Stumbled upon this spot while wandering around after checking into the hotel next door. We grabbed a beer from the bar and settled onto one of the patios to take in the scenery. Ended up striking up a conversation with one of the employees, Blade, who was fantastic. We mentioned how much we admired the potted floral arrangements lining the patio, every detail felt so intentional and looked absolutely beautiful. Blade gave credit to one of the owners, Elvie Cartwright. Well Elvie, if you see this: you have an incredible green thumb and an artist's eye for beauty. Kudos. As someone with a Soy allergy, I had a pretty disappointing and dangerous experience. After lots of back and forth communication between our waiter and kitchen staff, I was informed that they use soy oil on the entire flat top so anything cooked there wouldn't be safe for me. Unfortunate to say the least as this is my first experience with that at a restaurant. I then asked if any salad would be safe for me. He went back to the kitchen again and returned to inform me that the kitchen said the Caesar Salad, with the exception of the croutons, would be soy free. When our food arrived, my salad had croutons on it. We waved down a different waiter who apologized and took it back right away for a replacement - she was lovely. When our original waiter came to check on us, he asked us if my salad "looked safe" and chuckled. Granted, all I was eating now was a bowl of lettuce, dressing, and cheese as it was my only option. I informed him the first salad had croutons on it, which his response was something along the lines of "Haha Oh, yeah I didn't write it down without croutons. My bad." As someone with an allergy, I didn't feel like I was safe to eat anything here. The waiters attitude was not only dismissive and disrespectful, but allergies not being taken seriously is dangerous and playing with someone's wellbeing. Hopefully they'll do better in the future so others with allergies can experience a safe and enjoyable meal. Taprock restaurant is a big beautiful building with lots of dining options, it always busy and usually there's a wait to be seated, we went on a weekday and had a 10 min wait, it was very busy at 4:30. Our seating was in the bar downstairs which was very busy and noisy which was ok for 2 of us unfortunately 2 of our party were deaf and that was an issue for visiting. Our dinners: clam linguine, small clams in butter wine sauce was good, lots of broth and noodles could have had more clams. Dinner salads were great, big, crisp and fresh. Hubby had the meatballs with whipped potatoes, not a big meal but very tasty. I often buy ribeye steaks at the Cartwright's market and they are wonderful. Cartwright's owns Taprock restaurant so I figured that's the steak they'd serve but no it was thin and tough like a top round steak, it was cooked med rare that I ordered. It wasn't cheap, won't order again. Margaritas were very good. Service was excellent and there was lots of hired help in all areas. Absolutely amazing experience! Everything was delicious -- both the pasta and the steak were excellent. And the dessert... honestly, there are no words to describe how incredible it was! The view from the restaurant, as well as the beautiful surroundings, made the experience even more special, especially with the clean river right nearby. I was honored to have a dinner at Taprock Northwest Grill. The restaurant is beautiful with the view of the Rogue River. I was so impressed with the service and the ambiance but it was the food!! The appetizers were plentiful and delicious. My steak was grilled to perfection and my baked potato was freshly baked. Have eaten here before and it's always been fantastic! We weren't disappointed when we stopped for breakfast. Somehow we arrived 5 minutes before lunch, the waitress said she'd give it a try and sure enough out came two fabulous omelette's, one with fruit on the side, the other with potatoes, beautifully prepared. Great spot to eat off the river! The inside is like a nice wood cabin family friendly too! We were visiting family and enjoyed a nice lunch after the Hellgate jet boat ride. I wish I got a picture of everything because it all looked great and tasted great. Only thing was my kids were not a fan of the Mac N cheese because it was what I call "fancy" not your typical Kraft Mac. The adults liked it but my "picky eaters" did not so I would get the chicken nuggets and fries next time! They still enjoyed the lemonade and ate my fries These were great fish and chips! We had a lovely evening here. The atmosphere is casual with a beautiful view, and the staff were warm and attentive -- even management checked in to make sure we were enjoying our night. The caprese salad was excellent with fresh flavorful burrata, cherry tomatoes lightly dressed in oil and garlic, balanced balsamic, arugula, microgreens, and edible flowers -- thoughtful and elevated. The bacon-wrapped filet special was one of the most tender steaks I've had in a long time, and we were told it came from a local butcher. The mahi mahi tacos were juicy and well-cooked, though warm or toasted tortillas would make them even better. It would be great to see more detail on the menu about local sourcing. As a visitor, that makes the experience feel even more special. Looking forward to stopping in again someday! read more

