Oh wow! Amazing burgers. Good brews. Fair prices. Thoroughly impressed by this place. We are driving to rural Minnesota from Cali and this was on our drive. I really wanted to try Taphouse 41 for both dinners we ate in FSD. On the last day, we ate here for lunch and I must say that I am not that impressed. For being the #2 rated restaurant in the area, I just don't think that the duck fat fries are THAT good. I can see where this would be a popular watering hole for locals. In fact, most of the patrons at lunch were partaking of alcohol while we ate our burgers for lunch. It's just that when you stop outside afterward, you are reminded that Taphouse is located in a string of strip center shops somewhere between a furniture mart and a grocery store. I can't say anything bad about the service or the burger. Be aware that the more topping you order, the bigger your stack is going to be. Mine quickly became knife and fork eating because my mouth just isn't that big (don't snicker Brother!) Every raves about the duck fat fries. Let me describe them as I saw/tasted them: thin match stick french fries which then have duck fat and salt drizzled over them. Maybe it goes better with whiskey?!? My co-workers had the Chicago Dog, which was as authentic as they serve in Wrigley Field, and a chicken club sandwich. I appreciate uniqueness, but whoever decided to serve the chicken club with deep fried chicken fingers needs to read the definition of a "sandwich". It looked like the chef said "hey, we're out of breasts of chicken - but we have these kids chicken strips we could use." This was the only bad experience/meal of my visit to SD :( read more

The food and atmosphere we fine enough. My main criticism is with the bartender last night - Brent. I found him to be fairly unfriendly and certainly not attentive. Not once was I asked how anything was. When food arrived, there was no offer to get anything else that might be needed (like ketchup and mayo - another bartender finally helped get me those items). I am always in search of a good burger with some good beer. Servers are always keeping up with their Guests and all they need. Food was really good and the staff was extremely nice and efficient. The location seems odd but once you get inside you don't notice you are in a strip mall. The atmosphere is cool. Warm sports bar look with lots of TVs and brick walls. My husband and I have never been to Sioux Falls before and stumbled across Taphouse 41. The service was fantastic. Our server, Casey, was phenomenal. She helped with food and beer recommendations and didn't steer us wrong. We tried a couple different beers, but both had the Big Dipper for our meal. The Big Dipper is a patty melt with beer cheese dipping sauce, and was very good. If you like burgers and beer, this is the place to go. What a great find! We had the BLT, Sliders, Stuffed Tators & Kettle Chips with Onion Dip! The bacon on the BLT was over a 1/2 thick, bread was grilled perfectly! We were on our way home from vacation (Mt. Rushmore & the fun stuff in that area of the country). Stopped in Sioux Falls for the night . We always try for 'local' places. Our server was awesome. This was my BEST meal of our vacation!! I had the burger salad. I'm usually very skeptical of ordering a burger... because I don't want ANY pink in it. I told our server 'to burn it' & didn't want any pink. It was perfect! All the goodies in that salad, along with the dressing, made it so tasty. Good food. Excellent appetizers. It seems they are mostly a burger place. I suggest the Duck Fries, which are fries cooked in duck fat. Not for the weak of heart, but you only live once, unless you're into the reincarnation thing. Again, they do not brew their own beer but they do have a good regional list. I had the Lake Obkoboji Black Ale, which was delicious. My daughter had one of the Sioux Falls beers and it too was good. The burgers were excellent. I raise cattle so I usually get something other than beef when I go out, but they have a tasty burger. Again, the appetizers were very good. We also had the grilled brussels sprouts and those were tasty too. It's in a mall area, which is a turn off for me but the restaurant is comfortable. Lots of locals so they have a good base. This place is a rockin' place, literally. They have loud music playing all the time. That is not for me. They have a one page menu, with a few chef inspired dishes. They are all expertly prepared, and because of the limited menu, they bring your food out very fast. Yeah, if you like a good burger, this is the place . We both had the cheese and bacon burger and all but licked the plate, so to speak. We shared a medium order of fries. They were great . I also ordered the Brussels which were an original treatment that may change your opinion about Brussels sprouts. The waiter did forget to get mushrooms on my burger which would normally cost a star but he apologized and gave us a little off so no harm no foul. The burger was that good. The beer selection was good too although there were fewer than 41 choices. No problem as far as I am concerned since I found 2 brews I enjoyed. Definitely a good place. read more

I don't review often and i hate to be negative, BUT this review was necessary. I just ate (or partially ate) the worst meal i have had anywhere in the world in the last 15 years. The fried green beans appetizer were fried to a crisp and burnt. My medium well burger was burnt to a crisp and awful, and it was the saltiest thing i have ever (partially) eaten. The Tennessee sauce on the Q burger i ordered tasted awful. AND to top all of that off i sat at the bar which seats 10-12 and there were 2 other people at the bar, problem was the bartender (SARA SUE) was HORRIBLE, non existent, disinterested, short and awful. She could not have been less helpful, and could not have cared less about me, she seemed to grant some of her valuable time to a person at the bar that she appeared to know, apparently if you don't know her she cant be bothered with you. Shame on you manager of the restaurant for hiring a cook that cant cook, and shame on you for putting SARA SUE behind the bar, ridiculous! Her customer service skills are NON EXISTENT. Thankfully i dont live here and was just in town on business so i never have to come back. I am leaving hungrier then when i came. The beer i had was good, when i tried to ask about beers SARA SUE said you want this one, when i asked for a taste she seemed annoyed. People who tend to rave about JL Beers have not experienced Taphouse 41 conveniently located next to Scheels in the Western Mall. Don't get me wrong, JL's beer and burger selection is good, but why settle for good when you can get great for the same or better prices in a nicer atmosphere? I love every aspect of this place. The ambience is a beautiful balance with the old Edison lights that aren't too dark or bright, classic rock music at the right volume, TV layout, service, the list goes on... Now, the most important part -- the food and drink. Everything I've had here for food has exceeded my expectations. The portion sizes and quality cannot be beat for the prices they charge. The best part? They have happy hour every day from 3-6 and all day Sunday in which the already cheap appetizers become half price and $2 off all beers on tap. Today I tried the Skillet Brussels originally $6, $3 for happy hour are sautéed in garlic herb butter with onion, bacon, and gorgonzola cheese and I couldn't even finish them before being satisfied. I also ordered a large portion of "Taters" which are fried hash potatoe style balls stuffed with mixed cheese, chives, and roasted garlic. Another personal favorite of mine here is the PBR burger which comes topped with duck fat fries, beer cheese, jalapeño, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles, finished with roasted garlic mayo for a grand total of $8...You won't find that at JL beers... They keep 24 ever-changing taps serving some of the best beers locally and across the nation. Each visit presents opportunities to try something new - Nitro scotch ales to peanut butter porters. Their list of bourbons is also endless with all drinks being more than fairly priced. There isn't a place in Sioux Falls I could say more positive things about.
