I love it here! There is 40 beer options on tap and the food is amazing, every time I order something new I'm never disappointed

The new location is nice inside with a pretty view and a beautiful bar. Bathrooms are kinda outside, which is a bummer. Soft opening menu is short, but beer selection is not. I got the braised beef Philly, which was pretty good, a little bit sloppy, needed a knife and fork, and really had no business calling itself a Philly. Good, though. The fries were above average. The service I received is what prompted me to write a review. I live in Reno, but came to Petaluma for the weekend. Alli (Allissa) was my server & she was amazing! I'm in the service industry, so I am the toughest critic. She was so patient, friendly, & accommodating! I'm not a beer girl, but she recommended a couple tasty ones (for a non beer lover), and brought me a couple samples. Her personality was infectious, she was attentive, & made great eye contact. She made my experience comfortable, especially because I was dining alone. I ordered the pulled pork mac n cheese, which was too salty, but still good. Alli, keep up the good work! One to start off with the fact I am a picky eater and their fried chicken sandwich was hands down the best chicken sandwich I have ever had in my life! The bread was great, portions were great, chicken was crispy and juicy with tons of flavor and the honey mustard paired perfectly with it. Their garlic fries were crispy and had tons of garlic as well, would definitely recommend. However, we also ordered the Brussel sprouts and we were less than pleased. The brussel sprouts were almost the size of my palm, they weren't cooked through, and had zero flavor. The aoli was also just mayo whipped up with a bit of garlic. Additionally, when we brought up the brussels being undercooked to our waiter, he didn't apologize or offer to fix the situation he just offered to refry our brussel sprouts after they had already been sitting out with us for over 15 minutes. After sending the brussel sprouts back we didn't get a visit from our server again for over 20 minutes. When we finally got our check we noticed our server had added a group rate gratuity to our check. There was only two of us. Overall, the food was good and beer options were great. It is hard to go wrong with a really amazing view of the Petaluma river and a tap beer list of 30 or so great beers. We went on a Wednesday night and the place was PACKED, probably because the weather was beautiful that evening. The service was friendly and very attentive (particularly because of how busy they were). We each had two beers, both of which were interesting and not the "same old, same old" (although they did have Anchor Steam and some of the other staples if you are not wanting to venture out.) The only reason I give four stars instead of five: the food menu is pretty limited (standard pub faire but not a lot of choices) and the seats were not seats but instead benches. I would have preferred a chair with a back (even if it is cheap and durable). Bottom line, go on a nice afternoon or evening, enjoy the beer and the view and have a burger. read more

Location is great. Beers are focused on IPAs, so you might find an Ale or Pilsner, but dont count on a big selection. They used to have good stuff like Staropramen and others, but IPA is the thing so thats what we see. Food is bar food. Nothing special and little choices for a vegan. read more

Taps is my destination spot, and my wife and I have pretty much been there every week since it opened at its new location. The Beer Taps has one of the best selections of beer in the city. IPAs, tripels pilsners, porters, saisons, the list goes one. You should be able to find a beer that you like there unless you prefer Bud or Coors Light. You won't see that tailgating beer here! The brew is constantly changing which is always great because it gives you an opportunity to try new brews. This was perfect for me when I decided to take a month off of IPAs(I know, crazy right?!). I was able to sample a whole bunch of different styled beers prior to my orders which was wonderful. I now have a new appreciation for saisons, porters, stouts, and barrel aged beer. The beer there gets five stars from me. One thing that I've really appreciated about Taps are the Thursdays. Keep an eye on Facebook updates because they'll let you know what the spotlight brewery will be for that night starting at six. It's a great chance to see what each of the breweries around here have to deliver. On one Thursday, Taps had a Double and Triple IPA Night which was sooooo good. Being that it took place during March Madness, my wife and I decided to create our own beer bracket. We sampled nearly every beer and paired them against other IPAs. It turned out to be a really fun night and I'm looking forward to the next one! When are we going to see Firestone Walker there?! The Service The service has always been been excellent at Taps and the servers are always friendly and easy to talk to. If you have a questions, they're able to answer many of them and can offer good recommendations. We've always felt welcomed there. The Food I've had pretty much every meal there. Like the old Taps, you can expect to find some really good buffalo wings. I typically go for the stage two wings because they have pretty good heat to them; the stage three is a bit much for me. I like spicy foods but it was a little too much...everyone in the group I was with had a good laugh while eating them. They're hot!! Another one of my faves is the charcuterie & cheese plate. In my opinion, cheese pairs way better with beer than wine. The plate used to have three cheeses - foggy morning, some other cheese, and a blue cheese. Since they started at the new location, I haven't seen too many blue cheeses and would like to see it back on the plate. Maybe they removed it because it wasn't that popular of a cheese? I love the selection of meats, nuts, and olives that comes along with it. Definitely a must get! There's a good selection of different kinds of burgers and sandwiches; they are a pretty good size and are pretty good. For each of those categories, I have really liked the bison burger and the chicken sandwich. Overall, I'd give the food a three to four star depending on what I'm in the mood for. I know that the menu is still evolving; I'm looking forward to seeing where the food menu heads. I'm not going to lie, I miss the paninis! They were pretty good, but I know that some customers(and staff) were tired of seeing them. They served it prior to the move at the Kentucky location because their old landlord wouldn't fix the exhaust fan in the kitchen. This prevented them from serving the wings, the large variety of fries, and hot dogs. Those were great too and I kinda miss them. The place is pretty packed in the afternoons and during the weekends. I mean, who wouldn't want to hang out downtown, by the river, on a warm evening? It's perfect. Here's a tips though, if it's a breezy day, bring a sweatshirt because it tends to get pretty windy by the river. I loved the small crowds at the old place, so I'm not looking forward to seeing the large ones when the football season starts. Regardless, I'll be there around 10 or 11 to get a good seat at the bar. My wife and I love this place and we hope to see you all there! Cheers! read more

