Super disappointed in this place. I brought a cat found nearby in traffic here to be taken care of. I was lied to a number of times by them. Told me they would call the shelter and take care of the cat. Come to find out they put it down within 24 hrs of having possession of the cat. I called a few times on the following few days to confirm the cat was at the shelter, and they told me yes it was for sure taken to the shelter. Blatantly lying to me they said 'yes it is at the shelter sir', because they thought I wouldn't follow up. Disgusting treatment of an animal. Lied to me saying its face was cut up and was badly injured and was a crazy cat that could not be handled. Look how 'bad' the face was cut and how 'crazy' this cat was. Shame on them. read more

i came in with a client as a behaviorist requesting a certain medication - the veterinarian, Dr Johnson was very helpful and kind. he's the only stranger that i've seen be able to get close to this dog. he seemed knowledgeable and knew about the drug i was requesting. afterwards, the front office seemed efficient, not warm and toasty, but seemed nice enough. i don't remember how long it took for my client to get the appointment, but i don't think it was excessive. i really liked this vet! read more

Terrible. Cold. I had to cancel an appointment because my elderly dog passed away and I was met with shortness and rudeness. Zero sense of empathy. The person who answered the phone was clearly more concerned with the cancellation than acknowledging that we have just lost a beloved family member. It was honestly shocking. Maybe I expect animal people to be more empathetic - maybe that expectation is unfair. Maybe it's not. All I know is that basically having someone hang up on me after I said my dog died this morning was pretty gross. read more

I have a giant house rabbit named Clarence, who needs to be seen by a vet with bunny experience: number one, because he's a bun, and number two, because exotics have different needs than your typical cat or dog. My bun has a chronic eye problem that my fave, close-to-home vet, had previously diagnosed as untreatable, but I wanted a second opinion, (since you have to be your own advocate with medical stuff in life, but he has no voice.... except, of course, when he sings me the song of his people, in the middle of the night, by stomping his gigantic bun feet on the wood floor). I hear you bun. I hear you. Anyhow, Dr. Dowd was outstanding and she/her team did an exceptional job cleaning his exceptionally dirty ears. I think he's really too big to get his own feet into his ear and do it himself, and I do my best but it freaks me out getting out giant chunks of bunny ear wax. My last vet ear cleaning was so much money I'm embarrassed I didn't ask if they accidentally added a zero at the end of the bill - since that ear cleaning by itself was more expensive the my initial exam AND ear cleaning at Tassajara, they are my new go-to. Dr. Dowd spoke on the phone with us before returning Mr. Rabbit and she wasn't rushed with her explanations, or condescending about his diet/exercise regime. She explained some typical causes of eye issues with buns, but said my baby doesn't have impacted teeth or any other obvious condition that would cause his watery eyes (confirmed: untreatable). It's just something I have to help him with, as I have been. I wash his face daily, which neither of us love. She recommended that he eat less dry cat food, and confirmed he's just really fat and it's not a giant tumor growing around his whole body. Which was both good and bad news at the same time. We loved her and the front office staff and we'll be back for follow-up visits with the bun, even though the cat will remain at our home vet in Concord, since we love them too. read more

We have been customers of Dr Campbell and Dowd for 20 years with various pets and always found the front staff and our Vets exceptional. I am sharing our deep disappointment over the past 3 weeks when attempting to be seen with dog. We were told the bookings are 2 weeks out and we made an appointment. I then called 2 times begging for an earlier appointment in fear our dog was in dire circumstances as her health declined. We received no compassion or emotional concern, just a factual statement- we have no openings. No one mentioned any emergency slots or possibility to consult with the Vet to squeeze her in. We called on Friday night and begged to be seen on Saturday and left a message. We received no return call on Saturday morning by 10am. I called and again asked if anyone heard our message and was told, "no". We were allotted a 10:30am slot at 10am and I said we need to get dressed and get her into the car. We drove over and we arrived at 10:40, 10 minutes late due to our struggles to get a sick 60 lb dog in the car and waited for 5 minutes to be addressed at the counter, only to be told we were late and could not be seen. We were turned away and told to go to the local ER. I am furious at the lack of compassion, accommodation, and impersonal treatment by the front office staff. I work in healthcare and know that 70% of patients will switch Doctors due to a single poor interaction. We are leaving Tassajara and recommend you train your front office staff in customer service and compassion with customers. I'm sure we can find another clinic who will provide the personalized care and concern we once cherished at Tassajara. We were able to get into another vet on Monday. read more

