Taqueria 27 is an upscale hipster taco restaurant with earthy, artsy interiors claiming to source local, sustainable freshest ingredients to make their tacos and charging a premium for all of that. The first time I came here I enjoyed it very much!Everything was perfect that we ordered, full of flavor and awesome service. I mentioned coming here to my sister who was already hesitant but I knew she'd fall in love like I did. I was wrong, our food was very mediocre. She wasn't impressed and neither was I. The food was very bland, nothing exciting to say. Everything was just ok. The service, the food, the flavors. It surprised me how busy this spot gets, imor maybe I've become super picky lately.. I came here with my mom and sister after they raced about it!! We ordered 2 starters, the queso and a shrimp dish. The queso was good flavor but very thick and hard to dip the chips in. The shrimp was good, but on a very stale tortilla. My mom ordered the Cobb Salad and she said it was just ok. Nothing she would come and get again.. I ordered the Chicken tacos and they tasted like lettuce wrapped in the tortilla. No flavor at all. I think I got 2 small chopped pieces of chicken. These where $6.50. Over priced lettuce is what I will call them. I don't understand what they where raving about, but definitely won't be back again. read more

Me and my wife love coming here! They have awesome drinks, guacamole and great tasting tacos! First, we always start with a nice Queso Fundido with added pork it's a must have for us everytime we visit, it's a small appetizer consisting of a bowl of melted cheese and meat you eat with chips, its also placed above a candle for some added heat and flair. The guac is nothing skimp on either, my favorite was a featured G.O.D(Guac of the day) and was a watermelon guacamole, and honestly their menu as a whole has some very creative and tasty options. Lastly the TACOS! Are they your run of the mill $1 tacos you get on a corner that you need 12 of to feel up on? NO! (Also don't fat shame me) These are well made creative tacos that burst in your mouth with flavor my favorites being the Pork Belly P.B.L.T.A and the vegetarian Roasted Mushroom tacos. They can even make your tacos in lettuce if you're avoiding carbs. OH! And don't forget the drinks (DUH!) Tucked into the Fashion Place Mall grounds, I endeavor to see how traditional vs. trendy this taqueria will prove to be. * ATMOSPHERE ------------------------------ Boasting a ceiling-to-floor windowed face which let's a lot of wonderful natural light in, I notice before I get more than 3 steps past the front door that this is a very attractive, modernized take on the taqueria. Large, ceiling lamps, which look as though Ikea peeled the rind off of a wooden orange, suspend plentifully through the place. Framed photographs of all green, desert-like plants decorate the walls. A compelling design feature are the large, trophy-like animal heads on the wall which seem to be made entirely of interlocking, cardboard segments. There's one segment of the cement flooring which has a couple of long cracks, running the length of the building. I might be imaging things at this point but it seems as though it is a deliberately-placed design element, as it adds a neat feel to the place which isn't seen in any other part of the flooring. The seating consists of light wood tables, chairs and faux-leather benches which are very soft. There is a T.V. with "futbol" playing although Spanish music fills the place at a pleasant volume. There is outside seating, under umbrellas should you desire. I'm in love with the aesthetic here! * SERVICE ------------------------------ A single waiter/server mans the floor. I'm seated quickly. The food was also delivered quickly. It's noteworthy that this place seemed understaffed. The employee on the floor wasn't tending to a rush hour lunch but it seems to me that at least one other person should've been out there. After I'm seated, I do see one patron come in for service but after waiting for a space of time, leaves due to the employee being absent from the floor. My server, despite having a rather flat affect, checks all of the other boxes in what makes a serve great. He asks if I've been here before, if I'd like to hear the specials, answers my questions about recommendations, and checks on me 3 times during the meal. * FOOD ------------------------------ Each order of tacos comes with a quantity of 2. You can order 4 but mix-and-match which is what I decide to do. I get 2 "Achiote Marinated Grilled Chicken Breast" (lettuce, salsa crudo, avocado, chipotle crema, crumbled queso) and 2 "Grilled Veggie" (griddled cauliflower, corn, squash, roasted peppers and spinach over rice with chimichurri and toasted pumpkins seeds). I NEVER imagined eating a taco with cauliflower and pumpkins seeds but this was ambrosia. The meal came with black beans and rice, both