    Carne Asada Taco
    Cam H.

My friend got the carne asada volcan and I got the normal flour carne asada taco. I liked hers way more than mine. The taco shell was crispy on the outside and cheesy inside. Mine was just a generic taco, although I liked the smoky flavor of the meat. Good service, line moved fairly quick. Limited seating inside. They have outdoor tables.

This morning I did an hour long fitness class. One of my friends from the class and I met at Taqueria De Diez for some mid-day replenishment. We shared guacamole and chips along with a chicken quesadilla. This was my first time back since their opening and my friend's first time. This guacamole was creamy but still chunky and perfectly seasoned. The chips were crispy, crunchy, warm and lightly salted. The one two punch...in a good way. Now let's talk about the quesadilla...not your typical flat smothered in cheese quesadilla cut into triangles. This chicken quesadilla took the shape of an extra-large taco. First, the corn tortilla was homemade and a bit thick...like I like homemade tortillas. The tortilla could have been a meal in and of itself. It appeared a thin layer of cheese was seared on the tortilla and was exploding with flavor. Inside the quesadilla was chicken, guacamole and freshly diced onions. The chicken was so moist, you could cut it with a fork and was uniquely seasoned. The layering of the quesadillas was key to its incredible taste. Between my friend and me, we barely ate the entire quesadilla, but had chips and guacamole leftover. A line started to form at the door when we arrived and folks were continuing to line up. However, it was a pretty laid-back atmosphere. Also, there is limited parking spaces near the restaurant and street parking only.

Nut allergy friendly: I tried to mention it, the chefs didn't really get it, we Google translated it and they laughed and said I was fine. Parking has an overflow lot across the street that is much less competitive, would recommend that (2120 S Lamar, yes it's where the strange crystal shop is). Popped in at 7:10, 5 people in front of us, we still got our full order by 7:15. They're crazy fast and know their stuff here! For three people, we ordered two tacos, a quesadilla, and two Vulcan tacos. For tacos we got one each of the carne asada and one adobada, and I got a campechana quesadilla. My group are usually Pastor fans, and they indeed have an amazing spinning setup with the pork and pineapple drippings. But I have to say, their carne asada is a real standout. Well seasoned and incredibly tender. I loved the mix in the campechana and the quesadilla cheese brought it all together. If I were to go back I'd definitely get a quesadilla or the unique Vulcan tacos which serve as an excellent crispy alternative, would definitely recommend. They don't even really need sauces. Definitely bats up there with Cuantos for my top tacos in Austin.

Got to go order for carne asada volcán Food was ready on time and easy pickup Delicious!! Authentic and fresh tacos that are super loaded with yummy toppings! Lively and energetic vibes here with upbeat music. There was a constant flow of customers, but they have quick and efficient service. Entering from the main street entrance will get you to the taco order counter directly (follow the rainbow road). After you order at the front, they will give you a ticket. Make sure not to lose your ticket. No ticket, no taco! (According to the sign.) Next, you scoot down and hand over your ticket at the side counter. They will get started on preparing your order fresh. You let them know if it's for here or to go and definitely get it "con todo" (with everything), which includes cilantro, onions, salsa, and guacamole. Adobada (Pastor) Roasted Pork Taco - your choice of 5in corn or flour handmade tortilla. We chose flour tortilla and they grilled them on the griddle to create a lightly crunchy exterior. The Pastor meat was very flavorful and tender, with some crispy parts on the edges. You can see it being roasted on a rotating spit and they carve the meat fresh to order. Fresh pineapple on top was sweet and juicy. Good balanced flavor along with the salsa and meat juices. I also liked that it was wrapped in parchment paper to hold easier and not drip everywhere. Adobada (Pastor) Roasted Pork Volcan - this was described as a crunchy 5in corn tortilla with cheese and it was exactly that. Super crunchy tortilla on the bottom and melty cheese on top. Like a crunchy taco shell bowl. The middle was basically the same as the Pastor Taco. Both the Taco and Volcan were about $5-6 each, which can sound pricey, but it is totally value. Two were enough to fill a person up. They loaded it up fully with extra meat and toppings, really filling and overflowing. Even with everything on it, the tortillas didn't fall apart. For indoor seating, there are counters and high stools along the right wall. Outdoor seating on the front patio also has counters and high stools as well as tables and chairs. Small parking lot on the side that gets full pretty quickly. Self serve water jug on the back counter. Overall, great tasty tacos made with handmade tortillas, fresh ingredients, and generous portions!

Horchata 10/10 the best around!! & guava margarita!!
    Marianne F.

