This is a super casual spot where you order at the counter and then grab a seat while they bring out your food. Nothing fancy, but it's a solid place for a quick taco run. Vibes and service were both around a 7/10. The ribeye prime taco was my least favorite. I wasn't a fan of either the texture or flavor. 4/10. The pork belly taco was delicious. It had a unique sweetness I hadn't tasted before, and the crispy pork belly added great texture. 8/10. The taco vaquero was interesting. I liked the crispy chicken skin, but the flavor wasn't the best. 6/10. The California burrito was easily the star of the meal and the best burrito I've had. The shoestring fries took it to another level and made every bite so good. 9/10. The pineapple passion fruit agua fresca was refreshing, and I also loved the complimentary tortilla chips and sauce. Overall, a great casual taco spot that's worth checking out if you're in Fulton Market.

Solid taco spot in Fulton market. The specialty tacos tend to be better than the regular menu tacos. I ordered the pork belly taco (specialty) and it was delicious. I had the Al pastor taco as well and it was just okay, not my favorite. I had the pineapple passion fruit agua fresca and it was good, not too sugary. My friends ordered desserts and loved them! On Wednesdays they have crunch wrap specials and I hope they have a gluten free Crunchwrap soon!

Chorizo, Al Pastor and Skirt Steak tacos All were delicious!! Meat was tender and not over cooked. Juicy and flavorful. Service was quick, you order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. Music was loud but didn't bother us. Will definitely be back to try more items

I'm glad they reopened, because despite the hype, I missed out on them before they closed their previous location. When I heard they were going to open up again, I knew I wasn't going to miss out again. We arrived here for an early Sunday lunch. The place was still empty, not sure how busy they get, but let's just say we got in before the crowd. I ordered their Al Pastor Taco and their Skirt Steak Taco. These tacos definitely aren't cheap. The al pastor was $5 and the skirt steak was $7. Street tacos used to be around $2-$3 per taco. So when they're charging $7 for one damn taco, it better but one of the best tacos you've ever had. And that's exactly what these mfers delivered. A near perfect taco worth every penny. The skirt steak was perfectly marinated and perfectly cooked. It was so tender and juicy and came with avocado mousse and a chimichurri sauce that just complemented every bite so perfectly. I will definitely be returning very sook for this taco. The al pastor was also good but came with pineapple and the al pastor was flavorful, but I'm coming back for that skirt steak taco.

I have been getting tacos for years and thought I had already found "the best." Turns out I was wrong. I stopped by Taqueria Chingón in Fulton Market, grabbed a seat outside, and ordered two steak tacos with just cilantro and onions because that's how a proper taco should come. No distractions. No unnecessary extras. Just taco. When I tell you those tacos changed my mood instantly, I'm not exaggerating. The steak was perfectly seasoned, juicy, and packed with flavor. I don't know who's back there cooking, but they deserve a raise and maybe a hug. The tacos were so good that I came back the very next day. Not next week. Not later that month. The next day. That's how serious this got. I also happened to catch happy hour, which made the experience even better because half priced drinks and amazing tacos are a dangerous combination for my wallet and my self control. The staff was awesome. Special shoutout to the hostess who was there both times I visited. She was super friendly, welcoming, and just had great energy. You can tell when someone actually enjoys their job, and it makes a difference. The restaurant is clean, organized, and has a great vibe. Even the bathrooms were spotless, which is always a green flag. If you're in Fulton Market and craving tacos, go here. Just don't blame me when you start thinking about those tacos at random times during the day. I'm still thinking about them.

Taqueria Chingon is about as amazing as it is expensive. I had the absolute pleasure of trying the Al Pastor, Gobernador Shrimp, and Duck Carnitas. Overarching themes were of unique, well-thought-out combinations, freshly cooked proteins that were neither skimped on, nor from a hotel pan, and all ingredients in balance. Duck Carnitas - Out-of-this-world fantastic. The duck was tender and just the right amount of roasty. The veggies gave the perfect amount of freshness and brightness. Tying everything together was a delectable, gently sweet and savory sauce. I have a close friend who loves tacos, but doesn't eat any cute animals - and it's a real shame. Gobernador Shrimp - I was initially on the fence about ordering this. I saw in the photos what looked like a cigar of... something - no cause for alarm, it is just grilled cheese. The savory and oily notes of the cheese and a hearty amount of shrimp, combined with a rich, dark, and smoky salsa negra, some avocado, and some veg for earthiness. Al Pastor - This was slightly less spectacular than its colleagues. I loved the roasty, Maillard notes of the pork, and appreciate that pork is almost impossible to get moist and tender. That said, it did come off as a hair on the dry side. It's not all doom and gloom though, the pineapple added tropical brightness and sweetness, with the onion some fresh crunch! Salvation was found in the provided sauces and lime. A small hit of this and that, and the taco is saved without reinvesting it into something new. Now, for the prices: My tacos cost $9, $8, and $6, respectively. For tacos, there is no denying that is expensive, and arguably overpriced. Part of this goes to the area, Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand, and the state of the world [gestures vaguely and wildly at everything]. However, in return one gets tacos that are well assembled, unique, interesting, and with proteins that are made to order, instead of in bulk and kept warm. When it comes to their vibe, it was bright and modern, with stone and wood notes. There is also a large, colorful, inviting mural on the wall. My quibble is with the music - considering there were three patrons in the restaurant including myself, it was louder than it needed to be. As for the service, the food came out in a reasonable time considering the freshness of the ingredients. The staff I ordered with was friendly, too. Final verdict: Taco cravings come in different flavors (pun intended). Sometimes, Taco Bell gets the job done, other times, it's the mom-and-pop-shop down the street for something a little more elevated. However, when one is craving something mind-blowing and willing to spend a few extra dollars, Taqueria Chingon is the place to go.

