Quality food with authentic ingredients! They had such a large menu it was hard to decide what to pick. Happy hour like margs cost $3/4 a drink which is a great deal. I really appreciated the salsa bar with a variety of heat levels. The staff was very kind and attentive. Restaurant was spacious and very calm for a Monday night dinner. I would return to try other menu items!

Definitely 5 stars for service. We were welcomed with enthusiastic welcome and smile. My boyfriend ordered two coke bottles for the road as we just stopped for restroom break on our way to DC. The staff even followed us to make sure he handed a bottle opener for the Coke. Amenities great - dining area is clean and colorful with paper cutouts strewn on the ceiling. Restroom is clean, well maintained. They have baked breads. Got one to go, quite fresh and good.

The San Jose fajitas were delicious, as was the Burrito California with chorizo.

My husband and I stopped by this place when it first opened, and we now visit at least a couple of times a month. It's not just a run-of-the-mill American Mexican restaurant -- Taqueria Los Altos offers some dishes you don't usually find. There are pupusas, sopes, huraches, and tamales, plus delicious, non-dry fajitas and excellent tacos, burritos, and all the usual things. There are great soups on the weekends, too, plus a salsa bar with great options. They make their corn tortillas by hand, and their margaritas and palomas are just right. The restaurant has two sides -- an attractive space for sit-down dining and a smaller space for takeout. The service is good, and often provided by a family member. There's a nice bar, but the restaurant stays pretty quiet. It has become our favorite spot for a spontaneous date, and we look forward to being back soon.

We stopped here for lunch as a quick detour off I-95. Definitely worth the stop! Food was delicious, very quick service, casual but clean interior (including a clean bathroom). We all got tacos - chicken, birria, pastor, and steak - all of which were tasty. Good variety of salsas as well. If we're passing through would absolutely stop here again.

Good food in an authentic environment. Menu has good options and lots of selections allow for the purchase of one item so you are able to mix and match a few different items for a meal. Generous portions

House margarita, it was happy hour.

This place is amazing!! My husband & I got three tamales, one of each and shared it. My favorite was the pork one. I also love the aguagcate medio picante salsa/sauce from the sauce bar. It has a little bit of heat, but is so flavorful!

    Tacos

The tacos were amazing, they are authentic. I liked the shrimp taco the best and the steak was a close second. There is a salsa bar with lots of different salsas. Service was good and the food came out quickly. There is a full service bar with all one would expect of a Mexican restaurant. Def recommend this place.

Located at Ashland Junction Shopping Center, next door Roses Discount Store, La Catrina Tortilleria…read moreserves up authentic fresh made Mexican cuisine is a low key casual setting. The place offers a full bar with seats and there are around 11 or so tables situated in the front of the space and a Mexican grocery & variety store towards the left side and back of the space. For food, they offer tacos, burritos, quesadillas, huaraches, fajitas, gorditas, sopes, tortas, caldos, tostadas, salads, cerviche, shrimp dishes, chilaquiles, fries, and a kids menu. They also have happy hour food and drink deals weekdays 3pm to 6pm. The prices seem reasonable. I stopped by La Catrina around 5:40pm before the place started to get really busy. I took a seat at an open table and complementary chips, salsa & queso were brought out. I requested an ice water as I was deciding. I decided to go with 2 happy hour items including Flautas ($9.99 plus tax) and the Tacos de Asada ($6.99 plus tax). The place became really busy and the server brought over more hot fried chips as I waited for my food. Those chips were very crunchy (some broke apart) and good with the mild salsa and dense queso. My food arrived in 20 minutes, a good amount. The flautas had 3 rolled deep fried tortillas filled with shredded chicken topped with refried beans, lettuce, cheese, sour cream, tomatoes, & avocado slices. The tacos de asada were 3 soft pressed corn tortillas filled with chopped grilled steak, cilantro & onions, radish & lime on the side. Green and red sauces were provided too. After I finished all of the food, I got the check which was $19.02 with tax and before tip. Overall, the food was very good and I was very full. The service was a bit delayed since the place was very busy with dine-in and takeout orders. I needed to go next door to walk around before heading out.

I left the one star review so that it might come to the attention of upper management. It will not deter us from returning again. People aren't born a happy server. However, with training, they become awesome personality for the restaurant. Our server was not a people person . No hello or welcome to the restaurant. They did not revisit our table to check our drinks, however, another server stepped in and refreshed our drinks. Our original server never stopped by to see if we needed anything or wanted anything else.. The quality of service is a staple to the survival of a business that serves the public . The decorations, were identical to the other ones that were in the area. Awesome. I ordered the beef and chicken nachos appetizer. It comes loaded with meat and cheese. More than any other entrée in the dinner menu selection. . So much so it's too much food for one sitting.

Plenty of parking around back, it may be tricky driving into the location but we met right at 5:30. My friend got there before me and got us on the waitlist. Luckily, it wasn't that crowded yet and were seated pretty quickly. We decided to start out on their house margarita...my stupid self went ahead and answered the server "the largest one you have!" They were NOT kidding - this cut was gigantic! I told my friend that we will be getting one to share between the both of us. I made it a personal goal to finish at least half of it before leaving... I decided on their chef's special, carne steak (it was all the meat lol: steak, chorizo, with rice and beans). OMG, it was amazing with so much left over! (Spoiler - it taste amazing cold too! haha). I don't remember the dessert that we got but it was seriously like a big pancake churro with a scoop of ice cream. The place is clean and our server was great! He was on top of everything, let us do our thing and checked us on at the right time. I'm already excited for the next girl's catch up date already.
