Since I was in the area, I stopped by the Target in Skokie for the first time to pick up a few items. I was surprised by how small it is, easily the smallest Target I've ever visited. There's an entrance on the sidewalk along Dempster Street and another entrance facing the small parking lot in the back. While it seemed to be a smallest Target, it also felt like a very large convenient store.  There are definite pros and cons. On the plus side, it's bright, clean, and efficiently laid out. Because of its size, you don't have to walk far to find what you need, especially if you're familiar with the setup. However, the limited space also means a smaller selection. There simply isn't enough shelf space to carry everything you'd find at a typical Target. For example, they didn't have the cereal I was looking for, and the type of bread we usually buy was sold out.  As a result, I wasn't able to complete my shopping. For that reason, I probably won't return to this particular location again. read more

This Target is easily accessible, as it's right off the Skokie Swift line! It's more of an express type of a Target, as the selection is quite limited. You can still find your super basic needs here or for last-minute items. The pharmacists at this location is pretty efficient, so transferring and/or picking up orders here is pretty seamless. This is a small footprint Target, but can be very handy just for its convenience. It's located right next to the CTA's Yellow Line Dempster St terminal station and that must give it a lot of foot traffic. We only dropped in here because we were passing by and looking for a couple of kiddo gift items, and in the end this Target fit the bill. They have a convenient smallish parking lot. Most of the stock is limited, but most of the typical Target departments were also represented as far as I could tell - CVS pharmacy, cosmetics, grocery, some home goods, some clothing, some toys, etc. We picked our items and as per our typical Target shopping practice, we check the product pricing versus online pricing. Target stores will always honor the lower online price of an item if you flag it to them, so that's your Pro-Tip of the day. Fun fact. My first job ever was working at Target. I hated it. Mostly because all of my money earned went back into their pockets. That being said, I'm a fanatic as a shopper. I never recommend buying clothes here except if you spot a random graphic tee that you have to get. Otherwise, everything else is very cheaply made and overpriced. Surprised, I know! This location does not have a Starbucks inside the store but it's located outside literally right next door. Both this location and Starbucks location are really small and one-off locations. Meaning, they are both unlike any other target or Starbucks layout. You go check it out for yourself and you'll see what I mean. Their holiday cards / card selection department is seriously lacking. This is NOT the location to go to for celebration decorations at all. I learned the hard way on a last minute shower for work, I don't mean a literal one... I digress. The checkout lane is very small, tight and cramped and really just not the best layout at all. I really dislike the entire format at this store! However, it's pretty convenient location wise and decent sized parking lot. Service is hit or miss but they all probably hate their lives working there, so all is well! read more

This location is a smaller target, so it isn't fully stocked as a regular one. They had some of the groceries and house items that I needed to grab, but not a wide choice of them. I'm also not sure if it was the particular night that I stopped by, but they were also out of a quite a few things - perhaps they needed to restock. Many of the lanes are self checkout but with the assistance of an associate nearby. I do appreciate that it isn't too big, which enables you to get in and out quickly. Note - the entrance is on Dempster and there is a small parking lot outside. It's totally easy to get thrown off about how to enter in the restaurant. read more

Appreciate all that Target is doing to help protect its customers and employees during Covid 19 pandemic. Cleaning down carts, limiting amount of customers in store at same time, shielded check out, safe distancing throughout store, check out areas cleaned after every transaction. They have everything, what I need. Food, snacks, milk, yogurt, eggs, processed & dry foods, women clothing, women's athletic clothing, women's shoes, men's clothing, baby everything section, toys section, home decor, towels & bedding, pharmacy, toiletries, beauty products, movies & music. Love it all. The employees are always so helpful, friendly, courteous, and professional. They smile at me & my daughter and thank us for coming. The employees are genuine and make me feel like they value me as a customer. Also, whenever I approach an employee about an item they are very helpful. They will check stock for the item or offer to get it in the back- even purple party streamers 15 minutes prior to closing on a Friday night. read more

Small-medium sized Target with a lot of the essentials like clothes, the pharmacy, and groceries. This place doesn't have as many options as other Targets and some items are missing, so if you just wanna shop around, go to a bigger Target. They have two entrances and you can check out on either side. read more

