Extremely SMALL portions. VERY overpriced for the area and for what you get. You basically get a few bites of food for exorbitant prices. The food was just ok, not worth the money. The owner/bartender was rude. We had a table of 5 and 4 pieces of filet came. It was grisly and overcooked - the owner asks "if it was bad why did you eat it all?" We explained that 4 people tried 1 piece each. He took it off the bill reluctantly. The decor is dark and old. I wouldn't come here for more than a martini. Fail. read more

This is an awesome place to enjoy a good selection of beer, unlike your common bar with boring drafts, Tapastre has unique and different types that I guarantee you will love. I went for lunch time; the outside seating caught my attention. Inside, it looked even better, the place has a good vibe with the way its decorated. My bf and I sat at the bar and ordered some food. Mike was behind the bar, he is a very personable man, schooled us on all the beer. He knows what he is talking about! You know a bartender takes care of you when he gives you water in between your drinks lol. I was not disappointed with the food either, I have to make a second trip to try out more. Great beer options and service is usually decent, but food is hit or miss. We ordered duck crepes, best part of the meal, but they were served lukewarm. Second was the scallops that were over seared outside, under cooked in the middle, and didn't have much flavor. Finally, we had the pulled pork pizza, which was overcooked so the shredded pork was too chewy to eat. With all the other options in the area, probably won't be going back. read more

This is one of my favorite places. I love being able to get a couple different dishes. For 2 people we usually get 5 and there is plenty of food to share for a reasonable price. The duck crepes and the chorizo and shrimp are my favorites. The beef kebobs have been a little gristly on more than one occasion but the flavors are good. The pork pizza is a little heavy and greasy to me. I don't drink beer but husband has been happy with the flights. I like the Sangria. read more

One of my favorite spots in the area, especially when I feel like sitting outdoors. The food is good. I usually stick to the burgers or sandwiches but I have gotten pizzas and salads before and my friends have gotten the tapas. I love the attention to beer. They always have multiple beers I want to try. Plus the bartenders have so much fun it seems thinking of new cocktails. The bar manager, Joe is a great and charismatic friendly guy. Delicious food, superb service and extremely pleasant ambiance! My boyfriend and I have been meaning to eat here for a while, and now that we finally did, I can tell it'll be one of our favorites. We started at the bar with a drink -- and to study the menu. Wow! We wanted one of everything. Once we sat at the table and 'got serious,' Mike (manager/bartender/etc...?) advised us to start with two tapas each, and if we wanted more after that, they'd be happy to add on. Good plan. The dishes were served in the appropriate order, with just enough time in between. OK, portions are small, but as others have said: C'mon, it's tapas! And really ... do we need to have humongous amounts of food at every meal? No. The portion size enables you to truly savor the food, sip on your wine, converse with others, and look forward to the next tapas. I could have ordered more, but my wise beau persuaded me to think about dessert, instead. Yes! The Madeleine cookies, as the saying goes, were to die for! They're made to order, so you'll have to wait 10 minutes-ish, but it's oh-so-worth-it! Five stars for me! Yes, you'll spend a few dollars, but it's a great overall experience. Underwhelmed. The food was fine enough. The service, not so much. The restaurant was pretty empty on a Saturday night. And even though we ordered small plates, dinner, drinks, dessert coffee, etc, it must not have been enough for the hostess. I believe the hostess decided that we were there too long. She told our party that they needed our table for a reservation. If we wanted, we could go and sit at the bar after we paid our check. We said thanks, but no thanks. There were empty tables all around us. No line. No one waiting. We were very insulted that we were basically dismissed as customers. In this day and age with social media and sites where you can post reviews, perhaps it is not a great idea to treat your customers with contempt. I posted the story on my personal FB page and several people commented they had the same experience. There are TONS of restaurants in Somerville. I suggest you go to one of them. read more

Went to Tapestre for a quick bite to eat as it was getting late and we wanted something local without resevations. This restaurant is located in a basement of a restaurant that I when to many times and unfortunately the Pomedoro closed. I was expecting something good but not very impressed with the food as we had beer and burgers as a fast meal. for the money paid for the hamburgers, I would have expected something better. On a business trip, came across this tucked in the basement of a building on a side street in Somerville. Wowed by the beer selection and good selection of small bites and smaller portion meals. Service has been hit and miss over several occasions, had the owner provide exceptional service, on other occasions waited exceptionally long periods at the bar before getting attention. But the food makes me come back. Love the drunken clams on fire combination of jalapenos and pale ale broth. The burger with "bacon deliciousness" was serious food. read more

