The owner, James, came out to say hello and share his story about the business, which I learned opened within the last 9 months. I'd just happened to see a PBS special on Visalia a few months prior to my stay and learned of The Darling and its fabulous rooftop restaurant, Elderwood. I knew right away that this was the place for me. Delightful accommodations. Absolutely beautiful room - and bathroom! All the little touches make a big difference, like the self-serve coffee/tea/water bar and the in-room complimentary snacks and water. Don't miss the restaurant upstairs! I enjoyed an early breakfast my first morning there and dinner the next night. (See my separate review for Elderwood.) Never thought I'd say that I forward to returning to Visalia but I'll coming rushing back to The Darling when I do!
