A small but very professional saline where you really do get 1:1 attention. I would have loved to try out TAR but it was extremely difficult to book an appointment. It was so rare to have someone answer the phone or return voicemail messages. When someone did return my call they were booked for pretty much the entire month. Ironically, they are closed Sundays and Mondays....so don't expect a call back until Tuesday! read more

Got a facial by Sara and a massage by Sandy. I got escorted by to the massage room with no introduction, just instructions to undress and put my clothes in the basket. Sara was not friendly at all, did not seem at all interested in building a relationship with her clients. She also scratched up my cheek with the pore cleaner during facial. Also paid for a 60 min facial and she finished early at 50min (clock was in view). And chocolate mask and tea bags on the eyes smells terrible together! Linens on massage table did not smell fresh. Light went out during massage. Massage was actually good and masseuse was nice but was often distracted by the masseuse trying to move her stool around the table complaining that the room is small. And the noise from people walking loudly outside of the room and next door was a noisy family with kids walking up stairs carrying groceries. Would never return. read more

I had a wonderful afternoon at the spa with my two daughters. I enjoyed my birthday massage and facial given by Faith and the owner, Debbie. I thought they were professional, friendly and excellent time managers to juggle service for three with only two of them. Honest Facts- Massage was the best I've had in a long time! Don't remember the woman's name but she sported a short haircut like a Halle Berry or Anita Baker :) Nevertheless excellent! Facial- second experience now that I think about it but the tool used was a tad painful but it was followed by several masks and scrubs. I bought a groupon for a 60 minute Swedish massage here. After reading some reviews, I really didn't know what to expect, but I figured I'd just check it out. I went at 6PM am on a weekday and found the ambiance to be very dark and gloomy, Maybe they are shooting for calming, but in my opinion, it's look like you have something to hide. The one that give me a Swedish message (forget her name) is basically giving me fingertip message. Short me for 10 minutes, since she have to change the sheet and everything. And I believe it was Sandy(?) who give me facial, that rough me up. No one should do facial that rough. She just put product on my with out even explaining what did she put on me. Oh TAR, you have the potential to be great, but you just don't follow through. Great location. Right on Haddon Ave. Signage is decent, parking is available on the street. But when you go inside, the decor is cluttered and haphazard. Not very relaxing. And there's rarely anyone else in there, which is disconcerting, shouldn't a salon be busy? The women that work there aren't very friendly or welcoming. The decor in the massage room is cluttered and off-putting. The giant painting of a football player is ... Well ... Odd. And, personally, it made me uncomfortable that the massage room is right off the main space with only a door with glass panels between me and the rest of the world. Sure, there's a curtain over the glass, but it made me feel exposed rather than protected. The saving grace is the guy that actually gives the massages. He's nice, if a little chatty for my taste, and does a good job. It's unfortunate that the customer service is so lacking that even with a groupon, it's just not worth going here. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. The massage I got from Jeremy was AMAZING. They have good deals on groupon. However, the place was a little dirty--stained seating area, hair on the floor when there were no customers. The decor is interesting--doesn't feel like an uptight spa. They only take cash, which wasn't said on their website. I literally had to go to an ATM several blocks away, which is sort of crappy. Apparently, the owner/receptionist like disappeared or something during the massage. A customer came in and literally knocked on the door during my message because there wasn't anyone there. She had a nail appt apparently with the owner at 3:15 and it was now 3:45. Jeremy was all like, "I don't know about that." Plus, there's like a naked person 3 feet from here ladybird. Don't waste your time or money. It took days to get through on the phone to make an appointment, then was told it was months before the next available massage appointment. Made the appointment even thought it seemed fishy from the start. Perhaps the limited availability was because I told them I was redeeming a Groupon, but alas I digress from the main issue that I had. The floor of the massage studio was FILTHY. Tumble weeds of hair and layers of what I can only describe as scum and dust. Not exactly relaxing to be staring at a disgustingly dirty floor while you are laying on a massage table and have nowhere else to look. If the floors are that dirty, I shudder to think if the sheets or other parts of the salon were clean and sanitary. Upon checkout, was told I owed a $3 tax. I have never experienced having to pay taxes while redeeming a Groupon, but I guess there is a first time for everything I suppose. She seemed to get more grumpy when i told her I as using a gift certificate from Groupon. However, the massage I received from Desiree, was nice. I upped for the deep tissue massage ($20) and have cash for the tip. She was sweet and