I ordered in from Postmates this morning for breakfast and I got the breakfast sandwich with bacon, and I was very impressed with the pickled carrot that came along with the sandwich. It caught me off guard because I thought it was a regular carrot, but luckily for me, I love pickled items and it paired very well with the sandwich itself, and it balanced out the flavor palette. It was a very nice touch. The eggs were very fluffy and loaded. I also ordered the gluten-free banana walnut muffin, which was perfect to add to my breakfast as a little dessert/pastry. Pastries were cold and they don't warm them up. We got the chocolate poppy seed coffee cake and it didn't have much flavor and came with a sandy consistency that I didn't love but my friend did so that's up to preference. The latte tasted just like warm milk and no coffee flavor at first until I mixed it. It's kinda pricey so take that into account. read more

Popped in on a Monday with morning. There are some parking spaces in the back, if you can't find street parking. I came in arnd 10:40 and there was no wait. Absolutely LOVE this location! Staff is always pleasant and efficient. Ordering online and picking up from curbside window is easy. I appreciate the good coffee drinks, cortada is my go to! Selection of pastries all are good but the veggie quiche is always fire. There are a few grab and go salads, sandwiches, and drinks although pricy for serving size. But you won't be disappointed. This is a dope coffee shop with delicious pastries located in West Adams. The staff here is always friendly and welcoming. I've loved everything I've had to eat here. Very cute chic hang out place to have some coffee and chat it up with friends. They have a little set up on the outside to sit down and enjoy your food and drink. I love that they have huge umbrellas as it can get pretty sunny/hot outside. I had trouble deciding on a pastry because they all looked so good but ended up getting the morning bun and it was delicious! I also had the iced vanilla latte that was great. Cute lil bakery on West Adams serving fresh bread and yummy pastries! Staff is lovely. Interior is tiny but they do have a few tables under some umbrellas outside. My boyfriend and I tried the egg sando and avocado tartine and couldn't resist also picking up a morning bun at checkout. The egg sando was served nicely chilled and tasty. I typically don't like ordering avocado toasts at restaurants, but their avocado tartine was surprisingly worthwhile; very fresh and flavorful and not shy with the mashed avocado. This is a delightful retail front for a highly competent bakery that I will be seeking out in future. I had pain croissant and a brewed coffee, both were excellent. The croissant had a crisp, brown flavored exterior and a flaky, airy crumb with a hint of butter. It was simultaneously chewy and melting-in-my-mouth. The coffee was a medium roast, lightly bitter with a complementary roastiness and a mouth filling richness most reminiscent of a spectacular olive oil, the kind you might travel to taste. Really good coffee, but also a perfect match for the bread. Staff were friendly and willing to help you choose. They knew the offerings well. The interior is charming and functional, not awkward to queue or fix your coffee after. The exterior seating is pleasant and clean, but right on a busy street, with all that implies. I have heard about all the new spots opening up in West Adams so I met a friend here. Be aware, seating is only outside. But it was a nice day so no problem. I ordered the turkey and cheese melt with pesto. Of course, it was on homemade bread and was delicious. Melty and savory and yummy. I also got the hibiscus tea, because to be perfectly frank I'm obsessed with hibiscus tea. (You gotta try it, tart and wonderful and lowers your cortisol levels.) Consistently fails to accommodate. I've experienced this failure before when requesting "no mayo" on sandwiches, for example. Today took the cake, however. I popped in to grab a pastry on my way. The ticket price in the container said $6.25. The person behind the bar rang it up as $6.75. I explained what the ticket price said and he responded the computer doesn't let him reduce the price. I looked at the container and showed him that there was another pastry marked for $6.25 and suggested he could charge me for that one instead. His response was he'd have to give me that one instead. At this point, my response was "...or I can give you nothing" and walked out. Say what you will about my principles, but I am taking the time out to give this establishment 1 star (less if I could) for their lack of professionalism. read more

