Came in on a weekday after some errands looking to start my evening with some happy hour and decided to give this place a try. I love the ambiance, host seated me in a timely manner and my server, Ramsey, gave me a thorough run down of the happy hour menu. Super sweet, very patient, recommended me to try the habanero flavor and buffalo (i said i liked spicy). I noticed seating outside too that overlooks the lake, but I chose to stay inside! I got myself a margarita and a lemon drop for my drinks, which came out in orderly fashion with my wings. The mango habanero were a 5/5, I loved the flavor, and it wasn't overly spicy just the right amount of kick to sweetness. The buffalo i'd give it a 4/5, great twang from the acidity and the way it coated the breading was chef's kiss. Great place, great service! This was my second time at Taste Kitchen. There was a mix up in our reservation but they were able to seat us outside. The patio was beautiful, overlooking the water, but it was way too hot. We were a group of 9 and they were able to move us indoors. Service was a little slow but they took good care of us. It was Father's Day so a little crowded. We weren't in a rush. Gratuity is included, I remembered that from last time. Kareem was our waiter and was attentive. Jamie also checked on us throughout the evening. I ordered appetizer of breaded wings - they were delicious. For my entree, the waffles and jerk chicken was a standout. I was able to customize my waffles. Excellent choice, I got the pecan praline glaze and it took it up 50 notches! So good and I didn't need syrup. The chicken was small but enough for me. I still took 1 waffle and piece of chicken home for later. I just can't eat that much at one time. Originally wanted the New Orleans platter but they did not have dirty rice. Only sub was white rice or mashed potatoes. I completely changed my selection at that point. Also had the spritzer with vodka, champagne and sparkling water. It was delicious and so refreshing. Every time I come here it's always a pleasure. I only come on Sundays and I make a reservation so there's no wait time. Danielle and Dee are great servers, very attentive and friendly. I love ordering the fried cauliflower! The Cajun pasta is pretty good too, especially with extra cheese. The red velvet waffles are a 10/10 hands down. The pecan praline waffles are just as good. Our chicken was fried to perfection! Just a nice experience all around. Happy hour food: chicken wings, $1 each, must order 8 minimum. Can choose 2 of the 8 different flavors for an order of 8. Wings were crispy, flavorful & the general tso sweet/spicy was my favorite. The lamb chops, were $6 each, must order 3 minimum. The chops were terrific...medium rare, very well seasoned & tender. Some may feel they are a little small & maybe not the best value but the taste to me is undeniably wonderful. Dinner: My blackened catfish was cooked perfectly! Soft, supple well seasoned. Just good, period! The collard greens were also super tasty. Happy hour drinks: my happy hour drinks were surprisingly not made with well liquor. The drinks lean toward the sweeter side for me but once I asked for "less sweet" my lemon drop martini & side car were just fine. Service was good. Our server, Aziz, was personable & attentive. Finally got a location on our side! I'll be brief cause if you know me, you know Taste Bar is my absolute fave. We went for happy hour for the first time and it was cool. We had the chicken wings, fire. Lamb chops, always perfect and the lobster bites which were tasty as well. I will say the cocktails could use some help though. Maybe it's just me, but the lemon drops were way too thick and sugary, could've been the syrups they used, idk. I wasn't a fan. But the hosts were super friendly and checked on us quite often which is always nice. And it's cute in there, it's smaller than the original, but they laid it out nicely. Visited this location twice, once inside and the other outside by the lake. There is a longer seating time for outside. Everything I've tried has been good: the burger, catfish and grits, pasta, and fries. My signature drink, Lychee Love, was made perfectly both times. All you need is one drink to feel good. I stopped by Taste Bar in Sugar Land for a birthday brunch and overall had a decent experience, with some clear highlights and a few frustrations. First, having reservations definitely helped cut down the wait time, which I appreciated. However, the seating arrangement left a lot to be desired. We were placed at a table directly between two other tables that appeared to be part of the same party. It honestly felt like we were unintentionally sitting in the middle of someone else's group conversation. The noise level in the restaurant was also extremely high. Between the music and the crowd, we practically had to yell just to have a normal conversation. On top of that, because of where our table was positioned, servers and other guests constantly had to squeeze between the tables to walk through. We had to keep scooting in and adjusting our chairs to make room, which made the experience feel cramped and uncomfortable. Service was a bit slow as well. Our waitress didn't take our order until one of the neighboring tables had already finished their meal. We noticed booth seating available toward the back and asked if we could switch, but we were told those tables were