I went to Tara yesterday (Saturday night) after craving pizza all week, & I was not disappointed!. The pizza was absolutely amazing. The crust was perfect in every way (I am so picky when it comes to pizza, but this was seriously perfect), & the cheese + sauce complemented it well. When we went in to order, we were told it would take 15 mins, but it ended up taking 30 mins. I would usually expect a pizza to take 30 mins & wasn't bothered, but it seemed as the night went on that their estimates for other orders were drastically off. They appeared to be very short-staffed based on the amount of customers they were getting, & I did note a handful of customers walking out/being rude to the staff. I just ordered a veggie wrap with cheese, which comes with cheese whether your veggies are grilled or fresh. I ordered through Foodler. My order came with no cheese so I called the restaurant. The person who answered the phone spoke to me less than 10 minutes, called it 20, did not know his own menu, told me I should have asked for cheese if I wanted it, despite his own menu description. Refused to make it right, saying he would "comp" me cheese next time I ordered that wrap at the same price. I am not stupid. He offered to sell me the correctly made wrap at regular price! I don't know who Tara and their shady staff think they are fooling. Know your menu folks. You don't have to order redundant items on foods that come as is. Most restaurants appreciate no modifications. Tara was rude to me, exaggerated everything including efforts to make this right, which was none. I called Foodler. They speak and read English and read the Tara menu item and saw exactly what I was talking about. Look it up yourself. Veggie wraps come with cheese, not a side of sass, or rudeness or mumbling unintelligible words in other languages at me while I am on the phone. I heard enough and got enough attitude directly to know he was talking to and about me. Foodler did what Tara ought to have, which is compensate me for the error. The wrap was about $8 and I got a tortilla with veggies slammed in. Not worth $3. Charged $17 for that and a smoothy. I am vegetarian with serious intake issues, and can't afford skipped nutrients. This restaurant is run by jerks, in my experience, from the phone call I made tonight. I would not allow them to make me a glass of water much less cook for me. I got $10 in credit from Foodler for Tara's total lack of integrity and incompetence and lack of knowledge of their own menu. I am taking my business elsewhere permanently and if you want good food made by happy people who love what they do, have integrity and stand by their work, follow suit. Tara is a waste of money, time and will serve a belly full of empty promises, heartache and a headache. They simply do not care about their customers, and certainly not this disabled one. They do not care about the food they serve or that they carelessly bilked me out of good money and treated me like a low-class citizen, effectively stealing my money for false advertising they admit they created. Stopped in here for an empanada after seeing that they offer them on the windows of this place. When I walked in, service was a little bit busy doing restaurant stuff, which is not unimportant, but it did feel a little like they hadn't even noticed I walked in. Got their attention, and asked what kind of empanadas they have, and ordered a beef empanada. They heated it up, (they are made in house from the looks of it) and then I proceeded to dig in. The empanada was rather small, but for less than two bucks this is not a significant issue... or rather wouldn't have been if some things had gone differently... The filling was not devoid of flavor, it was devoid of beef though. I agree that the filling shouldn't be pure beef, and the fact that there was some onion there is good, but there was too little beef in there. Also, for the small size of the empanada, the dough was a bit thick. Service was a bit gruff, but not rude. Restaurant was clean. Yes, unfortunately, I've experienced better... I think the people who hate on this place are ordering ridiculous speciality pizzas and focusing too much on the service. I think you have to adjust your expectations when ordering from this kind of place. Once you do that, you'll find that the food is dope. As long as you're not tryna order some shrimp pizza. If you're ordering takeout, you should really just care about accuracy and timing. If someone is a bit curt with you on a phone order on a Friday night and you find this to be appallingly bad service, I'm not sure you understand what it's like to operate a takeout/delivery pizza restaurant on a weekend. I'm unlikely to get more than a smile from these folks, but I've learned to accept that, and I can really appreciate the food more because of it. This is just the best pizza in Waltham. Period. The crust is so SO good. The sauce isn't too sweet like it is at Prospect, and it's super cheap and comes in three sizes! Stick to the basics here. They've really perfected those. If you go for something nobody but you ever orders, you can't expect it to be perfect. Not at this price point. I've never had a bad food experience. I've been ordering on-and-off for the last 8 or 9 years, and have now found myself living right across the street again. We also ordered the shrimp and scallop lugini with Alfredo sauce still interrupting continued the last thing I ordered was the cheesy bread I told her cheesy bread and she goes ok garlic bread you want cheese at this point I said I just told you cheesy bread geeze!!! She read back the order and told me 35 to 45 minutes till delievery and slammed the phone down. At 8:45 almost an hour after I called to order I called back no food and we are only a block or two away they said it's on the way. Waiting game continued to about 9:15 I called back very mad telling them my food still hadn't arrived and if my food was cold I would