After getting my quote for a two tiered butter cream I was pleasantly surprised at the price of the cake. Very rude owner and employees. Cake was subpar and had many imperfections such as cracks, fingerprints, and dents on the cake. When pointed out at the store the owner stated that they were unwilling to fix it, and that they were homemade cakes so there were bound to be imperfections. When brought home we called to speak to the owner to voice our concerns, she would not work with us even though the cake was over $400, but the owner rudely told us to make our own cake if we did not like the outcome. This is my second time ordering from Tasteful Cakes. Last year my experience was amazing. Sweet staff, creative, took time to explore ideas/ options with me for my son's cake. Fantastic experience. This year my experience with Hannah was the same. Super sweet girl. My son loves the show Stranger Things so i found some cakes online that had waffles going around the border of the cake. Hannah quoted me prices and said to me "you'd save a lot of money if you bring in your own waffles." Save money!!?? My ears are wide open now at this point lol i asked what kind of waffles and she said "any kind of frozen waffles like eggo waffles would work because all we're going to do is shave them down anyway!" Perfect, music to my ears. I ordered my son's cake on Monday with a Sunday pick up date. Hannah asked me to pay for the cake in full since it was the week of. I didn't remember that policy last year so i only had $100 on me. That was no problem she told me to call in with the rest by 2pm on Tuesday (the next day) perfect! No biggie. That same night i called in & paid more money which left $43 to pay by Tuesday at 2pm. I had to work Tuesday so i had my mom go in person to pay the remaining $43 and to drop off the eggo waffles and here is where the problem fell. My mom gets there at 4:30 on Tuesday and is basically reprimanded by an older lady who works there. She says to my mom "this should've been paid by 2pm" ok it's only 4:30, had no idea this would be that big of a deal. She then tells my mom "you know we get stiffed on cakes so often so we've gotten real strict around here." Ok that's unfortunate but don't talk to me about being "stiffed on a cake" when MY SPECIFIC CAKE is being paid for in full 4 days ahead of the pick up date. Then she tells my mom that she needs to go back to the store to get different size waffles because the size she got is obviously too big and we should've figured that out by looking at the size of the waffles in the picture. Listen we're not bakers, we were told to get any frozen waffles because they were gonna get shaved down. To me that implied that the size of the waffle didn't matter. We didn't look at the picture and say hmmm maybe we need small waffles... smh So my mom told her that these waffles would just have to work and the lady told her "well we'll have to make the cake topper out of something else then!" Ummm ok, fine! Here's my issue. You guys are in the business of celebrating life. Delivery in regards to communication and perception are everything. Whether it matters to them or not, i happen to be a food blogger. I don't tell people that ahead of time because it shouldn't matter. Businesses should provide stellar service no matter who they are servicing. I understand that we paid our $43 2.5 hours late but our cake pick up date was Sunday. So i can't fathom how our paying $43 2.5 hours late justifies the treatment my mom was given. Also, them getting "stiffed on cakes" is none of the consumers' business. I could see if we paid the remaining balance on Friday or something but 2.5 hours late. Hard to understand on our end. Final notes: i decided to be a return customer this year because not only do their cakes LOOK good, they TASTE good too. Our cake wasn't exactly what we expected due to this lady's issue with the waffle size, but overall the cake looked amazing, tasted amazing, and my son was satisfied. I won't be purchasing another cake from them again though, which is unfortunate because it's close to home and their cakes are consistent, but clearly their customer service isn't and that matters tremendously to me. They have a glass display case that shows off several nice looking individual cakes. They have chocolate based cakes like Oreo cakes, chocolate and caramel cakes and chocolate peanut butter cakes. There are also fruit based individual cakes and pies like strawberry and white chocolate as well as key lime. Individual mousse concoctions are available too like amaretto. Individual slices of their bigger cakes are available like their popular dulce de leche. Petit fours are also on sale here. Their individual cakes vary based on your preferences. Some of their individual cakes utilize a lot of ganache and thick, hard chocolate shell wrappings. They combine to make a very rich dessert and I prefer a lighter cake experience. The cake base they use is good though--flavorful, light and moist. They also use a lot of whipped cream frosting, which I definitely prefer to buttercream. I like their individual cake slices. Their strawberry with white chocolate mousse has a good strawberry flavor and is sweet without being too sweet. Their dulce de leche cake is very good. It it combines chocolate and vanilla cake with light dulce de leche mousse and sticky dulce de leche caramel filling. The cake is topped with whipped cream frosting, chocolate and dulce de leche. The cake is light, sweet and moist. All of the fillings and toppings work together very well. The cake has great, noticeable sweet flavors without being overly sugary, sweet or rich. I do wish they would utilize more of the dulce de leche caramel given how good it is. Tasteful Cakes specializes in fancy special order cakes. They seem to have some of their elaborate cakes ready-to-go in their glass display case. I also noticed a fancy Finding Nemo cake with many of their characters featured as well as one incredibly detailed and intricate Angry Birds cake that someone had pre-ordered. A lot of the cakes here are very personalized so it is no surprise that the staff here is very personable and polite. Service is very good, attentive, friendly, and anticipatory (knowing exactly what customers may need when they come to pick up some of the big and elaborate cakes here). Prices are very high. Individual cakes are very pricey. Their bigger cakes go for a little more than $40, which seems high, but these cakes are quite big and easily serve 12 to 15 people. Tasteful Cakes is a very upscale cake specialty shop. I found several of their cakes to be okay at best, but their dulce de leche is very good to exceptional. This cake shop is a good option for a special occasion (especially if you have them create a specialty cake based on your own idea though I do not know how expensive those cakes get). It happened to be while I was in the planning stages for a baby shower for my big brother and his wife, and I was actually in the market for a cakery. As luck would have it, this is located in Corona where my parents now live. Seemed a bit serendipitous. So, the first chance we got, my mom and I stopped by to get a look at their operation. But then she let us try the butter cream frosting, and then that was why we wanted to buy the cake. I have this theory that "buttercream" has become a figurative concept and that butter is now only for rich people. The rest of us get saddled with shortening. Which is, I mean... Wrong, isn't it? Even though I said I'd never go back, I recently tried this place again because they had such great customer service that I hoped maybe I could find something good. Unfortunately, nothing my sister and I got was good. It's a shame because we went in for a last minute birthday treat for her. Everything was more cream filling and frosting than cake. The banana chips on the banana foster weren't crispy. We found ourselves searching for cake but there were only a few mouthfuls of cake drowning in a sea of dulce de leche and cream filling. I wanted to kick myself for letting the chocolate bowl that it came in seduce me into purchasing it. The dulce de leche cake was hardly cake. Again, I was disappointed to find a few thin layers of cake hidden amongst too much frosting, filling, and dulce de leche. I purchased a chocolate cake thing for my husband (can't remember the name of it) because I was told that it was something brownie lovers would like, and my husband loves brownies. When I asked him what he thought of it, he said it was horrible and asked me why I would buy him something with so much frosting (because he doesn't care for frosting/filling). It was great to be able to taste ~8 flavors of cake at no extra fee and to talk through all our design options (they gave us a lot of great ideas too, after hearing about our theme and vision for the wedding). They were flexible in the sense that they allowed us to provide our own rhinestones and brooches to go on the cake. This helped control cost significantly. From calling to order the cake, lots of options, reasonable price, and when I picked up, it was ready on time and was absolutely beautiful and perfect! We chose the Hawaiian Delight filling and I was in love at first bite! When we attended a local restaurant, everyone in the kitchen asked me where I got the cake, including the guests that were dining!