I used to like this place until my last visit with my grandsons last week. I saw 3 employees behind the bar AND the manager having shots while working and ignoring the patrons. The staff are non-at tentative. They don't greet you, they don't say hello, they completely wait on you when they want. PERIOD! I didn't think much about it at the time, however I was extremely miffed after waiting 45 minutes for our ice cold food! The tall, young guy behind the counter who was slurring his words pretty much said "you can take it or leave it". Mind you, this was not a case that involved a shortage of labor...the restaurant was well staffed. This was staff getting shit faced without any regard for their customer. I will never return, I don't care how much the ambiance is attractive. I saw Dempseys come n go, I'm certain Taps isn't too far behind. read more

I am a TAPS loyalist! I've been going since it was on Liberty street, a location that I greatly miss, but being on the water is obviously AWESOME! Beer samples! Taps has the best food of all the beer spots in Petaluma, hands down. Their burgers crush. Their wings crush. (also, I am one of the most heat-tolerant mofo's I've encountered, I have a serious spice addiction, but I have RUINED my mouth on many occasions on their level 3 spice... be careful) Their fries crush. I love their salads, burgers, mac n cheese.... whatever, its all good. The last time I went I was a little bummed at their steak Caesar, which historically I love, it was a grisly fatty chunk of steak, which didn't do it for me.... but I'm still a loyal fan!! read more

I don't drink so this review is just about the food. Jalapeno chicken wings: not sure what if the chicken was anemic or from the cancer ward, but they were the tiniest no meat chicken wings I have ever seen. Tap burger ordered red: overcooked, dry flavorless. Service: worse than the food. the appetizer was brought at the same time as the food. Asked for ketchup and bleu cheese sauce, but it never came. While the food was getting cold, I went up to the bar to get the condiments. Also, water glass was never filled, also went up to the bar to get more water. read more

I had a terrible experience at Taps tonight. The service was so bad and the restaurant is located in a terrible spot overlooking the musty green fishy water with seaweed. And to top it off the food was horrendous. Those shrimp tacos I ate were most definitely from that musty water I was looking at. The shrimp was probably caught from a non fisherman 5 years ago that they just threw in the Taps freezer where all their frozen beans are. This restaurant needs to be investigated. Gordon Ramsey should come check it out and reassess this somewhat shrimp taco that is being sold. Thanks for reading this, I had to get it off my chest. We have been here several times. This review we came here for dinner during the Lighted Boat Parade. They actually got us in pretty quick even though we did not have reservations. The service was very friendly and fast considering how busy they were. The food was very tasty. The garlic fries were very good. I had the Taps burger and it was cooked very well and delicious. My wife had the bacon wedge salad which was very tasty. My only real pet peeve is they need to keep their menu updated. Several items were not available. Overall it was a great experience. I've been here a few times and it's a great spot. Taps is a great name for this place with the variety of different beers they offer. I do not know the exact amount but let's just say if you are an indecisive person when it comes to ordering, you may have an issue! The location is great, located in downtown Petaluma, on the water. The place is mostly outdoor seating and don't worry, they do offer plenty of heating lamps. If there is one downside, some parts get a lot of the sun and customers will wait for shaded seats. The food is great. I get the wings every time and have never been disappointed. It's good for groups and if you enjoy beer this is the perfect spot or if you just want a cool spot to hang with friends it is great for that as well. read more

I met up with two friends for drinks and appetizers. Our waitress was perfect! I wish I got her name. She was perfectly attentive, making sure our water glasses were full, when asked to take our photo she did it with a smile. We ordered 3 appetizers . Buffalo cauliflower, basket of fries and buffalo wings (traditional) everything was very good. Plenty of food ,It could have easily fed another person. I love this place! Especially wing Wednesday. Order salt and pepper wings w a side of #2 hot sauce, a cold beer and it's heaven!!! The severs are always friendly and prompt. Sometimes there are too many loud drinkers on the patio but it doesn't sway my opinion. Usually sit outside but the bar is also a great option. Sports on the tele's so it's a great place to watch a game. Excellent beers on tap and even my picky kids and husband find something they like. A big fan. read more