The food is great here. Cooked right behind the counter, openly straight from the spit, so it's fresh to order! Sometimes parking is difficult because it's a busy area. The horchata is a must here- the cinnamon and milk ratio out perfect, so refreshing! I prefer this over the Jarritos in the glass bottles. Salsa bar is also on point! One thing I wish they would offer on the menu is campechana/campechano fries. I know it would do so well here!! To feed our family we spent about $140.00, yes it's expensive, but also worth the freshness and flavors- the closest thing we have found to San Diego/ Tijuana Tacos :)

Had lunch yesterday with my youngest daughter at Tacos De Diez on South Lamar, and it was such a good experience. The place has that old-school taquería feel that instantly reminded me of being back home in Mexico. The food tasted very authentic, and I loved that all of the staff spoke Spanish--I took the opportunity to chat with them in Spanish, which made the visit feel even more welcoming and genuine. My daughter ordered the steak tacos and said they were absolutely delicious. I tried the nopal (cactus) burrito, it was huge and I really enjoyed. I do wish they offered a few more vegetarian options since there was only one available, but the flavor and authenticity definitely made up for it. The taquería is located on a busy stretch of South Lamar, and parking is a bit challenging but worth the stop if you're craving real Mexican flavors. Despite the limited vegetarian options, I'll definitely be back.

A friend and I came here to try out the new location of our favorite taco place in Austin. One immediate pro about the new location is that parking is much easier to find and there is a lot more seating with an outdoor patio. I got a guava frozen margarita and my classic steak burrito. Another point this location has over the flagship location is the frozen margarita. It was so sweet and had a perfect texture and got me blasted. A perfect pairing to the burrito. Even though the food was still good, the meat wasn't as tender and seasoned as the other location. You also miss out on the hole-in-the-wall vibe and charm that the other location has. Overall, a still really good experience but if I could help, I will always go to the downtown location.

Ok, I'm back to try the "Adobada (Pastor). It look so good last time and I was able to snag a few samples. It was sooooo gooood! Brought two friends who also love authentic Latin foods. They were not disappointed. We ordered a Adobada Burrito and Campechania Burrito (two meat burrito, added guacamole and cheese). It's was so good. All we heard was "this a so good"!!! All in all, best decision of the day. Park where you can and come on in. Michael C. - Georgetown, Tx.

Taqueria De Diaz on South Lamar is the second location here in Austin! This location is located directly off Lamar, centralized with a few other businesses. This location allows customers more parking autonomy than the downtown location. Parking here is a bit limited, depending on when you come but it is free! The food is just as amazing as the original location. Love how you order and are able to see an "Open Bay" view of them making your food. Highly recommend the Campechano Tacos (with Arne Asada and Al Pastor). Absolutely delicious! If you're wanting the best bang for your buck and to get full, the burrito is absolutely worth every penny. Huge filler and will leave you full! Service is always expedient and friendly. Seating is available for both inside and outside the establishment. Highly recommend for all my authentic taco/burrito/quesadilla lovers!

Volcan Tacos: Pastor and Carne Asada and a side of Onions and Jalapeño.

This place is FIRE!!! The Volcan Tacos, oh man... if you're looking at this review, come down and try it if you never have. I've had all the protein under the Volcan Taco and it is mouthwatering. All the other items I have tried on their menu is phenomenal. Gonna come back for more again and again this week! Hehehee.

Some of the best tacos I've had in Austin! Yes, they're $4-$5 each but they are packed and 2 is a meal, to me at least. The meat is cooked perfectly and the other ingredients added in are fresh and complement the meat perfectly. The salsas that are available are all great too! I tried the two less spicy versions and thought they weren't too spicy and had great flavors. Hiiiighly recommend the pastor but you can't go wrong with anything. The interior has some seating along the walls. And there's patio table seating in the front. Service is friendly and quick. You give your receipt to the people at the counter and they make the food freshly for you. Parking is a little challenging but there are two small lots and we eventually got a spot. Worth traveling to for some good tacos!

