Possibly the best menudo in the area! Only served on the weekend, but it's always fresh and it's really good! Tacos "al pastor" red sauce are very good as well! I was not allowed to order my choice of combined meats in my burrito, even after offering to pay extra. The waitress tried to convince me that there's beef already in the al pastor meat. Unreal, it is pork only. There are alot of fillers in the burrito and light on meat. Lettuce, tomato, cheese, rice and beans take up most of the room. Decent flavors though. But I will not pay $8.50 for a Joliet subpar burrito ever again. $24.75 for two burritos and two medium tamarindo juices and the paid chips. We must have been charged for lime and carrots too. Our 2am Steak Tacos were fresh and incredibly delicious! For only $1.50 they will add rice and beans that was terrific as well. We carried out, but the restaurant interior was cool and clean. Came by for tacos tonight. I come by here maybe a couple times a year because they have a really good menu and there tacos are delicious. They also make some really good Mexicans beer cocktails. The only thing that still boggles me and won't understand is why they don't want to take debit cards here. They rather have a Atm inside there business then just to make it easier and more convenient to pay. This was a place I've wanted to try for a loooooong time, but I could find NOONE that had eaten here. Usually I wait for a few opinions before I try a place, but that wasn't happening so I just took a chance after reading it's numerous great reviews. Very authentic feel being on the far East side of Joliet. I'm pretty sure that at least 50% of the patrons eating there when I stopped by spoke little to no english. Which is a great sign that the food will be authentic obviously! I ordered food to go and the food came out fast. Cost was very, very affordable. I ordered the following tacos: al pastor, carne asada, birria (goat), Lengua (tongue). I also ordered a side of the grilled scallions (amazeballs). I was super impressed with the size and quality of the tacos and ingredients. The sauces were a little hot, but I am a super gringo and any heat makes me sweat. I was craving taco's today, and randomly driving around to find a place new to me to try. After about 30 mins I wound up at Atontonilco. (I thought my boyfriend was going to kill me cuz he kept crying about having to pee, but I wasn't hearing any of that nonsense. I wanted a damn taco!! He can eat Taco Bell, but I can't even do it. I wasn't too sure what the heck to do when I walked in, and thank goodness someone came up to help me. He totally had the personality of a dial tone though. I ordered one taco de lengua, and one Barbacoa. My total was almost 6 bucks which kinda threw me for a loop because tacos shouldn't cost that much. I could've just found a taco truck, or random restaurant within a mile that has dollar tacos! Hello this is Lil' Mexico over here!! I can't say enough good things about this place. Not only does it have some of the best tacos I've ever had, but it's also clean, fast and friendly. This is not a taco joint for those of you who just "love el burrito loco" and think that place is "authentic." This is the real deal for people who love fresh corn tortillas, meat cut off a spit, and loads of spice and flavor. The tacos are usually $2 to $2.50 and I can eat three if I'm starving, otherwise two is enough for me! The tacos are jam packed with fresh and fabulously flavored meat. I highly suggest the signature Atoto Nilco taco (an overflow of steak, tomatoes, and sour cream) or the Al Pastor (pork and beef cut right off the spit with a super spicy red sauce) The have great shakes, and fresh juice as well--but I'm a big fan of the horchata!! The tortas are pretty good too, but I go here for the tacos. The milanesa has been sub par every time we've tried it which sucks, but doesn't ruin my experience. I have to say too--that the busier this place gets--the faster your food seems to come out. No complaints from me. read more

