Chicken tacos and chicken quesadilla were tasty. Shrimp ceviche was ok. Not much flavor. The real Mexican Taqueria!

    Chicken fajitas

This a review I really didn't want to post. I have been coming to Taqueria La Estrella for a few years now; almost exclusively for their tacos, which are tasty indeed. On this particular occasion I popped in on a late Saturday afternoon and there was only one other group in the restaurant being served at that time. I decided to mix things up a little by ordering their chicken fajitas. The waitress who attended me had only myself and the aforementioned other table to serve. They must have been short staffed at the time in anticipation of the evening dinner rush to come and she may have been also doing double duty out front and in the kitchen as well because she was quite scarce on the floor. The fajitas came out sizzling along with another plate that had the accompanying refried beans, rice, guacamole, shredded cheese, sour cream, shredded lettuce, and one tomato slice. The problem was that they must have put that plate under the salamander to melt some cheese they had also placed on the refried beans; making the plate super hot! In the kitchen they then must have placed all those other fixings onto that crazy hot plate. The waitress came out and placed the plate in front of me failing to inform me of how hot the accompanying fixings plate was and I quickly gave my hands a good scorch. Clearly because of her language limitations she could only murmur a barely audible apology; so things were off to a great start. While I waited for the sizzling fajitas and accompanying fixings plate to cool down I assumed the waitress was heading back to the kitchen to give me plate to assemble my fajitas and eat from. Wrong. She never came back. After a while, and out of options, I tried to make the fajitas using that super hot plate as my dish; being very careful not to make contact with any part of that hot plate. The problem was that by the time that plate with the fixings had cooled to a manageable level the shredded cheese had melted into an amorphous blob, the shredded lettuce had been become a soggy warm mush, the sour cream had congealed into loose hot souplike substance making the application of these ingredients into each fajita impossible. I wound up leaving three quarters of the meal untouched and unusable. I then sat around for another ten minutes in the hopes that the waitress would make her appearance on the floor, but to no avail. Out of desperation I left my seat and came to the door of the kitchen and asked if I could pay my bill. When one of the staff came out to prepare my bill I informed her of what had happened. She apologized and offered to take off the price of the Jarritos soda I had also had with the ordering of this meal. Really? As I left, the waitress was at my table cleaning up and took the opportunity to also let her know what happened and of my disappointment. Throughout both encounters I was civil and respectful. Oh well, lesson learned. The fajitas looked great but I couldn't eat them! If you order this dish make sure you clearly ask to have all the cold ingredients placed on a separate plate and that they give you a separate plate to assemble your fajitas and eat from. Will I go back? Yes. I'll chalk it up to catching them on an "off day". Kind of dropped the ball on this one folks.

Shredded chicken burrito. Three street tacos: pastor, carnitas, birria and a margarita!!! Highly recommend!

Our first impression is with mixed reviews. What they did right: shredded chicken burrito; very tasty and substantial! Margarita-I'd return if for nothing else, but to have one of those again. (It wasn't the house margarita. I can't remember the name of it though.) I ordered three different street tacos. The beef taco birria was outstanding! Flavorful and super tender! What missed the mark in a big way: dry, tough, taco carnitas, as well as the taco pastor. Honestly, I wish I would've returned those two and switched for two more of the birria. Everyone has an off day, but today was a three star kind of day.

However averaged out over many visits I would have to say that Chipotle has a consistent product made with quality ingredients. They have a good business model that offers "fast casual" and good food at reasonable price. A brand that can be trusted even with some of the health issues in the past few years. There business and reputation depends on it. Chipotle moves the line. Highly efficient at getting a lot of customers in and out in a short period of time. This location is not different. Busy times are of course lunch 11ish to 2ish and again dinner 4ish to about 630ish. If you really are in a rush, USE THE APP to order food. This location as a dedicated online food prep station. Very good when it comes to allergies. They will wash hands, put on new gloves and get food that hasn't t been on the line to cut down on contamination. It is not 100% but it is as good as they can do. This location seems to be doing enough right because the place is BUSY! There are plenty of options close by so it is a conscious choice by at least most people. Consistent issue areas are: 1)Food temp. Some times food can be on the "warmish" side depending on how many cool toppings you add can cool the warm ingredients. 2) High salt content of food. I really notice it with the Carnitas. Yes I know this isn't a low sodium food choice. I just happened to really notice it sometimes. 3) Dirty dining room. They simply do not have enough people to clean during a rush or don't have enough people who notice or care. Also Customers could take more of a stake in cleaning up after themselves or not eating like Cookie Monster. This can be a challenge due to the food being consumed. A good manager should be able to keep the dining room clean and organized. Take 5 minutes and wipe tables and empty trash. Grab a few napkins and wipe the rice and guacamole off the table. 4) I saw this in another post. If your not offering it Chipotle, Definitely Bring back the Military discount. My personal advice is have reasonable expectations, if you have an issue bring it to the management in a respectful assertive manner. If you don't get satisfaction definitely contact corporate!

Inside, the restaurant exudes cleanliness and hospitality. Two large televisions are strategically placed at each end of the bar, while the decor throughout the establishment is visually captivating. My personal favorite is the "Whisky Business," which features Bourbon, Campari, and Sweet Vermouth, served over a substantial ice cube and is an exceptional libation for whisky enthusiasts. The menu includes delectable small plates such as "bang bang cauliflower" with buffalo sauce, the "wisecracker quesadilla," and the "southwest bowl." Each dish is a culinary delight, and I anticipate future reorders. During our four visits, the bar staff consistently made us feel welcome through their warm smiles and engaging conversations. We eagerly anticipate our next visit to the Rail. It is noteworthy that the RAILLERY participates in the "Toast" loyalty program.