be sending it back and not paying for it until we got it fresh the guy told me he would call the driver and call me right back well next thing I know he's here with semi hot food at this point I'm just like whatever 45 dollars later we are ready to eat not to mention no call back! The pasta was way overcooked same with the shrimp and scallops the alfredo tasted almost spoiled and the pizza was way over cooked with little cheese or toppings so not worth the 45 dollars the only thing that was semi ok was the cheesy garlic bread. I walked in here today after living down the street all year, and now I am sad at how much of this food I've missed out on by only discovering them today! I got a beef empanada, a chicken parm sub, and 2 cans of coke for under 13 dollars. And the empanada was the most delicious one I ever had, they put in Kalamata olives which are my favorite, so Italian, and the dipping sauce is unique like none I have tried, with fresh herbs. (I have seen some negative reviews for the empanadas but I think people were not expecting ITALIAN ones, they truly are delicious.) The sub was great - lots of chicken. I'm from New York so I have naturally high expectations for pizza. I expect a flavorful crust which is crunchy but not stale or hard, sauce that is both sweet and savory, and plenty of cheese. Tara delivers on the sauce and cheese but the crust is seriously disappointing. It is hard at best, and if you order a slice you'll most likely get one that tastes like it has been sitting around too long. Delivery/takeout pies are noticeably better, and I'd highly recommend ordering a freshly made pie over slices. The first time my boyfriend and I ordered Tara we got a specialty pie with slices of tomato, chicken and basil (pizza margherita with chicken, basically). The basil was not fresh, the tomatoes were flavorless and the chicken was just gross. I generally hate chicken on pizza, though, so I may be biased on that one. I returned to Tara one night out of desperate hunger and a lack of cash (Tara's main draw for me was that they took debit cards online). I ordered a cheese pie for delivery, and it was a pleasant surprise. The sauce was the best I've had in the Boston area. I've found that most restaurants make their sauce far too sweet for my tastes, but Tara's has the great balance I mentioned earlier. The crust was quite thing but needed more crunch. The cheese was average. Overall, the pizza satisfied my craving nicely. Tara's is also a great place to go when you're a broke and hungry college student walking down Moody Street. Slices are $1.75 and their other menu items are also well priced. My boyfriend is particularly partial to their empanadas with hot sauce. Two of them make a good lunch and only cost $1.50 each. If you're ordering from Tara's make sure you do the following: 1) Stay away from toppings for the most part. The pepperoni is acceptable but the chicken is just nasty. 2) Order ahead and have them make a fresh pie for you. Their crust does not age well. 3) Try the empanadas! Edit: I've decided that whoever Tara is has become my new mother. I eat there far too often. Update: Since Tara has become my new spot I've found that their calzones are incredible. They're basically just a pizza folded in half with a lot of delicious meat (I like the chicken parm and the steak) served with their awesome marinara sauce. One easily feeds two people. Also, their toasted ravioli is yum and exactly what you'd expect and their mozzarella sticks are the only disappointing item on the menu. They aren't made with seasoned breadcrumbs and instead taste like they've just been coated in flour. I'm sure they're not homemade but I've had better mozz sticks out of a box from the grocery store. I've ordered for delivery a few times now and they are really quick and they are the only people who seem to understand how to enter my apartment code into the keypad. They were TERRIBLE. I ate one, it was so spicy and greasy I spit it out. And obviously they didn't give us any blue cheese. And to top it off all the food was cold. DON'T EAT HERE. I had a horrible experience. I ordered for delivery, asking for two different sandwiches. They completely messed up both sandwiches. We had to walk all the way back to have them exchanged. I was put on hold, and forgotten about. I had to recall the restaurant three times before I could get an answer that they wanted us to come back and the sandwiches would be re-made when we returned to the restaurant. When we viewed the sandwiches, one order had been fixed with the correct toppings, but it had a giant hair in the center. The other order had not been changed whatsoever. The exact same mistake. He said it was $16.xx. I laughed and told him I got YOUR menu pulled up and it says $10.20. He calls some lady (maybe The Godmother....) and the guy hands me the phone so she can tell me the pizza is $10.20 plus $2.50 each topping. Where THEIR menu says $7.95 for a cheese, $10.20 for a 2 topping. The driver agreed when I showed him the price and kept shaking his head "yup, you are right" So I told the guy he can take the $20 and give me $5 back or take the pie back to this slimey business (and i use that term loosely) He took the $20 and gave me a $5 and went on his way. No gripe with the driver besides the pizza being tipped sideways...actually...I got a problem with that too. This is my 1st review. Only signed up to let other people know about this place. I like the pizza here, The crust is soft and chewy the sauce is good, I never find it to be greasy. Toppings are good - peppers, onions, pepperoni, mushrooms and Hawaian have all been good. We found them because they are open all the time - late night holidays, etc.. Counter service is all business, no manners, but that's ok. I have not deviated from the pizza menu, but it does not look all that exciting. Looks like they are closed this week - due to tax evasion (11/14/13) and I stopped going to