professional. The one concern I have was using my credit card. There is no machine and no receipt. I called and left messages for a week before I got a call back. They were not able to accommodate me for the facial and massage on same day and wanted me to come on separate days. When I said no, they agreed to "squeeze me in" for both services. I had to wait over 5 weeks for an appointment and frankly was concerned about the quality of the service since I was being squeezed in. Due to an emergency, I tried to cancel the appointment for the massage but keep the facial. I was told no, it was all or nothing. I found this salon to be less than helpful and unwilling to please the customer. I would not recommend this place based on the poor customer service. So I'm upping them a star from what I was originally going to give them because the owner was super accommodating to my awful attitude. My friend and I got a living social deal for a mani/pedi, facial, and massage, and when we first went in (with an appt) the scheduling was just terrible - took way longer than it should have due to other people going in ahead of one of us, one of us waiting half an hour, etc. The owner made it up to us by rescheduling us and giving us an extra service for our trouble. Bought a groupon for a 60 minute massage for $35 (originally $70) which is the only reason I came here. I wasn't expecting anything spectacular but what I got was far below mediocre. The massage therapist did not communicate much at all and seemed as though she had somewhere better to be the whole time. There was absolutely no effort applied and I walked out of there just wanting a real massage more then before I had gone in there! The only saving grace was I only paid $35. I have gotten 2 massages and a facial at TAR via Groupon. Faith has massaged me both times and I love how relaxed I feel after she's done. If you want a deep tissue massage to really get in there, go somewhere else, because Faith is so gentle and soothing. I also got an Express Facial from Debra- I loved the products she used and she didn't try to sell me on any skincare products I'm too cheap to buy anyway. So I went to TAR because of a living social deal for a massage and manicure so I can't comment on their hair services. I arrived and I live in Philly and was headed home to see my parents and I really had to go to the bathroom but alas it was behind a closed door where the massages were taking place. When you come for a massage or any service that could potentially take a while there should really be a bathroom that's accessible. So that was my first feeling of meh. I was taken a little late because there is only one massage room so there was really no time built in for the person to get off the table, dress, and etc. Again, okay I can handle that. The massuese was very nice and when I got up to the massage room it was litterally just a room up like 3 stairs where you could still hear EVERYTHING that was going in the salon including obnoxious children screaming that their mother couldn't control because she was getting her hair done. The sheet I had to lay on was stained at the top and it was cold but I wasn't offered a blanket or a space heater. The decor is awful, the painting was of a football team. Oh and it was relatively bright in there; the window covering was not doing its job. The masseuse was amazing but the rest of the experience was just incredibly awful. I just keep seeing deals posted again and again on groupon and living social and I felt the need to warn everyone that even for $30 the massage so is not worth the lack of relaxation or comfort I felt. The deal also offered a manicure which was terrible. The girl thought she was the bees knees and she really didn't do a great job. I had to go home and fix the edges. There is no massage chair you just sit and she does them. I only had the option of like 20 colors which was terrible. She said if you wanted a pedicure she'd have to break out a big bowl and just soak your feet. Totally just unprofessional and unpleasant experience. read more

I had a really poor experience with TAR - I wonder how they even stay in business. I purchased a groupon for a massage/facial. I called and left a message and received a prompt call back to schedule the appointment. I was looking to find a new hair salon, too so I asked to schedule a haircut and eyebrow wax during the same appointment. Given that I can only make weekend/evening appointments, we scheduled for 7pm on evening almost 4 weeks later. I'm used to receiving confirmation calls from salons/spas but I didn't receive one. I contacted them the day of the appointment and left a voicemail asking to confirm the appointment but I never got a call back. I was alarmed that the voicemail recording said they closed at 8pm - how would they do a haircut, wax, facial and 60 minute massage in one hour? I arrived at the salon 5-10 minutes before my appointment time and the door was locked and I couldn't see anyone inside. I was about to get back into my car to leave when someone came out to flag me down. Kathy was the masseuse said I was only scheduled for a 1 hour massage - no one else was in the salon that night. She apologized and said she would have the owner call me the next day to schedule a time to return for the facial and haircut/wax. I stayed for the massage - Kathy is great - very friendly. The massage was okay - not the best, not the worst I've had but she worked to get the knots out of my neck which was wonderful. Sadly, the room made it difficult to relax... it was cluttered (big sports