I was told I couldn't get my shake with blueberries when I usually swap out whey protein because of my extreme dairy allergy For blueberries. She came off very rude! Surprised this place is not rated higher but I will say there is a lot of extra unused space which creates a loud atmosphere when the place is crowded. And probably why some of their items are pricier than normal. Their location is pretty popular as well so it makes parking challenging, but they do have a lot in the back that validates. That being said my family and I enjoyed our selections and would definitely go back. My husband ordered the Freemason and appreciated that the chicken salad was not overly dressed with mayonnaise. However, he loves his condiments so he would probably order a side of Italian dressing with his lol. I got the farm stand grain bowl, which I thought was fantastic but the roasted chicken I added to it was disappointing. I think because it was roasted, but then refrigerated it got a gamey chicken aftertaste, which kind of messed with the flavors of the salad. It was the first time I've never finished the protein in a bowl I've ordered, which felt like a big waste of $ but I really loved everything else in the bowl-could use more grapes though . The goat cheese was a perfect compliment with a creamy flavor that was not too sharp or distracting. I'm not a fan of strong goat cheese. Overall, taste is a great concept. I am a huge fan of the blackened tuna croissant. It is seasonal, so I have been patiently waiting for it to return. As a pescatarian, the tuna sandwich is perfect and I love that it comes on a croissant and with the wasabi twist. Sure wish it was available year round! I have ordered this sandwich many, many times and have loved it. The last time I ordered, however, there were large chunks of chicken in my tuna salad. It was disappointing to see this as I immediately could tell the difference in texture and color. The entire sandwich had chicken in it, not sure how they didn't notice. Overpriced for what you get. My turkey wrap was mostly veggies. Cheese was forgotten. And when you ask for mayo on the side, that means don't put it on the sandwich too!! They also front run all the DoorDash orders, so if you place an order for pickup yourself, be prepared to wait around (15 minutes past pickup time in this case). TASTE seems to have loads of polarizing reviews -- resulting in its average rating. You can add my vote to the 5-star bandwagon. My experience yesterday was stellar all around. I was at St. Mary's campus a few blocks away for a doctor's appointment and it took way longer than expected, so I ordered carry out from TASTE to bring in to work in lieu of a lunch break. I ordered via their website and checked out as a guest; paid online so pick up was easy. I parked out front and walked inside about 15 minutes after placing my order online. I was immediately drawn into the cookie area (darn you, sweet tooth) upon noting the Byrd's cookies options. I *love* Byrd's cookies from Savannah. They are my favorite crunchy cookies. And they're being sold for $6.99 a pack, which is two dollars cheaper than I've seen elsewhere around here. Very nice. I also purchased a CBD lemonade, which was atrocious. Not TASTE's fault on that front. Learned my lesson. For my sandwich, I chose the Lynnhaven (roasted chicken breast, sassy southern pimento cheese, hardwood smoked bacon, baby spinach, basil mayo on Italian flatbread, passed on the tomato). I ate it about an hour later and it was delicious. A perfectly made sandwich, and the ciabatta pulled it all together nicely. I also ordered a snickerdoodle cookie and Oreo bar. Both were great. I just finished the cookie for breakfast this morning, and it was still super soft and fresh. The inside of TASTE is well done -- open and clean. They also have a nice patio area for better weather days. Fun, quality grocery items, and also grab and go sandwiches already made. The cashier was friendly, bonded with me over the Byrd's cookies, and wished me a lovely day. All around, great experience and I'd recommend TASTE to others. They skimp on sandwich ingredients-one slice of turkey and one slice of cheese and a few pepperoncinis on a sandwich seems too stingy for what you're paying for. I first learned of TASTE while in VA Beach so when I realized there was one locally I was ECSTATIC. I've never had anything bad from here. The freshness and quality of the food you get is well worth the price. It's so fun to check out all of the goodies around the store as well. They have my favorite Kombucha from Blue Ridge Bucha as well. If you decide to eat in, the place is huge and does have a small outside patio with a couple of umbrellas. Taste is definitely tasty! My friend suggested this place because she loves the one in VA Beach. We've been have lunch together every month for 20 years! We've had some great lunches and some so-so lunches. This one was in between! Here's why: Service: counter service, no problem, no frills, no