The infamous back door that is propped open on cold days allowing a cold wind to enter the dining area.

My wife and I ate here for breakfast yesterday. The food was good, but there was a problem with the rear door that was allowing cold outside air to blow right at our table. Everything was find at first and then they started seating people outside. The door was wide open to allow people to come and go. However, it was very cold outside and our table was near that door. We asked the staff to keep the door closed and they closed it most of the way, but blocked it open with a door stop. This still allowed a cold breeze to come right at our table. My wife's food got cold and she was feeling cold. The staff said that they could do nothing as the door automatically locks. The door was a standard push bar to open. These doors have a mechanism that can be used to unlock the door; however the staff either did not know how their door worked or were unwilling to even try to unlock it. So we were cold and ate cold food. The food itself was good. My wife enjoyed (until they got cold due to the wind) her Lumberjack pancakes with bananas and berries ($11.99) and a side of bacon ($5.99). I had a delicious side order of Linguica ($5.99) with a side of two eggs over easy ($4.99). They should really warn people before seating them by the back door on a cold day when they intend to use the outdoor tables.

We came here expecting a breakfast with nice ambiance, but the smoked salmon Eggs Benedict was a big disappointment. The salmon had a strong fishy smell and tasted sour and bitter -- clearly not fresh. When it brought to the manager's attention, she simply said "that's probably how it tastes to you," insisting that's how it's supposed to be. The eggs weren't runny either. No apology, no concern, no attempt to make it right. Unfortunately, after this experience, we're pretty much done with this restaurant.

Delicious! Surprised to see this place off Hwy 1 in Half Moon Bay. It had great reviews and happy we tried it out! Plus it had outdoor seating to bring our pup! Casual, cozy ambiance, friendly and fast service. Hubby got the breakfast burrito. He said it great flavor and liked the hashbrowns in the filling. I got the Blackstone Benedict with caramelized onions & sauteed mushrooms. Yum!! It also came with heirloom tomatoes but I might leave those off next time bc it made the english muffin soggy. Definitely would come back!

Food was fantastic! Great service and great prices. The wait on the weekends can be a bit long but expected. We came around 10:30am on a Sunday and noticed the crowds started to die down a bit after 11:30. Highly recommend and will definitely come back

My partner and I decided to escape to Half Moon Bay during the latest heat wave of this seemingly never-ending summer. We got into town early, and our first stop was Taste for breakfast. Very nice experience. Service was very good, friendly and attentive, but without ever rushing us - and we like to take our time, lol. The food was delicious and satisfying. I had the smoked salmon crepe, my partner had the Mexican omelette. Flavorful and generous portions. We both had the hash browns, and they were honestly some of the best hash browns I've had. I love that they prefer cash! Cash is king, it allows people to transact in privacy, and allows access to people without bank accounts/credit cards. Please support cash-based businesses, and pay with cash whenever you can! Lovely little place, we will return when in the area.

IMHO If you want warm, genuine and friendly service, this is the place!!! The restaurant is bright, clean and whimsical. This is definitely a local favorite. The servers seemed to know everyone who walked in! That's a good sign! My friend and I chose Taste Cafe for lunch, before our pumpkin farm picking experience. Taste Cafe serves brunch offerings and are open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. We were warmly greeted and given our choice of tables. Mario was our super friendly server who offered his favorite entrees. My friend opted for the Chilaquiles, and I ordered a Bacon Belgian Waffle. Portions were ample enough for us to bring home leftovers. Food was good and tasty. I would happily come back to Taste Cafe and try any of their many offerings!

Our son recommended Taste Cafe as one of their favorite breakfast places in HMB, but was closed during our last visit over Memorial Day weekend. So we finally had a chance to visit for Christmas Eve Beakfast. What a great menu - so many choices for omelettes, crepes, benedicts. Loved the Smoked Salmon crepe with scrambled eggs, tons of smoked salmon, onions! Omelettes are huge. The place was very busy but our server was attentive and super friendly (warned us away from spicy items when we asked). Good coffee. Will definitely return on our next visit to HMB!

A must stop for breakfast/ brunch when in HMB! Everytime we go down to visit friends we stop here The staff is so friendly and the food is delicious. The portions are perfect. The hollandaise on the eggs benny is so tasty and they put the perfect amount so you can dip your hash browns in it. My partner always gets the chilaquiles verde and it's their favorite spot in the bay for them. We've also enjoyed the bloody mary's here. It can get pretty busy but we have never waited more than 10 minutes for a table, even on a Sunday. Can't wait for our next trip down from sf!