reserved. Interestingly, those booths remained empty for the entire time we were there. Now for the highlight -- the food and drinks. I ordered the chicken and waffles, and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was well-seasoned, crispy, and flavorful, while the waffle had just the right amount of sweetness to balance everything out. And the cocktail? Let's just say the bartender did not come to play. I ordered the lavender blueberry margarita, and babyyyy... that drink was STRONG. Whoever was behind the bar made sure the liquor was present. As someone who only drinks socially, one was more than enough for me. Overall, I'd say the experience was decent. The food and drinks were definitely the highlight, but the seating arrangement and service timing could use some improvement. When we arrived, we had a reservation for five people, but the server initially tried to seat us at a table for four. When we mentioned that our reservation was for five, she attempted to blame another hostess--even though she was the one who had taken our reservation. That lack of accountability was not a great first impression. We were eventually seated at a clean table on the patio. The ambiance was decent--the breeze made it comfortable, and we were able to watch the basketball game, which was nice. Overall, the atmosphere was alright. As for the food and service, this is where things really fell short. We ordered drinks and were informed the kitchen was backed up, but it still took about an hour and a half to receive our food. When it finally arrived, my aunt was given the wrong chicken dish. She didn't make a big deal about it since we were all very hungry, but shortly after she had already taken a bite, a staff member returned and asked her to put the chicken back on the plate so they could bring the correct order. That raised a serious sanitation concern. Throughout the visit, there seemed to be a lack of communication and accountability from the staff. Maybe Sundays are just more hectic, but the overall experience felt disorganized and overwhelming. I don't want to be completely negative because the patio ambiance was pleasant, but I'd suggest possibly visiting during the week when things may be more prepared and organized. The food is good but a little inconsistent, I've been twice ordered both something I've liked along with something new, went on a Sunday evening and a Saturday afternoon. Waited the same amount of time both visits but the food on Saturday afternoon was hit or miss. I'd go again to even out the score but not rush back. The food was delicious and all staff members were very polite and helpful, but the service still needs some help. I'm hoping that because it has recently opened, they are still working out the kinks, but it leaves little reason to return on the chance that it will. Everyone's meals came out at a different time, and we didn't have silverware to eat the food once it came. Things we asked for when we ordered (extra butter/syrup) didn't come with our meal and had to ask for twice before it arrived. I had to ask for my mimosa twice before it came. You have to give your name and phone number. You can't just go in and grab a seat at the bar. They sat customers at the actual bar. Our server was friendly. We ordered a lavender blueberry margarita, Patron margarita, chicken wings, calamari, greens, Gouda Mac & cheese with bacon, chicken & waffles ($3 extra for tenders) also fried okra but they were out. The greens came out first. We didn't get any silverware. The food runner grabbed some off another table. The greens were sweet and salty with a slightly spicy kick. I had breakfast at Taste in Sugar Land yesterday and felt compelled to share what a fantastic experience it was. From the moment we sat down, Delano set the tone. He was friendly, welcoming, attentive, and communicated so well throughout our meal. The kind of service that makes you feel genuinely glad you chose that restaurant. Then there was Lucid, who absolutely kept the table entertained--especially our birthday girl, Joy! We were seated at a high table, and Lucid made sure Joy was taken care of anytime she needed to get down or move around. He was helpful, engaging, and clearly enjoys making guests feel comfortable and valued. To top it all off, Scott (the manager, I believe) stopped by to check on us. At one point we accidentally knocked over a drink while laughing and having a good time, and Scott immediately stepped in and replaced it without hesitation. That kind of professionalism and hospitality really stands out. Honestly, this was one of the best restaurant experiences I've had in a while. Great service makes all the difference, and the team at Taste delivered. If you're in the Sugar Land area, I highly recommend stopping by Taste. And when you do, say hello to Delano, Lucid, and Scott--they're the kind of people who remind you what great service is supposed to look like. So they've been open 3 months now. We've never been to either location. We went around noon on a Saturday. They were a good level of busy, but able to space out tables so they weren't on top of each other. We were seated in about 5 minutes. The menu is mostly Cajun but anyone can find something great to order. Our server was Danielle and she was amazing! She knew the menu, could describe and predict how it would come. When we got our food it was hot and correct! My husband had the