plates, your wrapper is your plate. Walk up, order your food, take a number and they deliver it to you, similar to Panera. Our cashier, Bella, was extremely pleasant and accommodating, what a sweetheart! She gave me a cup to try the apricot tea, her fav item in the store! It was good! Thanks Bella! Atmosphere: what? Can you hear me now? Yep! It's that loud! Chaotic and confusing seating. Kids running around, unsupervised. I must admit, we came at noon, a popular time. Patrons were carrying their table numbers, hovering over everywhere looking for seats. The industrial décor didn't help with the sound, on the contrary, every noise was amplified. Bella suggested coming after 2:00, when the crowd dies down. There wasn't enough floor staff to clear or clean tables. For the money, I think they should have staff picking up trays and wiping tables, so it could get a little funky in there with all the congestion. If I come back, I'll be sure to come at earlier or later - they open from 11:00-4:00. Parking: they are in the process of construction so right now, parking is a pain. Food: great food! The sandwiches we had were off the chaaaaiinnn... (most under $10.00) I had the Lynnhaven. Tender Roasted chicken, sassy southern pimento cheese, spinach, bacon, tomato and basil mayo! I chose a croissant instead of the ciabatta. It was crazy good! My friend had her standby, the Hilltop, turkey, provolone and house dressing on French bread. That dressing was amazing! Breakfast sandwiches served all day! They have boxed lunches, platters and they cater. You can also create you own sandwich. The salads looked tasty too! They also have gelato, baked goods and tons of sides! The drink bar has a huge selection of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cider, juices, smoothies, shakes and frappes. And they also offer wine and beer. Basically, the menu rocks! Store: the specialty foods and drinks for sale caught my eye! I bought some of that delicious house dressing, popcorn, some candies, artichoke bruschetta and a few other items. Think Williams Sonoma meets Panera. Conclusion: I'd come back on an off time. They've only been opened a couple weeks and have some kinks to work out. The food is good, I like their mission, but the place itself isn't very comfortable. Probably easier to take out. Met a coworker for lunch here because they have plenty of outdoor seating. They have three patio areas and my section was almost empty. They had music playing on the outdoor speakers and the host even offered to grab me water while I waited. There is no waiter service, when you are ready to order you go inside and can choose from either several grab-and-go options or made-to-order items. We ordered two sandwiches and only had to wait about 10 minutes for them to be ready...they even brought them out to our table for us. The food was delicious, I will definitely be back to try some other sandwiches. read more

I think Taste is losing it... I've always rationalized their premium prices by consoling myself with the overall size and quality of their sandwiches. But recently, things have been trending downwards. Both quality and quantity of their sandwiches has been deteriorating. Today, my "take-away" turkey and Swiss sandwich was missing the turkey and my wife's BLT had but two pieces of bacon. I know that restaurants in general are challenged to find capable staffers, and that inflated food costs are also a serious issue for the industry, but poor quality control and skimping on ingredients are hardly winning strategies. I did attempt to contact the store by phone to remedy the situation in real time, but they don't take calls. I think my Taste patronage days are behind me... Maybe you'll have better luck, but I wouldn't bet on it. read more

Don't really understand why TASTE has 3 stars. I'd avoided it for that reason. I, and many others who thought the same as me, was missing out! I am always looking for places with plenty of seating, strong wifi, plugs, and good food to hunker down and get a couple of hours of work done. TASTE fits the bill and more. I thought every employee that I encountered was lovely and I had a great experience from start to finish. I ordered a cobb salad and juice. My total came to a little over $20 which was definitely pricey, but I knew a place like that would be. The cobb salad stood out to me which is hard for a cobb to do! It was lovely. The bacon was especially crisp and delicious and so was the ranch! They have some of the best ranch I've ever tasted. Overall, this is a great - albeit loud - place to stay for a few hours and work. I was nearby today and needed to kill some time and grab a bite to eat. I have always wanted to try Taste, so figured today would be a good day to stop in. I ordered the Lynnhaven sandwich, a bag of chips, and a fountain drink which came out to $17. It was a little bit more than what I was expecting to pay but the sandwich was pretty tasty and so was my lemonade, especially being that it was a fountain drink. There is plenty of seating, both indoor and outdoor, and their wifi is pretty strong. Took away a few stars for cleanliness as there was a bag of trash leaking by the trash cans and no one bothered to put up a wet floor sign or clean it while I was there. read more