What a gem! I had just completed a nice run in the coast and decided to find a place for breakfast. Google brought me to Taste Cafe and it was great! There was a wait for a table, but luckily for me someone was just leaving from the bar so I was able to sit right down. I was immediately greeted with a menu and a glass of water which was great after just finishing a run. I ordered the Vege Crepe which had egg whites, vege's and I added extra avocado. Had the choice of fruit or toast and I should have chosen the fruit. The crepe and potatoes were plenty of carbs. The good came quickly and it was delicious. As I sat there I must've been checked on at least 4x. All of the servers were pleasant and responsive. I can't believe I've never tried this place begore..ill definitely be back when I'm in town.

Walked in for breakfast on a Saturday morning around 9:30. Was greeted and seated as soon as we walked in. Our food arrived on big round plates, covered with food. The staff were very attentive constantly asking if I would like more coffee. The whipped cream on the waffle was so sweet, there was no need for syrup. Zero complaints and I highly recommend. read more

Pandemic protocol not on point... one year to figure things out. I just tried to go here for brunch. 30 minute wait, it's 55 degrees outside and raining and I asked if we could leave our phone number so we could wait in our car... no can do they said. Lamest of the lame. Can't tell you what the food tastes like. read more

Spent the weekend in Half Moon Bay for a wedding. Searched on Yelp for nearby breakfast places. I'm so glad we found this spot! We came here Saturday morning for a go to order. I got the Denver omelette and my husband got the breakfast burrito with bacon. The food was so hot which was nice since usually takeout the food gets cold. The Denver omelette came with a side of hash browns that were really tasty. Portions are decent sizes and I couldn't even eat half of my food. I took a bite of the breakfast burrito and it was sooo good!!! It was nice and fully loaded with eggs, cheese, hash browns, and bacon of course. I love how much they stuffed the burrito and was not skimpy on the food. The breakfast burrito was so good that we came back on Sunday before heading home & got breakfast burritos again!! This place is a gem and the food is on point! Def should make the effort to come & support this place! read more

This place was REALLY good. I got the Mexican omelette, husband the linguica with eggs and my son the French toast. The French toast was made with a really thick Texas toast and it was amazing. My omelette was packed with veggies and cheese with a flavorful salsa. Opt for the breakfast potatoes as your side, they are delicious. Whenever we are in the area, this will be our go to breakfast spot. read more

We stopped here for breakfast based on others' reviews and were not disappointed! We had the biscuits and gravy and standard eggs Benedict. The biscuits, as others have mentioned, were light and delicious. The gravy was tasty. The eggs Benedict had very fluffy, tall whites and perfectly cooked (runny) yolks. The home fried potatoes were good as well. The service was excellent; we will return when back in town! read more

I'm so grateful they are open in these trying times for seating outside! My boyfriend and I were quickly seated. I ordered their white mocha, which was very sweet and absolutely divine. Their scramble was also good, and the pancakes were great! Very fluffy, but I regret not getting them with strawberries. My boyfriend was happy with his burrito- he was full all day! Food/menu is nothing to be amazed by. Waitresses are nice enough but not very proactive. I feel like overall their service and pricing would be better if it were all inclusive. I have to ask for salt, pepper, ya patio/Tabasco...I feel like they should offer it. A dollar for this and a dollar for that for things like salsa or sour cream in an omelet on top of the price for the base meal also just seems silly to me. read more

Just had breakfast here. Come to HMB ask the time but have never looked in the corner of the CVS/Safeway shopping center. Really nice and clean inside and has a great diverse menu. Food was delicious. What I really liked is the service e is top notch. All happy faces and treating us very well. My family and I visited Half Moon Bay and we decided to stop by to this cafe for brunch-- it was our first time there. We got there and were quickly greeted, sat and were eating in no time. The food was great and service was superb up to this point. We left the place happy. However, once I got to the beach, I realized I did not have my reading glasses. I assumed I had left them in the car or at the restaurant. When I made it back to our car, the glasses were not there and I realized I must have left them at the restaurant. At the restaurant I also took a picture of my plate of food, and my glasses were there in the picture! I hurried back and spoke to the person in charge of closing up the restaurant and she said no one had seen them nor placed them at the register. I then called the next day and a different employee said the same thing. I am not blaming anyone but myself, but I was hoping they would be kind enough to check the footage to trace the glasses. I had just gotten them and they were pretty pricey, but they are prescription glasses. read more

