I finally stopped by to try this place after seeing the reviews on Yelp and in local social media groups. I ordered carne asada tacos, a quesabirria taco, and a chicken quesabirra taco. I enjoyed my food overall. The asada tacos were good, they didn't skimp on the meat. They were super heavy on the onion so I'll def request light onion next time, but that's an easy fix. The beef birria had more flavor than the chicken birria, which is something I expected, however I can see both being equally popular. I do wish the salsa bar had more options, but what they have does that job. There was a salsa macha on the menu for an upcharge and I am excited to try that on my next visit. They have a pretty expansive menu so there's something for everyone. You order online or at the kiosk when you walk in, they put barcodes in the parking lot and on all of the tables. Good tacos and burritos and lemon cake. The issue we have is they nickle and dime their customers to the point that they look like total cheapskates. No salsa is included with tacos and burritos unless purchased separately. This is like charging ketchup for your fries. Salsa is really standard. They also "missed" the lettuce we added for $1.25. Because of the other things I mentioned, it makes me think they did this deliberately. The $5 slice of cake is good but 1.5 inch slice at the edge. Ridiculous. Not a repeat for us. And if you are new to the area, ratings for restaurants in Vallejo are realistically more like 1-2 star down from what it shows. Standards are different. read more

I only made it through one of the queso Birria tacos cause they were huge but man were they good The taco was nice of crispy and greasy and it had crunchy Carnitas inside and that wonderful dipping sauce. It was a tiny bit spicy, but man was it good. I would definitely order again. I had never heard of a mulita so I thought I'd give it a try. It's kinda like a tostada, but it's tiny. It's filled with onions and meat and guac and I think it's supposed to be crispy although it wasn't when it got here. Sometimes it be like that when you have food delivered. Service here is exceptional and accommodating. They're very patient with you and will answer any questions you have pertaining to the menu and food. After our orders were placed, it didn't take long before we were out and on our way home. I had ordered the quesa birria tacos with broth, and they were so good. Perfect crunch, nicely seasoned meat, and the broth gave it more flavor. 3 tacos was more than enough for one person, in my opinion, and they're quite large. Barely any sauce, sauce was watery, flour tortilla was rubbery and barely any cheese. I paid about $16 for these, ate a little of the beans and rice but pretty much threw the whole meal in the trash. On a couple occasions the rice has tasted old and dried out, Not impressed with tacos or burritos either. I will say the quesaburilla and the jalapeno poppers were very good, but it's 3 small poppers for $6! They also give 10% off if you order through their app, but I tried to download it and order and the app menu is very tedious. I gave up and just ordered at the register. The lady and I went through the drive-through, which was very convenient; however, I had my doubts. We order super Nachos with carnitas. They were delicious! Smothered in cheese, meat, salsa, and flavor. Every bite was better and better, and the portion size was more than enough to share. We were stuffed after the nachos and still had some of the carne asada burrito we also ordered. The burrito was the bomb. Simple, good ingredients packed with flavor, I had to stop myself from eating the entire thing. The little difference went a long way. They don't ask you for the type of beans because the nachos come with refried, and the burrito comes with whole beans, and yes, I am about it--5 starts from beginning to end. We moved in here in October 2023, and we were so happy to see Taqueria La Estrella right around the corner from us. We were close to their Richmond location when we moved. We have been ordering their Chorizo breakfast burrito almost every week since then. We ordered another one this past Saturday, as we have always done, but they forgot to add the chorizo. After I had started eating, I noticed they had forgotten and went to take it back. The owner told me it was half a burrito and that she would not return it. I told her I kept eating because I hoped to find the chorizo! I have been a long-time customer, and she would not fix the issue. I asked her if she was willing to lose me as a long-time customer and not fix my burrito, and she said Yes?! I am sad we will not return to the Vallejo or to the Richmond location either. Hopefully, they will work on their customer service in the meantime. read more

Though the lady was super nice, I thought the $7 bean and cheese burrito was a little steep. Not to mention it had rice and it was cold. To the point the cheese wasn't even melted. I also got the taco salad with steak and asked for refried beans instead of whole. No beans. Steak was cold and there was way more rice than lettuce which should be a crime. I really keep trying with this place and sometimes it's a hit, but most of the times a miss. I ordered nacho fries, asked for no sour cream, and when I get home and crack open my food what do I see but the remnants of a TON of sour cream just scraped off with a ton of the avocado sauce spread over the top to cover the sour cream that had been there. Completely unacceptable. If you mess something up, just make it over again. What if it had been a food allergy? This unfortunately will likely be my last time here, which is unfortunate due to how close they are to my house. I really hope that management takes this comment into consideration and takes some time to train their service staff.
