What a neat and fantastic little surprise in such an obscure shopping center! My friend and I were in the area, and we were researching good places to eat after a long day of hiking and driving -- A lot of local restaurants were packed, so we had a hard time finding a place until Taste Cafe popped up in our search! Previously, we had been in this shopping center before for the Safeway, however we had no idea this amazing restaurant was here! Upon entry, they have decorated the wall with clocks displaying different time zones. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. I was surprised there weren't more people, but it is tucked away in the corner of a shopping center. I ordered the Moon Burger (amazing) and my friend ordered a Tuna Melt. Although their breakfast menu looked delicious, we were craving something a little more hearty. Nothing like a large, delicious, and well-cooked meal to get your afternoon started! Service was good and the menu items were all very reasonably priced. I would love to come back here next time I'm in the area, as I love finding the eateries that are more inconspicuous and fun! read more

Delicious flavor! Reasonable prices. Quality ingredients. My hubby and I stopped in on our way home from a weekend in Pescadero. He had the chilaquiles (the version that's spicier), I had an omelette. His was fantastic and mine was very tasty and filling. Our server was Isabella and she was extremely attentive and kind. read more

Came here with a friend because Mavericks across the street was unexpectedly closed. Have to say it doesn't compare and we left feeling like it was lackluster. I got the breakfast burrito and it was fine but not super flavorful. My friend got the breakfast sandwich and it was just so massive and had a super thick piece of ham in it which made it hard to pick up. Service was good and inside was clean but overall the flavors and freshness just wasn't there at all. We will continue to go to Mavericks when we can. read more

They did massive remodeling in here since the White Elephant moved out. It's much larger and more open. Taste Cafe opened this past Saturday. It is a diner/coffee shop type place, which is open only for breakfast and lunch. Wait staff is very naturally pleasant. I got a tuna melt. Tasted good, but was a little too full of tuna, making it messy to eat. As you can see from the menu, it's pretty traditional fare with some added Mexican touches, especially in the breakfast items. I ordered a roasted turkey sandwich for Thanksgiving lunch. The ingredients were fresh and moist, and the cranberry relish went together well with the sandwich. It also came with a choice of side, which I opted for hash browns. It consisted of shredded hash browns reformed into a rectangular pancake, crispy on the outside, which made for an interesting taste and texture. Called Sunday morning at 9am for a pick up order. It was ready in 10 minutes. We ordered the chicken and waffles, sausage, bacon, and swiss and ham croissant. Food was ready hot and portion sizes are decent for the price. Great and friendly customer service. My only recommendation would have been to have my croissant warmed up. read more

Atmosphere: At the Taste Cafe, you can eat indoors or outdoors, depending on your preference. The inside is modern, with plenty of open seating. You aren't sitting anywhere close to anyone else. Outside, you have the option of traditional restaurant tables or picnic tables. I opted for the picnic tables because how fun is that. Taste Cafe Coffee: A The coffee was brewed hot and fresh, and tasted great. I couldn't ask for a better coffee if I tried. In fact, I drank a lot. Food: The Taste Cafe menu has everything a traditional diner would have but in a more upscale way. Since it's mostly only open for breakfast and lunch, that's what the majority of the menu is catered towards. Some of the fun items that stuck out include the smoked salmon crepe, taste burrito, or bananas foster pancakes. I wasn't sure what I was in the mood for and ended up ordering a chepes benedict. It was a benedict with bacon, avocado, pico de gallo, and two poached eggs on an English muffin. I also choose hash browns as my side. In all, it was delicious, although I do wish there was more food, and I left still slightly hungry. Service: The waitress at the Taste Cafe was friendly, and the food came out fast. Not only that, but everything felt safe and clean. The entire staff was wearing masks, and I felt comfortable dining in. It was one of the few places I've been it looked safe to also diner inside as well. The open-air and evenly spaced tables felt welcoming. Overall Thoughts: I liked the Taste Cafe, and it was a good stop. I'll definitely be back when I'm in Half Moon Bay again. read more

Great service... which it's what convinced me not to give it three stars. My omelette wasn't supposed to come with bell peppers, but they surprised me with their generosity. (I hate bell peppers). The mac and cheese options are cool... they tasted better the next day (so save some). Good pancakes. Weak lattes. We found this little gem by recommendation of a local. I had the breakfast burrito and my husband had the chilaquiles. Both were delicious, but the best part of the experience was the waitress, Elizabeth. She was so so sweet! Smiled easily, and was very helpful and kind. She and her 2 coworkers sang happy birthday to me (it was my 50th) while presenting us with a candle-lit Belgian waffle :). Such a nice low key start to our day. Go support these people! This review is based mainly on the customer service. The food is great. I've gotten the shrimp crepe and the El Patron Benedict. Both were really good. I'm local to HMB and came here with my husband, son, and friend for breakfast. As soon as we walked in the door, one of the employees there stopped me and informed me they don't allow any outside food or beverage in the restaurant. Luckily this didn't apply to the milk or cheerios I had for my 21-month-old son, just the coffee I had in my reusable container. We ended up spending about $90 there, so it's just kind of ridiculous that they're so uptight about someone bringing a drink in. If they could lighten up it would feel more welcoming. Otherwise the food is great and there's plenty of seating. Worth trying for sure. read more

Waitstaff have bad attitudes. Very unfriendly and unwelcoming. No customer service skills whatsoever. Food is okay, but hash browns are way too salty. They charge extra for using a credit card. WTF??? I guess it's their way of getting customers to pay cash so the restaurant doesn't have to report their transactions to the IRS. SHADY!!! read more

