DO NOT GO TO THIS MECHANIC! I first took this car in for an inspection and they charged me $800 for a new exhaust and rear bushings. 40 miles later the car breaks down and the engine needs replacing along with water pump, distributor, timing belt, etc. 800 miles later the car breaks down again in the middle of nowhere. Apparently they installed a shotty water pump and distributor, or just did a poor install job. The car overheated and blew a head gasket. They told me this car would go for another 100,000 miles. Now I'm out $3000 and they won't give me a penny back. These guys are incompetent and untrustworthy. STAY AWAY! read more

I have been taking my cars here for over 25 years. Service is always exemplary. Prices some of the best in town. Wayne and Sam are top notch mechanics, that can work on almost any make or model. They go the extra mile. There have been several times over the years that they have encouraged me to purchase needed parts, rather than have them buy them and mark them up, because they new I could get them cheaper on the net, than they could from their suppliers. I have never had a problem with there labor charges when this has happened. Not the most physically impressive shop, but they have what they need. Over all a great place for your car. read more

Avoid this place like the plague. I brought my truck in for brake work. After waiting a week (it was promised within 2 days) I stopped by to grab some tools from the truck. While doing so, I noticed a huge spill underneath the truck. Crawling under, I noticed a large dent in the gas tank and a messy, amateurish patch job that obviously wasn't working. When the truck was finally ready, I went to pick it up, not mentioning that I knew about the gas tank. I wanted to test them to see if they'd come clean and admit to the damage they caused. They didn't. When I told them I knew, they explained that they had put the truck on the lift incorrectly and tried to raise it via the tank, thus crushing and piercing it. They promised the patch would work. Two weeks later, I filled up the tank. The next morning, I went outside to see that the 20 gallons of gas I'd filled it with had leaked all over the driveway. I brought the truck back to Tarleton's and demanded they replace the tank. When they saw a new tank cost $300, they balked, telling me I should be happy they patched it for free. Remember, this is damage they caused. After a few weeks of haranguing them, they finally agreed to do what they should have done in the first place, and replaced the tank, being so kind as to give me a "free" gallon of gas (They'd cost me 20 gallons and a big mess in front of my house). Do yourself a favor and go to Peacock's on Meade Avenue. The guy is an honest mechanic who does quality work for a very affordable price. Avoid Tarleton's at all costs. read more

Took my car here for a second opinion on repairs after a failed inspection. Wayne made all of the necessary repairs (plus another one the first place didn't catch) for less than half of the cost that the first place was going to charge me. The final bill was exactly what he estimated and everything was taken care of in the same day! Brought my car in for brakes. Initial estimate was way lower than actual cost. About a week later the antilock brake light comes on. Brought it back and was told that they fixed the brakes, but the light was on before I brought it in so it wasn't their fault! Said it was in the wheel and not the brake lines. HELLO. NEVER EVER GO HERE THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!!!!! My husband got his vans spark plugs, break pads a few clips and inspection it came to 430 dollars!!! They added a extra hour to the bill. I called 3 other places and told them what we had done and what would they charge, they all came in at around 350 and that it should of never taken 3 hours. My husband has been going here for 12 years and me for 7. We never shopped around to see if we were getting the best deal because they had our complete trust, were we ever wrong to give them that. read more

Been going here for a long time, especially for inspections. I work on my own cars a lot but I don't have an inspection license or anything so I have to take it to other people, but the point being, I know enough about cars to know when someone is trying to pull a fast one on me. I've gone to other places where I was told I needed new discs to pass inspection as mine were too thin. Well, I know my uncommon car has small wheels and small discs to start with and that mine were perfectly within acceptable parameters, so I brought it over to Tarleton where it passed with no problems. Two years later, I'm driving on the same discs with no problems, so the other place was full of it and trying to rip me off. Another place in town pulled a fast one with my headlights and hi-beam switch but I didn't have time to fight about it and had to let myself get ripped off. Tarleton seems to be the only honest inspection station in town, in my book, and I will always go here from now on. I try to time my oil changes at the same time just to throw them a little extra business when it's cold out and I don't feel like doing it in the driveway. They always get me in and out on the same day if I can leave my car. read more
