As soon as I dug into the barbacoa, I knew I wasn't going to be able to make it to the bacon and egg. The barbacoa was "that" good. Still, I snapped a pic. As for the barbacoa - it was delicious, seasoned to perfection, and hot. Mine had onions and cilantro with a squirt of lime. The result? A dude full from deliciousness. Tony - the owner - he works hard. He speaks both English and Spanish -- and you can he knows what he's doing, This place has been in a few locations before. Right now, he's in the Stop N Bye gas station. That being said, there are only a few tables, but...most people take their orders to go. Next time, barbacoa again. Don't think that I will be able to try something new when I landed on the jackpot the first time.

The verde was my favorite and it had a kick, but it was sooooo good. Today I ordered the flautas and the barbacoa tacos. Both were amazing and showed how elevated home-style Mexican food is among the best in the world. The owner is extremely sweet and passionate about her food. You can tell that each dish and salsa is a labor of love. I enjoy my conversations with her and learning about her culinary history. I highly recommend La Garnacheria. All of the food is intensely and marvelously flavorful. The Tacos de Canasta are filled corn tortillas steamed over hot oil for one hour, then warmed up when you order. The chicharrone filling was the best I have ever had, hands down. Wonderful umami flavor and creamy pork fat. I was warned that they would probably fall apart and they did, but I didn't mind at all. The tostadas were the traditional corn shell topped with a layer of refried beans, shredded chicken in a tomato and chipotle sauce, lettuce and cheese. They held up well on the drive home (I ordered to go). They are carefully constructed so that you can pick them up and they eat pretty neatly for a tostada. All the different flavors come through. The Esquite is a corn dish, equivalent to what other Tex-Mex trucks call elote. At $12 for 12 ounces it is kind of pricey. But oh my, the flavor! (I know I'm saying flavor a lot. Flavor flavor flavor flavor). The bone marrow broth gives it an incredible richness. I actually finished that 12 ounce cup, which has not happened before. This has spoiled me for elote now. The dishes came with two salsa cups. They are more spreads than liquid. There's a red one that has a pleasant kick and more delicious flavor. And a darker one that is flaming hot, but you can still get the flavor of the chile. The salsas are an achievement on their own, and complement the food wonderfully. I wanted to try the Arroz con Leche, but she was still preparing that when I came and I chose not to wait. Based on the other dishes I think it would be great. The owner was working the truck on her own and describes her food as home cooking. The prices are comparable to other trucks for a serving, but each item is really only enough for one (you will want three tacos if you're making a meal of them). The tostadas are a pair so you could share if you have a small appetite. I would definitely look forward to trying the rest of her menu. Can't really find anything to fault.

They only have two protein options--beef fajita and pork al pastor. The meats were both cooked nicely, appropriately tender. Made a good bite with the corn tortillas. They had two salsas, green and orange. Both were about the same heat level, moderately spicy. The al pastor flavor on the pork was pretty mild--I don't mind that at all as I find al pastor pretty acidic if it's real strong. The two proteins are offered in a variety of formats--quesadillas, burritos, etc. They also do burgers, and I would probably try one of those next time. But they were out of chicken that night, so we got a chorizo gordita and one of each kind of taco. Got an elote (on their menu it's maiz, but same thing) and a horchata agua fresca to go with. The food came with generous toppings of onions, cucumbers, and cilantro. All the meats had great flavor, well cooked in and then reheated on the grill. Pretty tender too. They had a genuine trompo, but the chef did not actually carve the meat off the trompo for my taco. Must have been carved ahead. But the al pastor flavor was very good. The tacos were somewhat small but didn't cost much. The menu is handwritten and doesn't have prices for everything, but the entire meal came to $21 before tip, which is not bad. They take cash and Zelle. Only minor hiccups--it was unfortunate to not get chicken, probably their most popular meat. I wanted a jamaica agua fresca but it was noisy and I like horchata too so I rolled with it. If you're curious it is definitely worth a try. The business is open in the evenings when the taqueria inside Dave's Express is closed. This intersection certainly doesn't lack for food options. There are twelve places you can get food right there--sixTex-Mex (not all open at the same time), Burrito District Cali-Mex, a Central American place, Hippo Burger, Uncle's BBQ, Aloy Aloy (a Thai place), and I-45 Diner.
