Feels like a neighborhood place, which is impressive, as down-the-block Mario's has had that draw and more for years. Really delicious food -- lemony beet-goat cheese salad, fresh cavatelli with just-thick-enough sauce, chicken scarpiello featuring perfectly cooked (i.e., not dry) chicken and perfectly spiced peppers. We were too full for dessert. The noise level was high. Not only was there a very loud person sitting next to us whose every word we could hear, but the general decibel level is higher than we like. We came here with another couple for dinner and all of us were in awe of how delicious the food was! The servers were friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was cozy, the restaurant was full at 6:30! Reservations are recommended. My friend and I ordered a bottle of delicious Evening Land Pinot Noir. Her husband had a Westport Mule and loved it so much he had 2 more. We all had an appetizer: I had the Ahi Tuna tartare (FANTASTIC!); my husband had the prosciutto & melon (from the specials menu), my friend had a salad, and my other friend had the tomato and mozzarella salad. All of us enjoyed (and finished) our appetizers. For dinner, I ordered the Brasato Tartufato (seared shrimp and scallops with mushrooms in a white wine and truffle oil sauce). This dish was also accompanied with a fennel cake and sautéed broccoli. My friend ordered the same dish. It was unbelievably delicious! What made it so good was the truffle sauce and that wonderful fennel cake! We were raving about it and gave our husbands a taste and they thought it was fantastic as well. It was a unique taste and we wished we had more! My husband had the Fettuccine Alla Bolognese. The fettuccine was homemade and the sauce was fabulous! My friend had the Pesce Spada Ubriaco (swordfish with fresh herbs in a Prosecco sauce). He loved it! All of us enjoyed our entrees thoroughly. We did not have too much room for dessert, but we ordered three to share anyway! We felt since everything was so good, we can make room to taste dessert here. Good thing we did or else we would have missed out on some incredible sweets! We ordered Creme Brulee, Tartufo and pistachio and vanilla Gelato. I can't say enough how delicious each was! If you are looking for a consistent and high quality Italian restaurant to frequent in the Fairfield county area, then this is your place. I have never had a bad meal here and my meal last night was just out of this world. We had fresh, crisp salads to start- so good we didn't talk to each other once throughout that course. My mother got the shrimp and scallops dish and I swear I saw her eyes roll to the back of her head once because it was so dang good. I got spaghetti carbonara and it was just divine. Thats a dish that's so easy to mess up if you don't keep a close eye on it while cooking but this was spot on carbonara, I was very pleased. Waitstaff is extremely friendly and truly values their customers, if you people watch or pay close attention to their interactions for just a minute with any customer, it sounds like that person had been coming to Tarantino's for years and years. As the night goes on, and the drinks keep being served, of course it gets kind of loud but that is to be expected in any smallish restaurant! Would definitely recommend making reservations if you're looking to have dinner here on the weekend with a party larger than two. Such a enjoyable place to have lunch! I'm sure it is great for dinner too but I haven't been recently so can't say for sure. It is not crowded at lunch - can't possibly understand why there aren't more people. Their lunch menu is lovely - an appetizer and an entree for $15 with a really nice selection of each so everyone can find something to please. In addition, they have a red or white house wine for $6 a glass. Salads are lightly dressed which I appreciate. If you like a heavier hand, ask for more dressing. I've had both the trout and another fish special (sole?) at least four times and it is always delicious. I've also had RAGOUT DI MELANZANE E GAMBERI - which is a bit like ratatouille with olives with grilled shrimp - a great dish and look forward to having it again. Last time I was there the person with me had the POLLO AL BALSAMICO which looked fabulous. I don't eat chicken but it looked and smelled wonderful. So to summarize - delicious food attractively plated, always hot, served by very personable and attentive servers - you can't ask for more. In fact, I'm going again this week! read more

I came here for lunch last Friday. The service was fine and the food was great. The lunch menu is affordable and a good deal. You get an appetizer (I had the caesar salad which was the best I've ever had) and an entree for $15. I had the chicken parm, which was also great. Also select wines are $6. Great family run business that never disappoints and always dotes over its clientele. We have been coming here for years and have been treated like family. Food is great, service, impeccable...great Brooklyn bread that accompanies a superior olive oil perfectly and fantastic homemade pasta that never misses. Sweet cockled clams are exceptional and never taste bad-swordfish is great tasting and always cooked to point. Not copious amounts by any means but extremely satisfying and fulfilling. They offer a great lunch deal for appetizer and main course at $15 a person. Skip out on the dessert and coffee and venture over to saugatuck sweets to satisfy those sugar tastebuds. Tarantino's is definitely worth a try and convenient parking by westport's Metronorth. If you miss your