I'm sad I didn't take a picture of my food before I ate it but I got the fish tacos and I love them. My husband got the California burrito without guac and he loves his as well. The woman who took my order was very friendly and efficient. This is the first Mexican joint I've tried since we moved here and I am not disappointed. Oh! And the prices aren't half bad either. I've seen the inside of many Mexican restaurants, some were good and some were bad. Tapatios is a small establishment with three tables in the dining section. The salsa bar features four different types, verde, medium, smoked chipotle, and hot. There are hot peppers, carrots, and limes available. Many ethnic foods have a signature dish that can measure the chefs cooking abilities, and Mexican is no different. I've learned in order to accurately judge the level of food, I order a chile relleno. Time and time again it seems to be an accurate indicator. They use a combination of green sauce and white cheese as a chile relleno topping. This is different since most places only offer red sauce. Cooked until golden brown, no scorch marks, light and without the heavy egg aftertaste. Overall I like this restaurant, still not convinced its the best taco stand in town. read more

Deliciously tender and well-cooked carne asada. We stopped in here after visiting Alpine Beer Co. (just next door) and found some great taco shop favorites. The carne asada was great. The BEST carnita's this east coaster has had in a looooong time. It was the first place we had gone after our 2700 mile journey across our nation. I don't know how they do it, but the carnita's are the perfect mix of crispy and tender. I'll agree with what someone else had mentioned about the guac. It's OK, but nothing to rave about. As an SD native and therefore high level burrito connoisseur, I have to say, this place really delivered a very solid burrito. I was coming back from hiking 3 Sisters Falls in Descanso, tried to stop at Alpine Beer Co (it was a holiday and they were closed) but was also starving and needed food. Saw this stop, ordered a fish burrito. Lady at the counter was super nice, even if she was annoyed that I only wanted a water with my food, and made it all happen. Burrito had an excellent fish/cabbage ratio, not an overwhelming almost of tarter sauce, and the right amount of pico de gallo. The fish was super crispy and chunky. If I make it out to this area again, I would stop by again. read more

Best fish and shrimp burrito I've ever had! This is the best taco shop in town (there are at least 5 Mexican restaurants in Alpine). Since I have moved out of Alpine I have not found another place that compares. I always order a fish or shrimp burrito at a new place to decide if the place is good or not. I keep finding reasons to go back up to Alpine so I can order burritos and take them home for the week. I love their carrots, chips and salsa too! The price is really reasonable for the excellent food. I have also ordered breakfast burritos from them too...which are excellent. read more

Usually the food is great, but not last night. We got our food to go (as usual), but when we got home we saw that both our orders were wrong. We could have overlooked this, but the carnitas were hard/crunchy, definitely not fresh. Extremely disappointed! This is a hidden gem in Alpine. If you live in the area, give this place a try, you will not be disappointed. We always go in during lunch and we've always been impressed. Their salsas are made daily in house, fresh. Their food is the best in Alpine and the surrounding areas. Get the Cali burrito and try the chunky salsa with it. It's the perfect combo. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor can be nice on a sunny day. The inside is always great on rainy days. Usually other taco shops will take forever to get the food ready but not this place. Very friendly service as well by all employees. I don't have much to say about Tapatios. I will put this in the most simple way possible: good food, good prices! The camarones a la diabla and the nachos we had were both really good!
