tend to spend more time on the phone with customers than the people that are actually in the store waiting. Secondly, don't even think about taking any plastic there of your own to be cut, no matter how small it is, they will refuse to do it in fear of getting sued. I took a $10 plastic tote with 2 3 inch circular marks to cut, and they refused. BUT, if you want to find out where to go to have plastic cut, they would love to give you the name of a guy who will do it. Thanks for nothing TAP. read more

I didn't even go inside and I know they have terrible customer service. I got to the door at 6pm sharp (right at their closing time). I knew exactly the one piece of plastic rod that I needed and had cash in my hand, would have been a 1 minute transaction and out the door. Door is locked, damn! But that's reasonable, and NOT why I gave this place 1 star. Some old lady inside (must be the SAME ONE that many other yelpers are complaining about) was standing right inside the door, helping out a customer inside. I knocked lightly on the glass door to get her attention. She turns around with a half-annoyed look on her face. I give her a desperate look and say I just need one thing!! She doesn't even acknowledge me, just turns around and walks to her counter. I'm waiting outside of that door for 5 minutes while she helps the customer inside pay for his items (a bunch of $1 scrap pieces..), and then goes to the back to turn off the lights and leaves. Thanks for wasting my time. Now.. I wouldn't have been pissed, if she just told me "sorry we are closed already". Instead, she just let me hang out by that door without saying a word to me. Had this lady known any bit of common courtesy, I wouldn't have bothered to write a negative review. Congratulations, your extraordinarily bad manners and poor attitude have earned it for this store. read more