of which were pleasantly salted ever so slightly. The tacos are packed full of ingredients so you'll need a fork to finish up. I was very full and very happy with my life after eating these. When I was asked if I wanted hot sauce, I said yes and proceeded to see the server bring out three, small, glass bottles which looked liked something you'd see on an ancient, apothecaries shelf. There are mild, medium, and hot varieties which my server explained. I only recall the hottest was made with habaneros. It's taste was good. * EXTRAS -------------------- You can order food via their website or through text message (see pics). RECOMMENDATIONS TO OWNER -------------------- Little I can think of. I can't do zero stars, so one it is! But it's a negative one star. We went into this establishment, understanding that everyplace is busy and that being shorthanded is a common problem. Lack of staffing is no excuse however for completely ignoring the people who come into your establishment, regardless of how busy you are. Simple acknowledgment and a "hey we are super busy, it'll be x minutes ..." or literally anything to say, "hey, we know you are here and we value you." 10 minutes. Not. A. Single. Word. Went for lunch today, it was full but were seated quickly, but our waiter was a bit slow coming- though friendly and nice. We got four different types of tacos to share, the daily special (a smoked chicken taco), carne Asada, the duck taco and pork belly. My favorites were the special and the pork belly, but that may have been because both of those were on flour tortillas, I just didn't really care for the flavor of the corn tortillas. Also the carne Asada was a bit underflavored, or the meat overcooked a bit. Great presentation of the food. Definitely want to come again and try some of the other flavors. The place was not crowded for a weeknight and we were seated promptly. Service was attentive: drinks were kept refilled and we were checked on throughout the meal. The chips and guacamole were good. Love the strawberry guacamole with balsamic agave syrup. I expected more flavor from the Mexican corn guacamole. Then the tacos came. Decent, but not "wow" flavor even for citrus pork carnitas, pork belly tacos, and the FOD (fish of the day) taco. More salt, more spice (not necessarily heat), more something was needed for all three tacos. I put quite a bit of habanero sauce on mine. Another guest complained her enchiladas had too much heat. Mexican is tricky as everyone varies on what flavor profiles and heat levels they prefer. I have been here before for tacos, so I feel confident in rating 3 stars. I have eaten at the Taqueria 27 on Foothill Blvd a couple times and while not exceptionally impressed with it my experiences there were much better than the experience I had at the Fashion Place Mall location. The staff all seemed depressed. We stood at the entrance for a second, no issue with the delay, but then one guy comes up and drearily asks if we're dining in or picking up to-go, we say we're dining in. Then another person comes up and the first guy relays our status, like he was so thankful he was done with all that, and the second guy takes us to a table, but as he sets our menus down he picks them back up and says the table is wet, so he'll find us another table. Then he sits us at another table that is maybe not wet, but still damp. Our server comes over and he's fine, really. But while not eeyore status, he's still super low energy. There is no vibe going on in this place. No energy. The atmosphere is super nothing. Nothing. My wife got FOD (cod, grilled) tacos and the TOD (fried chicken with sriracha and stuff) tacos. I got Pork Belly and Carne Asada tacos. Oh wait, we got the GOD (guack of the day, cucumber, jalapeno, cilantro, lime and stuff) but I don't think we got the special guack, I think we got traditional. Either way, a new Lucky grocery store opened up near me and they make fresh guack and it is easily two steps above what they gave us at the T27. Their hot sauces are, to put it bluntly, nothing special at all. What they call "very hot" is a 3/10 on my hot meter. To me that puts up some red flags as to what I'm about to experience, since they are using Utah grandma calibration for their spiciness levels. So back to the tacos. My wife and I shared so we had 4 different tacos each. I've had the tacos at their Foothill Blvd location and they were flavorful. These tacos were not. I mean maybe I was in a bad mood, and the funeral home energy levels in this place weren't helping, but the tacos were just disappointing. I ate my carne asada taco, the fish taco and had a bite of the fried chicken taco before I was no longer starving (we went in for a late ~2pm lunch and it was the first thing I had eaten all day) so I stopped eating. gave the leftovers to our young-adult live at home kid (three tacos) and she almost ate the majority of