Sister Sister sushi was just ok
    ruth r.

Decided to try this place for the first time, but unfortunately, I wasn't impressed. We went on a Friday evening and were the only table there, so I expected the service to be quick and attentive but that wasn't the case. I ordered a mezcalita, and it didn't even come filled to the top. For a $17+ drink, I would expect better. It also tasted more like lemonade than anything else. I couldn't taste the alcohol at all and didn't feel anything from it. The sushi menu was also a bit frustrating since it only listed names without any descriptions. When we asked our server, she tried to explain but didn't seem very confident, which made it harder to decide. We ended up ordering the Sister Sister roll, which was just okay. For entrees, my friend had the enchiladas verdes and I ordered the fajitas. Both were decent, but nothing stood out or made a lasting impression. Overall, nothing wowed me enough to come back.

I've been on a quest to find good mole. I've tried almost every Mexican restaurant in the San Fernando Valley and everyone was mediocre at best. Then I found Encanto Mestizo. This place knows what they are doing! I ordered their chicken mole enchiladas and I'm now obsessed. They do something most places don't, the chicken inside the enchiladas is seasoned! No plain, unseasoned chicken meat. Then they smother them in their rich, thick, delicious mole sauce. I mean the flavor of the sauce is incredible. There's a tiny kick to the sauce, not too spicy, just enough to make them perfect. Oh, and there's tons of chicken in each enchilada. Very generous portion. I'm so happy to have found this gem, I can't wait to try other dishes. For now, I'm thrilled with their chicken mole enchiladas. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed. Oh and the customer service is amazing. Jessica is the best!

Encanto Mestizo is a new place in Sylmar with some great menu offerings. Inside looked like a mix between a late night lounge and daytime sports bar. Lots of TVs for when a game is on and dark low lighting for a more relaxed dinner. The branzino plate was very good and seasoned nicely. The chili relleno was good too. Served with arugula on top and a mild sauce. I prefer a little more heat on my sauce but it was delicious. We also split a Caesar salad which was a good size. They were still pending their liquor license but it looked like they have a bar built out when that happens. Service was ok. Our waitress was friendly and nice but our appetizer did not come out and our main entree was served first. Then she asked if we wanted it but we canceled it since it was the appetizer. They could offer more beverages selections too in my opinion. I think they are off to a good start and after some improvements this could be a great local spot.

Chile relleno with rice and beans

Came for dinner, first time. We couldn't tell if it was sushi or Mexican food, and then we realized it was both. It was a little confusing. I ordered a chile relleno plate, which is kind of my go-to. My husband ordered the Caldo de Rez. After a few minutes our server returned and said they didn't have any beef soup, so he changed his order to birria ramen. It took forever for our food to arrive, maybe 20 minutes. The soup looked really good and my husband was happy with the flavor. My chile relleno plate look super fancy, although there was watercress on top of the rice, which was weird. One bite of the chile relleno and I had to spit it out. It tasted like industrial chemicals, mixed with a metallic taste. It tasted toxic. I asked for something different and they offered me cheese enchiladas instead. It took about 20 minutes to get my corrected order. The enchiladas were ok, but the enchilada sauce didn't taste like regular enchilada sauce, more like a tomato sauce, but it was pleasant. The rice and beans were nice, although the rice was garnished with watercress which was different. After we finished eating we asked for our check which took another 15 minutes to receive. It was not a pleasant dining experience. I don't recommend eating there.

New spot in Sylmar, definitely worth checking out. Food was delicious and the staff were friendly and helpful! Will be coming back, they have a nice bar area as well. Definitely catching a dodger game here soon.

Today I visited this restaurant, and on Mondays they offer 50% off everything. It was definitely worth it. The décor was really nice, the service was great, and the food was excellent. I would absolutely go back again. It's a little hidden gem, and I wish Sylmar had more places like this. My suggestion would be to incorporate a salsa afternoon on a Sunday and add Caribbean-inspired sushi to the menu. If you need help, I can help you! I am of Puerto Rican decent and a great cook.

I really love their service and their food. It's always a good vibe I'm always coming here lol I still have couple more plates to try

Food was delicious. I ordered the chicken mole. I must say very impressed. We ordered margaritas also very good. As appetizers, we ordered the oysters. Definitely give this place a ten out of ten. Food, drinks and ambiance are great.

