Absolutely amazing little side restaurant to Akasaka sushi! They have their own entrance, but we did go in through the main entrance. I took off a star because the restrooms had a very strange smell, and it was almost to a point to where I had to hold my breath. Anyhow, our waitress, which I completely forgot her name, she was wonderful. She made us a lychee martini with all sake, and it was so delicious! We ordered the eggplant skewers, the steak skewer, mushroom skewer, wings, two sushi rolls and the Ramen. We were so stuffed! We each took some food home as well. Came in on Thursday for a date night and was super pleased! Didn't know this was connected to Akasaka and shares the same enterance. Our waiter was super nice. I enjoyed some edamame and dumplings as starters. The dumplings were steamed and so soft! Next we got our rice cakes which were just so delicious, but I just love rice cakes lol! For the final roll, I got the flaming K roll, which caught me attention as it had curry sauce! This roll literally came out fire. Overall, everything was delicious and brought out slowly to enjoy each plate individually. I paired this meal with a refreshing lychee martini that did not disappoint. Walked in. Friday night. Per yelp, their hours were 7pm- whenever. I didn't catch the closing hours. We arrived at 720pm and the place was getting packed. There were maybe 3 empty tables left and we grabbed one of the last few. Parking for this plaza is plentiful but is also super packed. It shares it with so many other businesses and it's a huge plaza. We parked a little farther and walked. The entrance for this place isnt actually where the door is, it's actually right through the door of the restaurant Nextdoor. We walked in. Was greeted and told the hostess that we'd like to dine at Tapanomi. She said okay, grabbed a few menus and walked over and sat us right away before it got busy. We were greeted right away. Our waitress took our drink orders, explained the menu a bit and gave us some time to look over the menu. By the time she came back with our drinks, we were ready to order. Apparently we heard her saying all night that she was also the waitress but also making the drinks as well. :) We ordered a handful of things. Fried oysters, shrimp tempura (it came w/veggies), scallop and steak skewers, tuna hand roll, chicken skin, tempura roll, oyster roll (something like that), mushroom skewer, chicken heart and gizzards. Hubby's favorite were the fried oysters. My favorite was the shrimp tempura. Our least favorite and what we won't recommend and will not order again if we came back here would be the chicken skin. Gross! The chicken skin was basically a long piece of boiled chicken skin in sauce. The sauce couldn't help cover up the lack of taste. The grease and fatty texture was disgusting. It's boiled chicken skin. There's no other way to put it. Service throughout was good. The chefs even brought out some of the dishes themselves. Our waitress was busy but she checked up on us often. We enjoyed the different plates we got which included the steamed gyozas, takoyaki, salmon tataki, salmon and yellowtail hand rolls, and a few different yakitoris and steak options. Favorite app was the takoyaki. I enjoyed the batter being more cooked and the sauces it came with made it super flavorful. The filet mignon steak skewer was my husbands favorite out of all the ones we tried. All the skewers had great flavorful and I would say getting about 3 to 4 with an app will fill you up. The kawa skewer was different from what are used to which is much more crispier. Theirs had more chicken meat with the skin. Just something to keep in mind if you were wanting to try it. Tapanomi is a 10/10. Vibe is lowkey and intimate. Each set is set with cute chopsticks and a small dish. Food is extremely flavorful and was cooked to perfect. Servings are perfect for sharing. Every dish had top tier presentation. Fresh and tasty! This is added to my top spots in Orlando. The fried rice was one of my favorite dishes. It was huge and had rice and chicken and egg in it. I tried Tapanomi out for the first time tonight and it definitely did not disappoint. I believe this is a brand new addition added on to an existing restaurant in the Plaza I wasn't entirely sure, but there was definitely two restaurants in two different menus we were given the option to order off of both which I thought was nice. Everything here was tapas style and very shareable. My party and I all shared everything and we had no complaints about anything. my favorite was the coconut shrimp hand roll. First, we arrived with my sister as two separate groups. Both groups had reservations at 7:15 PM. A staff member (waiter or host?) told us there was only one table available for both groups and asked one group to wait until the other finished their meal?! That was already frustrating -- especially since there were clearly two tables available. Second, we waited two full hours for a bowl of ramen, which we eventually had to cancel