paintings, pile of laundry on the floor, the only chair was piled with stuff, etc.), the music was too loud, and the lights were too bright. The worst part - I bought the groupon for the massage/facial and 4 days later, I still never received a call back from the salon to schedule the facial. I had to call groupon and ask for a refund. I do not even know where to begin. The secretary, who is also the owner, has the worst disposition on the planet. Not only is she rude but I don't think she has taken one course on how to run a business in her life. For example, try calling to make an appointment maybe you'll get through to actually talking to someone after your 12th try. Once you finally get through you get the "pleasure" of talking to her...not! Then she tells you unless you want an appointment in about a month all the calling you have been doing was a waste of your time, yeah this makes you want to go there right? And lets not even discuss trying to change you appointment. I called and asked if she had any openings the day before my scheduled appointment stating that I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make it to the one I had, obviously I left a message since no one answers the phone. Before calling me to confirm or cancel this so called business owner cancels my appointment and gives my appointment to another customer. Then when she finally returns my call tells me that she did all this and has the audacity to ask me if I want to schedule another appointment. After all this it is no surprise to me that the only service she gets is the customers who get the 75% off deals from Living Social because paying full price for this type of service is out of the question. Also I would like to state that her employees are very sincere, sweet, and talented. I feel that if they ran the salon it would be better off and people would actually want to go there. read more

I was given a Groupon deal as a gift for a massage, trying to make an appointment was challenging since no one seems to answer the phone, after playing phone tag several times I finally was able to get an appointment, the person I spoke to was rude especially when I mentioned I had a Groupon deal. She scheduled me for 8pm since that was the only time available before the deal expired, when I arrived at the salon I was told my appointment was for 7pm, if that was the case why didn't anyone call me to find out where I was... I will NOT be going back to this salon! I had purchased a living social deal for me and my friend. When I called to make the appointments, the woman I spoke to told me I should arrive a half hour before the appointment since neither of us had ever been to the salon before. She said, in a very rude tone, that she doesn't know who would have told us that and we should come back closer to our appointment time. My friend and I left and returned at our appointment time. The staff at this establishment was not at all friendly or welcoming. I had a pretty terrible experience here on Saturday. My mom and I went to the salon on the LivingSocial/ Groupon deal for 2 facials, 2 massages, a mani and a pedi each. So far, sounds good. Overall, the decor was pleasant enough. One of the massage rooms had a door that seemed to lead directly outside. Needless to say, the massage room was pretty cold. The only bathroom was also in my massage room, which was nice enough for me but would probably be really inconvenient. FACIAL: I don't know what the woman put on my skin, but she managed to get it too close to my eyes. When I protested that it burned, her response was to tell me I looked fine, rub my face as hard as she could with a damp towel, and scowl at me when I asked her to stop rubbing it. She claimed I had rosacea, that all of my skin products were wrong, and that she didn't know how I could use them given that her vegan products had irritated me so badly. She then gave up on my facial entirely and left the room. She never checked back in on me or apologized. She then told my mom I had rosacea (I am a grown woman) and whined to her that my skin was too sensitive. MASSAGE: My masseuse had just given an hour massage and seemed tired by the time she got to me. She admitted to leaving knots in my neck because she "didn't want to hurt me" and was more interested in bragging about her upcoming vacation than giving me an actual massage. It was not remotely relaxing, and again, the room was very cold. MANI: This was fine, except it was chipped within an hour of me leaving. My mother has already removed her manicure. PEDI: I don't know what happened, but three of my nails are already bare. TL,DR: Huge waste of money. I do not believe I will return, and neither will my mother. My husband bought me the massage/facial groupon. Went in half expecting a terrible experience from previous reviews and got the very opposite. Sure, this isn't your typical salon/spa. But I consider that a good thing. Instead of feeling like I was in a stuck up place where I didn't belong (I've felt that way many times at spas), I felt really comfortable and welcomed by the staff...more like a Steel Magnolias kind of place. The owner is more of the free spirit type, which was really cool to me. The facial was very nice and Deb explained what she was doing with each step and didn't make me feel bad about my skin regimen or try to sell me anything...which has happened with every other facial I've ever had. I got a massage from Faith and I have to say...it was the best massage in the world! I was fighting off sleep the entire time I was just so relaxed. I agree that