It's rather difficult, if not almost impossible, to find delicious, authentic Japanese cuisine in the Treasure Valley. This small food cart is an Idaho gem. I've tried several of their food items, however this review will focus on their namesake dish, takoyaki (octopus ball). For those who don't know, takoyaki is a popular Japanese street food with bits of chopped octopus and dough inside a slightly crispy shell garnished with takoyaki sauce. I was very happy with how similar the snack tastes to the ones I've had in Japan. Genki serves these in 6 pieces ($6) and there are several sauces available. I like to top mine with sriracha to add a kick. It's a wonderful mid evening snack! My only complaint is on a couple visits I found my takoyaki to be rather old tasting, like either the oil hadn't been changed in a while or the octopus was overdue. It's happened less times than more so I'll still continue to eat this unless it becomes more frequent. Genki use to be very active on the Street Food Finder app but this summer they seem to limit their postings to Facebook and Instagram, so if you want to find them you'll have to go either of those routes.

I arrived about 15 minutes early, so they weren't quite ready with my order, but they were preparing it. I liked that you could specify a time for pickup. That was handy in coming there from work. We ordered sopes, pozole (only available on Thursdays and Fridays), along with a dozen tamales, split between pork, chicken and cheese and jalapeños. We at the sopes tonight and they were excellent. They were topped with a generous amount of meat and vegetables. I also had a couple of spoonfuls of posole and it was also very good. While many restaurants use white hominy, they had yellow, which I think has a more pronounced flavor. The women who operate the shop are friendly and take lots of pride in their work. It's wonderful to see the small business succeed.

The sandwich was great; a good amount of tender and slow-smoked pork, dressed in a sweet sauce on a sufficient bun...no frills. This place had a typical spread of BBQ stands including ribs and chicken, and maintained the standard sides of beans, slaw, and homemade "mac and cheez". Prices were fair, not super cheap like a taco-truck-taco, but affordable and typical for a BBQ joint. In summary, the food is great and worth stopping by, and the friendly service made for a nice lunchtime experience.

Prices are the somewhat standard $1/taco, and of course, they have burritos, tortas, and a variety of other traveling taco truck fare.

This is an enigmatic little airstream trailer permanently grounded in an empty lot near a liquidation outlet in the middle of State St. They serve coffee and a few food items. I had a latte and the pup hot dog. The treatment is a bit noveau, linguica sausage in a grilled kaiser roll garnished with deli mustard, asparagus, and sauerkraut. It's served with chips and a fortune cookie, how cool is that? The espresso drink was just average. Overal, however, good and cheap. The place itself is a little weird, its not sure if its a drive through or a walk up, and besides standing under the torn up shade structure astride the trailer, there's no place to actually sit down and eat, but there's plenty of parking if you want to eat in your car.