I was picking up a friend for mid week brunch off Normandie and was debating a DTLA bakery and Tartine on West Adams. Tartine was closer, plus no dt traffic. There is parking under the building. The elevator brings you up to the outside alley near the back, which means you have to walk around half of the building to get to bakery. Their entrance is on the corner, with several doors in between saying bakers only. A couple of long picnic tables are on the sidewalk on front and side. I was surprised by how small it was inside. There is a bread rack as you walk in, a counter to the back with display case for pastries and a large menu board. I recall a pastrami sandwich for like $17. wow The country loaves were $13.50, they had some cut for half loaf option. I saw a buttermilk sandwich loaf also 11 or 12 bucks. I opted for a full country and buttermilk. On to the pastry display and a variety pack to share and sample. Ordered almond, plain and jambon (ham n cheese) croissants. All around $6. Tried a sweet scone (blueberry) and obligatory morning bun, also near $6. The first thing I asked the cashier was if they could cut the country loaf, so i could give one to my buddy and keep the other. "Sorry we cant do that." No you didn't! First impression(s) now just sank. Come on. She directed me back to the rack, where they had ONE 1/2 loaf. Paid, $60 plus bucks for 5 pastries two loaves of bread. Pretty Steep for this part of town. Tip screen comes up. my thought SORRY cant do that. On to the tasting. Morning bun was a little stale tasting, overly chewy. Almond croissant was dry and cut in half for some reason! Ham was pretty good Regular was not as shatteringly crisp as i expected. Butter n jam would have been nice. The scone was really dense, but flavor was on point. kinda small. The country loaf was spongey, no rustic crunchy crust. Was it humid that day perhaps, or perhaps the bag. Im a huge fan of Tartine, love their SF flagship and have tried all these items there and many in Santa Monica Store. West Adams is a miss. Skip it. I should have gone downtown to a known quantity and perhaps one of the best in LA. You take your chances. You wine some lose some. read more

I finally got to visit the infamous bakery I've seen all over Tiktok and Instagram. I immediately loved the aesthetic of this location: beautiful plants to greet you at the entrance and outdoor seating with wooden tables placed underneath huge umbrellas. I immediately knew that I wanted to try the morning bun because that's what they're known for. What I didn't know was that I needed their freshly baked loaf of bread in my life. The Multigrain Porridge Bread caught my eye and I loved it. It's definitely on the tangy side but the air pockets were stunning. It had a nice chewy texture with a good crust albeit it being slightly burned. Now, for the long-awaited morning buns. The exterior of these pastries were as hard as a rock. And I mean my arms had a mini workout cutting this pastry in half. Although the outside was tough, the inside was nice and fluffy. It seemed like a sugar overload at first glance, but it actually balanced out nicely since the pastry itself wasn't too sweet. I was mostly surprised that it had an orange zest to it. The only downside to trying to visit this bakery is trying to get a good parking spot! You might find yourself circling around for some time before finding one, especially if visiting during a busy hour of the day. However, once you step into the bakery, you are smooth sailing, with a variety of amazing pastries, sweet and savory to choose from and a cafe drink menu with all the classics. I ordered jam cookies, a slice of the strawberry cream cake, a chocolate chip walnut cookie, and a banana cream tart. I highly recommend the cake, it was refreshing to have on a hot day. I walked the dog here, saw the lil sign and just tied him to the door to go inside, grabbed a half loaf of country bread that i'm obsessed with from getting at whole foods, (it's so tasty!) it was fast and easy to order, they had two vegan pastry options for me, went for a corn raspberry thingy instead of the pumpkin something or other, and got a matcha with oat milk and an avocado toast without the butter, cuz I had never been inside a Tartine yet I wanted to get a few things to try out; I'm so pleased with all the flavor on the avocado toast, it had a pickled carrot that was a bright touch to the palette, and I'm looking forward to the pastry thingy for later. I was told my order would come out the pick up window and I sat outside with doggie near it; my tea was brought out to me quickly by a gal and about three minutes later she brought out my toast, I actually didn't see anyone get there orders from the pick up window, seemed better service that way but i'm sure when it gets busy, the window is easier. Debated eating there as it was a nice lil ambiance to the overcast Sunday morning, but kept on my strolll with the dog. Definitely a great spot to meet up with someone for coffee and a bite, or like me, stock up on the yummy bread. This specific location of Tartine is the best! I can heartily recommend their salads, the simple omelette of herbs & sharp cheddar, the seasonal vegetable quiche and the caprese baguette sandwich. Two of my favorite things to eat in LA are served at this Tartine: their Fried Chicken Sandwich (peanut sauce, lacto-papaya slaw, jalapeños, pickled red onion, sweet potato bun) and the best Jamon Fromage Croissant in the city of LA. I eat the Jamon Fromage Croissant fresh out of the case never having it microwaved warm, it is that good and I don't want to mess with its just-fresh-baked ultimate croissant-ness: crunchy crispy on the outside... soft flaky buttery fluffy on the inside. The gruyere cheese has some melted crisp to its edges, the jamon's savory flavor contrasts deliciously. Very good lattes, cappuccinos etc.... both hot and iced. Lots of places to sit at this location: outside off the street on their parklet or on the sidewalk... their outside/inside space just past their huge garage-like roll-up doors... and their interior space. Polished cement floors, brick walls, huge tall space with exposed rafter ceilings.... some plants, some art work. It's a comfortable casual unfussy industrial yet friendly place that invites you to hang out. The people who work here are friendly and attentive.