two of them. This place attracts a lot of middle-aged women out for a little girl time with their friends and pompous blowhards in suits out for lunch from their nearby injury law and bankruptcy law offices. If you are looking for a business model, this company is not it! Given a busy Christmas Eve, I submitted a $100 online take out order this morning at 10:00 a.m. for 5:00 p.m. pickup from this company. My order was accepted along with payment and I received text reminders and emails regarding pick up time. On every site related to this company and on their message machine it gave typical hours closing at 8:00 p.m. And because this company is part of the Fashion Place Mall, I felt comfortable. I live 20 minutes away and just as I was leaving to pick up the order at 4:38 p.m., Taqueria 27 called to tell me that they just noticed my order, that they closed at 4:00 and that everyone had gone home for the day. He said that he would refund the money. REALLY? Christmas Eve? They were open until 4:00 but he couldn't tell me beforehand that they were closing early and maybe arrange an earlier pickup? Or perhaps let me know so that I could run to the grocery stores before they close and start preparing another meal. Favorite place to get tacos in Utah! The carne asada with the little crispy fries are PERFECTION. Make sure to also get the appetizer sampler. Seriously best corn, guac, and queso you'll ever partake of. And don't even think about not ordering the churro donuts!! They don't mention it, but they are gluten free! And also just the yummiest dessert. The restaurant itself is cool and trendy, so you really feel like you're getting a unique dining experience. So fun! read more

I've not been disappointed by any that I've had so far. Visited this fashion place location and the service was terrible. We first ordered drinks with our server who had no idea what he was talking about when we asked a basic question about getting mezcal in a cocktail and treated us poorly and after we asked for a bit more time for our order he literally didn't come back. About 25 minutes later we had to stop him to be able to take our orders. Luckily I was catching up with a friend so it wasn't as miserable waiting. This location is more spacious than the one in Foothill and the tacos are just as good. I order my usual favorites- duck, angus beef and pork carnitas but wanted to try their fish of the day taco and regretted it soon after I took my first bite. They do tacos here very well but the salmon taco was dry, lacked flavor and tasted old. Everything else was delicious- guacamole is on point as always and the mango they incorporated in the guacamole was fresh and sweet. The pickled onions on the citrus pork carnitas are always tangy and add a nice texture but my favorite will always be the duck tacos! You won't be disappointed with this order so be sure to try it if you haven't already. The spicy melon Rita is sweet and spicy but they sometimes add too much ice so be sure to let them know to go light on the ice. Other than the salmon taco, everything was delicious and the staff is super friendly! So glad that they have a location nearby my residency! I will visit this location again! read more

The place is somewhat nice, but simple. No booths, just tables. They are also part of some initiative to not use straws. So, if you want one, you will get some biodegradable one. I got the Tacos Brent Large. Which was 4 flour tacos with beef in them. Then you are brought a side of cheese and pico. The price for the meal is 13.50, and then 2.50 for a drink. So with tip came to 20. Even. Not really worth 20. I woulsld say more 12. So, there is quite a hike up for moderately good food. If you wanted beans or rice.. or any sides it's more. But we waited. 5 minutes later we still had not even acknowledged by a hostess who was nowhere to be seen. There were 2 other groups ahead of us with plenty of open seating. When we finally spoke with her she said 10 minutes and I'm like what about all the open tables? Apparently they think Monday's are slow and don't staff properly. On a Monday before Christmas Eve with a packed mall and hungry people, who's going to show up? 15 minutes later as more people pile behind us and wait with zero greeting to them either, we finally leave. This location is a joke, and should be avoided at all costs. Whoever runs this location does not give a crap about service or staff properly. If you want to eat this brand of food, go to cottonwood or Lehi. Let this place close and let another business come in that cares. How it's been open this long amazes me. So you could say Taqueria 27 turned me into a taco fan. Their fish of the day (which was Alaskan salmon) and their ground turkey tacos were delicious. None of the meals came out at the same time. 2 of us were done with out tacos before we got our salads and this was before anyone else got their