Last Sunday my friends and I were attending the Petaluma antique fair. We decided to try a local restaurant that had outdoor seating. It was a bit busy but not too busy. We got our menus and gave the server our order within ten or so minutes. We got out drink orders. We noticed that people were being seated and served while our orders hadn't come out, yet. I asked our server what was holding up our order. He said that the kitchen was backed up. We waited over 1 1/2 hours. We NEVER got our order. Needless to say, we walked out. It was never really explained what happened to our order. I'm not sure if there was a manager on duty or not. We never talked to anyone other than our server. He was polite, but clueless. I will never go back there. I will never recommend it. NEVER !!!! If I could give a negative (or minus) star, I would. read more

Giving this place one star solely due to the host Connor. We walked up and waited by the host area, he said give me just a moment and I'll seat you two. Ok great, we thought. Another couple walks up to the host area, basically cutting us and stands right there waiting for him. Connor walks back and greets them sees that they were on the waiting list and seats them right away. A little annoyed that he ignored us and looked right towards the other couple that had obviously cut us, we still patiently waited. He comes back to the host area, sees us again, doesn't say anything, grabs two menus, seemingly looks at us to follow him and starts walking towards inside to seat us. We followed him into the patio and around the side of the restaurant. Then we notice him wave to some other customers and turn around and guided them to THEIR table...he turns and looks at us with confusion on his face like why had we followed him inside! I then realized that he had no intention of seating us at that moment. But him grabbing two menus looking at us in the eyes and walking back towards the tables, really was not the best customer service. We were so frustrated that we ended up leaving due his poor hosting skills. We get it, Saturday night, crowded restaurant. Hello, I am a California native! This is the first time I've ever been to Northern California and the server, Justin, completely resisted my order of alcohol because he thought that I was drunk! If I was seriously intoxicated as this sever, Justin, thought I was, would I be incompetent enough to write this review? Seriously there are other better and welcoming places in the area that you could go to because this place is not worth it! They food isn't even good!!!!! When the server, Justin, asked if everyone was doing okay I said I wanted a beer and he said he didn't like my attitude!! He was really mean and I felt very uncomfortable!! Dude. This place is just unfair. If I owned a bar in Petaluma I'd plant dead rats and spoiled meat in this place because that's the only way that I could compete with it. Taps sits on the riverfront in Petaluma, so even if you're not a beer geek, this is a great place to just sit and pass an evening. But if you are a beer geek, there's awesome stuff inside. Their tap list is extensive and local-heavy, but with smart additions from outside the confines of California. We had already spent the afternoon at Lagunitas, we didn't have the sobriety left to dance all over their menu, but we did manage a flight a piece and it did not disappoint. To boot, the staff was full of really well versed, really friendly beer geeks. They were appropriately chatty without being overbearing or annoying and they knew their beer. We didn't eat anything because we were already full, but their menu looked quite tasty and the guy next to me that ordered wings probably got sick of me staring at his plate. The smelled goooooooooooooooood. The prices for the food and beer looked reasonable as well. If you like good beer, good food, friendly people, and reasonable prices, you should go here. If you don't, you should run really fast into a brick wall because you're a terrible person. read more

This is an "updated" review because I honestly didn't feel as though I've fairly reviewed this place. These are my thoughts on some of the negative reviews I've read through.... 1- This is NOT a 5 star restaurant! No where do they advertise as such! It's a bar! It's a bar with a beautiful views! It's a bar with some "bar" foods! Do NOT come here and then walk out all butt hurt because you didn't receive 5 star food! 2- In my opinion, the owner is a sweetheart! He's hardworking, generous and takes his business very seriously! I don't know the owner personally, I've met him a few times when he was working the bar. 3- My husband and I have probably been here 20 times or so and out of the 20 times we've been here, the staff has ALWAYS been amazing! Customer service is ALWAYS on point! 4- Props to the owner for making this business work! It's not easy! But he's doing it! 5- Last but not least, and I'm not trying to be negative and I know this is a beer joint but I would love to see a better wine list. I personally don't drink beer but my husband does and he loves coming here but I always avoid it because I'm a winey and I honestly am not a huge fan of the wine selection. read more

I have been coming for years to taps, since the old location but sadly I don't think I can keep coming back anymore. It has been on a slow decline for years now and lately has really made a turn so awful it's laughable. For a while now you took a gamble wether the food would be awful or the service. It's always one at least. But the latest trip seals the deal for me, there was a small pool of water at the bottom of my wing basket which can only mean they dropped some and rinsed them off. I used to think they had the best wings in town and that was the main reason I would go, but like the service it has taken a nasty turn for the worse. Goodbye read more

This place has cool seating outside. The Mac and Cheese was basic and the burger was good. All and all an average place. I think it is a little odd though that they only allow you to taste 1 beer, first time for everything I suppose, but it left me a bit off pudding. read more

The food was delayed (server was apologetic and brought us complimentary fries) however that failed to make up for the poor quality of food delivered to our table.