because it never came. Third, we ordered scallops that never arrived. When we asked about it, the cook insisted she had already served them -- which was simply not true. Fourth, we placed three orders of chicken skin. Only one arrived -- and it was raw. Luckily, we noticed before eating it. Otherwise, we could have ended up in the ER -- all while just trying to enjoy a vacation. Fifth, most orders were messed up. The owner witnessed everything and didn't bother to check in or offer any apology. And all of these complaints were just from our table. My sister's table had even more issues. They sat there for two hours and left hungry. Overall, this was the worst dining experience we've ever had. If you're looking for decent service or a place to enjoy a meal while traveling, this is definitely not the place. read more

There's a lot to unpack from this visit. My bill for two people was $200 before tip. The overall atmosphere leaned heavily into a minimal, almost sterile aesthetic--reminiscent of an IKEA showroom, which didn't quite match the culinary ambition suggested by the menu, pricing, or the social media presence that caught our eye. On a positive note, the cocktails were well-executed and enjoyable. Unfortunately, that's where the highlights ended. The appetizers lacked flavor and finesse. The shrimp shumai were disappointingly bland, and the truffle fries arrived soggy, excessively oily, and without any noticeable truffle flavor--likely due to improper frying temperature and the use of artificial truffle oil rather than genuine truffle. Parmesan doesn't fix everything. The yakitori skewers were aggressively Americanized and coated in sugar from the teriyaki, overcooked and under-seasoned, failing to deliver on the bold simplicity that makes this dish shine when done correctly. Steak options were served with an aggressive char that bordered on burnt, with a texture and taste reminiscent of a Pittsburgh-style well-done cut--dry and lacking nuance. The temaki rolls were overwhelmingly packed with mediocre rice, leaving little room for the protein, which we ended up eating on its own. Leaving plenty of rice to be reused elsewhere. The imitation crab volcano roll was dominated by cream cheese and came with a steep $27 price tag--difficult to justify for the quality, and did I mention the use of imitation crab when they offer real crab on the menu... for that price... The experience was further diminished by the facility layout. The restroom was not located within the restaurant itself but required walking through a cluttered hallway of another adjacent business, dodging exposed wires, stacked chairs, and cases of alcohol along the way--an unpolished and unprofessional detail that added to the overall impression which I usually overlook when the food is good. In short, while the drinks offered promise, the food and setting fell far short of expectations, especially at this price point. The service was pleasant and well intentioned. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, DO NOT RECOMMEND. Our waitress (long brown hair, glasses, she did not provide her name) was extremely rude from the start. She slammed plates down at our table and repeatedly asked us things like "are you finally done?" in a very aggressive tone. We were genuinely confused by the hostility, as we had done nothing to warrant it. Because of the poor service and disrespectful attitude, we chose not to leave a tip. After we left the restaurant, she followed us into the parking lot and began yelling at us, demanding to know why we didn't tip and telling us to never go out to eat again. This was shocking, unprofessional, and completely inappropriate. What made the situation even more uncomfortable was that our party was Asian, and we did not see other tables being treated this way. For an Asian restaurant, this behavior felt especially upsetting and raised serious concerns. Overall, the experience felt confrontational and uncomfortable every time she came to our table, as if we were being interrogated for no reason. Management seriously needs to address this behavior, because no customer should ever be treated like this. read more

I love exploring izakayas in orlando and unfortunately this place was not good. The dishes were average, no dishes stood out. My fries were very under cooked, almost inedible. I could taste the crunch in the potato. The chicken skewers were not what I had expected as well. I thought they would be fried and crispy, but they seemed boiled and grilled instead. Maybe this restaurant does their chicken skin skewers differently compared to other izakayas, and they're other people that like chewy skin, but for me, it's not my cup of tea. The place does happen to operate two restaurants at the same time and I feel it affects the quality of the food and service. A little disorganized and rushed. Everyone looked like they were frantically running. I had to remind my waiter for a straw and my table never got our soy sauce while other tables around me got theirs.