Looking for a New Mexican spot by me and this is fantastic! Very quick, placed my order and picked it up within 15 minutes. Very cute place too! Meant for a quick bite. It is on the pricier side but it is worth it. I got a passion fruit mango fresca to drink and this was sooo refreshing and full of flavor. I am obsessed with this drink. We started with chips and queso. The chips are on the smaller portion side. For two people I would recommend getting 2 orders of chips! I loved the queso. It is different than the average queso, a little on the smokier side. To eat I got the Cali burrito and this is amazing. One of my favorites I have tried in the city. And the portion size is great!!

Taqueria Chingon offering Michelin recognized tacos. A fairly small place but they offer unique and different flavors. You get one taco per order and recommend 3-4 if you are really hungry. The tacos are really delicious and have great flavor. Definitely a must go to while in Chicago you won't get tacos like this anywhere else.

This place is crazy overpriced. Even for Fulton Market. The food is good quality and the people working here are nice. The steak is good quality. A side of rice is $5 here. Something that costs pennies to make. Even with it being Fulton Market with premium rent and staffing to pay, the pricing in this restaurants is very hard to justify eating here. They are not planning to move volume at these prices. Not sure why this place would ever become packed at lunch or dinner service the way Tacombi is a couple blocks over. Perhaps it doesn't even make economic sense to have a street taco style place on a street like this. You could open something like this on Taylor Street and lower the prices by 30% and the. It would make sense. I guess that why Jarabe exists.

One taco is one order I recommend getting between 2-3 tacos. The squash and the special barbabacoa was really good and flavorful. Cool decor, order at the counter and they bring it out to you.

I'm going with 3.5. Ambiance was good. A little loud. As far as tacos Gobernador was pretty good. Skirt steak was good and chorizo was good. Mushroom al pastor was ok. Things were a tad salty but overall it was good. Hit the spot

I was visiting Chicago and was recommended to try this place by a local. It's right in Fulton market and not too far from the subway stop. I walked in and the staff was super helpful in answering my questions about the menu. I got the following: Carne Asada - my go to steak taco Duck Carnitas - Fresh Duck and so flavorful. I want another already. Campechano - mix of carne asada and chorizo (pork). It was a lot of protein. Shrimp Gobernator: deep fried battered shrimp. Not my favorite. Chingon & Famous: mexcal and aperol fruity drink. The place was clean and not noisy at all. They had inside and outside tables with a sauce station for you to customize your tacos with. The tacos were $4-$7 each and very tasty & flavorful. I'll definitely be back!

I went to the bucktown location a few times before it closed and this was my first time at the newly opened west loop location! Tacos were great as usual. I got the duck carnitas and governador, which was a bit different than i remembered. On Tuesdays they have a deal of 2 tacos, rice and beans, a drink, and churros for about $21 which was a great deal! The beans/ rice was a small portion, but the churros were huge and very airy and fresh. I just wish they served them with chocolate instead of icing. Overall still great, I liked the ambiance and uniqueness of the previous location better, but glad they still have a spot!

Evelyn greeted us right away and placed my order. I asked for spicy salsa so she recommended the gobernador salsa which was a green spicy salsa made with poblanos. Evelyn was so sweet! She gave my puppy a treat and also brought out a bowl of water for him while we waited for the food. The inside of the restaurant was really cute and colorful and they had a separate bar area for drinks. I decided to order a spicy michelada with Pacifico beer while waiting. The bartender was super nice and made my drink quickly. It was the perfect amount of spice and was so refreshing! My burrito came out quick for how packed the inside of the restaurant was. The burrito was a good size and was so fresh and tasty! The gobernador salsa was delicious. I can't wait to go back and try something different and this time dine in.

I had the Mexican street corn to start and then the lunch special with two tacos, rice, and beans. I got the carne asada and crispy fish taco. The carne asada is simple with just steak and onions, but so good! The sauce and the cabbage on the crispy fish taco is really good too. I usually don't love a corn tortilla, but these tacos were so flavorful that the corn tortilla was perfect.I also had the watermelon agua fresca, and it was refreshing and not too sweet. One of the staff members, Chris, was such a vibe. He greeted us friendly and professional as soon as we walked and came over later to check on us, and chatted with me and my aunt. Our waitress was amazing too, and several other staff members stopped by to check on us throughout our meal. Exceptional service like this can be hard to find so I really appreciated it. For me, it's a 5 out of 5 because the food and the service are equally great. I highly recommend! I forgot to take pictures but take my word for it lol.

I ordered the Paloma, and my husband got the Michelada, both super refreshing and made well. For food, I ordered the El Gringo with rice and salad. I definitely wish I had swapped the salad for beans, because my husband got both rice and beans, and I ended up finishing my rice and helping with his too lol. Highly recommend this dish, just go for the beans instead of the salad! My husband also ordered three tacos: Al Pastor, Chorizo, and Carne Asada, all of which were really good. One of the fun touches is that they have QR codes at the table to leave a Google review, and if you do, you get to spin a prize wheel. Of course I had to try it, and it made the whole experience even more fun. I ended up winning a free double shot!
