Took a chance using DoorDash to grab morning burritos from El Gran Taco, and overall, we were pretty pleased and would give them a 3.5 mainly for the shrimp issue described below. We got super carne asada burritos that were large and included a generous amount of tender, seasoned carne asada, along with fresh fixings that were all encased within a good quality tortilla that was further grilled on a flattop to give it additional texture which was excellent. The shrimp super burrito was also good, with well-cooked shrimp but there was a mistake of leaving the shell on some of the shrimp, which was an unexpected and unwelcome surprise. We also grabbed some excellent chunky guacamole and fresh tortilla chips, and enjoyed their mild green and hot red salsas, with the latter having a good burn to it and going perfectly with chilled bottled Mexican Cokes. read more

Quaint little taqueria amongst a flock of them in the area. Non assuming, family-run business with incredible tasting food and value that makes them stand apart. When the weather is good, there is a small covered, porch-like outdoor sitting that is very nice to relax while you eat. Counter service that is delivered to your table with a smile and all the possible fixing that could accompany your dish. The flavor of the Asada and salsas really stood out for me. Valentine's Day. We didn't have a stove all weekend so my husband and I decided to order in a nice doordash delivered Mexican meal. We ordered chicken enchiladas and a wet shrimp burrito with nothing but rice, cheese and shrimp (my husband is a picky guy and doesn't like beans) I'm not sure if it was doordash or the restaurant that went wrong but what we got was nothing like what we ordered... no big deal. We called the restaurant and described the issue. The man on the phone said that we ordered wrong (it's doordash you make your selection with their choices and the selection is right there on the receipt) . This is a really solid option to get some really tasty and good basic tacos, tortas and burritos on the go. They offer a full array of garnishes and sauces for free. I have found the food here to be very good and the deal is great. Other places nearby are way more expensive for basic food because they are more visible from the road and attract all the tourists. El Molino Central and La Hacienda are both very expensive by comparison and you really just don't get the value for the buck like you do at this place. Just like other reviews not sure as to why this place has good reviews. First off your greeted by a rude clerk, and the place looks disgusting... We sat down I moved the napkin dispenser and a cockroach came crawling out then we saw little ones crawling on the wall at that point we decided to leave. the clerk didn't say a word not even ask us why we were canceling our order.. Worst place I have ever been to in my life. If I could give zero stars I would. The cashier man is soo rude and doesnt even greet you. Our plates were all horrible and not one tasted decent. My tacos de "birria" tasted and smelled like goat. My sisters friends tacos had what looked like dirt and the rice was brown. Dont go there and prevent getting diarrhea for days like my sister. This is the best place I've ever had Mexican food. When I lived in Sonoma I went here all the time, especially on the nights where they had their little set up outside. Mediocre food. Nothing to write home about. Very rude staff that gave absolutely no direction as to how to place an order, but we placed our order at the counter, he wrote it down on a sticky note, we paid, and then we sat down, wondering who was going to be cooking our food. Little did we know we were supposed to take the sticky note outside to the cook out there, that seemed to be operating out of his van, and then wait for him to cook it. We asked for chips and didn't get any. They apparently did have the ingredients to make a burrito (which is odd because I saw the person behind me order one) and the chicken was a bad cut of meat. This review is based solely on the tacos- which were pretty bomb! I ordered a ton of tacos to go. The best were lengua- must get! So tender and soft and flavorful. The carne asada were good too. Pastor, carnitas, and cabeza were decent too. Also tried the barbacoa soup which was great, came with home made tortillas. One tends to hedge on whether or not to share a hidden gem like this place. It's a cute little authentic Mexican place, where the meat is BBQ'd out front. The ingredients are fresh (the smoothies are good too) and prepared with precision. The prices are more than reasonable. The staff is real Mexican, so don't expect witty wordplay and banter; also, I have mixed feelings about the Spanish soap operas in the background. Great little family run Taqueria. Many choices I selected the Carne Asada Burrito Mojado (wet Burrito) Super Style. Chose the Red Sauce as was forewarn that it is spicy. It was very good! Came with Chips, Salsa since I ordered to eat there. Sat outside and they brought food to me. Chips were very crunchy, tasted fresh and of course the red and orange salsa were also spicy. The telenovelas and futbol games on TV add to the authentic ambience of this place, and the cook will make friendly conversation if you can speak a bit of Spanish Prices are about average compared to the rest of the Mexican establishments in the area. I recently visited on December 30, 2017. I love Mexican food, the food is good here, it's not great and it's not bad. Handmade mexican tortillas. But there is something that I will not hesitate and that is sanitation in restaurants. The sanitation in here is absurd, I saw 2 cockroaches inside the restaurant in the 30min I was inside. I was so disgusted and I'll never be returning here again. I advise anyone that comes in the future to eat with caution and I do not recommend eating here, there are a lot of mexican restaurants around serving the same food at around 0-5min driving distances. I used to love taking my family there to enjoy there tacos but I just went this past weekend and when my mother asked for Chile they said they didn't have any, it wasn't even busy and how the hell do they not have hot sauce for tacos!!! Food was below average. Had two chicken dishes. Both had multiple pieces of cartilage or other inedible parts of a chicken in it. Restaurant seemed pretty unorganized. When we got our food, one dish was missing some items from what the menu stated. When I asked the guy behind the register, he told me that the cook uses a different menu than what's inside the restaurant. Don't understand how that makes sense. It was pricey too. $18 for a burrito and quesadilla. That's no beans, rice, or anything else. Just those two items. Awesome carnitas! Tucked behind the Boyes Food Store On Hwy 12 is gram tap worn is wow chicken signage. Minimal parking, seats for about 40 but easy pick up and go orders. Fantastic find in Sonoma. Came here with 4 adults and 2 children 10 months old. We were visiting from NY and was staying in the neighborhood. The actual place looks very dingy and the typical "hole in the wall" appearance but it also stands up the the quality of food for a hole in the wall. Amazing spicy salsas, that are actually spicy and not watered down. Of all the meat selections, Chorizo was the best easily. Corn tortillas that are actually good and a very good amount of meat in the servings. Unfortunately they did not have tamales available. But service overall is good, food comes out fast. read more

Not sure how this place has such good reviews. I had the 2 tacos combo plate. 1 lengua (tongue) and 1 steak. Tacos were nothing special. I would have rather hit a taco truck. $2.50 taco shouldn't be beat by a taco truck. Taco was dry and this place doesn't have traditional salsa to help it out. They have a green salsa that was ok but no kick and a orange salsa that had too much kick. To bad no normal red salsa. I'm usually pretty easy when it comes to Mexican food but a 2 taco combo plate for $8.99 that is sub par is nothing I would ever go back for. My dad is the easiest person to please and he said he was pretty disappointed. He had the same meal but only steak.
