    Chicken tortilla soup!!
    Trisha R.

I absolutely love this restaurant! It's a family owned taqueria, and I have been in there numerous times for their soup! The chicken authentic Mexican soup is by far my favorite! I like it so much, that they got to know me by name! They cater to my special order. (No onions, no tortillas, extra chips and add avocado!) love love love this place! It's definitely my go to!

This is got to be My Favorite Taqueria in downtown San Mateo.

This has got to be my favorite spot in downtown San Mateo!, Today they greeted me with a frosted glass, and I got a chance to sit down and enjoy my go to, an Al Pastor super burrito. But everything on the menu is amazing!

$3.50 per taco 4.45 Oz per taco Meat was well flavored and had the right amount of grease. The tortillas were correctly grilled and the salsa was delicious. Tacos don't get much better than this! Two others and I decided to embark on a taco trot through downtown San Mateo's taquerias to uncover the pinnacle of street taco perfection. We only judged the tacos and not any other amenities of the taqueria. We ventured from one taqueria to the next, leaving no stone unturned to find the ultimate street-style taco. Each of us had a distinct mission: one to evaluate carne asada, myself al pastor, and the third pollo tacos. Our rating system spanned meat, salsa, tortilla, overall quality, and value. We sampled our way through all nine downtown taquerias (excluding food trucks, grocery stores, and pupuserias). After tallying the scores, we reached a unanimous consensus on the top four contenders. These taquerias stood out for their commitment to delivering unparalleled street tacos. These are the only places in downtown to which we'd return: Charlie's, Los Primos #1, Al Vapor Nueva Italia, and Pancho Villa.

Four years later and still amazing service and food. As always I'm ordering for the office and it can get complicated but I don't think they've ever messed up an order. In fact they're so thoughtful and provide extra sauce, chips, and grilled onions. Thank you to the entire staff.

first time - all jumbo burritos.shrimp, carne asada and pollo asada. absolutely awesome. nice juicy burrito - great tortilla - sauces and chips. this place rocks! staff was very nice - keep in mind - CASH ONLY - didn't know that but I had exactly enough. Got lucky and enjoyed great burritos that we will be coming back for more. so good!

I was super excited for their California burrito but honestly i was a bit disappointed. I ordered 2 to go, and got there 15 mins after the phone call, and the food wasn't ready, despite the person taking the order said 15-20 mins; I was okay waiting; but the wait turned to be 20+ mins at the restaurant too! The reason is, there was only one person in the kitchen making the food for everyone! I felt so bad for him, since they were so busy (had about 10-12 people in the restaurant). The ladies weren't too friendly, I wasn't sure why. Food: it was really oily, I could feel my arteries clotting (a bit dramatic, I know) seriously the oil was dropping from the burrito); I had a quarter of it and decided to toss the rest. Deducted one star for oily food. Their salsa was good, and so was their meat, but I think the service, with weight, nonchalant waiters, and feeling bad for one chef, combined with the oily burrito made the experience kind of dull. Deducted one star for service Parking: they do have a small parking at the corner and street parking too! It wasn't terrible finding a spot.

4/5 for sure, definitly recommend coming here. Reading the reviews I was a little mixed prior to our visit. Fair to note also, Google and signage says 9am, but the open at 10am. No big deal our wait was well worth it. I deconstructed my sons burritto when it arrived because it looked so huge. Most places you would unroll it and find mediocre amounts of mixed up blah. The presentation on all of these burrittos were spot on!!! They placed everything so it was in every bite and we might have well had asked for extra meat because they did NOT skimp out on that like most places. Everything tasted fresh, came to the table fast and the staff was very friendly. This is hands down the best rice that I have ever had!!! **Additional note, this would totally be a 5 star review if they had deep fried ice cream on their menu . This is always a go to for me at any Mexican food place.

The enchilada special. I ate every.single.last.bite.

Visiting San Mateo and found this gem at lunchtime. Let me just say, I'm lucky I don't live here because if I did, I WOULD EAT HERE EVERY DAY. My gosh it is tasty. Freshly made everything. Fresh squeezed juices (you pick which two to combine!), super friendly staff. Pleasant, home-kitchen sort of ambience. I would just come here, eat my fill, and enjoy being in this environment. Must try, again and again....!

A shout out to @Paolo B for reminding me in his review that Taqueria Los Primos is open. I was craving a burrito and decided to go there. Liked - California burrito: loved the carne asada - carnitas burrito - fresh ingredients - cleanliness : everyone had masks and gloves - friendliness So so - chicken quesadilla: I've had better and bigger, kinda of skimpy on the cheese Overall a good take out with fresh ingredients and generally filling burritos. Chips and salsa and grilled onions hit the spot.

