We live near by and have eaten here dozens of times over the years. Don't know how I have failed to do a review. But Taqueria Corona is a neighborhood staple. Their menu has changed very very little over the years, which is just fine. Their food is incredibly consistent and delicious. Never had a bad meal here. Love their chips (though we try to avoid them given the propensity to addiction), their chicken plate which is deliciously marinated and grilled, their black bean soup, their bean and cheese burritos, their beef taquitos, and especially their fried fish taco which is the best fish taco in town IMO. It ain't fancy, they don't do daily or creative specials. They just deliver excellent, fresh, consistent and authentic Salvadoran/Mexican food day after day. read more

You can always tell a lot first by the chips and salsa that you have to pay for and the chips are from a bag and the salsa is flavorless pico. The tortillas are not handmade, the rice and beans are terrible, the queso "sauce" is from a can, and we asked for a spicier salsa, which was also from a can, so they suggested their homemade hot sauce, which was a funky science experiment at best, and the tacos burrito, etc. were absolute garbage, passionless waste of calories. Have some shame in what you're serving and charging, we were starving so we ate the best we could and tried to give it a chance but for three people our bill was over $105 which is criminal. The meals were then seen being warmed up on a griddle. I got up twice to ask for extra things because we had a spill and I wiped it up myself with the 2 napkins I was given. A new awning and a fresh paint job dresses up this 30+ year old "Mexican" neighborhood restaurant. This "old stand by" remains an excellent choice for "fresh mex" in what is now a crowded field of "Mexican" choices that have opened uptown in the last decade. A wide selection of tacos is on the menu, my favorites, carne asada and sautéed shrimp. The entrees are equally good with carne asada, shrimp flautas , or enchilada riviera as personal favorites. Margaritas are delicious made from quality tequila and fresh juices, lacking the pretentiousness/high price of so called artisanal tequila/mezcals found in some other newer dining choices. Staff is courteous and efficient, line cooks are visible to dining patrons, and the owner is usually in supervisory attendance making sure everyone has an excellent meal. read more

This is my absolutely favorite place for Mexican in NOLA. Period. Growing up I'd always order the Numbero Uno. You get a burritto, taco, flaunta (the most delicious thing you've ever consumed, cheesey fried goodness) AND rice and beans. It's enough for two meals, easy. The flaunta, I've never had anything like it anywhere else. Beef or Shrimp with cheese, deep fried and topped with a dolop of sour cream and gucaomole. Maybe kinda like a small chimmichanga. And the rice and beans, best in the city, hands down. That's what my old favorite was, my new favorite? The leunga tacos! Beef tongue. It's so flavorful and absolutely perfectly cooked. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. Also, the hot sauces! The green is rather mild, the red is hot, and the black is something else all together. I had lunch here today for the first time in years, and I was a little underwhelmed. First off, it took forever to find s parking spot, and it was a rainy Thursday afternoon! Really? I was hangry to begin with, so tack on an additional 10 minutes of driving around with my mom and tween daughter in the car giving me driving directions and parking suggestions, and you have a live bomb in the driver's seat. Once we were greeted and seated the waiter took our order and our food came not too long after. Luckily they weren't very busy, and I wasn't forced to chew off my own arm. I ordered a fish taco, and an order of beans and rice. Their fish taco - at any of their locations - is my favorite taco IN THE WORLD. I was pretty disappointed today. The crust was mushy!!!!!! Aaaagh!!! After all of that driving around, listening to my mom and daughter tell me how to drive, just knowing that when my fish taco arrived it would all have been worth it, and all would be right with the world. NOT. Yep, the crust was mushy. Where was the crunchy, crispy goodness that was created to cradle the perfectly fried fish inside? Where???? As I said earlier, I was hangry - so I ate it. The tartar sauce was still amazingly tangy and delicious, and the cabbage was fresh and crunchy. It filled me up and I felt human again, but I just felt a little cheated. Just a tiny bit. A group of four of us stopped in on a Friday night after escaping a family dinner. I'm super thankful that Taqueria Corona wasn't packed and we were seated immediately. Unfortunately the service here is pretty horrendous. Our server didn't come back often and it took probably 15/20 to order and another 20 minutes before we got our food. The wait wouldn't have been long if we had chips and salsa but due to not getting any I can only assume there's a charge. We ordered almost every type of taco avalible. The tacos were great and definitely served as if you're in Mexico- sorry gringos there's no cheese or sour cream on top. We also ordered a vegetarian California burrito. I would've loved for more of an even amount of ingredients throughout the burrito. One side was mostly beans while the side we didn't finish had the rice. Overall I'm torn on if I would come back. The food was decent but the service was bad. As long as you have plenty of time and aren't in a rush this may be a good spot for you. read more

