The food is pretty good for it being right outside of my neighborhood and the drinks are strong which is a big plus. I only really get the drinks, fajitas or flautas because I'm not a fan of the enchiladas here. Service is great when you sit inside and the food comes out pretty quick. There are never issues when I eat inside. The only issue is placing orders on the phone for pick up. I've done it 3-4 times and all of those times they either missed something or heard wrong. It's inconvenient when you are trying to order during your lunch break and pick up the food. They are quick to hang up after you tell them what you want and i've had to call back before to confirm what I ordered to make sure they get it right. To go orders come with chips and salsa which is nice. Just make sure to make them repeat your order after ordering. read more

The first thing I noticed was the line out the door. It must be good! The margaritas were strong and delicious , I added a Tahin rim. Yum. We highly recommend the Fried avocados! Let me start by saying the service is awesome and it used to be our favorite neighborhood restaurant and bar. The food is still reasonably priced but the drinks are crazy expensive now! A large Ranch Water is 21 dollars!! When we have so many Mexican restaurants to choose from in this area and I can get a good drink for 12 dollars at La Brisa, I will just have to choose other places. He was walking around checking out tables and the only table he stopped at was full of high school girls in their softball uniforms. The hostesses were very young. They text when a reservation is ready and when my party arrived at the hostess desk within minutes of the text, our table was given away. They were unapologetic and projected that I was rude when it was clearly very adolescent behaviors on their part. The manager was accommodating and seated my party immediately. I do not believe anything will change or be adjusted. We won't return because management/owner would have to address hostess behaviors and overall response to the public. Bland and flavorless! Definitely not a great tasting restaurant. We ordered a variety of items, chicken tacos, beef tacos, tamale, rice, beans, tostados... all of it was so terribly bland. It was like they went out of there way to make it taste like mush. The margarita was packed with ice and little amount of actual drink. The salsa was warm (temp wise not spice) which I hate but for some reason that's a thing here in Texas. The chicken tasted like the put chicken breasts in a pressure cooker with water and then strait into the taco without any seasoning. The tortilla chips didn't even have a trace amount of salt on them. All in all it was $60 down the drain, had to come home to eat some dinner afterwards. Presentation was nice though. PS. Been coming here for years before and after we moved League City. Made it a once in a week place since we bought a house right up the street. Usually order a good meal and drinks. The drinks we usually order are around the $10 dollar mark. We order one round before the food was delivered and one round after. When we got our bill the price was double what we had always asked for. Most of the time our bill is always around the $50 mark. Tonight it was $126.00, at $21.90 each per the 4. We brought it to the manager's attention which was no help and he appeared not to care that we were long time customers. The bill was paid and he was advised that we would never patronize his establishment ever again, even though we lived just right up the road. So much for keeping customers on a one time sale. Was charged $2 over menu price listed online for a large queso. When picking up my food the total seemed too high for 2 kids meals and a large queso, so I asked and was told price is higher for a "to go queso"!!! Never heard of a to go queso being higher price at any they Mexican restaurant in my life! Should be told on the phone. I wasn't ordering from Uber eats or another food service carrier, which I could see the price being higher than listed on the Mr. Sombrero menu. I called and picked up myself. I was hesitant to try this place because of the low ratings, but I'm so thankful I finally did. I first ordered delivery through Door Dash. It was so good that I had to try it in person. I have now been here 5 times. I am very picky about my Carne Guisada which is similar to a pot roast. The meat was perfectly tender and had a lot of flavor. Loved it. Definitely recommend the Carne Guisada if you are a seeker of good carne! I have never been a fan of cooked advocado, but I tried the Advocado Relleno...and I have been transformed. The one stuffed with beef fajita is delicious! I can't stop ordering it! They take a fresh advocado and stuff it with beef fajita, then the pack a layer of white cheese around the advocado to hold it together, then it's rolled in panko breadcrumbs. Then it's deep fried. If you are dining in and you like cheese, beef, and advocado...then give this a try. I had to cut it with a knife because the outside is perfectly crunchy, and then the white cheese oozed out and then I couldn't get it in my mouth quick enough. Then I was full about halfway through, so I ate the rest for lunch the next day. Held up pretty well, but nothing beats the fresh experience. My fiance loves the enchiladas. First tried the