Big gaps between rounds made me feel like I wasted a lot of time for the AYCE price. (-1) Their appetizers and "from the wok" section was not impressive. We tried their calamari and their onion rings and both were over-fried. We also tried their garlic noodles and their crab fried rice. The garlic noodles were super watery. My partner did enjoy the crab fried rice and could taste the crab. For the main entrees, we ordered shrimp, snow crabs, and clams, all perfectly cooked! Plump and flavorful. The sauce was pretty thick and garlicky-- 10/10 sauce lol it was almost creamy? Their service was fine. The staff were pretty attentive and they were always asking if we needed anything outside of rounds. (-1) You do have to finish every single piece of seafood in your round before you can request more, and it takes a long time for the next round to arrive. I felt like I waited 10 minutes between each round. If you're the kind of person that likes to maximize your eating time, you might find this super frustrating. This was really my only issue but wouldn't stop me from visiting again and considering à la carte only vs AYCE.

They simply canceled the entire order after it had already been confirmed. Really disappointing service. I won't be ordering from here again.

The person who answered the phone was incredibly kind, patient, and welcoming. They happily answered all of my (probably silly!) questions and even asked whether we preferred to sit indoors or outdoors. The entire staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive, and what stood out most was how sincere it felt. These weren't just professional smiles--they made us feel like truly welcomed guests. Our server, Stefania (I hope I'm spelling her name correctly!), was absolutely wonderful. She was warm, funny, attentive, and made our evening even more enjoyable. She asked whether we'd like to watch the game, whether we preferred a table in the shade, and even offered to bring a heater later in the evening if it became chilly. It was clear that everyone genuinely wanted us to have the best possible experience. The food was outstanding. Our group had very different tastes, yet every single person found something they loved, and everyone left happy. Every dish was beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. Overall, Bahche exceeded our expectations in every way. We left feeling appreciated rather than just served, and that makes all the difference. Would I come back? Without a second thought. My most recent visit for lunch on a Saturday was very busy! The line was out the door but they move fast and the food comes out even quicker. There are plenty of outdoor and indoor tables where you sit wherever you. There is self service water with and without lemon throughout the location. Pros: Quick and friendly service Tasty lobster rolls, lobster chowder, and crab sandwiches Con: Parking is VERY limited. They have a small lot in the back and you can park against their fence but over the weekend it's almost impossible. There is street parking but also a little hard if you want to park directly nearby. I parked about 1.5 blocks away on the next street parallel to the restaurant. The naked lobster roll is one of my favorites because you can really taste the meatiness of the lobster. You can tell it is fresh in every way with the buttery brioche bread. The tray comes loaded with chips and a side of Cole slaw. If you come with friends, I recommend getting a bowl of the lobster soup to share. Dipping the chips into the soup is chef's kiss! If you are a smaller party, you can always get the 1/2 lobster roll and cup of soup. But the better deal is to get the soup to share on the side since the lobster roll is $39 vs the 1/2 lobster roll and cup of soup is $37. If choosing between the which lobster roll to get, I opt for the naked roll because of the freshness and it is not as heavy. The dressed lobster roll has a good amount of flavor and pairs well with the bread, it's a little heavier because of the mayo and butter brioche bread. They don't use a ton of mayo in it so it's not as bad as you may think. I've had the twin tails in the past and I can definitely say it was very easy to get the lobster out. Sometimes some places make it more difficult and people don't want to really dig in with their hands. Safe to say it was very easy to eat. Over the years, I've seen the price go up with inflation unfortunately. So I definitely still come but as a little treat to myself or if I were to come celebrate a special occasion.

We saw to people there and they greeted us when we came in. Seemed like it was a mom and daughter. They were very nice. They sat us down and gave us the menu and how the ayce works. I am not sure how to rate the food. The selection of seafood that you can pick was nice. Clams, mussels, shrimp and crawfish were the seafood picks you can do. Potatoes, sausage, corn were the free add on that you can do. I do not eat crawfish, which was also a seafood pick, so I can't review that. Everything was good. The shrimp was hit and miss, depending on the piece. They were peel and eat, but some shrimps were mushy meaning those shrimps were old. It was tolerable. Nothing that I haven't had before. I'll let it go for the price point they offer. The clam and mussels were good. As expected. The sausage, corn and potatoes were good as well. The place was pretty legit. The fried shrimp and fried chicken wings were amazing! Freshly fried, they were juicy and steaming on the inside, and crispy on the outside. Although the place was dead (it was a Wednesday after all), we did see a lot of people come in and pick up food to-go. Not sure if they were customers or drivers picking up for Doordash/Uber Eats. The restaurant itself is smaller than expected, so I would avoid coming here with large parties. It also felt really hot and stuffy inside, which I anticipate getting worse as summer progresses. The interior is cutely decorated. Service was initially attentive. We did have to flag down our waitress multiple times to order and get the check. I still definitely want to go back and try more things on their menu. Totally recommend for all my fellow carb lovers! My order: Complimentary Focaccia-- Apologies for the picture because we scarfed it down, it was so good!! Super fresh and delicious. Gnocchi Fritto -- Fried gnocchi with truffle sauce. This is a must try for their appetizer honestly! I loved its crunch and soft texture with the truffle sauce. Build your own pasta -- I loved how they have this as an option! We were trying to get our protein in by getting Rigatoni, Bolognese, AND meatballs. Super heavy in the best way haha. Lasagna Pollo alla Vodka -- Now this was super heavy, but so delicious. I've never had a lasagna with chicken OR with vodka pasta, it was amazing. New flavors for me for sure, but I do recommend this!
