Decided to grab a double chicken Philly, walked in and they were crowded. The food was not the same. There was no mayonnaise. Or lettuce and tomatoes on my sandwich. Stopped by this place last week. I had been wanting some good food from the hood. I hadn't eaten from this place since I was a college student around 2006. I'm glad to see that the quality is still good and consistent! I ordered "Best of Both World's " which is a Philly cheesesteak filled with chicken and steak. I believe it costed about $12 and came with fries and a drink. The cheesesteak itself is solid although It's a must to order it with everything due to it not having much seasoning on it. The extra ingredients give it a kick. Expert tip: You might even want to add "Mild Sauce" to the Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Overall it's a really good cheesesteak. It is a bit small for the price though. The fries were homemade and I ordered mines with mild sauce. This mild sauce is one of my top 3 favorites in Chicago and is more sweet than tangy. I lean toward more sweet mild sauces due to me having really bad acid reflux and the mild sauce here didn't bother me a bit. The drink that came with the meal tasted like kool-Aid. It was very sweet, actually too sweet but hey can't complain. Overall this is the best philly in the city that I've tasted. The fries with mild sauce are so good that you can order them as a stand alone. I'm giving a 4 out of 5 stars due to the drink being too sweet and the Philly cheesesteak being a bit smaller than others in the city for the price. I'd like to see more seasoning put on the Philly cheesesteak steak as well but that's just a personal preference. read more

Yes there is vegan food in West Garfield Park. It's a bit greasy, and sometimes they only have the seitan "chicken" and not the "steak," but it's there, and open late. If you do want it vegan, make sure you ask for no mayo and no cheese. You may think this is a sketchy neighborhood, but the staff and other patrons were all friendly and helpful and otherwise normal people. The staff knew what "vegan" means and hooked us up without the third degree. Apparently the vegan cheesesteaks are ordered all the time. They added it to the menu because of customer requests, so they sound pretty responsive. As I said, they were out of steak-style seitan, so for $8.00 I got the chicken-style cheesesteak with no mayo and no cheese, a mound of greasy fries with skins on them, and a pink lemonade. I thought the bread on the sandwich was surprisingly good: nice and soft. I would order with hot sauce on it next time though. Fries were not that great, but with ketchup and salt were fine. The pink lemonade was very sweet, pretty much like Kool-aid. They have no seating other than what's chained off. You have to eat standing up at the counters, or take it to the park or something. Damn good philly sandwhich. I'd give a slight edge to (Philly's Best) for the sole fact that they use "cheez wiz" however if you're not a die hard carnivore the literal shards of the steak at Philly's can be a bit much. I loved how the protein is minced here. There were plenty of ways to customize your meal here such as additional "jerk" or "lemon pepper on your fries as well (although if you choose bare fries like I did they're quite forgettable. It's a bit far to travel here solely for food however if you're in the area or desperate late at night this will suffice. read more

They should change the name of this place to "We Ain't Got No" my first time here....didn't expect any customer service since it was 2am on Madison but at least know what you have. Attempted to order a steak taco...we don't have that...so I opted for 2 pizza puffs....waited for my food to get one and the rude cook with the penciled eyebrows and white eye shadow (Tiffany) bagged it but never bothered to tell the cashier. Well let me get the wings...we don't have that. Well let me get the Brick burger... then I attempted to just cancel and she was mad that she had to void the order...so my mom said just get it....before bagging the burger...oh we don't have any ketchup..... this pizza puff, fries, and lemonade better be the best I ever had....never again....walking out the door they told the next customer...we don't have no eggs. i haven't been to this place since b4 covid started and like many other places the quality of the meat has gone down, the meat tasted cheap and tough, it hurt me to write this review because i have been going to taste buds since 2002 and the food have always been on point but covid has really taken a bite out of this place, i hope the owner whose name is brick sees this review and understand that he is going to lose loyal customers if he continue with the cheap meat. read more

Taste Buds was one of my favorite places to eat at on the west side until I purchased food on 10/18/17 for $46.50 with my debit card and was charged $186.00, 4 times the amount of my purchase and I only had one order. I didn't realize that I had been overcharged until Friday 10/20/17, my 9 year old Daughter and I went to the movie theater where I tried to make a purchased and my debit card was declined. I spoke with Betty the owner, who stated that this must be a mistake, to bring my statement into the restaurant, so I did on Saturday 10/21/17, she informed me that she had to talk to her credit card company to see why I was charged 4 times and she'll get back with me on Sunday because it was after 5pm and they're closed, but available 7 days a week. Sunday came and I didn't receive a phone call, as a result that following Monday, 10/23/2017 I drove from the Southside, which is the side of town that I reside, to the Westside. I figured that Betty saw me sitting outside in my car so she decided to call me, I was then inform that she spoke with her Credit card company and I should have my money in 3 to 5 business days. Today 10/30/2017 marks the fifth business day and I have yet to receive my money, so I called Taste buds to speak with her an employee stated that "Betty is not here, you should call her on her cell phone because this is a place of business, your money should be on your card at 12pm" I told him that I didn't have her cellphone number and that it's already past 12pm, he then told me "that you should have your money tomorrow then". I was outraged and disrespected, so I drove back to the Westside to speak with Bettie face to face and was told by an employee that she'll speak with me shortly. I waited for over an hour, so I asked would she be available to speak with me before 2pm, furthermore I was informed that Bettie wasn't there, she gave me the number to her credit card provider, who won't speak or help me with this situation because I'm not a merchant. Betty doesn't have any compassion, empathy, nor professionalism in dealing with my situation, I will never do business with this establishment again, to add I've lived on the Southside of Chicago all of my life and frequently traveled to the Westside just to patronize with this Restaurant which I shared with Betty. This is one of the reasons that many Black owned establishments aren't supported by our own and that there's a lack of unity in our communities due to the lack of respect, morals and values. read more