family, come here-they treat you like you want to be treated! You want to talk about an ideal way to celebrate T-Giving? Turkey, trots and Tinder. It's totally the best holiday to rekindle flames and get into arguments with Uncle Milk. That guy, what a killer of buzzes. He's always bringing around his "best bud" Keenan. They go out to the garage rip butts and chug beers while the whole fam is inside eating cheese and meat plates. So awks. As a kid I never wanted to be the one to take out the trash because Uncle Milk would always ask if I've seen the latest P-Boy. Thought he was so cool coming up with nicknames. Yes, I'd seen the latest Playboy, and don't need to look through it with you while Keenan gets cig ashes all over the pages. Gross. T-Giving was always an intense time of year. Everyone would always over do it, and I mean EVERYONE. Usually we spent the day at Aunt Loretta and Uncle Belvin's. Nobody called him Uncle Belvin. He went by B-Dog. Apparently it was a college nickname. He played competitive racquetball, which is cool, but I feel like everyone who places racquetball is named Tod, Allen, Pintrest, and Vance and works for the accounting firm Tod, Allen, Pintrest and Vance. Anyway, B-Dog would always bring out his old racket, and ask if anyone wanted to "tame the dog." I guess that was code for, "who wants to play racquetball?" No one ever went. Uncle Belvin would disappear for three hours and come back as we were sitting down to eat and always be real sweaty. Finally, one year when I was old enough my parents suggested I go; thought it might be fun for us to bond. Man, were they wrong. We get in the car - now mind you I was 12, and when you are 12 you are like 83% with it - he's acting all weird like I've never seen before. He starts mumbling under his breath something like, "No one ever comes, no one is supposed to come." He takes a deep breath, then says, "Phillip, I have something to tell you, but you have to keep it between us. The B-Dog and the P-Dog." I remember being excited because I felt like I was part of the inner circle. He says, "I don't play racquetball. I go to competitive eating contests. It's the Thanksgiving dinner special event." I thought that sounded awesome. I watched the Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest every July 4th, so I was super pumped. The only problem was that Uncle Belvin didn't compete. He was the mascot. He wore a giant, saggy, dirty turkey costume, danced around the stage the whole time and people threw turkey legs at him. It was truly fucking weird, but he loved it. I remember him yelling, "Suck my giblets," and the crowd went freaking nuts. He came back after the competition all greasy and sweaty. He looked at me and said, "Our family would never understand." I mean, hell, I didn't understand, but whatever, it was our thing. This year was different. Told the entire family I had the trots and couldn't travel. How many years in a row can you eat dry turkey and chunks of dry bread with sausage? Plus, my family is just older and weirder now. Uncle Belvin still does the turkey mascot thing. He's 70. My one cousin has a girlfriend who he met online who lives in Japan. They've never met. They say they have, but Skype doesn't count. My parents are chill, but they are all stressed over the election and Uncle Russ voted for the T-word so things are real dicey right now. So I just chilled at my placed and cruised Tinder. I met this one babe who was with her fam in Connecticut. I extended the radius on Tinder, figured why not? The trains were still running, and I had nowhere to be, might as well go across state lines for a Tinder date. She was doing family stuff so we decided to meet Saturday night. The train ride to CT was way longer than I thought, plus you can get beers in Grand Central, so I got in pretty bombed. Luckily our restaurant was near the train station so I didn't have to go far. Called an Uber, I basically told the driver anything could happen so keep the meter running and wait outside. I get to 'Tinos and the place was poppin'. I get there, and it was like I'd been going there forever. My babe came, and we sat at the bar for what seemed like FOREVER. The wine kept flowing. We ate pasta together like in that dog movie about the rich dog and the poor dog. Next thing I know, my babe leans in for a kiss and THE REST OF THE DETAILS ARE NOT FOR YOU, GET YOUR OWN LIFE! I woke up the next morning, in my apartment, no clue how I got there. Best I could piece together was through my text messages. Seems like my Uber driver brought me home. Had a text, "Yo man, what a night. You my idol. Devan, your Uber driver." Oh, and apparently, I never met up with my Tinder date. I had messages from her saying she couldn't find me. No clue who I made out with. It's Thanksgiving, life's short, life large. Oh, and by the way, 'Tinos was bomb. I must have had two plates of homemade pasta, the grilled squid, and wine for days. Tarantino does it right! I am a frequent diner in the Fairfield, New Haven and NYC area. This restaurant never fails to impress. This was my second visit and I brought the family for my birthday. They make you feel at home from the minute you make a reservation until your finished with your dining experience. The waiters cater to your every need without hesitation and with a smile. The food is nothing short of excellent! Fresh ingredients and a talented chef seem to be the ticket here. The owner, greeting patrons and making sure everyone is taken care was also noticed. I'm not sure how they manage the crowd and the diners so well