Finally went to try the matchas. I love that it's family run and would love to come back to try their food too. Service is super fast. There a small grocery section, the kitchen and the drink bar. Has seating inside. The drink flavors are fun and the season changes keep it fresh. I love the Brazilian limeade matcha - lime with condensed milk + matcha. It's refreshing and vibrant. The condensed milk makes it less tart. Would make a really good slushie too. The banana cream foam top matcha latte was also tasty. The cream was smooth and full of banana flavor. The crumbs on top were a pretty visual and extra texture. I also suggested a blended fresh watermelon + coconut milk topped with matcha or matcha foam as a possible next flavor. I ordered tripa, labio, barbacoa, and pastor tacos + Banana Cream Matcha. Worth the hype. The best barbacoa I've had in recent memory. Labio and pastor were tender and solid. Tripa was also cooked nicely but not adequately cleaned before. I was naturally sceptical about the matcha latte made in a taqueria but it was actually good. i've been going here since 2010! the food has always been some of my favorite mexican food in the city. the location is family owned and everyone in the family is delightfully sweet and caring. They care about the product they put out as well as the quality which i love. This year they started selling matcha and cold brew, and they are really hitting it off with the product! my little hidden gem is not so hidden anymore, but I am very happy for the family. Came here because I saw they had matcha. It was a little wait but absolutely so good. The banana crème was my favorite and the cloud nine which is coconut water and matcha crème on top it tastes so refreshing. I would say the matcha is really good no butter taste and it really brings out the flavor. Will be coming back soon when they have their cookie butter matcha which I would like to try. This is inside a taco place and it's pretty hidden if you don't venture out to this side of the city a lot. Very authentic and I could tell service is great here. My burrito was okay, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the banana cream matcha. To be fair, I came on the weekend so they were packed with orders. Definitely would come back for the food and matcha int the future. This spot was a 10/10, I visited with my sister and was warmly greeted by the staff. Tried out three matchas, the Brazilian limeade, cloud nine and Maple brown sugar matcha latte! All so refreshing and not insanely sweet and all had such wonderful flavors to them! Tried out their tacos de asada and al pastor and they did not disappoint as they were juicy and well seasoned. Amazing Matcha!!!!!! I found this Gem of a restaurant on TikTok and what Mexican restaurant has matcha and tacos!?!? To get my day started I went to Taqueria El Jardin for a banana matcha and oh boy was I in for a treat! It's well balanced and not at all too strong or bitter. Perfect balance of banana and matcha. I will say I really enjoyed it I ended up ordering the biscoff, phenomenal! Both were excellent. I also ordered 3 tacos cause why not have the best of both worlds?!?! Fried chicken taco, al pastor and asada all were great! I even got a side of rice to try on the house and it was delicious as well! Definitely will come back!!! The menu has everything from tacos to tortas and tamales. I had the 3 taco combination platter. The tacos I had were al pastor, chicken and carne asada. All were delicious and the platter also came with rice and beans. The horchata was ice cold and refreshing. Overall an excellent experience. I love a local small business and found this while looking for spots off the Blue line! Met up a friend and easily found a table in the back for a Friday lunch. The service was quick and the prices were good! I ordered the agua de Jamaica and it was delicious, but where I went wrong was the chicken burrito. It was fried chicken! This place is where it's at! Passing it you're not sure but one of the best chile relleno and burritos I've had in the city. The fried chicken here looked outstanding also! Good for takeout but some tables in a clean sitting area. Affordable prices, super nice owner, large menu with he generous portions and most importantly DELICIOUS food! Overall, this place is a hole in the wall, literally but don't discount that for bad food because the tacos here are stellar. This location is hidden in the middle of a neighborhood. I ordered chicken taco and quesadillas. The meat could have been better, instead of fried chicken, a grilled chicken with a spice might have made it better but the quality of the food was great and the verde sauce and red sauce were still amazing. My love of a great burrito knows no bounds. There's nothing like the combination of a fresh tortilla, hot protein, cold veggies, and a kick of spice. With a plethora of places claiming to be "authentic" it's hard to find actual authenticity. I stopped in for a few groceries and noticed a cafeteria style area with a guy cutting insane amounts of cilantro. If you want my attention, this is the way to grab it! I literally stopped shopping and queued up for a burrito! Chorizo (My Fav) was on the menu and I ordered up. I had a very specific expectation of what I was about to enjoy but this was not that. I love a great tasting taco, who doesn't? If you're looking for a quick, hearty bite without any of the pomp and circumstance, this is your place. It's a small neighborhood market with a few tables for you to enjoy your food after placing your order at the register. If you decide to eat in, just grab a table and they'll bring it out to you. Your food will be made fresh and to order, prices are more than reasonable and they have some tasty horchata, if you're not a fan there are several cold refrigerator cases with water, soda, tea, etc., you won't go thirsty. The hot sauces, green and red have good spice, the red has some heat. I had a vegetarian taco with everything, next time I'll lose the sour cream, and a steak one, I don't eat meat often anymore, but wanted to give it a try, since a traditional steak taco with onion and cilantro is a favorite of mine. You get a slice of lime to squeeze onto your tacos too, for the ultimate perfection. One of the reviewers, did say that this isn't a five star place. I understand the perspective, however I try to rate places based upon what they're trying to accomplish. This is a neighborhood Taqueria, for example you don't go to McD's or BK and expect Au Cheval do you? They're accomplishing exactly what's expected and then some. So the five star reviews are deserved. The man behind the register, and the one working the grill couldn't have been nicer, friendly and welcoming smiles, very genuine hospitality. We took the 66 from downtown to get here - quick ride. Ordered the pound of barbacoa (tip: you can order by the lb to go but by the taco when eating in). Food was awesome. I eat a lot of Mexican food and travel quite frequently to Mexico, and this place is the REAL deal. It's a hole in the wall, in all the senses. It doesn't even feel or look like a restaurant, more like a convenient store. This didn't deter me at all. This place is one of the best parts of living near Noble Square. Everything is delicious and inexpensive. My favorites are the al pastor taco (best I've ever had) and the chile relleno taco, with chorizo+egg torta and steak quesadilla as go-to items as well. Be aware that the chicken tacos use a breaded fried chicken, then buy them too because they are excellent! They also sometimes make Mexican soups and other traditional foods that aren't listed on the menu. read more

