I recently moved to Corpus Christi and really looked forward to finding good mexican food. Found this place on a whim while looking for food around downtown. Randomly picked out of many places on my google maps. When we got there, we were skeptical coz not a signgle signage but OPEN. We went in and interior could use some updating but it didn't bother me honestly. Staff were super friendly. We ordered gorditta and cruchy tacos that came with sides. The FOOD, I must say is GOOD. SO GOOD! Probably best mexican food I had so far. Most of the places I've been to were really salty. And the best part is it's not pricey. Really hit the spot! I'd probably go bo back. read more

Went for a Sunday brunch yesterday. It was delicious as usual. If you appreciate true authenticity in ambiance, El Alteno Taqueria is exactly like walking into most any average cafe deep in Mexico. I had the breakfast porkchop plate (huevos rancheros con chuleta de puerco). My companion had the migas plate. They were both delicious. Our server was very welcoming and quickly brought everything as requested. The only thing that has become disappointing is that almost anything and everything that is requested, like additional condiments, more tortillas, etc. are pricey and added to the bill these days. Where before the pandemic two people could get what we got for under $15 is now well over $25. It's the same most anywhere. read more

Taqueria Alteño is one of those uniquely South Texas, and in turn, "Corpus Christi," taquerias that has defined the city's local restaurant culture over the years. It's a bit of a shabby hole-in-the wall type place, but that's part of what makes it so great. I started coming here more recently based on several high recommendations from coworkers, and I can honestly say I have yet to be disappointed. I will also add that both the service and value of the food for what you pay are what makes this place appealing. I have yet to do brunch here, so I shall be returning soon to give it a go! read more

We are long time customers of this establishment, the people that work here are the nicest, friendliest people you will ever meet, unfortunately i will never step foot in thier restaurant again, approx a year and a half ago i found a small roach in my fried potatoes on a breakfast plate so we stopped going we decided to giv them another chance recently and all was going good until about a week ago 2/10/24 , i ordered a carne guisada taco and when i opened it to put hot salsa in it i took a bite of a piece of meat and saw what i thought was a sliver of onion so i started to pull it out of the meat and found that it was an antenna from a full size roach if you frequent this establishment please look at your food carefully, as for me and my family we will pass on this place .. read more

I love this place. It was my breakfast home 20 years ago when I lived in Corpus and I visit every time I go back. Their food is magical.

foods good at times but the server we had does not understand english very well she got my order totally wrong told her and she says no she put down asada when i clearly asked for guisada. she didn't serve us right away we waited without drinks or our order taken for 30 MINUTES had to go to the front to say something in order to get served. never had problems til she was our server was not happy at all i had to eat something that i DID NOT want just because SHE got my order wrong. & she never refilled my drink til A WHOLE DIFFERENT SERVER came to ask. i loved the place but i think after that i wouldn't come back or at least get served by her. she wears braces just wouldn't recommend her to serve anyone especially if you just speak english. very disappointed. read more

We frequent this spot for breakfast. The prices are excellent with breakfast plates that include tortillas, beans and potatoes with your choice and meat and eggs an style. Definitely the best priced breakfast in town. I always ask for fresh tortillas and the waitresses are happy to bring them out of the back for me. Of course I've eaten lunch and dinner here and the menu is robust and the food is always fresh. The have the standard fountain drinks, along with Mexican bottle colas and Mexican style drinks, along with sweet bread available throughout the day. I do recommend this location! read more

These are some serious tacos. Being a voracious taco beast--I usually consume about three. I ordered three tacos, but dared not try to finish--these suckers are enormous. Two tacos would have been just fine. I ordered a fajita, al pastor and a lengua taco. The real knock out for me was the al pastor. They definitely have their own brand of pastor here. The taco is complicated and tasty the way a good al pastor should be. What makes their tacos really interesting though is the big, fat tortillas. They are the culprits in making it a challenge to eat more than two or one. The tortilla's are so fresh, delicious and comforting though. You will need a long nap when you're done. I really liked the food here, but the place . . . air conditioning doesn't seem to be a concern. It might be a stab at authenticity--El Alteño a taste of the true highlands of Jalisco--but man, I wasn't diggin' it. The tacos are a 3.5 all on their own, perhaps to go is the best solution here. I think I'll search down the road before returning though. read more

I love this place so much! Always make a stop (ok, fine a few stops, lol) when I'm back in CC! I gotta' say, no one does barbacoa like South Texas! Their barbacoa is absolutely delicious as are their beef fajita nachos, chorizo and egg tacos, and limonada! Those are the items I tend to order and they are always delicious. Ordered Babacoa Tacos and when i got home i noticed that there were onions on my tacos. I called the restaurant and spoke to VICTOR to see if they would replace the tacos and he refused. VICTOR was very rude and disrespectful. VICTOR did not care that he got my order wrong. If your allergic to onions please make sure you check your food before you leave the drive thru. read more

Just a warning. DO NOT get the Tea. Get a can drink or bottled drink. On Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2021, I received my order and unsweet tea. I always take my yeti and poured it in. Oh my gosh, there was food in it, which led me to believe they were recycling the tea from peoples tables... Sounds awful, but maybe a possibility. How else would a small piece of chewed up meat get in there? I called the restaurant and they apologized so I went by on Wednesday. Okay, first time a mistake..., but a SECOND TIME! You guessed it. I decided to pull it out (because it may be lemon), well, THIS TIME IT WAS EGGS in there. I called manager and explained. They said they don't recycle tea and cups are clean and did not know why I found it like that. Well, I went by today, Thursday, Aug. 26th and Ana refused to give me a drink at no charge to replace the tea that had eggs in it. She said the manager was not in and for me to call and ask for the manager. She absolutely would not give me HIS name. Apparently, no one was in charge at the restaurant. BEWARE PEOPLE! Absolutely no need for me to lie about this. I now need to call and report them to the Health Department!!! read more

The Alteno's on Ayers have the best nachos in town . Each time I am in Corpus Christi I have to eat my Alten Natcho's.