Walked in late morning after an easy hike with some friends. The restaurant was bustling when we came in, so it took about 15 minutes to obtain seating. Pretty quickly, someone was there to take drink orders. Everyone in my party ordered coffee and water, which took at least 15 minutes to arrive at the table, which I consider a relatively long time for a breakfast diner. I ordered a meatball sandwich with garlic oregano fries, and both my friends ordered the all meat scramble. Each entree was ~$15. The food was somewhat disappointing. I thoroughly enjoyed the fries, but the "house made" roll on the sandwich was soggy and generic, and the meatballs and cheese tasted microwaved. To be perfectly honest, I prefer the taste of a meatball sub from Subway. The meat scramble, according to my friends, was "pathetically small and undercooked". To summarize, what made our experience mediocre was the combination of slow service and overpriced, underwhelming food. read more

While visiting the Bay Area we came across this very good cozy restaurant with very tasty food. Excellent service. The chorizo chilaquiles were the bomb. Reminded me of Mexico. For the food - I just have to be honest and say it was nothing spectacular at all and the portion size was incredibly small for the value. I ordered the old town scramble and it was lackluster. The short rib eggs Benedict were incredibly bland - the hollandaise sauce literally had no flavor. But the short ribs were good. Best part of the meal was the pancakes but pancakes everywhere are essentially the same.

My wife asked me to ask them if there was a pooper scooper because there were a couple piles of dog poop on the play area grass. I went back to the register and just let them know there was dog poop out by the tables on the grass. She said she knew and would have someone clean it up soon. I said thanks. As I walked out of the restaurant and past the outdoor pick up window I hear her say to the other workers "you know what I hate is when people get here before we open and start asking me to clean stuff up." First, I wasn't early. You were open. Second, it's a health issue and I felt I was very nice in how I kindly let you know there was an issue that you would probably want to address. So I return to the tables and start to realize how unkept and dirt the whole place really is. Please see the attached photos. Where I probably wouldn't have left a review or photos before, the rude and incorrect comment about me letting them know there was dog poop where kids play before they eat made me decide this deserved a review. Please see the attached photos. The cashier/manager? at the very least deserves significant retraining. Maybe a list needs to be made of specific tasks a staff member is responsible for every day before opening and that staff member would initial that they completed the tasks. You know... 1) check for and clean up all dog poop on site. 2) wipe down all tables and benches. 3) clean up all trash, including all little bits of food, napkins, pens, etc off the ground. 4) check all napkin dispensers that they are full and tops are on and they are in the same place on all tables. The poop photo is the last one listed. I couldn't seem to get it first in the list. I didn't take photos of everything (more poop and trash) because I hadn't yet decided I would write a review. But here it is.

The sugar packets are very yum yummy and the cheese in my toes were extra yummy because of how good this place was and you should come here because you get free water and stuff and you get to eat food but you have to pay and stuff so like yeah and sugar packets and the clock is cool because it is a golden color and there's like 10 clocks and you have to pay to eat which is cool. Nice place. There's a sign at the front blasting you with big bold "NO!!! NO!!!!!! NO!!!!!! No outside food or beverages" It's childish and pedantic and someone obviously is over correcting for something that went wrong. Regardless- it's stupid to greet your customers this way when you're in the hospitality business. In fact, I have a medial condition (several -- all related to chemo radiation I received for stage 4 head and neck cancer) and it requires me to usually have a bottle of water on me at all times. I'd forgotten it this time but did notice their sign at the front even pictured a water bottle and it made me wonder if that would have been a big fight upon entry. But. Other than the sign...the place was good. Service was actually amazing. Constantly in touch with the table and extremely accommodating and both people we interacted with this morning were fantastic. Be Careful very careful nex time you want to Sit Down in ths Restaurant! I Can not believe as I was attempting to eat breakfast and was siting facing the very small waiting area only 3 seats...very busy Sunday Morning and have a "Righteous Bit Bull Ower arrive with this very large Dog" decided that it would be fine to sit down in 1 seat and put his HUGE Dog in the 2nd with only 3 seats, anyone arriving would have to sit next to this Bit Bull for almost 15 mintues before Waitress could find a seat outside for these 2. Find this unaccetable and rude behavior from the owner of this dog. - even thous there were older womand and families with children waiting- it was find with the Staff and This Dog Owner to take up the Waiting area.... This restaurant actually has really great food, they are clean, and usually have friendly staff. However, when the wait staff talks badly about a customer in Spanish, with another customer at the same counter. Thinking that, that individual doesn't understand, but does; is in really poor taste and should be addressed. Even as I was leaving, the only female waitress started talking about me with the customers--whom I knew--and as I walked out the door, had to tell them that I understood them the entire time I was there. I was going to stay and eat but was so uncomfortable that I asked them to pack my salad up. I will NEVER go back to this place for fear of being insulted as I'm being served, just in another language. And if you're wondering, I was the only other person in the restaurant. read more

We were confused because we saw half the people bussing their own tables since there was no signage, but they told us they would come and clean the tables. We also got some dessert from the counter when placing our initial order but didn't actually get it so we went back up, but the guy was confused and just said "what do you want" and then when we reminded, he said "oh I was waiting for you to come back up", which was awkward for everyone. Desserts weren't the best tasting (VERY sweet), so I'd stick to the entrees. Overall, food: decent taste, good portions, clean atmosphere. Service: could use work, hoping we just came in on an off day. If you want nice service, Ciya down the street is definitely the place.