meals. I finally had to ask for the 5th meal or we would have never received it. I asked to speak to a manager and was told that wouldn't change anything. All the favorites are there: the Queso Fundido, the tacos, the du jours (Taco of the Day, Fish of the Day, Green of the Day, Margarita of the Day, Dessert of the Day), the epic Tequila selection, and what may be the best Mole in town. The setup of the new location is reminiscent of the downtown one: A hip, square-room layout with booths all around. I just had my first visit here after hearing from so many people how great it was. I arrived with a group of ladies to enjoy my first Taco Tuesday. All I'd heard was how amazing the guacamole was, so I was planning on digging in! Sadly, as soon as we arrived, we were told they were out of guac. The other ladies were heartbroken, as they'd all had it before, and they had driven over an hour just to come and have it. It seemed impossible that a taco joint would be completely out of guac at all, let alone on a Taco Tuesday. We instead ordered some questions and chips, and I'll be honest that it wasn't great. It had no real flavor to it - just melted cheese which congealed quickly despite the tea light candle set beneath it. We ate it, but it was not impressive. I ordered the fish of the day tacos, which were salmon. Another girl ordered the marinated chicken tacos and someone else ordered vegetarian enchiladas. The feedback was mixed. The veggie enchiladas were well received and seemed to be enjoyed. The marinated chicken tacos were deemed inedible. When others tried them, they agreed that they were just not good. The fish tacos, which three of us ordered were just okay. I enjoyed the slaw on the bottom, as it was tangy and fresh, but the fish was over-fried, and it lacked any real flavor. Funnily enough, despite being out of guac, the marinated chicken tacos were adorned with slices of avocado, which seemed strange. The T27 margarita was pretty darn tasty, though. Service was slow, but the waiter was friendly. Prices seemed really high. My four tacos and margarita we're $26 with tip. All in all, I don't feel like it lived up to the hype, but I would go back sometime to try again. At least if I can be sure guac is on the menu. read more

Well, here we go again... The girlfriend wanted to try yet another Mexican place. Since we had Chile Tepin and were pretty disappointed a while back, she wanted to see what the buzz was about here. Make no mistake- this place isn't your standard Mexican place- it's more like a trendy bistro, but Mexican- which you don't see too much of (though there are a few places now!). First, we ordered the guacamole appetizer. Apparently you can get this in a variety of styles; we opted for the street corn version, which was guac with chile powder and butter coated kernels of corn. We also had a variety of drinks to choose from- I was delighted to see a few beer choices not available anywhere else. I had the smoked jalapeno beer, from a local brewer, and it was delicious, as well as complimentary to the meal itself. We each ordered the trio of tacos, she got chicken and I got carne asada- a good choice. The meats were seasoned perfectly, and very juicy and succulent, and were accompanied by an array of veggies and sauces. The one that sold me on the carne asada was the chimichurri, South American blend of parsley, cilantro, garlic and spices- this complimented the meats so well. For the sides, she got rice and black beans, I got rice and pinto beans. The pinto beans were a bit tangy\spicy, and surprisingly good, while the black beans seemed to be a bit more basic. Dessert was the "donut", essentially cinnamon churros, served with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Warm, sweet, and delicious. I know this place has a stigma attached to it because it's not "authentic", but if you want truly flavorful, delicious Mexican food that isn't the same old hat (or sombrero), then try it! I have 3 stars last review because I felt the food and service were, well, deserving of a three star review, but there have been two visits since where I really see this place changing for the better. Our servers the last two visits have been great and the food has been very solid as well. I can't remember the staff, but he was super excited about some of the tequilas and was able to help me decide on a few. They have a single barrel Casa Nobles that they are pushing which is a very nice and bright reposado with a bit of spice. It's a bit high price wise for a reposado at $14, but worth a shot. While this doesn't reflect negatively in my review it seems that they've changed the way they do enchiladas. I seem to remember a choose your mole kind of thing, but maybe I'm wrong. Either way, we've stuck with the tacos and not been disappointed. The fish tacos lately, especially the Butterfish/Escolar have been very good. read more