    Aguachile roll

The restaurant was hard to find based on the navigation link. However, once I got there, the stuff was friendly un approached me quickly, bringing over chips and salsa, and a cup of water. they gave me enough time to look over the menu and I made recommendations when I asked. It was a football day, so one side of the restaurant was packed with people having a great time and the other side was a bit more quiet, but everyone seemed to be having a great time and there was not the feeling of anyone being too loud. The food was good, especially the aguachile roll. It was flavorful and spicy. The sister sister roll was a little bit dry. The restaurant was clean and so was the bathroom even with several customers in the restaurant.

I'm so excited to have a fine dining option in Sylmar. The space is open and large enough to have live performances of they choose. Service was attentive but not annoying and the chef came out to check on us! Now the food: Salmon Crudo was my favorite, mango salsa balanced the salmon perfectly. Crispy octopus was a close second, marinated and fried, not rubbery at all. I think the cauliflower puree could have been replaced with some kind of chimichurri for a better pairing. Banana bread pudding was caramelized with rich vanilla ice cream and burnt sugar sauce. Definitely a meal you could get at Odyssey or Castaway!

I know they use no frozen green beans in the Black Pepper Chicken which is amazing. Whenever I call in to order a soup they have always been friendly and its waiting for me within 10min or less. Wonton Soup - Light, tasty. A bit heavy on the veggies but really good if you got a cold or want a light soup. Egg Drop Soup - Very light. Tasty and coincidentally not overly eggy. There is no meat in this soup just broth, egg ribbons and a frozen veggie mix but it works for this soup very well. Hot and Sour Soup - Delicious. I believe they use wood ear mushrooms in this soup. But this is quite flavorful and tasty. Jalapeno Chicken - Great dish. Savory, sweet and spicy. Id say the sauce its cooked in is a little sweet but it works. I wish they would cook the jalapeno a little more but this is a top dish here. This has zucchini, chicken, and jalapenos. Black Pepper Chicken - Amazing. My go to here. Fresh green beans, chicken in a peppery onion black sauce. Great flavors. Mushroom Chicken - Very light. Sauce is gravy like. Good amount of veggies in here in contrast to the chicken. But it works well especially over white rice or the rice noodles. Orange Chicken - Not a fan. This is soggy. Kind of overly sweet. ChopSpoon is great too when there is an item that is low or looking kind of old. They will cook up a new batch within minutes.

Staff was just as friendly as before, and the place still has that lived-in, homey charm. I ordered a pair of tacos: BBQ Beef and Crispy Shrimp. Both come with shredded cabbage, sliced jalapeños, cilantro and a creamy, mayo-based sauce. The shrimp taco worked perfectly, with a crispy, tasty coating giving way to plump, fresh shrimp. The sauce melded into the cabbage, almost making a slaw you might get on a po' boy, and the peppers added a nice heat. I added a squeeze of fresh lemon, and that rounded things out nicely. It was a great bite of seafood. The BBQ Beef was less successful. The mayo and an extra dollop of chipotle mayo were too much for the small taco, and overtook the flavor of the beef. The beef had a nice flavor, but was a bit too dry, and had been chopped a bit too finely -- I would have liked larger pieces to really enjoy the flavor. In fact, others were eating the BBQ Beef plate, and the beef there looked far more appealing. So, I'm not discouraged. I'll come back for the full plate treatment, and see how things stack up. I still think this is a great place that deserves your attention and support. Good people.

That side is named Kusina Ni Kuya and has a vast catering menu. I came here for a carry out from the Cajun side and picked as I did before, the half pound shrimp. The only difference is this time, I opted for the peeled version. This was prepared in the house Kuya sauce, medium spicy, with an extra of boiled okra. The dish did not disappoint and was consistent in texture and flavor, and a glorious mixture of spices as before. This entrée has a lot of oil added to it, but that is what brings out this burst of taste and satisfaction. Everything was soaked with the thick sauce. This time what I did at home was, I boiled a few golden premium small potatoes with skin, sliced them into quarters and added it to the mix. Once it soaked up the gravy of the shrimp dish, the potatoes ascended to a totally different level. So how does the peeled version compare to the whole shrimp version? I would say that the whole shrimp selection is the way to go. The meat is not overcooked and you get the flavor off the shrimp shells too, that kicks it up more than a notch. In addition, the fact that you have to use your fingers to get to the shrimp meat (though messy), heightens the pleasure of the dining experience.