Alas, I have to take away 2 stars from my previous 5-star review. As before: + The staff is great. + I like the very organized yet compact layout (makes it easier to avoid buying stuff I really don't need). + Somehow their clothing section is cuter than the big Target on Howard (I think it's just better organized). + Less crowded, which makes it more efficient. I like efficiency. So, why the -2? THEY JACK UP THE PRICES OF THE THINGS YOU INTENTIONALLY STOP IN TO THIS LOCATION TO GET. Not the prices of clothing/shoes, home decor, or anything with pre-printed price tags from the manufacturer, because those are set, but for household goods and essentials that are just regular shelf items -- toilet paper, dish detergent, your basic OTC medications, feminine hygiene products, lightbulbs, paper towels, cat food, etc. I came here tonight to get a few necessary items I was out of but didn't want to deal with the COVID-19 mass hysteria panic doomsdays shoppers at Howard Street buying a year's supply of TP in bulk. I just wanted a quick trip to restock my dish detergent and OTC medication. If I would have ordered the items online and been willing to wait 3 days for them to be shipped, I would have saved myself $5...the items I bought ranged from a mark up of $0.30 (ok, not a huge deal for dish soap when you're paying for the convenience of a quicker trip in and out of a store) up to $4 more for an item in the pharmacy compared to it's online price for the exact same item (both name brand versions, identical UPC codes). I definitely wanted to save myself $5, so instead of quickly going through the self-checkout as I planned, which would've been much quicker, I had to wait in line for the one person at the regular checkout so I could do an on the spot price adjustment. She was perfectly nice about it, but it defeated the entire reason I drove the extra distance to this location vs Evanston. The appeal of this store for household essentials is that you don't need to fight the crowds and can make it a super quick trip compared to other locations, but you're going to pay a ridiculous premium for that...or you're going to wait in line for the one human-run register so you can do a price adjustment, as long as you have your Target app on your phone. I literally scan every item I'm buying with the Target app to see what the difference is as I'm shopping to see if it's worth standing in line versus just paying more for it. (Also, this is something I've noticed several times here -- this isn't just a Coronavirus supply and demand price inflation thing. Usually I don't care and pay the extra 30 cents for my dish soap or the extra $1 or $2 for toilet paper or laundry detergent or whatever, but the huge markup on the medication is what got me irked tonight and made me update my review). read more

How come no one has written about this place since December 2018? Hello...we need some fresh content! I guess this will be the 1st review from this year and hopefully the most accurate ;) So let's see... The past negative reviews were about the checkout area, store layout, and the service (among others). I'll set things straight for you. All the times I've been in this year (I come here every month, if not every other month), the service has been pleasant and I haven't had to wait too long to check out. Sometimes I do self-checkout, other times I go to a cashier. I've found the workers to be nice and helpful. One time, I was interested in trying on these pair of shoes I saw on Target.com, so I checked store availability and it said this store carried them in my size. I had this older gentleman help me look for them because they weren't in the shoe section. This man took his time to comb through the stockroom as well as the floor. Even after I insisted that it was okay, he went back to the stockroom a second time just to make sure. He even offered to reach out to other stores to see who carried them. I truly appreciated it because I've worked in retail before, and let me tell you, customer service like that is rare nowadays. Especially at a big-box retailer. This location does the job for me as I still think they have a pretty good selection and I'm able to make returns or pick up online orders w/o having to deal with a full parking lot. I'm not a big fan of the smaller "express" targets. One opened in Oak Park and I actually drive further to a full Target. I get why someone might be interested - the smaller Targets never seem to have what I need. If I have to go to another store anyway - I'm just going to go there in the first place. The store is clean, well stocked, and organized. I didn't encounter any employees. It does have a private parking lot and it is next door to the best Starbucks I've ever been to, but I had to go to another Target to get what I was looking for. read more

Super friendly store and good if you are in a hurry. Check out can be a little slow due to the set up. This location was made for commuters who need to get in and out in a hurry so this may not be conducive to that at times. The prices are similar to a regular Target, and they actually had cheaper milk than the other local Targets the day I visited. This Target does not have their act together and seems a bit mismanaged. It's a self checkout process, unless you want to wait in a long line because it's completely understaffed. When I did the self-checkout, I needed a gift receipt because I was on my way to a birthday party, and the gift receipt ended up being for only one item of what I purchased. The manager, after I waited for her to come, told me I needed to wait in a very long line in order to get an accurate gift receipt. No apology and quite rude. Overall this target would be okay for quick bare necessities, but it's a frustrating experience because the lack of staff at checkout. The larger targets also seem to have better sale items. read more

