Sooooooo good! Great portions!!! We had the fish, al pastor, carnitas, carne asada and shrimp tacos. By far and away the fish taco was the best. Although, the carnitas were a close second. The greatest treat was the albondegas (meatball) soup. Great portion - it is a meal in-and-of-itself. Would definitely order it again. We also had the shrimp device - was ok. Just finished their breakfast burrito with bacon, and it was BOMB! I added refried beans in it seeing as how it normally only comes with eggs, cheese, and your choice of either sausage, bacon, or ham. The tortilla tastes homemade, and the eggs looked normal, not like those weird bright yellow fluffy eggs you get at some places. I'm going back for sure!!! read more

Taps burritos is like the thing you have to eat once in your life esp. the california burrito it has fries in it which sounds awkward but its delish. its super small and looks like it wouldn't be very good but it is a hidden treasure for sure. read more

Pollo Asado Burrito was subpar and a 2-star on its own. The chicken chunks were very big and the burrito was juicy, both of which were negatives in this case. The chunks were TOO big and I couldn't taste much of anything else. It was so juicy that after every bite, I was slurping my burrito like a straw. My biggest thing was that it lacked any Mexican flair. My family who was with me ordered other things and they were happy with their order so this is why I'm giving Tapatio's 3-stars. read more

This place used to be great, but the quality and cleanliness has taken a hard dive in recent months and my family no longer eats here. On separate occasions, we have either had meat that was not fully cooked, cold/frozen, or dead from sitting out all day and then being used to make new orders. The final straw was a California burrito with fries that were still frozen and a rather large insect. Alpine Taco Shop or Mañana's are much better options in Alpine. read more

I live in Alpine and this is our "go to" Mexican restaurant and have eaten there almost every weekend for 10+ years. The food is good. Staff is friendly. And they are fast. Not sure that it's a great dine-in experience, but there are some nice tables outside. The bean and cheese burritos are great, the beef taco plate is a favorite, but pretty much anything on the menu is good. For a family of four we typically spend less than $25, that's pretty hard to beat - so remember to tip. Highly recommended. read more

This used to be our favorite taco shop after going there for years. We had a bad experience for the first time on 8/22/17. They have a new cashier and she totally got our order wrong but we didn't realize until we go home. My husband called and they told him to return for the correct order. When he arrived they just gave him his money back without trying to correct the order. He asked to speak with the owner and the cook said he was the boss and laughed with the other cooks in the back with no apologies. We have never gone through this with them before. I hope the owner checks in on his shop or it will go down hill. That was very unprofessional and uncalled for. Another customer in front of us as well had to let them know that his order was wrong. Not sure what's going on there. Maybe they need new employees that care. read more

There are a few taco shops in Alpine. All are ok, this is the best. I have had everything on the menu except seafood. All of it is very good. The place is clean and the staff are friendly and polite. The only thing that is dicey is parking. Sometimes it is so busy that you just do a drive by and pass on dining out that night. Not Tapatio's fault, but tells you how good the food is. Best Fish Tacos in the Area This is the BEST Mexican Restaurant in Alpine, if taste and price are what you're looking for! The fish tacos are FANTASTIC and only a couple of dollars!!!! Unlike a "Rubios" fish taco (which is more like a fish-stick taco!) these are actual pieces of fish, fresh cabbage and a great sauce. Stopped here on the way to El Cajon based on the Yelp ratings and reviews. Yelp was right on the mark! This is a small eat-in, carry out place where you order at the counter. It was very well kept and clean. I ordered the carnitas and fish soft tacos. The carnitas was very good, but the fish taco was amazing. It came with a couple of good sized pieces of very fresh white fish that was slightly breaded and cooked perfectly. The taco was topped with a flavorful slaw, served on a freshly made soft tortilla and I topped it off with one of the homemade salsas . To be clear, when I get hungry, I still think about that taco! I also sampled 3 of the salsa's from mild to hot and all were very good. They also had a habanero salsa, but I did not want to scorch my taste buds, as the food was way too good. Service, atmosphere and quality of the food was all top notch. Can't stop thinking about that fish taco! If you are in the area and like Mexican food, you want to make sure to give it a try. I moved to Alpine recently and was looking for a good taco shop when I tried out Tapatios Mexican Grill. It's not very noticeable, more of a hole-in-the-wall spot and was a bit small on the inside... But what this location lacks in looks, it DEFINITELY makes up for in the portion size and quality of food. Their portions are decent, quality is superb and the prices are AMAZING!!!!! (You can get a delicious Cali Burrito with all the fixings for $6-7 bucks!!!) I've never gone there hungry and left unsatisfied. The cooks know what they're doing and I always get top-notch service. PLUS THEY ARE FAST!!!! I've waited in line for over an hour at the Barrel (another extremely popular taco shop in SD) but only waited about 10 minutes to get my order at Tapatios AND THE QUALITY WAS FAR SUPERIOR! This place used to be good but over the last couple months has gone down hill they talk about customers in Spanish right in front of them. They take a long time for the food and the food quality has gone downhill fast, don't order the chicken quesadilla and less you like chicken bones in it.
