    Chicken tortilla soup!!
    Trisha R.

I absolutely love this restaurant! It's a family owned taqueria, and I have been in there numerous times for their soup! The chicken authentic Mexican soup is by far my favorite! I like it so much, that they got to know me by name! They cater to my special order. (No onions, no tortillas, extra chips and add avocado!) love love love this place! It's definitely my go to!

This is got to be My Favorite Taqueria in downtown San Mateo.

This has got to be my favorite spot in downtown San Mateo!, Today they greeted me with a frosted glass, and I got a chance to sit down and enjoy my go to, an Al Pastor super burrito. But everything on the menu is amazing!

$3.50 per taco 4.45 Oz per taco Meat was well flavored and had the right amount of grease. The tortillas were correctly grilled and the salsa was delicious. Tacos don't get much better than this! Two others and I decided to embark on a taco trot through downtown San Mateo's taquerias to uncover the pinnacle of street taco perfection. We only judged the tacos and not any other amenities of the taqueria. We ventured from one taqueria to the next, leaving no stone unturned to find the ultimate street-style taco. Each of us had a distinct mission: one to evaluate carne asada, myself al pastor, and the third pollo tacos. Our rating system spanned meat, salsa, tortilla, overall quality, and value. We sampled our way through all nine downtown taquerias (excluding food trucks, grocery stores, and pupuserias). After tallying the scores, we reached a unanimous consensus on the top four contenders. These taquerias stood out for their commitment to delivering unparalleled street tacos. These are the only places in downtown to which we'd return: Charlie's, Los Primos #1, Al Vapor Nueva Italia, and Pancho Villa.

Four years later and still amazing service and food. As always I'm ordering for the office and it can get complicated but I don't think they've ever messed up an order. In fact they're so thoughtful and provide extra sauce, chips, and grilled onions. Thank you to the entire staff.

4/5 for sure, definitly recommend coming here. Reading the reviews I was a little mixed prior to our visit. Fair to note also, Google and signage says 9am, but the open at 10am. No big deal our wait was well worth it. I deconstructed my sons burritto when it arrived because it looked so huge. Most places you would unroll it and find mediocre amounts of mixed up blah. The presentation on all of these burrittos were spot on!!! They placed everything so it was in every bite and we might have well had asked for extra meat because they did NOT skimp out on that like most places. Everything tasted fresh, came to the table fast and the staff was very friendly. This is hands down the best rice that I have ever had!!! **Additional note, this would totally be a 5 star review if they had deep fried ice cream on their menu . This is always a go to for me at any Mexican food place.

I was super excited for their California burrito but honestly i was a bit disappointed. I ordered 2 to go, and got there 15 mins after the phone call, and the food wasn't ready, despite the person taking the order said 15-20 mins; I was okay waiting; but the wait turned to be 20+ mins at the restaurant too! The reason is, there was only one person in the kitchen making the food for everyone! I felt so bad for him, since they were so busy (had about 10-12 people in the restaurant). The ladies weren't too friendly, I wasn't sure why. Food: it was really oily, I could feel my arteries clotting (a bit dramatic, I know) seriously the oil was dropping from the burrito); I had a quarter of it and decided to toss the rest. Deducted one star for oily food. Their salsa was good, and so was their meat, but I think the service, with weight, nonchalant waiters, and feeling bad for one chef, combined with the oily burrito made the experience kind of dull. Deducted one star for service Parking: they do have a small parking at the corner and street parking too! It wasn't terrible finding a spot.

The enchilada special. I ate every.single.last.bite.

Visiting San Mateo and found this gem at lunchtime. Let me just say, I'm lucky I don't live here because if I did, I WOULD EAT HERE EVERY DAY. My gosh it is tasty. Freshly made everything. Fresh squeezed juices (you pick which two to combine!), super friendly staff. Pleasant, home-kitchen sort of ambience. I would just come here, eat my fill, and enjoy being in this environment. Must try, again and again....!

A shout out to @Paolo B for reminding me in his review that Taqueria Los Primos is open. I was craving a burrito and decided to go there. Liked - California burrito: loved the carne asada - carnitas burrito - fresh ingredients - cleanliness : everyone had masks and gloves - friendliness So so - chicken quesadilla: I've had better and bigger, kinda of skimpy on the cheese Overall a good take out with fresh ingredients and generally filling burritos. Chips and salsa and grilled onions hit the spot.

I love El Sinaloense for two things , ceviche and molcajete, which is a mixed grill type of Mexican dish named for the three footed volcanic rock vessel that it is cooked in. This was a molcajete day, despite the fact that I had no one to share the dish with. El Sinaloense has a couple of different versions, with a mix of seafood and meats, but the one I ordered today was their special with charred whole green onions, nuggets of tender roasted cactus ( nopals) as well as shrimp, chicken and shrimp. The molcajete sauce is what makes it special and cheese is added to the dish at the end. It is served with homemade corn and flour tortillas and a side ( very small portion relative to size of the main course, which easily feeds two or even three. That is correct, instead of a small portion of quality protein accompanied by a ton of beans and rice, El Sinaloense loads you up with the expensive, flavorful stuff, using the side plate as an accompaniment as it should be.. and BRAVO for that. At $30.95, for a shared entree this is such a cheap eat, especially when given the quality of the meat and shrimp. Today I sat outside and Mr Cesar took such good care of me. As an aside ( which I specialize in, mais of course ) it is worth noting that this lively establishment seems to be a World Cup mecca, for locals, with Happy Hour specials during games. Anyhow my molcajete arrived sizzling ( also worth nothing that this dish finishes cooking table-side due to it's vessel and is optimally consumed immediately because of the risk of overcooking as it sits. I made two gorgeous soft tacos, one steak and shrimp and one chicken and steak, each with a charred onion, lots of cactus and cheese and a small dollop of guacamole. They were filling and each ingredient sung. I will say that the steak had been rendered a tougher texture by the time I got to the second beautifully wrapped package. Taking my cue from this I opted to consume the rest if the shrimp, which were still perfectly cooked, rather than stuff another tortilla. Julius Cesar took care of bringing me a box for my considerable ( 2/3 of the molcajete contents) and an iced tea to go cup. Paying through the InKind app is seamless, just let your server know and in the case if this establishment, note the name of your server specifically. My points covered all but gratuity and my boys can stretch the leftovers with beans and cheese and make some killer nachos to watch World Cup tonight. 10 stars as a bang for buck- this cost me $7, but 4-+ because that 5th star is still elusive. That being said, I have never had anything but a stellar meal here and although today was a solo dining experience, El Sinaloense's atmosphere and drinks lend itself to a large group experience.

While photos of their SF location suggest some seeing, this OG location is pretty much pickup/delivery only: a fairly literal hole in the wall, located along a random quiet street. Most folks would probably opt to take home or eat at one of the "nearby" parks, but we've gotten in the habit of just eating in the car, which... not so great for something as messy as birria lol. I'll say that for most folks, this would probably easily be more a 4 star spot, while for us, it's more a 2 star since we're unlikely to come back. That's not to say the food was bad: on the contrary, the flavors were quite good, and the consomme was less salty than some of the others we've tried. But their food is HEAVY. Not just the birria itself, but also the burrito we got, and heavier than other places we've been for some reason, with the birria sitting in a pool of oil soon after we picked it up. This probably isn't a deterrent for most people though, so take this as you will. Accessibility: Not too relevant since this is really just a pickup spot, with the pickup window being at the usual height you'd find elsewhere.

It was very good, but the bottom of the shell gets really soggy so you can really just eat the top of the shell where it's still crispy.