Upper Crust for that same reason - wages and taxes issues. Compared to other higher-priced alternatives in town, and especially on Moody Street, they serve a pretty tasty, and inexpensive selection, of pies, most notably a Hawaiian variety. Ingredients are generally fresh, although not anything special or noteworthy. Customer service is a bit spotty, but largely OK. The menu is pretty substantial, which means just about anyone can find something to enjoy there. It's convenient and pretty standard, as far as pizza places go, and while that might not lead to a listing in a fine dining magazine, it's oftimes just what someone working late, or who just has the munchies needs. I love Tara's cheese steak sandwich. They pile on the onions and the steak is flavorful. As stupid as this may sound, for me, they rank up there with Pat's and Geno's (which I've tried while in Philly). I also like their chicken wings on rice and chicken empanadas. While it's a pizza place, I'm not that huge a fan. I like Upper Crust (across the street) better. The ambiance of Tara is also quite amusing. Retro, not by design, just plain old, well, old. The staff is friendly and entertaining to watch as you wait for your food. And like most of the earlier reviews, I like this place because it's a bit nostalgic. Lomitos es delicioso ... the description of the food doesn't really do it justice. On the board, it's described as "boiled pork (or chicken) in a bun with some avocado spread". It really should be "the most tender, flavorful, Latin-version of a better-than-your-best-pulled-pork-sandwich creation" that can be eaten on the run! I drove while eating it last night and I'm glad I wasn't pulled over for driving while distracted from eating it! The empanadas weren't as great for me, but I think that's because I don't really like beef, hard boiled eggs, raisins and other things inside a pouch-like bread pocket thing. I also don't really like calzones... so I think it's more of the concept of bread pouches with filling that I don't really like. This place was very disappointing. I ordered here on a Friday night because it was the only place opened late. I used GrubHub and payed via PayPal. I wish I hadn't done that. I ordered the food and had to call them an hour and 20 min later to find out where the food was as I was falling asleep. The guy told me the food was on it's way. It arrived another 35 minutes later and the only reason why I found out it was here was because the guy woke me up on my cell phone to tell me he was downstairs. So onto the food ... I ordered a small pepperoni and green pepper pizza. They should mention that its really only for one person. It was super bite size. And a side of french fries. The pizza was greasy and I mean GREASY. The pepperonis were not tasty at all. The french fries were soggy, greasy and tasted like they'd been friend in oil that was used to fry just about everything else this night. Anyway there are some good reviews on here so maybe they do things right sometimes. Either way consistency is important. I will not be ordering from here again. This is a basic looking pizzeria but has the added bonus of homemade chilean specialties. We love their empanadas! They offer a variety of options - including beef, chilcken, cheese and ham, and more - and the hot sauce is killer and delicious. I've also ordered the chacarero sandwich, which was tasty. Many a night I have strolled by this little cafe and contemplated taking the culinary leap into the unknown (I mean...who knows what you're going to get when you see lettering on the window that reads; "Burritos, Pizza, Cappuccino"). They were patient while I perused the extensive (...really, "Pizza & More" definitely says it) menu. 1) I peered over the counter at tiny little pasty pockets and asked, "what are these?" The owner replies with a smile, "Empanadas! Spinach, cheese, chicken, or beef?" ....I wanted one of each (and at 1.75 a pop, I could have plucked up the whole tray). After being heated in the oven, my little puff pockets were brought over to me and: YUM! The spinach had a little bit of pepper and cheese (delicious), and the cheese empanada was like biting into a little piece of ooey-gooey cheese heaven in my mouth. 2) For good measure, I picked up a slice of cheese for the road. Thin slice with just enough cheese (not dripping with grease) and the crust was tasty. A great choice for a fast and cheap (1.50$ per slice) slice in Watch City; but I'm still a fan of Upper Crust across the way. Appears to be a typical pizzeria at first glance - equiped with pizza slices and mediocre subs. Look a little closer and you will find the secondary menu -Chilean food - chacaceros - empanadas - some great little soups. The service can be a little slow, but the food is always served hot and the prices cannot be beat. If you are lucky, you might even catch the older lady that works there bullying and bossing the staff around - supremely entertaining. Don't give her guff or she will get on your case too! read more

I've heard a lot of things about the Tara from some of my neighbors, so I went in to check it out. I don't order whole pizzas by myself, so I got two slices of cheese to check out their game. I have to say I was underwhelmed based on what I'd heard, but I wasn't upset either. As slice pizza goes, it was meh. What I did discover, however, was that the salads were excellent, and they're not even on the (huge) menu! I got the chicken salad salad, and I have to give it a big thumbs up. Service was friendly enough, and the menu was diverse and intriguing... apparently they serve Amer-Italian food, Mexican food, and some South American specialities... not to mention they have a cooler of ice cream bars. And to sweeten the deal, they're open really late... I think to 12AM. For Moody Street, that's exceptional. I'll be back to explore more, but I'm not doing the pizza again unless I go there with someone else and we split a pie.
