The food was mediocre spending $80 it was not worth the value, no flavor and small portion. On top of that i placed a phone order today and the girl taking the orders was rude to me for no reason, I arrived when they said the food was ready but they didn't start making the food until after I paid so I had to wait another 15 minutes. Its sad because I usually go down the road for my Mexican food and I will keep doing that and never come back because of the overall bad service I experienced here at Alpine Taco Shop. read more

Alpine Taco Shop is exactly what you want from a local taco joint -- simple, no-frills, and seriously satisfying. It's the kind of place where you know what you're getting, and it hits the spot. Their California burrito is a beast. It's loaded with carne asada, crispy fries, cheese, guacamole, and sour cream -- pretty much everything you'd expect, but done right. Prices are fair, portions are big, and the staff is friendly and fast. It's not really a spot you hang out too long, but that's not what I'm here for. This is an amazing dive. I read some of the other Yelp reviews prior to going and I was on the fence. I'm glad I decided to give it a shot because the food is delicious! I got the Flying Saucer with Carne Asada. Basically it's a giant tostada with beans, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, meat and something called "American Guacamole" which is basically light green sour cream. It's supposed to be sour cream and avocado but it mostly tasted like sour cream. I probably could have done without that on but honestly, overall the Flying Saucer was super flavorful and the crisp fried flour tortilla and well seasoned steak totally made this a surprisingly flavorful meal. The Jamaica was also very tasty and refreshing--not too sweet. The decor is colorful, small but cute outdoor patio. The staff are friendly. My only caveat is the restroom. If you are planning to go there at night, bring a flashlight or use your phone because there is absolutely no light in the bathroom. It was bizarre. And the door outside the restroom kept creaking and shutting itself, so we joked that there was a ghost. read more

I got a couple breakfast burritos from here yesterday and I just didn't have the heart to complain because they are so nice here & I've been a fan for many years. HOWEVER the quality has really gone downhill. The tortillas were raw. No eggs. Very small. Greasy potatoes. I don't know if I will waste my $ here again. read more

Sad gone way down hill. No salsa bar, rolled tacos have very little guacamole and barely any lettuce or tomato. No prices on menu, I was charged $29.00 for 2 orders of rolled tacos and one chile relleno al carte. read more

Geez, I cant even believe I'm writing anything other than relentless praise for this place, but unfortunately here we are. I've been coming here for over 20 years. Literally 2/3 of my lifetime, this place has held the gold medal in my heart for veggie burritos. Wasn't even a competition, and trust me, over 20 years, I've tried to find somewhere closer to get my veggie burro fix. I only lived in alpine for 1 year, but the veggie burro had me coming back up for 20 years after because no where else could beat it. I dont think I've ever gotten anything else from here.. didn't need to. I'd spend the 1 hour round trip drive, gas, time... sounds excessive, yes? Maybe. But it was a nostalgic experience and just that. Damn. Good. All that to say, I wanted to give some background to convey that I feel uniquely qualified to leave this review. I'm not a "ate here once and maybe it was just an off day for them but I'm going to leave them a scathing review anyway" person. No no, we have a history. The last 3 times I've made the trip up it's been so disappointing. Their veggie burritos used to be perfect. Perfect ratios of ingredients, perfect texture, perfect flavor... literally perfect. These last few times they've been SO soggy, cold beans that are incredibly loose, wilted soggy lettuce, flavorless, literally tastes like water.... a complete 180 from what they used to be. I'd hate to think that my 20 year streak is finally over...but I can no longer justify the trip for the quality. I wish I could. ATS owners, if you decide to revert back to the old beans recipe (when they werent so water-logged) and maybe start spinning your lettuce to get all the water out (I assume that might be playing a factor also?) I ordered the regular nachos to go, once I got home they had the cheese on the side. opened the container and the cheese had bubbles on the top, I stirred it and it was completely watery. it was like they just used water and added a spoonful of cheese and mixed it in. I love this place. Can't believe we lived in alpine 4 years before we tried ATS! We were making our way through all the other Mexican food places in Alpine and I'm happy we finally tried this one. They have a private parking lot and private patio outside with 3 tables to eat. They also offer indoor dining with ~7 tables with AC so that's a big plus during the hot summer months. The staff is friendly and the food is consistently on point! They offer a huge menu and I love that they offer both Mexican and American guacamole options. ATS is loyal business in Alpine. They are constantly giving back to their community by supporting our local first responders, kids and so many worthily charities. If you haven't eaten here yet you need too! read more

No refills on a $4 soda...? Guacamole was/is NOT made from avocados. Not sure what it was but not guacamole. Taco was amazing but too much cheese (for me). Flying saucer was also amazing and stayed crunchy the whole time. Rolled tacos were just okay. They slathered them in the "guacamole" that didn't taste very good. read more

Hands down one of my favorite taco shops ever. I even lived in National City and struggled to find a taco shop as good as this one. I always get their carne asada fries, instead of carne asada, I ask for carnitas. Don't forget to ask for a side of their chipotle sour cream! My husband and I were on our way home from a bike ride and stopped at this little taco shop for a quick lunch. I ordered three tacos and he ordered a carnitas burrito. We grabbed a seat outside and waited for our food. It was a short wait as our food made its way to the table. The food was good! The tacos were moist and tasty and my husbands carnitas burrito was full of flavor. If I'm being honest, his burrito was better than my dish, so I know what to order next time! An alpine gem - for the fresh fast tacos and burritos and the community outreach - this place is our weekend lunch go-to. I can recommend the fresh and crispy fish burritos and flash fried potato tacos with sour cream and the house made hot sauce. I tried to deal with ATS's varying food quality, shrinkflation then inflation through the pandemic and while their competitor remained open. This was also in spite of consistently screwed up orders that would miss entire orders of carne asada fries or extra guacamole or sour cream. You would have to fight for reimbursement. I went again tonight after a very long hiatus, hoping they would have rectified things. Nachos shrank in size again and food quality had gone down. Even the guacamole and the red, hot salsa lacks spices and seasonings. I'm so bummed :( this place used to be the best but I think I'm done trying to make it work. read more

Horrible customer service! Walked in, there were no customers, heard people talking in the back. Waited a few minutes for someone to come to the counter. I even spoke loudly to my son to get someone's attention. Finally a girl shows up, she was very condescending. Took my order, fine. Another customer walks in, she had a totally different attitude towards this gentlemen. Maybe I wasn't the "right type of race". Got my order, I asked for extra sauce, still condescending towards me. I came into this taco shop with my boyfriend around 2:30 1/2/21 and I asked the female cashier her how big the potato taco was and she said it's a normal taco size. And I made like a size of how big with my hands and asked 'about this big' and she looked me dead in the eyes and said a normal taco size. I wanted to ask how big it was because there are small street tacos and I wanted to know if I should get more than one if they were small. My potato taco as you can see in the picture does not have very much potato. My boyfriend liked his burrito though. I like to support small businesses but if you get mad for someone asking you a basic question then you probably shouldn't be working in the service industry. read more

The lady on the cashier needs more experience treating customers I was there for two burritos and her attitude was not friendly at all I asked a simple question about her super breakfast burrito and she pointed at the board on front walked away leaving waiting for a couple mins three times after my order was ready she just placed it on the counter but never called my order... when I got back to my place the burritos were super small even tho I paid extra for the three meats and the large drinks I order were completely water down with no gas for almos 4 dollars... read more

Alpine Taco Shop is the best in town. But you never know when they're gonna be open. They take off random days and close. You look them up ait says open seven days a week that's a joke.