Ok, I took off a star because like everyone says you have to pay for chips and salsa which is silly (which by the way I got the chips and FUNdido-basically queso and it was delicious!). Plus parking is a pain in the butt since it's street parking and right next to another restaurant. Don't laugh but I forget about coming here because it's such a pain trying to find a parking space. Anywho, like my tip said I had the chips and FUNdido dip, fish taco, shrimp taco, and a side order of beans and rice. The chips and FUNdido dip were delicious! I love me some queso! Now I used to live in L.A. so I've been to quite a few Mexican joints, and I quite enjoyed their fish taco! In fact, I liked it more than my shrimp taco! Surprising enough, the first time I had a fish taco was back in L.A. But I digress. The beans and rice were fine, not memorable. We had great service although I can't remember the waiter's name. Service was very good, both waitresses checked on me to verify how I liked my food. really loved the ribeye shaved tacos my only regret and this is on me that I did not order them on corn tortillas I ordered it on flour tortillas. Welp, I'm pretty sure I either have food poisoning or just a horrible reaction to cheap cheese. Since I can't tell which it is, I am going to stick with three stars. This restaurant is located in a busy area of Uptown, New Orleans, and even though you can find street parking, it does take some effort. While this is a pretty fashionable area of town, the streets are horrible and narrow. Even if you find parking, you may have lingering fears of someone taking off your mirror. The restaurant has very cheery decor, and I really liked the "shrine" behind the counter featuring the Chinese lucky cat, Blessed Mother, and Santa Muerte. I guess they wanted to have all their bases covered. Very New Orleans. The decor is where the fun stops. The wait staff if polite but not well trained or organized. It took us 30 minutes to get our food, and the restaurant wasn't even half full. The waitress initially brought us another table's food, and the waiter waited until my husband had to take a business call to take our order. The food was very bland. My food was nothing but cheese and a little shrimp. My husband's tacos were just meat. That's it. I really wouldn't recommend this place. read more

This is one of those places that started off with a bad impression and we were never friends after that. I worked next door to the METAIRIE location and tried it a couple times but hated it. I honestly never gave the uptown location a shot, and maybe there's a difference? During quarantine, I've reached out to try a bunch of new places and I'm glad I did! I love fish tacos (maybe it's the CA in me)... ok well I just love tacos in general but a good fish taco is hard to come by. +1. First, I appreciate their taco menu selection. I need variety in my life. Most places offer the basics or a selection of 3 meats. This place has everything you could want! +1/-1. Fish taco discussion can be like a political debate. Ok maybe I'm a fish taco snob?? Their fish tacos are not made with tilapia or even catfish, the menu says red drum. But, the fish has a thick beer batter type coating that left me tasting all batter and no fish. The fish tacos aren't the best here, but their other options are delicious! $2.75 for a cheese taco sums up my opinion of this place. Taqueria Corona has been around since pre-katrina, and I remember all of my private school girl friends raving about it when we were kids, but after living on the Westbank it leaves a lot to be desired. I agree with the previous statement on here that referred to it as "Taqueria Bell Corona" because it really came off as Americanized Mexican food, which has a time and place, but when I was in craving good authentic Mexican food it missed the mark. It's also overpriced, which comes with the Magazine St. territory. We both ordered the numero uno dinner entree which is one chicken soft taco, a chicken burrito, and beef, bean and cheese flauta topped with guacamole and sour cream. It also came with refried black beans and rice. It was a lot of food, but for over $10 couldn't really justify it. The food was good and the taco was good, but I was hoping for homemade corn tortillas and it tasted like grocery store flour tortillas. They were large tacos, but I still can't justify $4 for a single taco (unless you're Rum House & elaborate), when I can get amazing $1 tacos on the westbank with yummy homemade fresh grilled corn tortillas. Especially when I also get free chips and salsa with those places when you have to buy one batch for $3.50 here. Service was fast and refilled water when we needed it, but it was SUPER awkward when the waiter brought the check and kept shoving it at my husband even when I reached my hand out to take it from him. Even after he realized I put MY card down and paid, the waiter AGAIN shoved the check/receipt at my husband when he brought it back for the signature, and ended up sticking it on the table rather than handing it to me... I've been a customer since Taqueria's opening days... It's been over 30 years and I absolutely love the food and the folks that run and work in the place! The menu has changed very little over the years. The quality of the food and preparations are excellent. The pico de gallo is rich in flavor... The guacamole is delicious ... You must have the fried shrimp flauta which is crispy and melted cheese deliciousness and creama on top... There is no better fish taco in the city period... Cebolittas are awesome Taco salads are so flavorful and the crispy bowls are the bomb... Enchiladas with the hot melted cheese are incredible.... This restaurant has 20 + years operating on Magazine Street and is consistent each and every time we go here which now must be 100+ times over the last 19 The Carne Asada Tacos are wonderful, the Ribeye Quesadilla, and Fish Tacos are ordered by my family almost every meal. Numero Tres can feed a small army. The Cebolittas are a great appetizer. They have a nice Sunday brunch with tasty Bloody Mary's and Mimosas. This place is by far one of the best Mexican restaurants in the city I've been to. Per the review before mine, it is Americanized Mexican, but I can promise you you're not going to find real Mexican food anywhere in NOLA. I got the chicken enchilada and chicken taco a la charge, plus their pico and queso fresco. The chicken seemed to be higher quality grilled chicken rather than just cheap shredded chicken. The queso was pretty tasty and so was the pico! Not puréed salsa but rather the whole pieces of tomato, yum. I will definitely be back! read more