If you're looking to stay safe during covid , do not shop at this target. The employees wear masks, but many customers do not, and the manager refuses to enforce the mask mandate. besides the fact that the prices are no different than the local seven elevens in the area, (high) the shelves are empty, and there is only self checkout. The store is small, but not terrible. It's got what you expect out of a small, urban location Target. The issue I had there was with service. Appalling, really. I had a gift card to use. It was really unclear how it worked. No strip to swipe or any obvious way of redeeming. I used self checkout because there were a few of those, and only one person working a checkout. I checked my items, but needed help with the stupid card. A guy working there took forever helping another customer, but was finally available. I asked for help, and from the beginning he treated me like an idiot. He told me to scratch a nasty gray spot on the back of the card to see the value. (The value wasn't under the stuff I had to take off with my finger nail.) He said I have to manually type in the code I revealed. It was in tiny print. No way I could read that. I told him I couldn't, so he would have to do it. He scoffed. I repeated that I can't read that small print, and that he must. He said loudly with disdain "Jesus!" Begrudgingly, he finally got the information entered, completed the order, and threw my card in the garbage. I said "was the whole value of the card used?" He didn't say a word, but fished the card out of the garbage. He looked at my receipt and told me $77.42 remain on the card and he walked away. No apology for throwing away my money! I was very excited when this store opened up. I didn't know about smaller "express" Targets but I do like the idea of a smaller store that isn't overwhelming in size but which has a bit of everything. Good things I liked right away: It has a wonderful parking lot where there is always room and I was happy with the merchandise. Not a huge, crammed Usual Target but enough of everything - including groceries and pet foods, clothes, cosmetics (even fancy names), furnishings - that the 4 times I went I had no problem finding what I could use, nice sales. It took a lot for my happiness to crash and burn but it sure did. The first bad thing is the checkout area. It is so stupidly set up I wonder who gets paid to dream up these things. Maybe Target assumes the "express" Target ought to just be a quick in-and-out-few items store. However, this store is right next to the Dempster train stop, and a very busy currency exchange. The neighborhood is mostly all apartments so it is a convenient place for people to shop who just cashed their paycheck or just got off/off the train or who have no car or means to get to any other store. It has always been busy when I have been there. The check out "line" is placed perpendicular to the front windows. I believe there are 3 check out areas - maybe 4 - but there's always a long queue of people waiting to check out. In order to do this you have one narrow aisle where you wait at the line until called. There are also several Self-Serve check out stations right along this window. So, as you stand with your cart or things, you have people squeezing by you to get to the Self Serve or squeezing by just to leave. when called, you wheel your cart or take your things to the open cashier. There is no place to put your items, since the counter space per cashier is about 2 feet by 2 feet. You have to unload your cart an item at a time while the cashier rings it up or stacks it anywhere they can - on the floor behind them usually, since things have to be bagged differently. The bags are handed back to you, over this same counter. This is awkward and physical. SInce you still have things on your cart you can't put the bags in it, so you have to put them on the floor where people are walking by. To say this is a mess is understating it. I have been there 4 times. The first time I had a LOT of things I was very happy with, since I'd just moved and was buying things and food. As things piled up on the floor, on my feet and on the counter the cashier remarked to me, "Well, you're only supposed to come here for a few things, not big shopping" Fine, I'll take my money elsewhere. Every time I've gone - every time - I have come home missing things. This is 4 times! The first time I realized that someone who had walked out/by me had taken one of the bags that was on the floor (guarded by my feet as best I could). This seems to be a common game as this also happened to my sister, who is disabled and won't be back because she can't lift things over the counter to the cashier and then take heavier bags back over the counter. Another time I got home and realized I was missing a wire wastebasket that I assumed was bagged but maybe it was put on the floor in back of the cashier and he forgot it. There must have been 2 sweaters in there because those were missing, too. I was charged for the sweaters but not the basket. I looked at my receipt and saw it was someone else's. I called and was told without the receipt there's nothing that can be done. I asked if the cashier didn't know who I was - I was just there not even 10 minutes ago - and would they remember? I guess not. It seems that this is their job- ringing up an item, bagging it and giving it right back to you so how do things get "lost" every time? There is no way to watch this because it's so crowded, they're putting things on the floor on their side; they have to use the floor or side area to sort what will be packed with what. One time a lady going to the Self Check kiosk, and had to crab-walk by me and others accidentally stepped on something the lady in back of me had put on the floor since you can't stand there holding 10 things. They started fighting, and I di mean they are right there. It's like you're in an elevator with everyone waiting to check out. If the "lines" were put like normal stores, they'd be able to do it and people ought to be able to unload their cart, see what's going on, see the ringing out process, and not have people walking in back of them, bumping into them, and it seems stealing their stuff if they see any small chance to do so. This was a nice idea and the people working there are very nice but the lay out of the store is ridiculous and apparently you're not allowed to buy more than 3 things. I don't know why, every trip (and I have had others tell me this, also) items disappear or are not packed. Not worth the hassle. read more

Disclaimer: This review is being written by an introvert. I get overwhelmed in big stores which is why I shop at this Target. I prefer to shop efficiently and not linger longer than I need to and this Target allows me to do that. I happen to love the self checkout because there's days when I'm not up for being chatty or dealing with the awkward moments of non-chatty/rude employees (but to be honest, the employees I've run into here have all been pleasant). The parking lot is small which is nice because I'm not dangerously dodging traffic just to walk inside. Some may say there's limited selection, which is kinda true, but I prefer that because they have everything you want and nothing you don't. read more

Wonderful place. I went by the electronics and found out i was able to upgrade my phone. I also save alot by switching to dtv.