Went here a few days ago and was impressed - for someone typically not "a beer drinker" there was plenty to choose from that catered to a wide palette; including meads, pineapple cider, wine, and a huge selection of beer. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was! I ordered the veggie pizza and my friend got the PB Burger and everything was delicious. We also shared a brie appetizer and the jam with it was a great complement to the dish. Other tables had wraps with huge servings of fries. Definitely somewhere I will be going back to read more

I went for a happy hour drink. The three stars get them their beer selection. The minus two stars are their beer prices. $7 for their cheapest 16 ounce pour, which still looked low to the glass rim. And I have my doubts that was anywhere near a 16 ounce glass they poured it in to. My second complaint is that they carry Brix City Brewing Co beer. They carry alot of Jersey beers, but I don't respect spots that carry Jersey brands just because they are Jersey brands. A brand, or company needs to earn their way, and Brix City is the worst of the lot. I would say it's like forgotten in Cherry Hill or wherever they are from doing boardwalk beers, but Brix is despicable on another level. read more

Went here for lunch & drinks with the wife. Beer selection is deep, I believe somewhere in the low to mid twenties on total taps. Neither of us had one, but the mixed drink menu looked solid as well. There is an abundance of items on the menu to choose from and everything we tried tasted amazing and was presented well also. The staff behind the bar was friendly as well. It's kind of in a basement but the atmosphere is well suited. Dim lighting and the bar takes up most of the 2 to 4 walls. Bartender told us if you are with a party Friday or Saturday night and need a table call and make a reservation. Seating is somewhat lounge-y and it's not a huge place so plan accordingly. Bottom line and to the point: Beer selection, food, service and atmosphere are all an A+ at Tapastre. This is a tapas spot so don't come here too hungry because you'll leave broke. This is a place to go out and have some drinks with a loved one, some friends or a relative and order a bunch of different stuff because the menu is stacked. Service has gone down hill. Called with a question and was told I would get a call back and I've never did. My boyfriend called and made Valentine's reservations anyway since we have been there before. Not pleased with the prefix menu since I have dietary restrictions but understand that is standard for a holiday. So before Valentine's Day they email and call my boyfriend repeatedly demanding a credit card or they are cancelling our reservations. This is ridiculous. I'm not giving you a credit card before I even get there, and this was not mentioned at all at the time we made the reservations so why are you throwing this at your guests at the last minute, and in a rude and unprofessional way. Told them to forget it we won't be coming at all now and won't be back. Went to another restaurant, and had a fabulous night out. Not coming back which is disappointing, I used to enjoy this place but it's not worth being treated like this and jumping through hoops even trying to book a table with them! read more

I have to say I was a little skeptical to come after reading a few of the below reviews but the most recent was great so I figured maybe a few kinks had been worked out. I decided to take the chance and try it out on a Friday with 3 of my girlfriends. SO HAPPY WE DID!! There is absolutely nothing like this around and we LOVED the whole experience!!!!!! First of all the restaurant is BEAUTIFUL. Set down in the basement of Il Pomodoro. It has the feel of a mix between a comfy lounge and a upscale sports type bar. Big TVs and a huge bar! We were greeted and decided to grab a drink at the bar before sitting. (We were being brats and wanted the great little nook seat that was full of pillows and set back a little so we waited until it became available) The drinks were great! Generous pours and just enough friendly bar convo to make us feel comfortable. The manager (I think, Mike was his name?) came over to chat with us and say hi. Told us how the restaurant is going thru some awesome changes lately and gave us a few samples of new beers they have on tap. I had never tried any of them before so that was fun! So then we were seated and between 4 of us decided to get 3 rounds of 2 dishes to all share. We had Gambas Al Pil-Pil (prawns), Baked Brie, Scallops, Short ribs, Lamb Chops and the beef kabob. It was so fun to try all new things and I have to say we all ventured outside of our comfort zones with some of the choices but all were DEEEE LISH!!!! The manager and staff were the right amount of attentive so to not interrupt girl time but never let our drinks be empty for more than 10 seconds! We were stuffed and had to skip dessert but VOWED that once a month this is our new girl spot to come try new things and dessert review will come next! As a frequent "bar hopper" i found this restaurant to be most delightful! they had a wide verity of imported and domestic beers along with micro brews, the staff we trained very well on pairing drinks to your dish and over all the basement was very relaxing and trendy! i dentally plan on going again and would recommend it to my friends as well . read more

