Incredible breakfast gorditas. This is a must stop and will stop personally everything i go by

I really like this location. It's kind of hidden behind Winco that shares a parking lot. If you enjoy authentic Mexican food this is the place. There were some dirty tables - perhaps it was from the lunch rush? But when I was there it was not busy at all around 1pm. My go-to here is the flautas! The rice and beans are really good too. I like my rice pretty simple with flavor and not other ingredients like corn or peas how some Mexican rice is cooked.

4 bucks a piece and they're literally two bites big.

Use to be my fave place but they've gotten greedy. Smaller portions and more expensive. Food quality has gone down too

I'm a huge fan of the original Mayhill location and a frequent visitor of the other University location. So when I hear there will be *another* Taqueria Monterrey built where I frequently shop, I say bring it on! Of course, since this location is partially hidden, I didn't even realize it had been built yet, much less open for a week, by the time I discovered it. They are at the back of the Winco, on the right side. Another business is being built next door. They have a small lot that seemed like plenty of room at the time, but if they ever reach the popularity of the original location, it will not be enough in my opinion. As of our visit, Saturday June 22, 2019, they have dark tinted windows and no neon open sign. We only stopped because there were a few cars outside and they had flutter flags- one said Grand Opening and the other said Now Open. The employees I met were nice, though clearly new. Considering they have been open a week, I think they did a good job overall. When we arrived there were quite a few tables seated and eating with plenty of available tables and booths. There were several people waiting on to go orders that were served by the time we got settled with our drinks and plasticware. Our food came out fairly quickly, well under 10 minutes. That's a great job for a new staff. Though they knew to ask about flour or corn tortillas, they did not ask about many of the typical customizations that are automatically asked at the other locations. They did not bring either red or green sauce to the table, but those are located in the cooler and accessible by customers. They were a bit slow to answer questions about offerings not listed on the menu above the register (doesn't list drinks, desserts or all a la carte items). I think they are still waiting on the printed take out menus. All of these things are expected and acceptable minor differences that work themselves out with experience. No worries here! The food we ordered was very good, just as I would expect from any Taqueria Monterrey location. Prices are reasonable and portions are large. It's challenging not to overorder. They offer fountain drinks, bottled/canned drinks in their cooler as well as a small amount of premade desserts like cheesecake and arroz con leche. They have six agua frescas ($2.25- $3.50) and seemed to be doing a promotion for their grand opening. While you get decent agua frescas in the regular white, Styrofoam cups at the other locations, they were dressing it up here. They offered clear cups (stick with the medium, they aren't sturdy and you may pop off the lid on a large) where you can see the bright colors and top them off with colorful umbrellas. The Tamarindo was on par and the melon was very fresh and enjoyable! I noticed some minor differences. All three of the jalapeno peppers served with meals varied in size and appearance. Normally they are firm, these were quite floppy. I don't usually eat them as I am a wimp, but my husband made no mention of a difference in taste between the two he chopped up. The asada gorditas my husband ordered were tasty. He could only eat two and took one home, which was still good cold. The gorditas here are thick and hold up well to the yummy filling. It's a good portion for $7.50. The asada torta ($6.99) I got was delicious, though slightly thinner than I am used to at the Mayhill location. All the ingredients were good quality and complimented each other, including the avocado which was the perfect texture and amount for the torta. My asada was well seasoned and I only came across one chunk of fat in my foodventure. The bread had that perfect, homey soft texture. Unless you're starving, I think this is something you can split between two people. It tastes fine as leftovers, but much better right after it's been made. Taqueria Monterrey does the best barbacoa in town, so I excitedly ordered a barbacoa taco for $1.75. This tasted good, but it was extremely, extremely greasy. I drained it several times and still got way too much grease- not great. I would expect this to work itself out over time, I'll wait a while and try it again. In the meantime, bring the Tums. It also came with way too much cilantro. I will request the onions and cilantro on the side going forward. Though I am a huge fan of the asada torta, I think I'll get a taco plate next time with a mix of meats to see how they are progressing. For this early on, they are doing a fantastic job. Many new locations struggle and I see nothing out of the ordinary to be worried about here. They open at 8am everyday until 10pm (11pm on Fridays and Saturdays) so if you find yourself running errands in Rayzor Ranch, check them out! If you are wanting perfection, go to the Mayhill location, but I would expect them to be running at that same level in a couple of months tops. They are off to a solid start!

Having been to the Mayhill location, I was excited to find that they had opened a location just down the parking area from the hotel I am staying in. I considered walking but opted not to just in case I encountered any issues and had to abort my planned visit. I now wish I had walked because I truly over ate! When I first pulled up, I admittedly thought they were closed. It's in an awkward spot in the strip mall and parking is kind of off to the side. There weren't any cars out front, no neon open sign and I didn't notice anyone in the dining area. I did however notice their open hours on the door and was excited to see that I was within those hours. I entered a really clean restaurant. It was unfortunately dead inside. Something I was surprised to see having been to the other location and knowing how good this place is. A young man met me at the register and offered to take my order. He did ask if I had been here before and offered suggestions as well as offered to explain the menu to me. I was happy to see the aqua frescas at this location too. The rest of the menu seemed to be the same as well. If you've ever been to this place, you would know that the offerings is extensive! And could be a bit overwhelming. I ordered my usual, tacos al pastor with beans and rice. My order came quickly. He did offer sauces to me which he quickly brought to my table as well. My aqua Fresca (I chose a LARGE pineapple) did come in the usual styrofoam cup which I was happy for since a large is really big and will last me all night and probably into the morning. The food was really good. The al pastor was a bit greasy but I really find that If it's not, it just doesn't taste the same. I eat this meal as a treat and know that it's not a healthy treat so I'm good with it. Beans and rice were good but after eating all three tacos, I really couldn't get more than a taste of each down. Overall, a fantastic experience with really good food. I really hope that they can hang on until more patrons begin coming to this location. I think it is a great spot for them.