the space may not be ideal being underneath a noisy apartment and next to busy Casona. But I have to say, I was so impressed with the services that I barely even noticed any of that. The decor is unusual, but that's ok by me, and judging by previous reviews, it appears that the place has been decluttered. I also didn't see a giant sports painting anywhere. Went here on a Groupon and had the worst massage I've ever had. The girl was very nice but she a) never looked at my history sheet that they have you fill out b) didn't put a cover on the face rest (I had to ask for something) and c) she asked what was bothering me and I said low back/neck and shoulder and she never massaged my low back or my neck and d) granted, I like a harder massage but this was so light that it didn't even feel therapeutic. I question if she is licensed or has had real training or if someone just "showed her a sequence" Again, she is a very nice girl but I do not think that massage is her calling. As for the place, in the waiting room there was a bucket with dirty water lying on the floor under a foot rest (disgusting-looked like there was dead skin floating in it) and in the massage room! as you lay your head in the headrest on the massage table ALL you see is dust and hair on the floor--really gross read more

Reviews....I would say that for Groupon and Living Social Deals, there should be somewhat of a scale to the review. Sometimes, the people reviewing the deals are crazy high in expectations...which is okay, but maybe try to tailor the feedback knowing you got a deal and not like it's the Four Seasons and you're Lady Gaga. I've been a client here for years, and Collingswood is a retro hipster area...Supporting local artists is great. I've primarily come for hair and it's the best, they carry great products and Debra is up on all the cuts color etc. I agree that it can be crowded and confused at times. I highly recommend Debra for hair, she is amazing and you will get the best best best color and cut out there.....at a great price. I would also say for the price of the Groupons, Living Social deals...you get a massage at a great price. However, everything has it's cost and you take your chances. Booking a week in advance was a tad problematic but they worked w. me to accommodate my needs. It seems that they are a small and possibly lightly staffed spa/salon that experienced a boom in business due to living social & groupon deals - such as the one I was redeeming - and they are struggling a bit to keep up w. the demand. But with a little patience you'll see that they're trying their best to work it out. I have to say they answered the phone on the first try so I did not have an issue there. My voucher was for a Swedish massage & a manicure. B/c of my timing the owner was VERY accommodating & offered to split up my deal if necessary despite it stating that was not allowed. In the end the owner offered to stay past closing after my massage to do my manicure (I was in a wedding the next day & needed the manicure same day or before). My massage was VERY relaxing -my only complaint was that you could hear the noises from the apartment above (or behind?) and that was distracting. But the masseuse (sorry, forgot her name!) did a great job at working out my knots. The manicure was above average for a basic manicure and the polish lasted longer than it usually does for me (I brought my own polish so I can't say much about their selection). As far as the decor & vibe of the place - it's definitely small and a bit hodge podge in its design, but I get the feeling that's partly due to space limitations & partly on purpose. The owner supports a lot of local artists, many of which stopped by after hours to hang some pieces and chat. Rumor has it they're eyeing up a bigger location in Collingswood for early next year. Hopefully once that happens they'll be able to meet the demands of the clientele a little better. But for now I'd definitely return and would make sure to allow plenty of time when booking. I had an awesome massage here. I too had a groupon for a 60 min massage and a manicure for $28! Such a steal. I read a review on here about no one answering the phone so I was a little nervous I wasted my money but I left a message and got a call back the next morning about setting up an appointment. So when you call, LEAVE A MESSAGE. The messages are forwarded to the owner's cell so she will call back when she is done with her client. The owner is awesome and so friendly. The groupons are such a good price, hundreds were sold so make sure you make you dont wait until it expires! I booked my massage 2-3 weeks ahead of time. My manicure was great. Debra is very nice and personable. She actually asked me to model hair/makeup at one of her parties she hosts at the salon. (She does awesome makeup by the way) I had no complaints about the massage. It was very relaxing and felt great. It was a man but I can't remember his name. He was very good at what he does though! My roommate just went and had a girl who seemed very rushed and she was not too happy about it. I guess it just depends on which massage therapist you get. The service itself was also very poor. I have had several massages and this was by far the worst. The salon is noisy and the masseuse had very weak hands. I asked for more pressure to be applied though to no avail. The experience was essentially an oil rub down. The owner of the salon was unfriendly and I overheard her bad mouthing other clients to the woman whose hair she was cutting while I waited for my appointment to start.