without ever feeling rushed , but it speaks for their experience in the business. I visited Tarantino's a few weeks ago on a Saturday night. A friend told me that the outside dining space they created as a result of COVID was very nice and that they did very well in terms of wearing masks and keeping patrons safe. I arrived and found their outside dining atmosphere to be really great! But -- during my meal, I noticed several gentleman at a near by table getting up and down and visiting other tables to say hello. I also noticed them walking in and out of the restaurant pretty often. What struck me was that these gentleman WERE NOT WEARING MASKS, and no one said anything to them. I told my server what I observed. It was mentioned to me that the gentleman at the table who were not wearing masks when they were walking around are from the Tarantino family, i.e., they owned the restaurant. My server told me that she understood how I felt, but she said nothing to the gentleman. I mentioned it to another employee who also told me that he understood, but there was nothing he could do because they were the family who owns the restaurant. Needless to say, I found their fear of these gentleman to be very telling. On my way out, I stopped at the table and expressed to the eldest gentleman (probably late 70s-ish) that when I visit his restaurant and wear a mask, like I'm required to do, Im respecting him and his patrons. But when he doesn't wear a mask, he is disrespecting the rules, me, and his patrons. The eldest Tarantino responded to my explanation with "Are you sick," to which I replied "Its not your business if Im sick." I continued to let him know that he should not be walking around without a mask and that I felt uncomfortable being there as a result. He responded with "Sit down," to which I replied "Dont tell me to sit down." He then responded with "Are you a pu**y?" And it went on from there. My point - that eldest Tarantino has no customer service, doesnt care about his patrons, and has no respect. He could care less about creating a safe atmosphere for patrons. They (the entire staff) obviously has no regard for the wellbeing of their patrons if they're not willing to let the the family know that they have to follow mask wearing rules. I will never be back to Tarantinos and I will let everyone know that it is not a safe place to eat during this time. read more

The menu is not particularly creative. Basically, they offer up standard Italian restaurant fare. At the same time what they do have is well prepared and presented. Tarantino is our "go to" restaurant. Consistent, excellent food and wonderful service. Owners and general manager are always on scene! I must have eaten here at least 20 times and have never had a bad meal. The veal chop Milanese with salad on top rivals the one I ate in a highly rated restaurant in Milan. As perhaps younger and less affluent than some of the other patrons at Tarantino's, I always go during happy hour to grab a drink (or two) and an appetizer (or two) off of the happy hour menu. The meatballs and calamari are excellent, as are the caprese salad and fried oysters. Beatriz, the usual bartender, will make you a delicious cocktail regardless of what you order. Her mojitos and espresso martinis are some of the best I've had--and I've had many. As far as the crowd goes it's what you would expect (and hope for as a restaurant owner) for the price and atmosphere. Couples, a few families, and a collection of people off the train predominate. Overall, it's an excellent and reliable go-to that I've never left disappointed. One quick note to the chef: you've been overcooking the meatballs lately and they've lost their tenderness; I've had better--from you! read more

Had a Carbonara craving and chose Tarantino because was nearby and they had it on the menu. First, the bar: very nice wine list with some higher end wines by the glass like Puccini, a Barolo at $19. The beer list is lacking: nothing on tap and limited bottle selection (3 crappy Americans and 4 basic imports - and on this night, they were out of Corona. No bread was offered with he meal. As for the Carbonara: was made with a (not fresh) pasta called "bucatini" which was like a tubular spaghetti. The portion was not large (for $23 it should be more generous), the egg-based sauce was runny thin, the pancetta was practically invisible (way too few pieces which were quite small), and the peas (which was not listed as part of the dish but which I asked for) were too numerous. Flavor was bland, until I added grated Parmesan, which was not fresh. For better Italian and especially Carbonara, visit nearby "Pene E Bene" which packs more flavor, a higher quality pancetta, a larger portion, fresh Parmesan, a nice serving of warmed bread with olive oil, and 10% lower price ($21). At Tarantino, the dish was edible but disappointing by Westport standards. read more

Had an amazing meal there Saturday night. Started with the stuffed artichoke app which tasted as good as any that I have had. Some others at our table got the clams casino which looked very good as well. Our table got fish, veal chop and veal scallopine for entrees all of which were excellent and every bite was eaten of our plates. Dessert was tartufo, tiramisu and profiteroles all of which were delicious as well. We will absolutely be back and told many others of our delicious meal there... This Westport gem has been operating here about 15 years and has consistently been a solid dining choice. Very good menu of Italian fare and dinner cocktails as well as a decent wine list.