spinach enchiladas, and is now hooked on the red sauce over they use on the regular cheese enchiladas. Been here 5 times now, and the food is very consistent so I had to stop and write a review. This place does not deserve anything below a 4. I am not a fan of their salsa. It's a Ranchero style salsa and it is served warm. I like that style with my Migas, but not just to dip on chips. Their chips are perfect so I order a queso and gobble up some chips and queso instead of salsa, more fat but I'm also eating a deep fried queso smoother advocado so don't think it matters much! My family and I have been coming here for years, back when it was Sr. Sombrero. A small little place, only a few tables, with great food and margaritas. Now they've grown into at least twice the size. Still good food but, to be honest, I liked them and the food better before the expansion. For me, even the food is not quite as good as it once was. Queso flameado vegetable with pico is one of our favorites. We fight over the crispy cheese crust at the bottom of the hot iron skillet. Chips and salsas are very good. The chips are a little thicker than I like, the red salsa is very good while the green is great. Very good beans, rice, enchiladas, tamales, fajitas. Let's face it, if a Mexican restaurant doesn't have good basic Mexican food, why bother. There is way too many to choose from. read more

This is the second location opening for this family owned restaurant! It's owned by 4 brothers that work really hard, take pride in their hard work & make sure everyone feels like family. This location needed a good mexican restaurant because we all know that Luna's sucks. They make the flour tortillas fresh in house every morning,you can taste the love! You can always order the corn ones but those are store bought. The decor is beautiful,new & airy. The staff is also new & getting up to speed, they have brought in a few guys from the first location to help out until the employees are more confident. It does get loud when it's busy but if you go on the off hours, it's quiet & you can actually hear the music playing in the background. They ususally have sports playing on the TV screens if you don't want to miss your game. Happy hour margaritas are only 3.75$ a piece! They have a different drink special every few days too so you can try a blood orange or watermelon margarita. Every meal starts off with complimetary chips & a size of warm salsa, it's really delightful. The chips taste much better & look different at the first location. I'm a huge fan of the chile con queso blanco,it's authentic queso cheese with serrano peppers served with jalapeno chili slices of course. I'm never going back to regular orange queso! The small is enough for 2 people when you get a meal. The other awesome optiond to go with your chips is a side of the gaucamole salad, it's basically mashed up fresh avocado with garlic powder & lemon juice. Simple to the point & makes you wish there was more! Let me start by saying that I usually get chicken as my meat, I always upgrade to the Al Carbon/chicken fajita meat option, I just loved the taste & texture of it better than regular chicken but that's just personal preference! My 2 favorite dishes are the enchiladas al carbon & tacos bonitos. It's just feel good food for me. The fajitas are perfectly cooked & mouthwatering, I'm not sure if there's anything worse than overcooked meat but they are always great here.The stuffed avocadoes are also good option. Here are a few other things that I've enjoyed, the Quesadilla is surprisingly delicious. It's the perfect combination of cheese,meat & fresh flour tortillas. My boyfriend loves the carnitas & tamales. Whenever he's just tagging along with me & not very hungry, he gets the mexican guacamole! I've heard amazing reviews on the tortas so I'll have to try them at some point. They serve breakfast burritos on the weekend until noon, I haven't been there to try it yet. Not sure if they still serve dessert or not but they were good! The prices are very decent & I'm happy with the portion sizes. Different person sits you down, takes drinks, takes food, etc. No refills offered other than one time on chips. Brought the check without checking if we wanted dessert or anything else (took it as a sign that it we weren't meant to have dessert). The fact that my wife's normal size margarita was $6 has me even more confused as how the heck they justify asking $20 for it when the "Jumbo" was, in no way 3-4 times the volume/3-4 times the cost. Again, it serves me right for not asking first, but that's just ridiculous for that level of product. Sorry, Sombreros - you lost 4 stars from me for that.... Honestly there are plenty of Mexican restaurants in the area that is important they do things well to set themselves apart from the others. When we told friends that we wanted to check out this place because I had never been there, they were excited because they used to eat at another location and really enjoyed it. Overall, we had a pleasant time here and would come back again. Food was tasty, service was good, and the price was right. The menu was diverse enough that we all could find something that we liked. Our only warning: be prepared if they find out it's your birthday; they like everyone in the restaurant to know! We had a good time. Go check it out. read more