catfish platter, fried and substituted grits for the fries. It also came w cornbread or biscuit, he chose cornbread and it came out from a waffle press. He asked for butter and honey and loved it! I got the catfish and grits. The catfish fillet was big, flaky and flavorful. The grits were amazing! They have a layer of Cajun cream sauce as well as bacon and green onions on top. I love grits and these were probably the best I've had! The atmosphere was a little dark with pretty loud r&b music. There are lots of tables by the lake too! We are going to go back for happy hour next time! We had 2 managers visit our table, which we had no complaints. We came in expecting to enjoy a belated Galentine's happy hour on Monday, 2/16/26 at the new location, but the experience fell far short. First, we waited nearly 10 minutes to be seated because the hostess was moving extremely slowly while seating the four couples ahead of us. After finally being seated, it took another 15 minutes before a server even came by to take our drink order. The manager briefly stopped to say someone would be with us soon, and yet it took another 5 minutes for her to show up. We ordered and our drinks and happy hour food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, but the jerk lamb chops were overcooked. We still ate them, though we later noticed on the bill that they were rung in as well done--we were never asked our temperature preference. At their other two locations (midtown and downtown), I don't recall being asked for a temperature preference, nor have we ever received them well done by default. The loaded fries were very good!! Shortly after we finished eating, our server dropped off the check without us asking for it. When we flagged her down to order another round of drinks and some items to go, she informed us of a 1.5‑hour table limit--something neither the hostess nor her mentioned at any point. The manager then came over to reiterate the time limit during peak hours, even though this policy was never communicated to us and is not posted on their website or social media. I even mentioned to the hostess we were there specifically for happy hour (4-7p) and she said we could sit anywhere in the restaurant for it which she sat us in the main dining area instead of the bar area that I expected. I've been to many restaurants in Houston with time limits and I'm fine with it if I know ahead of time so I can plan. At that point, we decided to pay and leave rather than get moved to another table so we could order more drinks and food to go. In addition, the happy hour old fashioneds were initially charged at full price, though that was corrected when we mentioned it to the server. Still, the overall experience was quite disappointing enough that we have no plans to return to this location. Be warned on time limits during peak times and remember to advise server of temperature preference of lamb chops even if the server fails to ask even tho I've never mentioned a preference at the other locations. read more

I made reservations online but you have to put a credit card on file to make a reservation, which I'm not a fan of. It's a deterrent for good patrons. The parking was free, which is always a plus. We arrived 10 minutes early and were seated immediately. Our waitress was nice but she never came back and checked on us after taking our order. They have happy hour from 4-7, Monday-Friday. However, we were only able to order one drink because it took 22 minutes to get the first order of drinks and the waitress came back 5 minutes before happy hour ended. The drinks were weak so we decided it wasn't worth spending the money and waiting another 22 minutes. The restaurant wasn't very busy but the service was very slow. We never even got a refill on water. One of the bartenders was patting his hair and then started making drinks. One of the servers/bar backs was really rubbing her ears, nose, and scratching her head/hair, and then touching the drinks to take to tables. The manager was walking around socializing and didn't bother to help his team. I would also like to recommend they use tablecloths or coasters because the condensation from the water glasses was leaking on the table and the floor. The manager offered us a high-top table and said if we didn't want it, we would have to wait. That was disappointing, especially since there appeared to be other tables that could have been combined to accommodate our party. And we were on time! Our server did not check on us consistently, and we waited quite a while just to place an order for a second round of drinks. It took even longer for the drinks to actually arrive. We (7 ladies) came to celebrate a friend's milestone birthday at happy hour on the patio! Our server was Kareem and he took excellent care of us. The Lemondrop Martini was fabulous- especially because they could add the jalapeño we requested. Another friend liked her frozen margarita and the other girl had a frozen drink with cognac, peach syrup and champagne but I don't know what it was called. The appetizers were all fantastic especially the fries, fried okra, chicken wings and sliders. They surprised us with a big slice of rainbow cake with fluffy white icing and a sparkler candle. We had a wonderful time and I hope this restaurant does well because the location is beautiful and Sugar Land needs more good places to enjoy a special night out! read more
