I've been going to Tasty China since I was 15 years old...I'm 32 now! It's always been my favorite Chinese spot in the city. Recently, the restaurant came under new management, and while the place looks nice, the food just isn't the same anymore. I ordered my usual meal last night, but the beef fried rice was unexpectedly sweet, and the wonton soup had a completely different flavor. For the first time in 15 years, I left feeling disappointed. I'm not sure where the old management went, but I truly hope they're doing well. The place only needed a facelift...sure! But not a new staff and menu change. I'm not one to write reviews, but this genuinely made me sad. It feels like the end of an era. read more

Went back to tell them I got the wrong order, was treated like I was an idiot and I was the one that ordered the wrong thing. No, their system didn't match the online ordering system (which is fine. But they acted like it was all my fault and I'm the idiot). Kept trying to show me the menu and how I was wrong, even though I'm showing my order that clearly shows what my order was. The food is good. Customer service however is horrible. The lady at front is always rude and has an attitude and even hangs up when asking questions. Also, food is never ready when they say it will be and realistically they aren't located in a good area to be waiting like that. Maggot fried Rice! I have eaten here a few times and have never had any complaints until now that is. I have always ordered lunch specials (fried rice and orange chicken or mongolian beef). Well this time was a very different my food had a very different kind of rice. The rice had maggots. The rice looked a little different in texture, size, and shape, so I looked a little closer and did some research and that is exactly what it was. The rice was mixed with maggots. This is by far the worse place I've been. After waiting 32 minutes for an order that I was told would be ready in 15 minutes. The lady behind the counter totally disnt even acknowledge me at the counter. She answered the phone four different time without even asking how can I help you. Once helped she completely ignored the fact that I wanted to know how much longer the order would take. Venue = clean. Staff = very friendly. Parking = ample lot. Fried Rice = comes complete with random chunks of hard, completely uncooked (raw) rice. "Chicken" = *extremely* low-grade - even by cheap Chinese take-out standards - and served rather soggy with an odd, unnatural spongy texture (eaten in-house, no traveling).The heavily embedded, pre-flash freeze artificial seasonings added to the "chicken" will easily over-power and clash with any sauce...objective = shield the quality of the meat. read more

It's utterly mediocre Chinese, pretty much the same as a million places all over the city, and I regret it every time I order something off the menu. I give this a Meh, not because the food is necessarily bad, but just because there is really nothing that makes it stand out to me. This place, along with Golden Chef across the street are virtually identical cookie-cutter Chinese fast food joints. From the menu and pricing all the way to the actual food itself. If you live in the hood this stuff is totally decent, just don't expect to get the equivalent of your favorite Chinese restaurant. TIP: While it may appear that Golden Chef and Tasty China are your only two Chinese options in Humboldt Park, you can actually order from Lee's Chop Suey which has REALLY solid fast food Chinese. Or if you're a real baller you could have some Papajin or Friendship delivered. read more

I am not a big fan of this place. There are only 2 Chinese places anywhere near by here and they other one is way better! When they opened I tried there food and I mean the food was more expensive and it tasted pretty bad ... So then I thought they would have improved since they have been in the same place for a long time so I gave them another chance and I mean I think I was more disappointed ... Wow. I can say I have had very 'eh' experiences with finding decent Chinese food in and near Logan Square. This place is really good. LOTS of food, reasonable prices, and hey - it actually tastes good. I could smell it in the other room before I tore myself away from the computer and I was very pleased. They did quote 30 minutes for delivery (I'm about 6 blocks away) and it was really more like 45, but I'm not complaining. It was just so, so good. I am usually not this lucky. Watch this stuff be like, horse meat or something...just my luck. EDIT 4/12/08: Not taking off any stars for this, but HOLY FREAKING HELL, PEOPLE: if I ask specifically for chopsticks, please do include them and not the pansy-ass plastic forks from Flimsytown! They have a really great lunch special. We have ordered it to-go many times. You get a lot for $6...main dish, huge portion of shrimp fried rice, a big chicken egg roll and a soda pop! We always have left overs for later or lunch tmrw. They are super friendly and they take phone orders for pick up or delivery. We often order ahead and are in and out. If you want some cheap Chinese food for a hang over or stretch your dolla $ this is your go to spot!! read more

First of all for all you haters sayin Tasty China isn't the best Chinese food in the world. Well, DUH. It's in a strip mall; however, Tasty China is the best thing going on North between Western and Kimball bar none!. First: I would eat General Tso's Tofu off their kitchen floor. I have never seen a cleaner kitchen in my whole life, and I've worked in plenty. Two: they have a "vegetables" section on the menu. This is my biggest test when approaching Chinese take-out. I'm vegan, and they're sportin a veggie section. 'Nuff said. C:Wanna talk fast and friendly service? The two ladies on the phone get right to the point without coming off as rude. I've never been so delighted to be asked, "What you want?" And the guys standing at the woks crank that food out in ten minutes. It doesn't matter what you order or how busy they are, your food will be done in under 15-amazing. I live really close to this place, and by the time I walk there, my food is ready. And finally, the food is consistent and delicious. General Tso's Tofu is BOMB. You get 2.5 meals out of it for like $8. How can you beat that? If you a veggie living near North and Kedzie and haven't become a slave to this food, it's not too late. Stick to the veggie options and you'll be good! They recently added tofu to their menu which is a huge plus.

Don't let the three stars fool you. Tasty China is great for what it is but I wouldn't go here unless it was a matter of convenience. The value is ridiculously good. I think I paid around $5 for the sesame chicken and it was probably enough to feed a family of five...that's $1 a person!!! Just tried this for the first time and was very surprised. I suppose my expectations were set low to begin with since I wanted Chinese delivery and of the two other options i had, one had given me food poisoning and the other one the staff were so rude i vowed to never return. Being that I am a man with a spirit of adventure I ordered from here. I got a truckload of food because - as i had never had it before - i assumed i wouldnt like at least some of what i ordered so wanted variety. The stars must have aligned that night because I like it all! Every dish I got was hot and good, and made great leftovers too. I would go so far as to say its some of the best "cheap" chinese food ive had in the city. Naturally its not going to beat china town or sun wah or friendship, but i never expected it to. For the price, its the best game in the Logan area. The only reason i didnt give 5 stars was because I would have to get it again to be sure it wasnt a fluke. Fingers crossed! read more

I have to say this isn't the best Chinese food you'll ever eat, but its by far not the worst! I will say though its location is pretty sketch! Ever since the Dunkin Donuts moved down the street the parking lot of this strip mall-esque location has become a little scary! My coworkers and I have become scarily addicted to this place. We are particularly addicted to their orange chicken lunch special (which comes with a can of soda for $6). I've tried chinese foods all over lakeview, uptown, and now Edison Park and Park Ridge, and I love how much this taste like the cheap chinese food I'm used to eating when I lived in the east coast. I called into Tasty China to place a order and explained to the lady that I was allergic to shrimp and to not cook my food in any type of peanut oil or shrimp and to make sure they sterilize the pans and utensils. I picked up my food ate maybe all of three bites and instantly broke out I couldn't breath and I had to rush to get Benadryl, I went back over to the restaurant to explain what happened and the lady told me that she receives so many calls in a day she forgets the order. I asked for a refund and the guy tells me they couldn't issue a full refund and gave me $5.00 back and tells me that's all he could do at the moment. If you eat here I would recommend going into the restaurant verses calling in. read more
