This is my favorite place for a special meal. The food is wonderful and the staff,excellent. I hosted eight of my family there last night and we were all very satisfied. Cool hand Luke's has been one of my top steakhouses I've tasted. There's a lot of options to choose from apart from steaks . There's burgers, sandwiches, salads, seafood, etc. They as well have the best strawberry lemonade I've tasted. They serve you unlimited rolls and beans. Service was good but that could be because we were one of very few parties at 5 pm on a Saturday. We ordered two meals, one with an "upgrade" to the side salad to a Caesar. That was a $5 cost for their version of a side salad Caesar--a handful of romaine lettuce with bottled dressing and croutons so hard you couldn't eat them. My husband's streak had a strange,"processed"-like texture and taste. Lastly, we were celebrating a birthday so my husband quietly told the server. Went to early dining here on a weekday. Service was good; wasn't crowded. They have an early dining menu before 6pm Sunday thru Thursdays and a special for selected drinks. All meals come with campfire beans ( which were nice and spicy ) and some delicious rolls with garlic butter. Ambiance is laid back almost like your at a saloon. Ordered the bourbon shrimp ; loved the bourbon taste ; shrimps were good. The redskin mashed potatoes were nice and hot ; just the way I like my food. Creamy yet nice and thick. I am shocked this place doesn't have 5 stars! I was in town for work, and had a group of 10 come to dinner here. The steak was flavorful and juicy. I was not a big fan of the bread, however I LOVED the beans! Hands down the best beans I have ever had. We ordered the cowboy cookie and bread pudding were outstanding. I am not much if a dessert person, but these were certainly worth the calories. The restaurant is full of history of Tulare with pictures on the wall of the 1800's and 1900's of the city. I came to Cool Hand Luke's for dinner with a friend group. It was my first visit to CHL's. The restaurant is nice with large tables and a separate bar area. Our server was wonderful and the service was excellent. Our dinners were brought out sparingly based on the type of dinner which I had never experienced. I went with the Steakhouse Cobb Salad which was not the best choice. The steak was a bit chewy, the avocado and tomatoes were chopped much too small and the lettuce wasn't very fresh. read more

We wondered why this place was a ghost town on a Saturday evening. Found out why. We were literally the only family in the dining area. We never got waited on. Once we were sat, about 10 minutes passed and no one came to take a drink order or anything. I watched two waitresses walk by and look at us and keep going. I've been here several times with my mother and my sister. The food is good, my favs are the happy hour bacon bourbon wrapped shrimp and the steak nachos!!!! You can't go wrong with any of the happy hour prices but it's only n the bar area. Went here on 02/16/2022- it's not that it was busy, but it was the fact that with this pandemic that they might be short staffed, but a lot of tables were dirty upon walking in the bar making that selection limited. It was pretty funny to watch the bartender instantly greet 2 young ladies who walked in and sat down at a table, but when we walked in we had to walk around looking for available seats and we were not greeted by anyone... that bartender must've been single trying to mingle because the grin on his face that was so obvious that he was ready to assist "certain" ladies of his likings. That still didn't take away from our experience as our waitress was great and she did the best that she could with the amount of people that she was serving by herself. She gave my sister huge cups of water as my sister is always asking for refills. All of our appetizers came out in a reasonable amount of time. The only con is that the loaded fries and their french fries with their sliders needed a tad bit more salt. Went into the saloon so we could sit immediately since they said there would be a wait for the dining room (even though there seemed to be empty tables, they must have been understaffed). Seemed like they needed more people helping in there too, since it took a while to have our server come over or give us a menu. She was nice enough but did seem like she was busy doing other things. The only free table that didn't need to be bussed was a high top, so we took that. It definitely wouldn't be somewhere I would go to impress anyone, and I'm a little surprised they can charge as much as they do, since the atmosphere is mediocre at best. They have a great happy hour menu with cheap drinks and apps. I am a sucker for a happy hour menu. The bread here is sooo good! They keep them coming if you ask for it.