What a fun place. Friendly, casual, festive (brightly painted, multi colored lights and muchas piñatas), good for groups (read: louuuuud!), Taqueria Corona is kind of just what you'd expect it should be and when you're looking to swig back a couple of margaritas, hot, salty chips and queso, you'd do well to do so here. Make sure you ask for the trio of hot sauces, too. I loved the chili paste/oil. So tasty when mixed in with the queso. Ditto for gut bombing burritos. The emphasis is on meaty things here from the usual (chicken, beef, fish) to the more adventurous (tongue, anyone?) It would be grand if they could add a spinach/mushroom option to the list, rather than the yawnsville "no meat" option (that is, just beans, rice, cheese, lettuce, tomato and guac, which inside the burrito becomes a bit of a bland, indistinguishable mush). As such, I will return for chips and drinks and forgo the "real food". That doesn't mean you should listen to me, as this probably only applies to vegetarians. Among the more unique Mexican places in the region, Taqueria Corona is a long tradition in our family. Back around 2000 when my third grader decided all he wanted for dinner were Taqueria Corona plain chicken tacos, I contributed greatly to the revenue stream of this business. The inevitable burn-out came along after a few months, and we gave up our regular gig on the stools at the corner of the bar. Jump forward to 2014. The menu is almost the same except for the prices. In the decade-plus interim since our several-times-a-week run, the prices sometimes seemed too high for what you got set in front of you. Times have caught up and now the prices are reasonable. (I hesitate to say this, as I don't want to cue a price hike.) The grilled meats and things are outstanding, charred just enough to remind you they're grilled, but still moist and delicious. The former third grader now comes in from the cold North looking for his new favorites, the carne asada tacos consisting of steak strips with cebollita (grilled onion) and the fish taco, a nice sized chunk of fried fish with finely shredded cabbage and a Thousand Island style sauce (i.e. a no-surprises fish taco, but well executed). The "things" beyond meat are pretty much limited to the cebollitas (grilled green onions). These are hit or miss for most people. The former third-grader and I like them, but everyone else considers them too greasy. To the current first-grader in our party, these flaccid, limp, cooked green onions are the antithesis of "food". The burritos are good, though not the signature item of food art that they have become at Juan's. i like the bean burrito as a side dish, with one of the trio outstanding salsas brought upon request. The black tar salsa (my name, not theirs) is a mix of dark charred peppers and chili oil with a distinctive cooked flavor. It's among the more unique tastes I've experienced at any Mexican place. Five stars for the unique flavors, drinks, atmosphere, choice of meats, and I'll admit that I think overall 3 star rating is simply too low. I still sort of miss Taqueria circa 1990 when it was tinier, grittier & with a smaller menu. On the other hand, more choices and more tables and more drinks! I still think their black bean burrito is yummy. And I like both the fish and shrimp tacos (two separate items). The taco salad is more meh. And I wish they offered specials sometimes just to change stuff up. They do offer some kid friendly items like a cheese quesadilla or American taco. My uncle is a huge fan of their tongue taco (not for me thanks). And, yeah, the sangria is delicious. Service is usually speedy but you definitely aren't rushed. I really like the atmosphere of the restaurant. We were seated by a window so that we could look out as we ate and that was nice. I ordered the taco salad with chicken. It was okay. I liked that there were huge hunks of chicken in it, but there wasn't nearly enough of it. The salad also came with lettuce, black olives, cheese, sour cream and guacamole. Honestly, the shell was kind of stale but it wasn't terrible. I hear that the tacos are amazing, so I will be getting those if I go back. Of all the locations, this is my favorite. Mostly because it holds sweet memories with my love. The service is always super fast and always right. They are also very friendly. The one thing that I couldn't quite put into words about this place but I became obvious after I recently brought one of my daughters here. I caught her looking around constantly, pointing out new things and wondering who the multiple pics and paint were (Pancho Villa) , it was the general atmosphere. Its cozy. Homey. Cluttered and a big open space at the same time. It really is a great location. Parking is a bear. The restaurant is at a part of Magazine that doesnt allow parking in front because there is no room. Night time parking for women can be scary I am sure. The food I think has been covered well by others but I will say that it is consistantly awesome every time. I havent been on a off night ever.