Two days after a recent appointment to see Dr. Dowd about my dog's ear infection, I received a brief (two sentence) letter in the mail informing me that the doctor would no longer care for my dog. The letter stunned and saddened me, particularly since Dr. Dowd has been my dog's veterinarian for 7 years. I called Dr. Dowd's office in order to discuss the matter. Because I was unable to reach the doctor directly, I left a VM asking her to discuss with me the reasons why she had dropped my dog's care. Still no response. I called the office two more times over the next few weeks. Still no response. Finally, the front desk got back to me and informed me that Dr. Dowd was dropping my dog, because she felt that I was not following the doctor's recommendations and that there was "nothing more the doctor could do" for my pet. ( I followed up with a letter requesting a conversation, and again I received no reply). The only conceivable thing I can think of that might have upset Dr. Dowd is that I did not immediately jump into the surgery option for my dog's "possible" TPLO tear. Instead I elected to provide him rest and supplements in addition to his already healthy diet with the hopes that he will mend holistically. (Of course, if this regimen is unsuccessful, I will keep the options open and consider surgery.) If Dr. Dowd had concerns about how I was caring for my dog, an honest conversation would have been the professional and humane thing to do after 7 years of treating him, rather than writing me a 2 sentence letter. This episode has been highly unsettling to me, as I have always wanted the best for my dog. read more

Tassajara Vet is an amazing place to take your pet. With everything going on, they have a great organized system to accommodate the circumstances of Covid19 right now. The staff who work there are extremely friendly, caring, and patient and are very welcoming. My puppy met with Dr. Tammy Pierce and she provided so much information regarding his wellness check-up, did her best to consider financial payments for a first time adopter, and also provided a handbook for first time adopters. I can't wait to keep taking my puppy back here for anything that he needs as I know that he is in great hands with wonderful and loving people who genuinely care for the pets who come in. read more

She has treated my dogs and cats for many years. Working with her has always been a great experience. We've been taking our dogs to Tassaraja Veterinary Clinic for over 13 years. Whether we saw Dr. Dowd or Dr. Johnson, we always felt our dog received excellent care. Our previous dog loved going there. She'd always jump up on the counter with her front paws when they called her name. Our current dog has anxiety issues when we take him there for appointments. Dr. Miller and her staff have been very understanding and patient with him. And they have the best dog treats to keep him distracted during exams. We highly recommend them! read more

This is a difficult review to write. Dr. Dowd is a good vet and a wonderful person. But her clinic is basically a "fair weather" veterinary clinic. They do a nice job on wellness exams and shots, but if your dog is really sick, you can't get in to see anyone. There is no provision to take care of a sick dog on short notice. There is no same-day "urgent" care provided in the practice. Or even "semi-urgent care." A near-tragic incident last week vividly brought this home to us. We were in New York City on vacation. The woman who boards our dogs when we are away sent me a text Weds. morning and asked me to call her immediately because our dog, Ollie, was gravely ill. He had either a seizure or a stroke during the night and she found him curled up in the corner of the room, catatonic--stiff as a board, unable to stand, unable to move, unable to lift his head, body shaking, eyes glazed and unable to focus. Naturally, we wanted our vet to look at him, so I called Dr. Dowd's office. It was about 9:30 am Danville time and I asked if our daughter (who had picked him up from the boarder) could bring Ollie in to see one of the doctors that afternoon. We were told the first available appointment was at the end of next week...10 days later. I told the girl on the phone that I wasn't sure he'd be alive tomorrow, much less in 10 days. Couldn't she get a longtime patient in to see one of the doctors? She said we needed to go to an emergency clinic and that "the first time I can get him in is at the end of next week." Aside from the fact that this was shocking and disappointing, she showed absolutely no empathy for our situation. She was totally insensitive. I thought my dog was dying and she had no interest in helping him. I understand if Tassajara wants to have a 9-5 practice and not work evenings or weekends. But to be unwilling or unable to see a very sick longtime patient when you get a call early in the day is unacceptable. read more

