It's nice to go here for a Machaca burrito, in the morning, sit down, watch tv. Get your hot sauces, carrots.... Later in the day the carne asada burrito with rolled taco's, I like to eat the meat with their free chips from a warm popcorn machine. Another favorite is the Machaca plate. Great food, we had the Carne Asada burrito wrapped in a homemade fresh tortilla. Full of Carne Asada, tomatoes, guacamole, onions, salsa, rice & beans. You might want to cut it in half and share because it's really big. Fresh tortillas chips made daily, so yummy and they are free with your meal. My sister-in-law had the chicken enchilada and loved it! This is our second time here and we will definitely make this a regular place. It's a very small mom and pop restaurant. There's parking right in front on a busy street. Three tables inside and six tables on an outdoor patio. There are some barstools on the outdoor patio as well for seating. The food here is good. One of the go to places to eat. However since the ownership changed they started "sanitizing" their lobby and cleaning tables with Fabulosa lavender. It's so strong you can smell it outside. Number one I don't wanna smell cleaner in a food establishment. Number two Fabulosa is not food safe so they are sickening their customers with chemicals as well. It's so strong I was walking my dog last night on the side walk ten feet away last night and smelled it as a customer walked out. I will return and start eating there again when they stop using chemicals and polluting the air with disgusting fake smells. read more

I called in for pick up, and ordered a carne asada burrito with sour cream and cheese. When I picked up my food, she stated it was a California burrito. She knew they got the order wrong, but I told her it wasn't a big deal and I'll just take the Cali burrito. Super glad I did because it was one of the best Cali burritos I've had. I'm usually very particular where I order them from because more times than not, the fries are soggy and aren't crunchy. Their fries had a nice crunch, and there was lots of flavor. After landing at the San Diego airport, I got in my rental car and went straight to Alpine. I had a fantastic time at Alpine Beer Company (see my other Yelp review) and then realized I was super hungry and in need of food before going anywhere else. The folks at Alpine emphatically Tapatios, which was thankfully a few doors down. I got there around 3pm on a Thursday, and there were a few other folks getting their late afternoon lunch on, like myself. It is definitely a mom and pop kind of establishment. I got a combination plate of two enchiladas, which came with beans and rice ($7.50 - wow!). It might have been partly the beer talking, but this meal was just what I needed. It was delicious without being greasy, and the portion was very generous, especially for the price. It was delightful eating it on their outdoor front patio in the sun. read more

This place gets five stars on service alone. The man who helped us was so nice and attentive. He gave good food suggestions for my boyfriend (only eats the spiciest things he can find). He took our order and when he overheard us talking about sitting outside he immediately went out to the patio and wiped down every table and swept it as well. We were lucky to arrive when we did because four separate groups quickly showed up behind us. The food came out fast and was quite good. The shrimp in the Shrimp Diablo Burrito was really spicy, but not overly so that you could still taste it. I had the rolled tacos and they were good, not impressive but not bad either, just good solid food. Their habanero salsa also had some really good heat. This place is just about a mile off Highway 8 in Alpine and we only stopped for lunch because of the reviews that we saw on Yelp. My family and I love this place. The food is tasty, fresh, and reasonably priced. We live in Alpine but work downtown and constantly drive past all the Mexican joints in the city to come get this. The carene asada fries, bean and cheese burritos, rolled tacos, and veggie burritos (add pollo) are our favorites. If you like seafood and spicy, try the Diablo burrito. My fish tacos were awful, I don't know what happened to the sauce but it was practically non-existent! So, I was left with a piece of fried fish piled up with flavorless cabbage. Actually, I've had much better tacos from a food truck in the Midwest! My husband ordered a quesadilla and arrived home with a burrito instead. I stopped in here for a quick lunch a few months ago and was very impressed with the quality of the food. The Carne Asada Nachos, which were given rave reviews on Yelp, were calling me from the menu, so I ordered them to get a sense of the restaurant's approach to making Mexican food. The nachos arrived hot and ready to devour. The were really tasty from the first bite, with a generous portion of well-seasoned carne asada piled on a bed of fresh tortilla chips and dressed up with lots of sour cream, guacamole, beans, and cheddar cheese. Everything went well together, and I was stuffed by the time I got to the bottom of the plate. Mexican food can be complex to prepare, but most of the fare offered by the dozens of taco shops in San Diego County is just fair (pun intended). The trick in making it stand out (not really a secret) seems to be in the quality and freshness of the ingredients, and in the preparation and presentation, of course. Also, generous portions are always a good thing (think - leftovers!). Tapatios definitely has the best Mexican food in Alpine, and I intend to return here whenever I am passing through. I love this place! So my regular order is their Carne Asada burrito. It is "solid"! What does that mean really? Solid because I like the consistency of the quality; it has the perfect balance of carne asada and pico de gallo. The "salsa" bar is always stocked with their green, mild, and hot sauces. I like to be different to the degree that I feel like Pablo Picasso with the salsa, me the neophyte artist finding the right mix of green and red. Have you tried California Burrito before? Of course you have! Now I like to order my California with hash browns and not the typical French fries. It is good and the price is just right. The wait staff, ok who are we kidding here. There aren't any wait staff but the person behind the counter. The person who helped was cheerful and friendly and we had a choice of consuming our meal inside or the "al fresco" option. Horrible communication skills, not helpful what so ever. I called to place an order for pickup and Yvette answered my call to place @1:47 pm today. Then Came to pick up my order @2:20pm that was supposedly never given to the cooks to make. Finally no communication skills once again, So I started asking questions on my my order wasn't cooked? One man said "IDK it was Yvette that answered the phone". Yet still not wanting to help us to understand why my order wasn't made. I finally had to get her attention to ask her once again "why order was ready when they had 30mintues ". Yvette had nothing to say still.