I've been here on four separate occasions in the last few months and leave happy every time. Great craft beer selection, decent wines and the food is up to par with NYC. Prices are reasonable for the level of service and food. We've had "Truffled Pork Pizza" : good but wasn't our favorite of the bunch. Black Tiger Prawns: Simple yet elegant Duck Confit Crepe: Crispy, seasoned well, very delicious Cesar Salad: Dressed nicely, very tasty Chicken Sandwich and the Burger: both VERY tasty Italian Zeppoles: YUM Homemade Madeleines: warm out of the oven, YUM It's a cute little place, friendly staff, and makes for a romantic evening or a good place to hang with your friends...Enjoy! read more

Started off great. Beer selection was spectacular, Setting was quaint yet stylish though not very intimate. And anything deep fried tasted great (Calamari, Potato Chips, Yukon Wedges..) You got the appearance they were a bit understaffed, but our sever was still excellent. Great plate presentation but the rest of the food was terrible. We took one bite of everything and spit most of it back out. All 3 Sliders types and the pizza were inedible. We spread them around to look like we ate most of it, took the pizza to go and threw it out. read more

Despite being on the pricey side, I love this place so much that I've been there 4 times in the past 6 months. Heck, I even decided to treat my whole family here for Christmas, and they spent the whole time comparing it favorably to the things we ate in Europe last summer. I am blown away by some of the great reviews I've read about this place. Average at best menu and food. Very over priced. The atmosphere itself was below average. To top it off, I ordered the "large" salad only to receive something the size of what you get for free with 2 slices of pizza at any local pizzeria.....and for $9 to boot. Hands down the best bar/restaurant in town!! I absolutely love what Mike has done with the beer selection. Bringing on a more craft-focused beer selection has really completed the place. I love the decor in here- very intimate, dimly lit, and comfortable. These guys really know what theyre doing because what better to pair their incredible tapas menu than flavorful hand crafted beer. Their beer list contains rare, small batch, and hard to find beers from all over the country. Once I walked into the bar, I was greeted by a handle of one of my favorite beers, Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard, and I knew this was my kind of place. In addition, they have a bunch of local microbrews I cant get back in Chicago like new jersey beer co, terrapin, and troegs to name a few. In addition to the beers and ambiance, the location of this place couldnt be better. Right in downtown, one block off main street, and with its own private parking lot. So versatile, I could bring a date here for an intimate dinner, or I could go in for a couple beers and watch the game at the bar (extremely comfortable barstools btw). My favorite part of this place is that you can have a couple pints, then BRING HOME YOUR FAVORITE BEER ON TAP with their togo beer cartons. Genius! Even if you arent hungry for their food (i dont see how thats possible), I can stop by on my way home and grab a beer carton of anything they offer on tap home with me. This is truly a business that can reach a broad variety of customers - foodies, beer geeks, families, and people looking for beer togo. My only problem with Tapastre? I wish I could give more stars. This restaurant has such an low key ambiance. It's a perfect way to end a busy day. I've had the same male waiter every time and he's always very attentive and friendly. I had the scallops, pizza and short ribs when I've gone and they were all so delicious. Their beer list is fantastic and if you're not a craft beer drinker and not sure what to get, the Waiters are very helpful in figuring out which beer is perfect for you. And lastly, it's not often that owners of restaurants will be present and check to see how dinner is but the owner at Tapastre always checks in. Just another added plus. I highly recommend this place, just make sure you make a reservation on the weekends. read more

I'm giving Tapastre 5 stars for some little things that add up to why everyone agrees this is a great place. They keep it like a well oiled machine. They know what they're good at, beers, fancy cocktails, and great food. And they'll tell you what to expect whether that's extra time allotted for their freshly made Madeline's, whether your drink will be sweet or herbal, what their best recommendations are... I once asked why they didn't do dessert drinks like port or Irish coffees and they told me that there are so many other great places in town to get those and that they stick to what they know. I appreciate that so much, supporting local AND keeping loyal to the craft. I also love that they only offer outdoor seating if you're eating. I know some people complain about that, but it helps keep crowds down and ensures a mellow outdoor dining experience. Everything Tapstre does they do RIGHT. read more

Somerville has very few places you can go and sit outside while enjoying a beverage, this place was always my go to until now.