This was recommended to me by a friend. It was super crowded and took a while to order. Since we ordered sandwiches we thought it would be quick to get our food but it took a long time. The food was fine when we got it but nothing special. I thought the portions were small so I was still hungry even after spending roughly $10 on my meal. Inside the place is really cool. It looks like a food hall with different stations (coffee, ice cream, sandwiches, etc) and there are a ton of interesting foods to get. There is also prepared food that you can take to go if you don't want to wait. There is a nice patio for when it's nice outside. I've visited this location 3 times now and one thing that is consistently left to be desired: quality food prep/effecient service. To start, though: the pros - I'll note that I'm a huge TASTE fan, overall. Anytime I visited the Norfolk area, the sandwiches, salads, etc. are always on point. The market is a fun addition and always offers tasty things to browse while you wait for food. Also this is one of the few places I'll order soda because it's just so darn good, not too sweet, and uses real sugar. Also, this location is a great addition to the Libbie neighborhood. Really light and airy inside - an ideal spot for catching up with friends, picking up last minute items for guests, or hunkering down to do some work/reading/people-watching if that's your jam. Room for improvement: I ususally order sandwiches here and they always seem to be haphazardly slapped together. My go-to is the Northender. I opt for no bacon due to a pork allergy, which they accomodate for just fine. However, the turkey meat was almost rolled into a ball and plopped in a heap in the middle of the sandwich. It makes eating it awkward and uneven. This time around, the avocado was bad (brown throughout and mushy texture). I'm not one for "nitpicking", especially with a new place still maybe trying to get their grounding, but I could swear that someone took a bite out of my tomato (see picture). Lastly, the service is on the slower side. No one seems to be moving with a purpose to serve to accomdoate the many folks that are noticably on their lunch break and maybe pressed for time. Not saying it's painfully slow or anything, just an observation. I'm willing to give this spot a couple more tries since in the past I have really enjoyed the food, menu, vibe, etc. plus I've been looking forward to a Richmond TASTE! I just hope that management does take into consideration customer feedback because it seems that others have had similar experiences. I have been going to Taste for as long as I can remember. Started at the VA Beach location and have been to all of the others. I live in DC so stop in Richmond Every Time I drive south. Went on Thursday and it was a lack luster experience. I was there at 5pm, they had run out of chicken salad and brie so I modified my sandwich. I ordered it in French bread to go. When I went to eat it, my now curry chicken salad was on white bread (okay, not my choice but I was still unfazed), until I picked it up. The bread was stale. I love this store and will stop in again on my way north and give it another chance. read more

This place just came to Richmond and has been super busy since it opened. We went on a Tuesday at 12:30 and the line was almost out the door. We only had to wait 10 minutes or so to order and another 10 to get the food. We ordered the quinoa salad wrap and the beach club which were both excellent. It is almost impossible to find a good sandwich in Richmond but this place is definitely the best I have tried so far. The bread is just so good that no other place I have gone can compare. The atmosphere is nice and the staff is friendly. I will definitely be going back. I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to libbie market again. I came in expecting slow service, but after 45 minutes of waiting I was getting antsy and so decided to inquire. Apparently they lost my ticket! They were really nice about it and offered free cookies and gelato, but it still soured my experience. The food itself was just ok. I got the tidewater which is essentially just country ham on top of chicken salad. The ingredients were quality and tasted good, but the sandwich wasn't very well crafted. They either need to decrease the amount of chicken salad or increase the amount of ham, because the ham was there in appearance only. Also, the sandwich had way too much dressing on it, which also wasn't doing it any favors. What I did like about the place was the vibe. That, and the flavored tea options. It would be a really great place if the sandwiches and service were decent. I'll be back, but they really need some time to work out all of the kinks. read more