I've had good tacos. I've had great tacos. I've had Taco Bell. This place makes everyone look like complete amateurs. They don't bother with crappy chips and salsa. They don't bother with gimicky decor. Simple, fresh ingredients, KILLER tortillas, and very welcoming, hospitable service. My only complaint is that it's cash-only and you pay at the counter - which led to me forgetting to tip my waiter. To solve that problem, I'm going back tomorrow in order to double-tip him. Rarely does a place hit a particular dish with perfection. This place does. I go to a lot of Mexican restaurants for lunch in this area, but this just blows the others away. Some peers suggested I stop by here for lunch for the Tacos al Pastor. And let me tell you, they are (seriously, honestly, on my troth) the best tacos I have ever had. I think about them when I am not with them. They are that good. There's no need to waste any hot sauce on it. Last time we came here they gave the person I came with a taco to sample since she only ordered a cheese quesadilla and, knowing I was a vegetarian, they wanted at least one of us to try their meat. I thought that was really sweet and she loved whatever they fed her. The only downside? No chips, salsa, or guacamole? I just picked up 2 asada tacos and a can of Coca Cola. Not only the meat was dry but the price was ridiculously high. $3.50 for a dry taco and $1.35 for a can of soda. A place with years of reputation in the Chicagoland and suburbs is charging high prices to the community that made them what they've become how sad. They probably pay $.20 cents for a can of soda and they sell it for $1.35 and the tacos are so small not even a regular size tortilla for $3.50 with only "asada" cebolla and cilantro for a totally of $9.16 WOW. Stopped in on our cross country drive after reading about this on Yelp. The restaurant was clean, fast, and delicious. The carrot salad they give each table at the beginning of the meal was spicy and refreshing. The al pasteur tacos were incredible and the service was great. This summer I had the tacos as a late night snack at a wedding reception from a food truck based from this location, recently was talking with someone who recommended the tacos as the best in Joliet, they are. My wife and I split 4 tacos; chicken, pork, chorizo and fish. All were really good. The fish was mild which allowed the taste of fish to cone through. The chicken and pork were well seasoned and took the house salsa nicely, a green salsa with good heat. The chorizo had a little texture and was the most seasoned. We also had some carrots marinated (pickled?) is a spicy sauce, very nice! This place is worth the trip and even better if you run into their food truck. read more

When this place was opened across the street from the local Mexican grocery store el Ranchito, you could assume that the food would be fresh and in plentiful supply. My wife, daughter and I visited after our shopping trip and were blown away by the authentic taste and extremely well-prepared tortas, soups, and especially the al Pastor prepared pork. The owner was in the store and a sat down with us for a brief conversation and his recommendation on what to eat based on our "amateur" knowledge of anything outside of tacos and burritos. He was dead on about what we would like and we were very impressed. The service is fast, professional, and well presented as waiters and waitresses do their utmost to create a pleasant experience. Great balance between checking on how we were doing (every time we've gone) and leaving us to our own conversation. While service was fast, we never felt like the goal was table turnover. This Atotonilco is nothing compared to the one in Chicago. With that being said, their pastor tastes undercooked. The steak tacos are a hit or miss. Either they're good or burnt. This is the 3rd time ordering horchata from them and it tastes spoiled. The prices have gone up significantly due to the pandemic but the quality has gone down as well. I honestly would not recommend this place because they charge for every little item and do not rectify the order when it's wrong. FYI when using a credit card there is also a service fee. read more

Been going here for years, then they started messing up orders. So they forgot my limes once, it's limes not a big deal, then they forgot my rice and beans for two dinners. After I drive home open the bag. I called they say Ok they'll take care of it next time I said ok, I said it might be a while until I come back, he said ok. I call in two weeks later place my order which is for a family of 6, which its always a family of 6. Not a small order ever, it's a large order, pushing 60-70 dollars every time. Place the order and remind them multiple times that You have to comp me the beans and rice for two dinners, the lady on the phone says sure, manager grabs the phone and says it's to late. I tell the guy, the guy you guys told me I can do this, or I would have came back that night. He says it's to late again. I tell him this isn't a comp I paid for those items. He said sorry too late. I said cancel the order you lost a customer for life. He didn't even try. So over all poor customer service, and just bad management l. I'm mean really small amount of rice and beans which you make for pennies cost you hundreds if not thousands over the time period of a year. Let me say - I'm from DF, so I was thrilled I saw the pastor on the trompo. The place is clean, and nice, plus you get the pickled carrots and the limes when you sit. No credit cards, which is a mistake. I was on business travel, I would have doubled my order. Also disappointing that they don't have a soda fountain. Not a fan of canned soda.