Beautiful View, Disappointing Food and Service My wife and I recently had dinner at Cartwright's Taprock Northwest Grill in Grants Pass. We were seated at a wonderful table overlooking the river, and we were looking forward to what we expected would be a great meal. Unfortunately, everything went downhill after we ordered. My wife ordered the Filet Mignon with a dinner salad. When I ordered the same meal, our waitress told me they had just run out of Filet Mignon. I asked if my wife's order was still available, and she assured us that it was. Based on her recommendation, I ordered the Rib Eye ($42) along with sautéed mushrooms and a Bacardi & Coke Tall with lime. The problems continued from there: * My drink arrived with no lime. When I asked about it, I was told they only had lime rinds with no juice, so I had to settle for lemon. Had I known this when ordering, I would have chosen a different drink. * My wife specifically requested her salad before the meal, but it arrived at the same time as the entrées, making it pointless as a starter. * I requested no sour cream on my baked potato, yet it arrived piled high with sour cream and had to be sent back. * Both steaks were extremely tough, and we each ate only a small portion before giving up. The biggest disappointment came when the bill arrived. My wife noticed she had been served and charged for a Sirloin Steak instead of the Filet Mignon she ordered. When we questioned the waitress, she replied, "I told you we were out of Filet Mignon." My wife reminded her that she had specifically been told her Filet Mignon was available but not mine. We then asked why it had been substituted with what appeared to be the least expensive steak on the menu without informing us, but we never received a real explanation or apology. Our bill was $91, and unfortunately it was the worst restaurant meal we have had since moving to Grants Pass. The river view is beautiful, but good scenery cannot make up for poor communication, incorrect orders, tough steaks, and a lack of transparency. Had someone simply explained the situation and allowed us to choose another entrée, this review would have been very different. I sincerely hope management uses this feedback to improve, because the location deserves a dining experience that matches the spectacular view. read more

I have not been here in years, and noticed they are now called Cartrights Taprock so I figured it's worth giving them another try as they are now under new owners? Management? We walked in and noticed only a few tables were filled but the hostess told us it's a half hour wait to get seated? When I asked why, since so many tables were empty she said it was due to the kitchen, so I guess that means they were short staffed? We did wait and eventually got seated. I ordered the lunch special of soup, salad and sandwich. I found it to be quite delicious! The ranch dressing was outstanding and the salad fresh, the soup was very tasty and the BLT had such a great aoli sauce. I was impressed with how good it all tasted! When Taprock first changed hands it was a great change. The food was much better than before. So much for change, the quality of food has gone downhill big time and prices have gone up. We were a group of 9 On Friday evening 7/17. I ordered a rib dip. At one time it was prime rib dip now it seems to be roast beef trimmings. I ordered a house Cabernet which is usually about $8.00 when the bill came it was $14.00. Now comes the mandatory $15% gratuity for a group of only 9 people. I can understand the charge for a larger group but not for 9. I usually give 18-20% but since they demanded 15% I got off easy. Thank you Taprock. You shot yourself in the foot! Due to the drop in quality of their food and the rise in prices and a little padding of the bill it is probably my last visit to Taprock! read more

Was hoping to sit upstairs to enjoy view of river and high ceilings. Instead we were taken down to the dungeon room full of noisy bar goers and creaky old chairs. Since Cartwright took over the restaurant has really declined . The menu is lacking in vegetarian choices and the portions are meager. We received 6 incredibly slim zucchini logs aka twigs for 17 dollars Won't be going back as the staff and management didn't bat an eye when I pointed out problems They just said some days are like this ! read more

Popped in for a drink and a snack. Beautiful outdoor patio overlooking the Rogue river! We both had the Bloody Mary, it was spicy and had the right amount of horseradish. The garnishes were awesome, bacon was cooked perfectly. We also had the lollipop chicken "wings" they were seasoned and sauced perfectly, the ranch and blue cheese were very good tasted home made. We were eyeballing other tables food and also gawked at every dish that was walked past our table and it all looked really good! Will definitely return to try a proper meal here! Hadn't visited Taprock in several years. But now that Cartwright's Market has taken over management, AND they added a breakfast menu...I had to revisit. It's also much needed, that we have a large group breakfast gathering place, which Grants Pass is in short supply of in my view. Nice view of the Rogue River a nice plus. Sunday morning 11a wait time to be seated was less than 15 min. Table service arrived within a few minutes, and service was good throughout breakfast. I went with my favorite breakfast item which is a chicken fried steak, potatoes, poached eggs, biscuit, and gravy. In house breaded steak, wonderful housemade sausage gravy, and a nice take on a biscuit...not the typical huge tasteless mass you often see, but a flavor filled, moist biscuit with a fried bread taste and texture. I was hoping for shredded hashbrowns, all they offered was O'Brien potatoes....BUT delightfully surprised that theirs is finely chopped, which is a huge improvement over the huge chunks normally served at other places. My partner ordered pancakes which were the size of a Frisbee. Moist, warm, fluffy, and melt in your mouth yummy, with warm maple syrup and whipped butter. After this experience, I'm looking forward to returning to try their lunch and dinner menu items. read more

