I had lunch at the Swamp Shack yesterday and it was delicious. I had the Cajun bowls with the Gumbo,Red beans and rice and the Dirty rice. It was delicious and all I could do to get it all done in one meal! Along with warm roll and the packages of crackers. My friend had the seafood platter and she said it was really good, too! Our server was spot on and made sure we got a guest loyalty card. Which will enable us to get a free meal. After 7 visits to the restaurant! Thanks for the offer! read more

Had a pretty disappointing experience here. Our waitress seemed very unhappy and even argued with us about our order after bringing out the wrong food, which made things uncomfortable right away. The oysters on the half shell didn't seem fresh and looked like they may have been sitting out for a while, which was concerning. On a positive note, a younger woman who I believe was the manager stepped in and genuinely tried to help resolve the issue, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, by that point the experience had already gone downhill, so we decided to leave. Also worth noting--they advertise crawfish, but it's only available starting at 4 PM on Fridays and on weekends, which wasn't clearly communicated. Overall, not a great experience, and I'd be hesitant to return. read more

The food was amazing! The service was beyond great and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the ambiance was exactly as I expected.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We just moved to Lake Jackson and this was the first restaurant we tried. We were pleasantly surprised! I had the chicken strips with jalapeño gravy. It was fantastic. My husband had the seafood platter and he agreed that he would definitely come back for that. The Waitress took our order without writing it down and she was "Spot On" with her great ability to remember everybody's specific order. An amazing feat of memory! We tipped her very well! I ordered the Cajun Redfish with Crawfish Ettouffe Cajun Fries and a Pistolette Roll! The food was good, and mildly spiced but the service was Excellent! Highly recommend! My qualifications as an Expert and Experienced Food and Customer Service Critic; I have a BS in Management and have been trained in two Culinary Schools, to include on the job training at other venues. I've managed full service as well as fast food restaurants and have had my own successful Catering business. I calculated I have eaten over 10,000 oysters in my time on the full Gulf coast, the oysters they served were not to be eaten. Flat, gray and nasty, in addition they were not even shucked correctly with the muscle still attached to the bottom shell. The staff did acknowledge they looked bad and I offered to pay because it was my choice not to eat, they were kind and took off the bill. Suggestion, DO NOT SERVE Oysters that smell and look wrong. 2. The blacken Redfish, dry, NOT spicy at all and served with a ramekin of hot margarine or butter, which was needed to choke down the dry and nearly flavorless fish. What a shame, I have again eaten blacked redfish at least 100 times in my travels. This was BAD, but at least edible. 3. Key lime pie... Well, an 3/8inch rock hard crust and sticky and chewey filling is not right. The crust was both under baked and hard. The filling was like hard jello no whip cream, or meringue no sauce or garnish, just a slab of off green creamish jello and a under baked too thick and hard and dry crust. I did eat it as to not be a total jerk. 4. Finally, they cannot even get ranch dressing right. It was more like ranch mayonnaise with no flavor. Sad. Bottom line it is sad that the nice staff is burdened with a bad cook. This would make me dislike Gulf coast food if I didn't know better. read more

Service was fine but the food was terrible. I got the buffet. The buffet had very little to choose from and they had a waitress serving some of the food to you. I would give one star, but giving two stars only because the wait staff was so nice. We had seen on Facebook that the Swamp Shack had a buffet spread on Sundays and thought we'd give it a try. It was not a "spread". Just a bunch of fried food, soup and shrimp. The $2 mimosas were pretty decent and that's about it. Most everything on their buffet was over-cooked and dry. You couldn't even tell what one dish was from the next. We paid $23 each for a few bites of food. Maybe their regular menu items are better, but we will never know. Avoid the buffet, unless you are looking to just eat a bunch of bland fried food. The cobbler was served in a paper dish and tasted like cardboard. Was so disappointing. We really wanted to like this place, but it just wasn't worth what we paid. It looks cute enough, but just kind of meh. Some TVs with random sports on, no music. Bright walls and tributes to our military, which was nice, but we left less than satisfied. read more

What a great find as we headed to the beach for our anniversary. The food was amazing, the service so friendly, and on the way to Surfside! The redfish was simply delightful and full of flavor. Really thought the buffet every Sunday is a STEAL! For only $23 per person you get all sorts of food, including gumbo, etouffe, stuffed crab, fried okra, dirty rice, fried shrimp, and a bunch of other shrimps and fish. I was craving gumbo so the ayce really hit the spot, and the crawfish etouffe was absolutely delicious. As you can see in the picture, they're quite generous with the proteins. My bowls were packed with shrimps and crawfish. Dirty rice was also a favorite at our table, and cocktail shrimp was so plump and juicy. All in all, every menu item could hold its own and I was very impressed considering that it was buffet food. read more

One of my favorites! Great food with great service! They also have a nice bar with lots of refreshments selections. They have the best tasting crawfish around (when in season)! The restaurant is nicely decorated and they have large room for a big group to be separated for a little privacy (like for a company meeting or rehearsal dinner. Can't imagine why someone wouldn't enjoy this place. It may not be a 5 star restaurant but it's better than a 4. It's well run and the food we had was excellent. We both had Cajun fish which is blackened with etoufee on top. With dirty rice and grilled Veggies. The fish was well prepared and the etoufee was very good. I don't think you can compare Cajun food in Texas with Cajun food in Louisiana - it's just not fair. But having lived in both states I was impressed. read more

It's been a few years since I've been here. I went hoping that there would be improvements. One word describes this restaurant: mediocre. Mediocrity in service, atmosphere, food quality, and recipe quality. The only thing that makes this place stand out is that they advertise that they serve Cajun / creole in an area dominated by Tex/Mex. The hostess and server were polite, but obviously wanted to be elsewhere. The boredom shone through. Makes me wonder if management is trying to keep their staff happy. The atmosphere (which has been updated since my last visit) was as inspired as a yard sale getting ready to wrap up. The music was interrupted repeatedly by the streaming service advertising its premium service. Disruptive and makes me think, "Y'all can't afford a better music service?" The food? Technically it was sanitary and followed health code. What needed seasoning didn't have enough (breading). What didn't need a lot of seasoning had too much (green beans). Everything has a sandy texture, especially the dirty rice and hush puppies. It was edible. Uninspired and cooked to the bare minimum of standards, but edible. read more

First let me say, the food was very good and the waitress service was very good. However, I specifically went early, at 4PM, and asked to be seated in an area away from others. The hostess happily accommodated the request and there were no other diners eating in the area where I was seated. Mid-way through the meal, another set of diners was seated directly behind my table. The entire room was still empty. There was no reason a least one table could have been left empty between us. Just unfortunate. The COVID-19 protocols of spacing aren't being followed.