Taqueria el jardín is inside of a neighborhood bodega, so while you wait for your delectable grub, you can find all the double priced boxes of pasta your heart desires. I've had the steak burrito with avocado and a torta here; both were phenomenal, and if you live in a walking distance of this establishment, you have got to come here. Interestingly they also serve fried chicken that sits in a glass container all day, which I don't really understand who buys that, but maybe one day I'll take the plunge. Honestly, the fried chicken is also some of the best in the city and the tacos are all made fresh to order from a local family with a smile. They offer a handful of tables to dine in and are great for to go orders as well. I personally always get 3 steak tacos with 2 pieces of fried chicken on the side. Inside of a local bodega, seemed a little rough around the edges but it was so worth it! Long line at lunch time let's you know their food is legit. I got the 2 taco and rice meal for $5, and my boyfriend got the tortas, both were delicious! Authentic Mexican food all together for $12 (included a soda too) and very filling! I ordered one chicken taco (I know, who orders one taco?), what I got was a meal. Not even kidding. Four tortillas, like a pound of chicken, toppings galore and 4 containers of salsa. I loved my chicken taco (meal)! No frills, seriously. You are literally eating in the middle of this tiny store surrounded by drink coolers and shelves stocked with everything from potato chips to laundry soap. A true bodega. Spanish television blasting while people eat at what seem like card tables and a few stools looking into the grill area. People come in to grab carnitas and chicken by the bucket full so I imagine that stuff tastes pretty good too. Prices are very cheap, especially for what you get. They take credit cards with a small minimum. They didn't make a fuss about it at all but I must say that I felt kind of silly using my debit card in here for some reason...take cash if you can! read more

Oh boy nobody has reviewed El Jardin! We call it the "JARdin", pronouncing the "j" and stressing the first syllable. I still haven't tried their tacos; I had their fried chicken once when REALLY hungover, but it wasn't anything special. We use it as a corner store. They have Gatorade and Tylenol packets for hangovers, a few kinds of cereal, a million kinds of chips (it's next door to a school), toilet paper (there's a stick with a hook hanging nearby to help you drag the rolls from the top shelf), canned goods, ramen noodles, Mexican seasonings (I've bought some as impulse buys, and they've been great!) dog and cat food, toiletries, dairy and eggs... you get the idea. You can get bags of ice in 3 different sizes; I just say "the $2 size" and get a Jewel-type shopping bag full of ice from their machine. Once you learn what they have, it's very convenient, just like any corner bodega... They close at 4 on Mondays, FYI. read more

It looks like a small neighborhood convenience store but inside is some of the best Mexican food I have had in Chicago! Great carne asada that has wonderful flavor.