Taco plate- 1 chicken and 2 carne asada. Came withgreen and red salsa, grilled onions, pepper and seasoned potato. SO GOOD!

First time coming here and this place is 10/10. Cooked to order, staff is friendly and rest was very clean. Portion size was also great for the price!

Doordashed due to COVID, just as delicious as eating there in the restaurant. Bistek and ceviche did not disappoint!

If you like the real deal Mexican street taco food this is the place! I've never been here before but will be back. Excellent food. Kind of hidden on the west side of Winco but worth it.

Everything we ordered was delicious. The guacamole tasted super fresh, the queso was flavorful and came in a generous portion, and the salsa had just the right amount of kick without being too spicy. The only small hiccup was the chips situation--they give you big portions of guac, queso, and salsa, but the chips come in a tiny bowl. (Literally 10 chips) very sad for 6 people to fight over so little of chips. Not a huge deal, just a bit surprising. We also tried the margaritas--they had great flavor, though they tasted absent of tequila. Overall, we really enjoyed it and would definitely go back...maybe next time we bring our own chips! :)

If I could give La Fondita Mexican Restaurant six stars, I would legally change the rating system…read morejust to make it happen. Let me set the scene: I walked in expecting a casual meal and maybe a decent taco. What I got instead was a borderline spiritual awakening wrapped in foil and served with rice and beans. First of all -- the giant piña colada. When they say giant, they are not messing around. This thing arrived like it had its own gravitational pull. I'm pretty sure I saw a small family of tourists orbiting it. One sip and I was transported to a beach that doesn't even exist on any map -- coconutty, icy perfection with just enough kick to make me briefly consider texting my boss that I've moved to an island and won't be returning. Then came the beans. Listen carefully: I don't throw this word around lightly -- perfect. These beans were so good I genuinely paused mid-bite and just stared into the middle distance reevaluating my entire life. Creamy, rich, seasoned like someone's abuela whispered ancient secrets into the pot. I would trust these beans with my taxes, my passwords, and honestly my emotional well-being. And the corn tortillas... dear lord, the corn tortillas. I have had tortillas in many places, including at my own abuela's table -- and saying this feels like confessing a sin -- but these might be the best I've ever had besides abuela's. Warm, soft, slightly charred in all the right places, like they were handmade by someone who has been perfecting this craft since before I was born and possibly before electricity was invented. If I could build a house out of these tortillas, I would. I would live there. Happily. And then--just when I thought things couldn't escalate further--the huevos rancheros arrived. Eggs cooked to that perfect sweet spot where the yolk still has a little rebellion left in it, laid over a bed of everything that matters, all tied together with a sauce that refuses to be anything less than unforgettable. It's the kind of breakfast that makes you question why you ever settle for anything less in life. Comforting, bold, and somehow both rustic and wildly impressive at the same time. Everything else on the plate? Outstanding. Rice that actually deserves to be eaten and not just politely ignored. Salsa that sneaks up on you like, "oh this is nice--OH okay there it is." Service? Friendly, fast, and somehow emotionally supportive. Atmosphere? The kind of place where you immediately feel like a regular even if it's your first time. Final verdict: If you are anywhere within a 50-mile radius of Denton and you are not eating at La Fondita Mexican Restaurant, you are making a series of deeply questionable life choices. I came in hungry. I left changed.

We started things off right with chips, jalapeño ranch dip, and queso, which is honestly the only proper way to begin a Chuy's visit. The queso was warm, creamy, and exactly what my soul needed, and the chips with that jalapeño ranch were the cherry on top. Speaking of cherries, we also got the Tito's cherry limeade, and it was the spring we didn't know we needed to bounce. Crisp, cold, a little dangerous in the cutest way, and honestly adorable -- the perfect little kick to start the meal. Our waiter was top notch: kind, attentive, and somehow always there right when we needed something without ever hovering. That kind of service makes the whole experience feel easy and enjoyable. For food, we ordered the Baja shrimp tacos, and when I say the shrimp is BIG, I mean it (and no, we're definitely not out here flattering any men ). The shrimp was cooked perfectly, flavorful, and absolutely the star of the plate. They came with rice and beans, and even though I forgot to ask for the cilantro lime rice , I was still super happy with everything. We also got the steak fajita Tex-Mex burrito bowl, and every single bite just kept getting better. The steak was tender, packed with flavor, and once it all got mixed together with the salsa and scooped up on the crispy tostada, it was perfection. This meal was such a good reminder of why Chuy's became a favorite for me in the first place -- fun atmosphere, great food, amazing service, and one of those dinners that just hits from the first chip to the last bite.
