Newish owners. Seem like nice enough folks... Perhaps not IDEAL restauranteurs. That may sound a bit harsh, but I can't stress enough to you that we really did go there with the highest intention of loving it as we always did. We loved that place and the people and, good god, we did love the food. From the gate there was 1 obvious new change that caused us to immediately have to re-think our plans... No bottomless mimosas ! Nothing like that of any kind! They sold their liqour license! So... okay. We'll have sodas, just this once , and try to keep an open positive mind and attitude. New people, old menu, newbie staff, try to be patient, and all that stuff, you know... considered. We got seated quickly enough. and then we saw the menu. They had made up a story about how the diner got it's nickname "The Dead Fly Diner". How would I know? My father coined that phrase during a county fair week when they were expanding the dining area and they had to keep it open and the flys, they did come a buzzin'. But they made up a whole other story of how that came to be. * Flash to Lloyd Bentsen "Senator, I knew the Dead Fly Diner. The Dead Fly Diner was a friend of mine. Senator, you're no Dead Fly Diner". So we bravely ordered our old favorites off the lying menu and were alarmed at the prices as they had nearly doubled since Covid!... but no matter. This was now a fact-finding mission: Was the food quality and quantity maintained? Their signature burger, "The Dead Fly" was now offered more or less stripped of its usual accoutrements which could be added for a fee so add cheese (3 slices) , ham slices (3), and ortega chile (1 big guy), and a diet cola. I thought the bill may have begun to approach house payment status, but soldiered forward. Some time later... ("some" time? OH yeah... 42 minutes or so, and it wasn't even busy) The food arrived and the ice had melted in my cola and turned to water which was the only water available, as no one checked us for need of refills. Ever. But nevermind about that. The biggest kick in the cahones was that they charged for the burger toppins and did NOT include them on a plate at all... and they never did. Oh, I waited for the waitress to ask the usual "how is everything, fellas'?", but did she ever set sail for our part of the seating area? I will just... let you guess. So I was on the hook for a nearly $50 buck (Burger + non-existant extras+ cola + 20% tip) lunch that was, from beginning to end, a raging disappointment. Remember, We WANTED to love it, and we really did wish the new owners the best of luck. However, It will be some time before we brave going back. ("Some time?" OH yeah).

Whereas sitting at the bar without a reservation is the way to go if you like to order from the smaller bar menu and still have the flexibility to order from the full menu.

From the moment we walked in, the service was outstanding. Our server, Bessie, was absolutely amazing, kind, funny, and so helpful in answering all of our questions during our first visit. Now, onto the food! The appetizers alone could have been a meal. The Caesar salad was one of the best I've ever had, and as a girlie who doesn't usually love soup, I have to say the corn soup my husband ordered was delicious bursting with flavor and perfectly creamy. My husband chose the burger with truffle fries, and they absolutely nailed it. The bacon jam, arugula, goat cheese aioli... every bite was incredible, and the fries were amazing. I had the steak with scalloped potatoes and carrots, and as someone who typically likes her meat well done, I can honestly say this steak was excellent. Dessert was mouthwatering and packed with flavor. The pricing was also very reasonable for the quality of food and exceptional service we received. We visited on Saturday, the day before Father's Day and two days before my birthday. Not only did they personalize my dessert with a birthday message, but they also surprised me with a birthday card signed by the team. Then, just five days later, a handwritten thank-you card and birthday wishes arrived at my home. That is the kind of service that leaves a lasting impression. Delicious burgers. Massive fries…read more We stopped here on the way back from Tahoe and were happily surprised. The double cheeseburger was big and juicy and tasty. The small fries amazed us with their size. We made another meal for two with the leftovers from the fries and some chili. We will gladly return if we are back in the area. The burgers here are much better than the Giant Burger in Arnold! During our visit the dining room was closed. Not a big deal for us.

Had lunch as well there and food was really good. There were 4 of us buying wine both reds and whites. Somehow our order got a bit mixed up and we accidentally got a case of red in place of white wine. I called office today and they went above and beyond to get that case of wine delivered to our home asap. Cannot beat that for service anywhere. Highly recommend making a trip for anyone who hasn't been there before. Beautiful grounds and wine tasting room. We're now big fans!

Driving from Sutter Creek I was in the town of Amador City when I saw the sign for the End of…read moreNowhere. A very boutique winery, they specialize in natural wines - it was the first time I came across a winery that only served natural wines in the area! Founded in 2016, the winery produces only 2,000 cases a year. The wines are produced using locally grown estate grapes as well as grapes from Clarksburg, Acampo and Lodi. Their estate wines are grown in Pioneer at an elevation of 3,300 feet with 13 (!!!) different varietals on only three acres. They tend to be Rhone varietals as well as Barbera which does well in the area. They use neutral oak for barreling. The tasting flight at $10 had six different wines to sample. My favorite was the 2023 Phantom Limb Zinfandel which uses carbonic fermentation. With an alcohol content of 13.8% the certified organic grapes were harvested from the D'Agostini Shenandoah Vineyard using whole bunch fermentation. With concentrated dark red fruit notes, it had flavors of fruit punch with medium tannins. The other wine that stood out was the 2023 Strange Currencies, featuring Nero D'Avola. I am a huge fan of Sicilian varietals and this one did not disappoint. Strange Currencies was slightly more acidic with red fruit aromas and flavors of dark cherries and lots of tannins. This could easily be cellared for a few years. Finally the 2023 Little Faith, Skin Contact White was an orange wine using chenin blanc, pinot gris, chardonnay and orange muscat. It was bottled with residual sugar with a Cap'n'Crunch aroma on the nose and reminiscent of orange soda and lemon rind. It was considered one of their "large production wines" at 450 cases. With such unique names, the actual tasting room lended itself to the eclectic and whimsical wine labels. Lots of wood abounds with colorful original paintings. They are actually quite well known for their burgers, for $14 you can get grass-fed 6.5 oz patties with a variety of toppings. Imma coming back to try the food next. The patio outside is welcoming overlooking a garden area. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area!