We took our 12-person extended family to brunch at Cartwright's Taprock before Christmas and were exceptionally pleased with the service, food and overall experience. The setting is great with beautiful views through their large picture windows. We were greeted pleasantly and promptly shown to our table. Douglas was amazingly attentive taking care of us, intuiting our every need or desire. Some of us hadn't seen each other for years, so we made life more challenging by changing seats throughout the meal - which Douglas and the team seamlessly accommodated. The food was served promptly and was perfect for our needs. While several of us chose one of their wide range of Benedicts, we also had several of other dishes for our diverse tastes. Coffee, water and other drinks were constantly refreshed. We're big fans of Cartwright's Taprock and will continue to be repeat customers when we visit. Highly recommend. read more

Suffice to say that this restaurant is elite, in location, architecture, service and the quality of the food. To summarize, it is located on the banks of the Rogue River and is a very large impressive log structure. Lots of table options, with a grand main dining area that is stunning. The river views are also first rate, be it out on the patio or inside at a window seat. The food and drink quality is excellent. Five stars at the very least. read more

We took a ride up to Grants Pass to visit Taprock which we hadn't been to in a while. We took Dad for Fathers Day. It was a nice day out and we had the dog so we sat on the outside patio. Nice view of the water and bridge. There are beautiful plants and animal statues all around. We were seated right away and given menus. We ordered some cocktails and lunch. We split the Patty Melt and waffle fries. The Patty Melt was very greasy which made the bread fall apart and hard to eat. The fries were cooked perfectly. read more

We went to Tap Rock for Thanksgiving and had an incredible meal! We all ordered prime rib which came with soup or salad, stuffing, mashed potatoes and a dessert. All our prime rib orders were different as far as rare, med rare, well. Each one was done perfectly and were very large servings! Our waitress Randi was amazing, remembering fine details and very attentive. We are thinking of going again next Thanksgiving. It was also a huge turnout. read more

Loved the window view. Very nice atmosphere. All four of us had burgers, it was great ordering the burgers the way we wanted the meat cooked. They were all very good. The unfortunate part is the sides that come with the burgers are very high in carbs. So many people are on low carb diets as diabetic people, a small green salad would be a great option, however it costs extra to get a healthier option. Service was nice. I really enjoyed the smoked chicken wings w/thai chili sauce & my fettuccine w/grilled salmon was super rich /creamy. Ribeye was cooked exactly how my sis requested. I would have enjoyed the clam chowder if they left the corn out. Calamari strips were delicious, they just need to work on getting the batter/breading to stick. I want to like this place so much, but they routinely just miss the mark. Their parking lot looks big enough, but I usually have to circle to find a spot. They have a beautiful riverfront location, so you'll want to dine while it's still light out and you can see the exterior. The interior decor is fitting. The food is above average, but the prices are just average. The service is usually good, but sometimes I feel like maybe our server is having a bad day. They're only getting three stars is because of our experience during our last visit. 1) They were out of at least one entree. 2) Soups and salads came out only about two minutes before our entrees. 3) Four entrees came out, then we had to wait 8+ minutes for the other three entrees. The manager reluctantly came by to see how our meal was, and offered to comp us. We requested to have our beverages comp'd, but instead he offered us each a desert item (which we weren't interested in ordering). So, not a good experience on our last visit. read more

The Taprock was bought out from the original owners and Cartwrights has done a decent job restoring a failing menu to it's original standard. The food is good, but not the best; as is the service. I am hopeful that the menu will continue to improve and that the new owners give it back the same ambiance, food quality, and taste it deserves. Upstairs for a relaxing atmosphere or downstairs in the bar lounge for a fun atmosphere and is dog friendly! Did I mention how fabulous the food is? Where do I start? The appetizers.... Dynamite Roll, wings or salmon sliders. Entree.... steaks, any sandwhich, Prime Rib, fish and chips, caesar salad, or the seafood pasta special they sometimes have. Really enjoyed our recent midday lunch here I had a luncheon special with the turkey cheddar sandwich. Soup was delicious albeit a little thin for me, blue cheese dressing outstanding! my wife had the veggie burger and felt it was worthy. Our only suggestion here would be to find a better ketchup! Offering here is crummy at best. It contains high fructose corn syrup. Cartwright's stands for quality, I have to question where else they're cutting corners?. Picked this restaurant for dinner because we are traveling with a dog. Seated us on the patio which had a beautiful view of the Rogue River at sunset. Our server Dawn was awesome, always checking on us and the food was delicious. Will definitely stop here again when traveling through. Thank you for a wonderful dinner after a long road trip.
