Chicken Burrito

Well we read the Yelp reviews so we gave it a try. We had a chicken burrito and it was just ok. We opted for the extra charge of guacamole and felt it wasn't worth it. We asked for whole pinto beans but it sure seemed like refried beans.

Classic Mexican taqueria with good food, fast service, loud music, very well decorated and fuss free. Yummm

Recommended, will be back, and the food was great! Sopes just might be my favorite Mexican dish, so I ordered the Sopes plate with carne asada, hot chocolate because it's been extremely chilly as of late, and a strawberry margarita. Hot and cold drinks together are the best of both worlds. It could be snowing outside and I'd still get a cold beverage. Love the clay mugs the hot chocolate came in. It kept hot while I focused on my marg. I thought I'd be able to body my plate because i was so hungry, but I ended up taking a sope home for leftovers, which was just as delicious the next day. Something really nice happened here. Apparently my margarita tasted too much like lime to who I assume is the owner, and he came by my table with another margarita on the house. That was thoughtful and something my friend and I really appreciated because who doesn't like a free drink? But seriously, it's the customer service behind serving something up to a standard that one feels confident in that really stood out. This looks like a popular spot. There were a couple people inside when I arrived, and several pick up orders. I love this area, or rather this small strip of restaurants and other stores along Solano Avenue.

Ahogada Torta

Talavera is a great Mexican restaurant located on Solano Ave. It gets busy during certain hours but fortunately there is plenty of seating both inside and outside of the restaurant. The simple process of ordering the food at the register, taking a number, and the time to prepare the food is fast. All the food the kitchen made looked amazing. I ordered: Ahogada Torta: this is a pulled pork torta covered in a delicious rojo or red sauce, topped with avocado, onions, and jalapeños. Delicious and satisfying. Can't wait to go back to try some of the other delicious offerings

We were looking for a half way point to meet a friend for dinner and landed on Taqueria Talavera as our destination, because who doesn't love Mexican food? This is a casual and small restaurant that also has outdoor seating for warm summer evenings... which this year are a mythical event. So we ate inside. diners place orders with the cashier, and grab a number to take to their selected table. Some tables are by the open kitchen so you can watch the chefs work their magic! We ordered the Talavera Nachos with black beans and a side of the most delicious guac to share. Nachos were layered with the good stuff so every chip had something on it. Yum! Friend ordered the three taco plate with both beef options and one chorizo. Husband ordered the shrimp taco, and I had the "custom" plate and selected the pork carnitas and two chicken tacos--this came with rice and beans--I chose refried beans. I split this plate with my husband. Everything we had was slammin' good! Carnitas were well seasoned, crunchy bits on the edges and juicy otherwise, with just enough succulent fat. I tasted the chicken from a taco, and it was moist and flavorful--but hubby ate the tacos. Our friend devoured her tacos and loved each one. The shrimp taco looked and smelled amazing, and I was too full to get a taste, so have to trust it was as good as my husband said it was. Only downfall was it fell apart when he tried to eat it like a taco, and ended up using a fork--but who really cares about that?! We also had a Mexican hot chocolate and Mexican mocha, which were yummy. We looked at the breakfast menu and will be back soon -- maybe today-- to try some of the delights! I might add, although small, this place does some business! Lots of take out orders. Sorry for the pics -- forgot to take them before we swooped in!

Mole Burrito Mole "Best Mole In 40 Years" (East Bay Express)

Taqueria Talavera was good! I'm a burrito person and decided to try a different type of burrito instead of my regular carne asada. I decided to go with the specialty Mole burrito and it was spicy and flavorful, I was shocked how good it was. They had music playing also, so while you wait for your food you can could enjoy the music. The service was fast and efficient although I showed up close to closing time, I would for sure eat here again.

Found this spot while taking a walk and decided to grab a quick bite! Ordered some conchas, a chile relleno plate, chicken enchiladas with salsa verde, and a horchata latte. Chile relleno plate was okay! Definitely filling however it wasn't MY favorite.. I definitely enjoyed my boyfriend's chicken enchiladas a lot better. Horchata latte was a little too grainy for my liking, and conchas were actually great! For sure coming back for breakfast to try their chilaquiles and other drinks next time! Workers were very kind and helpful :)

Platanos with black beans (sour cream on the side)

Really amazing platanos (plantains) and excellent tacos de papa (potato tacos). You can order the platanos as a side or a dish with black beans (and sour cream). When I'm in Berkeley, I try to at least stop off for side of platanos. Many Mexican restaurants are getting on-board the potato taco train, and I couldn't be happier. Fried hard shell with a mash of potatoes inside and cabbage, crema and pico de gallo on top. Yummmmm! Once you order, there are a good number of spots inside. If it's nice out, there's plenty of outdoor seating. They bring your food to the table once it's ready.

This place sent me to Mexico upon arriving .Love the Spanish tile floor, and the ambiance was amazing ! The girl at the front was so cheerful with a. Beautiful smile and so sweet .I ordered a taco and a pineapple lime aqua Fresca ! This was a simple small Order but I loved both of them .The taco had grilled onions and had so much flavor in the meat .The pineapple Aqua Fresca was served in a glass jar with pieces of fruit .Overall ,amazing and I'm Coming back!

Looking for a new taqueria in the East Bay? Taqueria Talavera on Solano Ave. fills any craving! Quick and friendly service (order at register), fresh ingredients, vibrant atmosphere, seating indoor/outdoors, parking, delicious food for affordable value and filling portions! Not only do they have a breakfast menu and celebrate Taco Tuesday, but offer an eclectic variety of options including a few of my personal favorites: chicken fajitas, torta or the quesadilla with any meat, wet burrito, and of course, their guac & chips. They also have a special menu for the kiddos, veggie options, refreshing agua frescas, beer, wine/sangria, and have beautifully made desserts..the chocolate flan, chef's kiss!

I called them and they asked me to come back for a replacement. It took about five minutes, and they were very kind about it. I still feel that way, but recently I reserved a table for 4 and two things really stuck in my mind negatively after spending the evening there that wanted to alert the restaurant to. I worked in restaurants for 15 years so I know not every day is your best, and that getting things right is the first priority, not schmoozing, so this isn't about friendliness. The server was fine in terms of checking up on us, but didn't engage our request for recommendations for dinner or wine; no biggie, but when the check came she a) didn't mention that the tip was included, and my generous boyfriend (who wanted to snag the card and pay quickly without letting others get a chance) would have tipped another $80 had I not gotten up from the table and asked whether tip was included. On large checks the server should tell the group immediately not to worry about calculating the tip, and still act like she is earning it by taking good care of the table, refilling wine glasses when we ordered a bottle, etc. what really got me though was when we requested -- she didn't offer-- the remaining food on the table to go, she came with two piles of boxes and put them on the edge of the table. Again, my no-fuss boyfriend said he didn't mind packing the food up, but I think if you spend $450 on a dinner they could at least offer to neatly pack the food to go. It's a chore that I want to leave at home, plus it can be messy. It annoyed me a lot that the money we spent didn't seem to be appreciated and we had to basically clean up our table at the end. Not a good service night. Can you make it a policy to at least offer to pack the food? Comal isn't that type of pandemic restaurant that drops customer service in favor of pretend hygiene, and I just wonder if the standards are slipping or it was just a one off