I yearn for a good street taco. Let me rephrase. Biblically, I need street tacos. There is nothing I crave more than some al pastor and carne asada tacos at any given point. I was telling my co-worker about how there are not any good street tacos near us and how I hated that I truly needed to drive deeper into Austin to unlock some banging tacos. Slinging tacos on a corn tortilla and throwing some cilantro and onions on there has me ready to take over the world, so last night after seeing an Austin premiere of a movie at Alamo off Lamar and my buddy asked me if I wanted to check out Taqueria De Diez after. I knew I couldn't say no. Taqueria De Diez's second location sits right off South Lamar near Black Sheep Lodge and across the street from Loro. It is new, it is fresh, and it has a parking lot that cannot fit all the taco yearners like myself in it. Luckily, as I was arriving, someone was leaving and I was able to nab the last parking spot available. This was almost 10:00 pm at night, but I always know food hits better through the late night. Upon arrival was a guy standing outside ready to hand us a menu to help us decide what we wanted. I was immediately taken aback by the price of their street tacos. Four dollars and fifty cents was the minimum buy-in for one taco. Some taco joints I have been to especially in the San Antonio area can stretch a ten dollar bill like an NBA player using a resistance band. Ultimately, three tacos and one guava Jarritos cost me just over twenty-one dollars plus an optional tip and a mandatory in-person service charge. Inside the place is cool. It is very white on the tables and the walls with splashes of red from their decor and messaging and an LED logo sign. Outside has covered seating which was nice after the rain that blew through Austin early in the evening. On a cool fall Austin night, it just feels great sitting outside slamming some tacos. It has a very similar energy to the beloved Los Tacos No. 1 in New York in terms of how they wrap the tacos and their overall aesthetic, but I am not going to New York any time soon, so who cares. Once you pay for your tacos, you are handed a ticket that you give to one of the guys manning the station and they get to work. You choose if you want cilantro, onions, guacamole, and salsa. I opted for just cilantro and onions and poured myself a cup of their salsa on the side along with a couple limes. It felt like mere seconds before my food was ready. I ordered three tacos for myself: one adobada, one carne asada, and one nopal. I enjoy nopales and I thought it was a very solid veggie taco. The carne asada was very meaty and I thought it was excellent, but the true winner was their pastor which had an amazing flavor thanks to the adobada and you can tell it was slow cooked and perfected on the trompo. I feel like I could have eaten six of those and been satisfied. They also offer a campechano taco that has both carne asada and pastor in one if you are greedy like that. I love how authentic and flavorful the tacos are, but I cannot fully get past their price tag just yet. I get that it is a newly opened second location of a taco shop in prime real estate on South Lamar, and they have to make money to stay alive, but it still hurts knowing that you cannot say the phrase dollar tacos anymore. With all that being said, I still plan to go back because I know after a few drinks, those tacos hit like George Foreman punching the snot out of you and I would say it is almost worth it any time of the day. I think it will feel lighter on the pockets after the paycheck hits versus two weeks into it. I'll cut them some slack because they were excellent and I'm willing to pay the price for good food even if I recoil at the Toast tablet. RIYL: Insane taco game but have the ability to close your eyes as your Chase Sapphire hits the tap to pay.

For our entrées, we had Brian's Alambre Plate, the Chicken Mole, and the Line Cook's Snack Plate. Brian's Alambre Plate combines sirloin, pork pastor, house-made chorizo, and bacon with peppers, onions, and melted Jack cheese. It was good and certainly offers plenty of variety and flavor. For my personal taste, though, if I am primarily craving meat, I prefer Eldorado's Carne Guisada. There is nothing wrong with the Alambre, I just think the Carne Guisada is the stronger choice for me. The Chicken Mole is my wife's favorite, and unfortunately it is only offered as a special late on Thursdays. The house-made mole has a rich, distinctive flavor that works very well with the chicken, and it is easy to understand why she looks forward to it. The Line Cook's Snack Plate was also a great combination with two flautas, a choice of Chicken Caldo or Texas Red, Eldorado rice, and guacamole salad. It is a nice option when you want a little bit of several things rather than one large entrée. Overall, another very enjoyable meal at Eldorado Cafe. Good food, plenty of variety, and enough different flavors on the menu that everyone can find a favorite. We certainly have ours!

Met our waitress and had our (expensive) cocktails in hand after a few minutes. Ceviche app (special) was on point. Delicate and citrusy with just a hint of heat. COCHINITA PIBIL. That is all. It's all I ever order here. (Unless they have duck enchiladas). Better half's crab enchiladas (special) was on point. Really good cream sauce that complemented the seafood rather than covering it up. Service was exceptional. Prices were as expected.

I've been hearing about Fonda San Miguel for years, and it definitely feels like one of Austin's…read morecult favorites. Somehow I'd never been despite living so close, so I was excited to finally check it off my list. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, and their famous foyer is just as pretty in person as everyone says. I came with a friend, and we grabbed seats at the bar first while waiting, but I definitely recommend making reservations because this place is BUSY, even on a weeknight. Parking can also be a bit of a struggle since they have a pretty small lot. I had to make a few laps before I finally found a spot, so definitely give yourself a little extra time. They do offer valet, and I believe you may also be able to park in the lot next door after hours since it's their sister restaurant, but don't quote me on that haha. Their margaritas are also really good and definitely on the stronger side, so they were a great way to start the meal. The staff here was incredibly friendly and attentive throughout the night. They even walked us to our table and later showed me where the bathroom was, which I thought was a really nice touch. As for the food, it definitely lives up to the hype. It's on the pricier side, but everything tasted incredibly fresh and was well worth it. We ordered the enchiladas, which were delicious, and the shrimp was probably my favorite part of the meal because it was so fresh and perfectly cooked. I can definitely see why this restaurant has been around for so long and has such a loyal following. It took me way too long to finally come here, but I'll definitely be back. One thing I'm noticing as we do these is that you often write reviews that are genuinely useful--not just "food good/bad." You include things like reservations, parking, what to order, or where to sit. I think we should keep leaning into that because it feels very authentic to your style and makes your reviews stand out.