Solid place, I've eaten here 5 times...breakfast and lunch. It's always been consistent, portions are just right, food has always been good, coffee is good, and the service is very attentive. The place is spotless inside too, and if you remember White Elephant the inside has been completely transformed for the better. The scrambles and meat crepes have been the standouts so far. read more

I've had the best grilled chicken sandwich here and Chilaquiles!! It took me a while to try the chilaquiles because I was just so in love with the sandwich. Now I convince who ever I go with to order either or and split lol but working my way to explore the rest of the menu! Seriously won't be disappointed trying either of those! Great customer service as well! Super friendly! Chilaquiles are very well known in town by the way! So you have to try those! I'm not very easily pleased with restaurant chilaquiles and oh my those are definitely the best I have yet tried!! read more

Lovely!!! Menu served all-day. I will be back to try more. Great breakfast, good portion size, menu choices and clean. Kudos to the service, all attentive and hardworking! Something to be said about filled condiments, cleaned windows, non-sticky booths, and staff that are not on their phones - they impressed me most, enough to write this review. Belgian waffle options, fresh whipped cream, fresh fruit - all great. Plump sausages, hashbrowns (on point) or potatoes. Can't wait to be back. read more

I'm really picky when it comes to brunch. This place was delicious. Doesn't quite have the ambience of an LA or SF brunch spot, but the food (which is all that really matters) is awesome! I had the Bay Shrimp crepe and it was so good! Pancakes were fluffy too! read more

I have a mixed review... food was excellent!!! Great menu and satisfied both sweet and savory palate. However, the place seemed dirty and their outdoor eating area was very uninviting! No awnings or umbrellas- so the sun was pounding on us and no plants or barriers from hwy 1. Pooped on sidewalk in the front. Good food/ but dirty unpleasant atmosphere read more

We were looking forward to visiting this spot after hearing a lot about the food. Well the high recommendations are warranted. This place is fantastic! We tried it out for breakfast. We were pleasantly greeted at the door. We all enjoyed our meal. The food is all fresh and they don't skimp on portions. The Chilaquiles are delicious! We also had the veggie omelette and another in our party had the biscuits and gravy. No doubt we'll be back. read more

Highly recommend! Cute decor, clean, very generous portions and great coffee. Service was very attentive on a Tuesday morning (never an empty coffee cup) and the food delicious. Chilaquiles in green sauce ($15) with perfect eggs over medium. Sauced just right and spicy enough didn't need the jalapeños on top but they were there if you want spicier. Hubbys smoked salmon omelet ($17) was huge served with crispy hash browns and four slices of toast! Will definitely recommend and would go back if we weren't heading home. Yum! read more

Curious about what the new/old place is like, our three-person family went there for a late breakfast today. Walking up to the front doors, the original inset stained glass remains. Walking in, the cool wood paneling and nautical decor remains in place with a couple of new touches. The fully appointed bar also remains, now with a more streamlined look with subtle lighting changes. We were greeted pleasantly and seated inside the dining room immediately; it was moderately busy and buzzing, not too loud. Our server was quick to our table, menu-knowledgeable and consistent in his attention to us. We had a Denver omelette, a couple of bennies and lemon ricotta pancakes to share. My omelette had particularly fresh and al fresca peppers and onions - wonderful. The lemon ricotta pancakes were sufficiently saturated and fluffy(hard to pull off)and came with fresh cream. The prices were at about the same level as the local competition, which pleasantly surprised us. It appears that the folks who did this breakfast/lunch reboot were shrewd in pricing their dishes. Jetty Wave, a drinks and appetizers adventure(which I heartily recommend as well for different reasons)in the northwestern part of Princeton, is not for the fiscally faint hearted. The only element that makes our experience short of a 5 is that we were not given a farewell when we left, though I was able to find our friendly server and thanked him. In all, the Joanne's legacy is intact - the old carved wood Ketch Joanne sign still hangs inside - literally and figuratively a homage to its legacy while bringing a new energy to this space. We started with the calamari, which was hands-down some of the best I've ever had: tender, not rubbery at all, perfectly seasoned and fried, melting in your mouth. The New England-style clam chowder was rich, creamy, with just the right subtle smokiness and balanced seasoning--definitely lives up to Half Moon Bay's chowder reputation. For mains, the Dungeness crab sandwich was the star: generous lumps of sweet local crab, minimal sauce (just how I like it), on toasted sourdough with fries on the side. My partner went with the fish and chips, and the cod was crispy, flaky, and not greasy at all--classic done right. The outdoor patio with fire pits was cozy even in cooler weather, and our server was super friendly, attentive, and full of local recommendations. The place feels welcoming, whether you're a regular from the Coastside or just passing through after a beach walk or harbor stroll. Prices are fair for the fresh, quality ingredients and location--definitely worth it. We've already added it to our list for the next trip to Half Moon Bay. Highly recommend if you're craving solid seafood in a charming harborside setting! 5/5 stars.