Dr. Dowd is so compassionate. My 15 y.o. Tipper was not behaving like her fun-loving self for a couple of months - her life quality was just not there anymore. Dr. Dowd helped my family make the difficult decision that "she had given all the love she had to give" and it was time. We had decided to say our goodbyes at home. Tipper was always so stressed when she had to go to the vet so Dr.Dowd arranged things so that she could come to our home. I could not believe it. Being able to say our goodbyes at home made the process so much easier on all of us. Dr. Dowd brought her assistant with her and she was so kind and quietly efficient as she gently wrapped my sweet dog in a blanket and put her on her favorite pillow so we could hold her as the Dr. gave her a fast-acting tranquilizer which allowed her to pass quietly without any stress. They gave us the time we needed to grieve after her passing and were gentle when taking her out of our home. I would have given MORE stars if available! When our sweet 10 year old lab needed to have a tumor removed from his ear, we learned that some vets take a used car salesman approach by provided outrageous estimates for the surgical removal with all sorts of add-ons/upsells. That is NOT how it works with this vet. Dr. Pierce addressed all of concerns, gave us a fair estimate and even ended up charging us less after the tumor removal ended up being simpler than anticipated. More importantly, our pup received the very best care. Dr. Pierce did a wonderful job and called to follow up after the operation. She was skilled and caring. We are so happy to have found her and Tassajara Vet Clinic. read more

It was the first time we have taken our 2 year old corgi to a veterinarian. We were concern that our corgi had an ear infection so we decided to take him here and at the same time do an office visit too. Our dog saw Dr. Pierce which we met outside because of COVID-19 We explain to her about his ear and at the same time to overall checkup. After they took the dog in and did test they ask if we would like to do a test of his ear to make sure his ear had no infection. After a few minutes the results was negative. We will be back for his annual checkup! A great place with great workers. read more

Mom and I dropped my brother and sister-in-law's bernadoodle off here yesterday to be groomed. I don't usually think of veterinary clinics first when I think about getting a dog groomed, but my mom and sister-in-law are both REALLY impressed with the Tassajara Veterinary Clinic and recommend them to everyone they know both for their veterinary care and for their grooming services. Ellie is a bernadoodle, a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a poodle. She is still a puppy, but she's not a delicate creature. On her first grooming visit, they got her used to them and the equipment. On this visit, they did a full trim. I don't know about your dog, but my yorkie at home is not thrilled about the process no matter who does it. When we left to drop Ellie off at 7:30 am yesterday morning I fully expected her to be hesitant about being left in a strange place. That was NOT AT ALL the case. We walked in and the the lady working the front counter called to the lady in back that we'd arrived. When Ellie saw the lady walking out from the back she took off running happily to greet her. I couldn't believe it. My mom says that they take her for walks during the day while she's waiting to be groomed so they developed a relationship with her. I just know that it was so nice to see her HAPPY to be left there that I felt no guilt doing so - NOT the case when I leave my dog in Bakersfield. SHE gives me that 'you should feel guilty about this FOREVER' stare. When she returned from being groomed she was gorgeous and just as happy as when we left her. We asked for a short cut (but not a shave) and they did exactly as we asked. Mom recommends them to all her friends with puppies because they are so good at interacting with the animals they serve. First time to this Vet today after several recommendations from my family. My dog went in shaking like he has at other vets. But after he was greeted by the staff he mellowed out fast. Dr Miller came in to give Joey a checkup and she made my dog Joey feel very comfortable right away and gave him an extremely good checkup. She was very gentle with my dog and made my wife and I feel EXTREMELY comfortable and able to trust her almost instantly. I started going here with my pets about a year ago. I was at another vet that had one good vet and one that was terrible. I have been to three vets at Tassajara now and I was really pleased with all three. There is no over sell or recommending unnecessary procedures. They all take their time and really talk to you. My dog was also much more relaxed with the vet and the techs. I highly recommend this vet group. Can't wait until Dr Martin is back! We take our two dogs here. One is elderly and the other just likes to eat A LOT. Like even non-edible things. He's a lab, he can't help it. Anyway, we've been very happy with Tassajara Vet Clinic. The front desk staff and assistants are all very polite and friendly and kind to the animals. My elderly girl is a total mama's girl (always has been) so they try to do as much as possible in the room with me so I can be with you. My lab is total dufus and will go with anyone if he thinks there is a chance of getting food. I like that they treat both dogs like individuals, instead of just doing it because that's what they do. Both Doctors are great doctors and obviously care greatly about animals. We do have a personal preference to Dr. Dowd. I don't think Dr. Campbell means to but she does sometimes make you feel like a negligent owner...you don't brush her teeth at home? Why are her nails so long? You should be cutting them more. Well she's part Rhodesian and has super long quicks. I just sometimes feel the need to defend myself with her while Dr. Dowd is very non judgemental. I would like to add, my dogs are very loved and have a very good life. They are in no way neglected or mistreated. Anyway, she's not mean at all and I know it's out of love for the animals and her practice but we do go to Dr. Dowd more. Prices are reasonable for the area as we'll. read more

Dr. Dowd and team are outstanding. They helped us navigate the painful process of sending our family dog to Heaven. Dr. Dowd called me the day after we'd been in to see her AFTER HOURS before she left the office to go home, in order to get an update on our pet (after we'd gone to Dr. Adamo in Walnut Creek on Dr. Dowd's referral). She talked with me for @20 mins, while we went over the diagnosis and prognosis together. I highly recommend her. read more

We have been happy with the team members and Dr Miller who has taken care of our pet, provided guidance and treated her for deworming; and provided all shots. The staff at Tassajara is amazing! I brought my cat in for an exam because he had a fever, was extremely lethargic, and was not eating. Dr. Pierce saw us, she explained everything they would be doing thoroughly and quickly ruled out a couple of serious conditions. She ran tests and the results were inconclusive, she gently explained to me that my cat would require hospitalization and gave me a great referral. I left Tassajara in such a hurry though, I left my pets medication on the counter. Kaitlyn at the front desk was so sweet, she called and offered to have someone drop off the medicine at the hospital for me. TVC has been around for quite some time and I know from experience that they do a fantastic job. I've been taking my little Casper here for 2 years now and they have made the experience of a first time dog-owner so smooth. First off, all the staff who work there are extremely friendly and nice. I haven't had a bad experience with them at all (knocks on wood). Casper see's Dr. Campbell and is very comfortable with her. She has additionally been very helpful in answering all my questions and concerns possible. Secondly, the prices for the medication I buy for Casper are great. As far as kibbles and other food goes, I haven't purchased from them before since they are limited to mostly science diet brands I believe? The only 'bad' experience I had (it honestly wasn't bad), was that I had a scheduled appt today for 4:30 and didn't get seen until 5 or so, due to an emergency patient, which I totally understand. I wasn't unhappy or anything, the doc explained the situation to me and was very apologetic, and I respect that sincerity. Overall, i'd have to recommend TVC to anyone seeking a local vet who cares for your companion as much as you do! read more

Great staff, very professional, prompt and quick, yet accommodating and understanding when things don't go well by "you know who". Service prices are reasonable but better than other vets when you factor in the better staff. The vets we've seen are all great. Very knowledgable and competent, with lots of good non-vet general advice. Great with "you know who". Now, "You Know Who" who has now left the room, is Bonnie, my very smart Border Collie, who just does not like to go to the vet. She steers clear whenever we get cose and tries to talk/walk me out of it. Once we are in however, she is fine and friendly and goes with the staff obediently. read more