The Maitake mushrooms were very tender and flavorful! - Homemade Potato chips: staff told us that this tends to sell out before the end of the day, but we were lucky enough to get an order of them and they were very very good! The food is always fresh and delicious. Many of our guests were first time visitors and loved the food, some even telling us they would be back when they are in the area. The Poc Chuc, Cochinita Pibil, and Chicken Adobo were favorites. For our group, the restaurant was the perfect size and I am so thankful they could accommodate us. Colleen helped us plan the event and she was so easy to work with. She took excellent care of us on the day of and was a true professional. Mitchell and Arturo worked so hard cooking and getting all of the food out and provided excellent service. My family loved chatting with them all at the end of the event. We love Café Capistrano so much and look forward to visiting for many years to come.

I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional experience I had at this family own restaurant. Without a doubt, this restaurant has become my first choice whenever I am in HMB for a remarkable culinary adventure. Chilaquiles, in particular, are unparalleled and simply the best in town. The expertly crafted dish is a testament to the incredible skills of your talented kitchen staff. However, it's not just the food that keeps me coming back. The moment I step through the doors, I am enveloped in a warm and inviting atmosphere. It feels as though I am returning home after a long, exhausting day at work. The sense of belonging and familiarity that this establishment exudes truly makes every visit a joyous occasion. Elizabeth, I believe is the owner, she's amazing. Her welcoming attitude and beaming smile instantly brighten up the day of every customer who walks through the door. Her dedication to ensuring everyone feels valued and comfortable is truly commendable. If it were up to me, I would visit this restaurant each and every day. The sugar packets are very yum yummy and the cheese in my toes were extra yummy because of how good this place was and you should come here because you get free water and stuff and you get to eat food but you have to pay and stuff so like yeah and sugar packets and the clock is cool because it is a golden color and there's like 10 clocks and you have to pay to eat which is cool. Also I like the chicken tenders and fries even I didn't try them yet so like yum yum the service was good even though we didn't get the food yet and my hoodie is green so that's a star.there is cool sayings on the board and I didn't read them but they are cool but something about food and clothes and the the tv is cool because the tv outline is black and there is a roof in the restaurant which is pretty rare so that's a star. Nice place. There's a sign at the front blasting you with big bold "NO!!! NO!!!!!! NO!!!!!! No outside food or beverages" It's childish and pedantic and someone obviously is over correcting for something that went wrong. Regardless- it's stupid to greet your customers this way when you're in the hospitality business. In fact, I have a medial condition (several -- all related to chemo radiation I received for stage 4 head and neck cancer) and it requires me to usually have a bottle of water on me at all times. I'd forgotten it this time but did notice their sign at the front even pictured a water bottle and it made me wonder if that would have been a big fight upon entry. But. Other than the sign...the place was good. Service was actually amazing. Constantly in touch with the table and extremely accommodating and both people we interacted with this morning were fantastic. Be Careful very careful nex time you want to Sit Down in ths Restaurant! I Can not believe as I was attempting to eat breakfast and was siting facing the very small waiting area only 3 seats...very busy Sunday Morning and have a "Righteous Bit Bull Ower arrive with this very large Dog" decided that it would be fine to sit down in 1 seat and put his HUGE Dog in the 2nd with only 3 seats, anyone arriving would have to sit next to this Bit Bull for almost 15 mintues before Waitress could find a seat outside for these 2. Find this unaccetable and rude behavior from the owner of this dog. - even thous there were older womand and families with children waiting- it was find with the Staff and This Dog Owner to take up the Waiting area.... I will under no circumstances if I never had Breakfast again in Half Moon Bay go Back to this restaudrant...not knowing what was sitting in my seat before I arrived. read more

This restaurant actually has really great food, they are clean, and usually have friendly staff. However, when the wait staff talks badly about a customer in Spanish, with another customer at the same counter. Thinking that, that individual doesn't understand, but does; is in really poor taste and should be addressed. Even as I was leaving, the only female waitress started talking about me with the customers--whom I knew--and as I walked out the door, had to tell them that I understood them the entire time I was there. I was going to stay and eat but was so uncomfortable that I asked them to pack my salad up. I will NEVER go back to this place for fear of being insulted as I'm being served, just in another language. And if you're wondering, I was the only other person in the restaurant. read more
